 FEES® for Evaluating Oropharyngeal Dysphagia
Purpose
This program provides an opportunity to
develop an understanding of the FEES®
procedure and gain experience interpreting
FEES® for the evaluation and management
of oropharyngeal dysphagia. Will also
provide information on how the procedure
compares to the Modified Barium Swallow
Study, as well as discussing the manner in
which to start a FEES® program at your facility.

Speaker
The course is taught by Stuart Bradley, MS,
CCC-SLP and Selena Reece, MS, CCC-SLP.
Stuart and Selena have used FEES with all
types of adult patients, including hospital
inpatients and outpatients, ICU and skilled
nursing home residents and are experienced in
working with virtually all types of dysphagia.
Both SLP’s carry an active caseload and see
patients in a variety of settings. Stuart and
Selena have each completed thousands of
FEES during their many years of clinical
practice. Both have trained numerous clinicians
to successfully perform and interpret FEES. Mr.
Bradley is the owner of Carolina Speech
Pathology, a FEES Speech Pathology practice,
and is the developer of NDŌʜᴅ, High Definition
Endoscopic Imaging System.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1.Identify the anatomy that can be visualized
using FEES®.
2.Differentiate a normal from an abnormal
swallow using flexible endoscopy.
3.Establish & follow a protocol for administering a
FEES® exam.
4.Identify key anatomical structures. Identify &
interpret finding and apply appropriate
therapeutic intervention during the performance
of a FEES® exam.
5.Implement & adapt the FEES® protocol for
different patient populations and settings.
6.Differentiate the use of endoscopy vs. modified
barium swallow to manage patients with
dysphagia.
7. List the elements necessary implement FEES®
in their employment setting
8. Perform at an introductory level of skill in
passing the endoscope safely and demonstrate
how to properly position the scope to obtain ideal
view during the examination.
