Scarflette Button Wrap

Abbreviations:

Ch: Chain
Hdc: Half Double Crochet
Blo: Back Loop Only

Materials:

1 skein category 4 worsted weight yarn/ 170 yards (156 m)
K hook
Button – approximately 1.25’’ in diameter
Large blunt eye needle

Finished Measurements: (approx)
32’’ long
5’’ wide

This pattern is forgiving and can be used with different yarn weights (category 4 or 5). It will differ in size just slights, so have fun experimenting with all types of weights!

Pattern:
Row 1: Ch 105, (115 for a larger version) hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each across. (103 hdc)
Rows 2-12: Ch 2, turn. Hdc through blo of first hdc and in each hdc across. (103 hdc)
Note: Ch 2 is turning chain and does not count as hdc.
Finish off, weave in ends.

Attaching Button:
(Make a closure with one button, or try two for an alternate look)
Cut a 24’’ piece of yarn and thread needle to sew button on to scarf.
Lay finished piece on flat surface and secure button. Measure approximately 12 inches from left side and secure button near the top. About 1.5 inches from top.

Sew through button holes and on to scarf a few times, leaving tails on bottom side of piece. Remove needle and knot tails of yarn to secure. Weave in ends.

Try the scarf on to ensure correct fit. No button hole is needed, just push button through stitches to fasten.

College/Pro Sports Team Baby Hat

Materials:
H Hook
Worsted Weight Yarn
Letter of favorite college or pro team.

Notes:
-Hdc in same spot as joining throughout pattern
-Sl st in top of st to join
-Increase or decrease base rows (1-6) for larger or smaller size.

Size:
3-6 Months

Pattern:

Row 1: 8 hdc in magic loop. Join with sl st in top of first hdc
Row 2: Ch1, 2 hdc in first hdc and in each hdc around (16 hdc)
Row 3: Ch1, 2 hdc in first hdc, *1 hdc in nxt hdc, 2 hdc in nxt hdc* repeat around (24 hdc)
Row 4: Ch1, 2 hdc in first hdc, *1 hdc in the nxt 2 hdc, 2 hdc in nxt hdc* repeat around (32 hdc)
Row 5: Ch1, 2 hdc in first hdc, *1 hdc in the nxt 3 hdc, 2 hdc in nxt hdc* repeat around (40 hdc)
Row 6: Ch1, 2 hdc in first hdc, *1 hdc in the nxt 4 hdc, 2 hdc in nxt hdc* repeat around (47 hdc)
Rows 7-16: Ch1, hdc in first hdc and in each around (47 hdc)

Optional
Row 11: Change to contrasting color and hdc in each st around. Change back to main color.

Finish off, weave in ends, and sew on letter to front of hat.

L Hook

Solid Section:
With A, Ch 14. Working in the tunisian crochet knit stitch (tks), insert hook in 2nd ch from hook, and complete the forward row. Complete a basic return row.
Continue in this pattern with A until section measures 6.5 inches long finishing with a forward row.

Color Changing Section:
Pick up B and complete return row.
Row 1 Forward: Pull up stitches to the left.
Row 1 Return: Yarn over to the right.
Row 2 Forward: Pull up stitches to the left.
Row 2 Return: Yarn over to the right.
Row 3 Forward: Pull up stitches to the left.
Row 3 Return: Drop B and pick up A

Repeat Color changing section with A and then again with B

Change to A and repeat solid section (measures 6.5 inches)

Repeat color changing section again.

Continue in this pattern until you have the desired scarf length of your choice!

I'm trying my hand at pacifier holders. I know there are a few tutorials out there, anyone have a good one? I couldn't get past the concept that I HAD to use a snap setter. A good old fashion hammer worked just fine for me. What do you recommend for the clothing clasp part?
If you're interested in a tutorial, let me know and I'll try to whip this one up.

Baby Cocoon Tutorial

Lately, I have been benefiting from many fabulous crafty tutorials. I figured I'd give back and share my crochet baby cocoon tutorial. These cocoons/pea pods, whatever you call it are very popular photography props for new born photographers, and a great shower gift for funky moms who want a unique photo of their newborn. My talented friend Kristen captured this photo of her baby Junah in one of my cocoons.

Materials:
K Hook
Homespun - Earth

The cocoon is worked in one long oval, starting with a chain. The rounds are worked continuously, without joining. You increase (3dc in one st) one at each end as you work around the piece. You increase in the middle increase dc stitch of the previous row. You can mark the middle stitch or just look for it when you get to that point. You can also just do the increase at any point on the end. Homespun is very forgiving :)

Ch 24 (Just over 10 inches)
Dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each chain to end.
Dc 3 additional dc in the last chain. (you may want to mark the middle stitch, this is where you will increase again)
Continue down the other side of the chain, and dc in the opposite side of the chain in each stitch.
When you reach the end, 3 dc in the space of the turning chain, (if you choose, mark this st) and continue down the opposite side again, dc in each dc.
When you reach the 3 dc increase, 3 dc increase in the middle stitch of previous row, a

nd continue to dc down the side.
Continue in this pattern until you have about three rows of increases, or until the piece measures almost 14 inches long. (without pulling) Now, continue to dc around, not increasing at the ends. Continue to dc around, for approximately 6 more rows or until piece measures 6.5 inches high.
With a little tighter tension, sc one row around the top. Sc decrease 2 together, two times in this row. Make the decreases one on each side equally spaced from the ends. Join with sl st in top of sc. Knot to fasten off and weave in ends.

Following this size, it fit an average size newborn. You want the baby to be kinda tucked up inside and it's cute when little toes or fingers poke through. I'd be happy to answer any questions :)

I dreamt this pattern up at work one day, and it has quickly become a regular bracelet in my jewelry rotation. I think next time I will use a smaller toggle, and I also have some gold wire I'm going to try out next.

Crochet enough chains to fit around your wrist, but leave enough space for the toggle clasp, or the clasp of your choice. I crocheted three strands of chains with enough space of wire to twist them together.

Hold the strands together and twist the three ends on one side together, then braid the chains together and twist the opposite end together. Use a tool to bend the twisted wire and make the hole for the toggle. Attach the toggle and wrap the wire around, cut and secure to hide.
You can add beads or dangles near the clasp, but I was looking for something simple.

Pretty Purple Pilates Mat Holder

This bag was made based off of a pattern from Shavasana Yoga Mat Bag. I liked her pattern, but wanted something more see through. I changed the body of the bag as follows:

--This now starts after you have finished the base (I did the base with hdc)--

Ch 3, *sk 1 hdc, dc ch 1 in the nxt.* repeat from * around, join in 2nd ch of ch 3.

::Depending on how many stitches are in your origional base circle you might have to fudge it a little bit here. For instance in mine, I had to skip more than one stitch to reach the 2nd ch.::

Ch 3, dc ch 1 in the very first possible chain space. Contine dc, ch 1 in all the chain spaces around. You will be working in the empty space, not actually in a stitch. When you get to the chain, don't [dc, ch1] into the last space, but skip it and sl st into the 2nd ch st of first ch 3.

:: This helped me from the bag increasing in size or shaping itself weirdly, but you can alter the joining as you see fit. ::

Continue in this way until the bag fits just short of your mat once it's rolled up. I kept my mat next to me and fitted the project over it every few rows. Actually pick up the mat once it's inside the project, that way you can see how much it stretches.

Earth Day Shower Scrubbie

Someone shared this fabulous idea and instructions with me at an Earth Day Fair. The woman was very nice and was passing out the instructions to anyone interested. I can't find any info on ravelry or anywhere else on the internet to link it to her, but I would like to give her credit.

This can be knit or crochet, just follow the instructions to create a string of “yarn” with the bag. Then use your desired hook or needles and create your scrubbie! Rounds, rectangles or squares all make great scrubbies. She also told me this was better than a washcloth because it doesn't hold in bacteria.
These are the instructions. I absolutely love her hand written ideas and drawings. If you click on it you can see a closer view that is easier to read. If you have trouble reading the instructions let me know and I'll write them out.
