The drilling machines are the tools for this purpose.

Then the next important categories of wood working tools are the chisels, scrappers and carving tools. They are required for a number of small activities involved in wood working.

The finishing of the wood work pieces also is an important part of wood working. There are some wood working tools used for finishing also. The wood planes are used for smoothening and regularizing the surface. There are different art forms that have gained popularity in the modern world. Some of these art forms are painting, sculpturing and photography. These art forms require dedication, determination and concentration. Another type of art form that requires these traits is stenciling.

Stenciling is an art form that is dated back to the early years. Proofs of stencil patterns are found in caves, leaves, and wood blocks. The Japanese and Chinese helped in the promotion of this art. It was the Chinese people who invented the paper and the Japanese initiated the silk screen industry. Europeans and Romans also used stenciling in making different designs. Stenciling takes many forms as graffiti, wall stencils and letter stencils. These kinds have their own characteristic that is very different from the other.

Wall stenciling is mainly used in decorating houses, rooms, buildings and other architectures. Wall stencil patterns are mainly composed of many designs that cater to the different taste of every individual. Wall stencils are generally personalized in nature as the home owners or wall owners have the right to choose the design and color that they want to apply to a certain wall.

Wall stenciling is basically considered as an interior design. Interior design is traced back to Western Europe. William Kent is usually referred to as the first person who has completed a complete interior. Since then, European countries and neighboring countries practiced interior designing. Interior designing have become more challenging and powerful with the advent of stencils. While paintings and sculptures are mainly used in interior designing, stencils have created a variety in these usual materials used.

Wall stenciling is a very good bonding hobby for a family. Share some ideas about the designs that you want in your sala and kitchen. For the parents, let the kids decide ion the design on their wall. Let them choose what them want and let them stencil for themselves. In this sense, you do not only create harmony but creates a little bit of independence. This is important so that children will be more responsible and will exercise their freedom of choice.

Wall stenciling is a very tedious process wherein one needs accuracy, precision and concentration. Here are some steps to follow when doing wall stenciling.

1.) Make sure that the wall is clean and is free from any dust or dirt.

2.) Clean the wall with water and let it dry.

3.) Place the stencil on the wall and be sure to hold it in place.

4.) Put paint in your paintbrush by dipping it to the paint.

5.) Do not apply too much paintbrush because this might damage your work.

6.) Apply a top coat of varnish or polyurethane.

7.) Let the stencil dry.

8.) Clean your stencils with soap and water.

In all types of stenciling, cleaning the surface and making sure that you clean your stencil afterwards is like second nature. Cleanliness is very important in stenciling that stencil artists are often very clean personalities themselves.

Stenciling in general has a very wonderful past. Many artists have looked down on stencil artist and have criticized them for the art that they choose. Nonetheless, stencil artists and stencil lovers fought for stenciling and soon stenciling was considered as an art form. It is not merely an art form but rather an expression.
Carpentry

The Role Of Japan And China In Stenciling

Art can be seen in many forms. The different forms of art are painting, songs, playing the instruments and photographs. These art forms convey the messages of the artists that painted them, composed them or shoot them. Art forms are powerful tools to deliver messages to the people. One kind of art form that has its own messages is stenciling.

Stenciling can be dated back to Prehistoric Era. Stencil patterns were seen in caves and leaves at that time. Greeks and Romans used stenciling in their paintings, signboards and in other uses. The Chinese and Japanese also used stenciling

Japanese used Katagami stencils to prototype textiles using a method called Katazome. Katazome is a reverse dye stenciling that includes the use of rice paste, and silk. Katazome is done by applying rice fix through a pattern onto the silk. Rice paste is applied on the stencil until it is copied on the clothing. After the pattern has been copied, the clothing is dyed with a coloring of indigo. The paste is then removed to expose the pattern.

Japanese used slim sheets of mulberry bark that were treated in persimmon juice. These sheets are then piled together and are cut by a blade. This method enables the artist to cut several stencils at a time and be assured that the same pattern is on all the stencils.

The invention of the paper paved way for Chinese to divulge themselves in stenciling. Chinese began cutting paper for stencil designs. These stencil designs were used in designing plates and textiles.

Although the Japanese and Chinese succeeded with their stenciling, there were difficulties that they encountered. One of these difficulties is there were some isolated parts of the design. An example of this difficulty is the falling out of the outer part of the letter O. The Japanese solved this problem by pasting or gluing loose pieces on the stencil. Later, the Japanese used silk strand as a bridge.

This bridge possessed the quality of strength and invisibility that enables the artist to pattern the designs onto clothing without any trace of the bridge. The usage of such bridge became the start of silk screening. Today, silk screening is frequently used in imprinting designs onto shirts and other types of clothing.

The Japanese and the Chinese have contributed a lot in the development of stenciling. A Chinese invented the paper and it was through this invention that stenciling achieved greater heights. The Japanese solved the problem of too loose papers and fueled the start of silk screening.

The paper and silk screening were a great help in the development of stenciling. It was through these medium that stenciling achieved greater heights and catered to more audiences. Up to this day, papers are still sometimes used fro stenciling especially when it comes to children's art assignments and activities. On the other hand, silk screen has boomed to be an entirely different industry. Many people have grown rich because of this industry.

Many factors have contributed to the development of stenciling today. The inventions of Chinese and Japanese people are just two of the people who have helped push for the advancement of stenciling. Their contributions are still very alive today and are widely used by the world. Stenciling is truly an art that is rooted in history and was nurtured by many cultures.
Carpentry

The Rise And Fall Of Stenciling

Stenciling is an art that have travelled throughout the world and have influenced many people. It is a household art where people can do their own art in their homes. They can trace patterns in their free time. They can design their houses by choosing the right pattern and right color. Truly, stenciling is an art that doesn't discriminate. It helps people in developing and discovering their abilities.

Like most other art forms, stenciling has gone through difficult times when it was considered as a lowly art. Stenciling has also gone a brief death when no stencil artists promoted for the further development of stenciling. Stenciling was promoted in the early ages by Japanese and Chinese. These people were the ones who pushed for the use of paper and silk screen in holding the patterns in places.

On the other hand, the printing press paved way to the production of books with stencil patterns. Domino wallpapers also proliferated and replaced the expensive cloth wallpaper. It was all glory for stenciling at the time. North America early settlers used direct stenciling because they couldn't import wallpapers and stenciled furniture. These settlers provided their own materials and designed their own furniture through stenciling. Travelling artisans promoted stenciling while they travelled in New England. Stencil designs from this era were identified to 15 artists.

Stenciling was used for designing walls, furniture and shirts throughout the 18th and 19th century. However, stenciling fell when wallpaper became affordable by the end of the 19th century.

The 20th century saw the momentarily death of stenciling. It was merely regarded as a decorating tool. Only a couple of organizations maintained stenciling as an art. The film industry in the United States of America paved way to the resurrection of stenciling. Film frames were stenciled through the beginning of a mechanized process by Pathe'. Stenciling also became alive between the 1920's and 1930's. During this time, it was considered fashionable to have stencils in homes.

It was also during this time that stenciling was utilized to produce color separations for book illustrations. French publishers who were influenced by the printed textiles of Japan used the same technique as the hand coloring in England in producing color separations. The usage of stenciling in book designs diminished as the printing revolution came to form.

The 1970's also witnessed the resurrection of stenciling. People were asking for something else than wallpaper. They wanted to become personal and wanted something to do. This is where stenciling came in. Famous stencil artists like Adele Bishop influenced many people to trek the same journey that they have trekked and this inspiration gave rise to many great artists.

Up to this day, stenciling has become a part of daily activities. From its humble beginnings, stenciling has taken many forms. From the early materials like leaves, tree bark, wood blocks, stencil card and polyester film, stencils today are very different from the stencils in the early times. Today's stencils come in varied designs, patterns and layers.

Truly, stenciling ahs travelled a long hard way before it was established as an art and not a mere designing tool. Many people are now inclined to stenciling to design their housed, books and their shirts. Stenciling has provided people with the ability to personalize their things. It had provided people the power to choose the design that they want. Moreover, stenciling has given every individual to be an artist in their own right.
Carpentry

Stenciling Materials And Equipment

Many people regard art as an expression of the soul. Art is referred to as a medium, a way to express feelings without an action. A painting can tell you a million stories, a song can share a million emotions and photographs can give you many faces. Stenciling as an art can give you a bird's eye view of the personality of the artist who did the stencil.

Stenciling is an expression of design and of characteristic. The texture of the stenciled patterns and the stroke of the artists' brushes or pen allows the audience to have an idea of the emotions that the artists' experience during construction of such stencil. The choice of stencil designs also shows the character of the artist and the client. Wall stencils tell a visitor on the personality of the owner of the house.

A good stencil pattern requires outmost preparation, accuracy and determination. A good artist doesn't leave his or her work undone. When a person sits down to make a stencil pattern or carve it, he must be focused on his work. While stenciling is an art that doesn't demand too much from an individual, that individual must be willing to give so much for the quality of the pattern.

In line with stenciling, there are different equipments and materials that are needed before doing a pattern. The early earth dwellers made used of nature as their material to make their patterns. They used woods, leaves, and tree barks. Different materials can be used in doing stencils. The equipment used in stenciling are very common that you can purchase it at any store. In order to guide you with stenciling materials, here's a list that may be helpful;

1.) Brushes- this is very fundamental equipment in stenciling. If you plan to stencil for good, a set of very good brushes is a must. Bristles of the brush should be firm and the end should be flat.

2.) Pencils – use quality pencils so that it will not smudge or be erased

3.) Cutting mat – this gives you a surface that is firm where you can cut your materials. It also helps in safeguarding the craft knife.

4.) Paint-mixing container- this is used for mixing paints and washes

5.) Stencil card – this can be substituted by any material. This is where an artist does his stencil.

6.) Rulers and tape measure- these equipments are necessary to ensure accuracy

7.) Tracing Paper- this is important in transferring the stencil pattern to the stencil card.

The above mentioned equipment are the things that an artist need in doing his stencil design. The succeeding portion will tackle the materials that are needed in stenciling.

1.) Acrylic stencil paint- this ensures quick drying and it diminishes the likelihood of running and seeping of paint.

2.) Acrylic varnish- used for sealing finished projects and designs

3.) Emulsion (latex paint)- use a high quality paint to avoid damages to the design

4.) Fabric paint- it is utilized as the acrylic stencil paint. It is available in different colors. Fabric paint when applied must be ironed to avoid wash out.

5.) Metallic cream- this is used as highlight to bases and can be used for the entire pattern.

6.) Oil-based stencil sticks and creams- these are applied to the design and don't present the danger of overloading. However, these materials require a long drying time.

These are some of the materials used for stenciling. Do not limit yourself to these materials. Explore other materials.
Carpentry

Stenciling In Different Forms

Art is used to express ideas, ideologies, messages and emotions. Different art forms send messages to the audience they cater. Paintings and photographs dazzle their audience by the colors that they have. Songs and dances amuse the audience by the moves and voices of dancers and singers. More than dazzling and amusing audiences, these art forms are the messages of their creators to them. Another art form, stenciling, also sends messages to their audience according to their category.

Stenciling is an art that caters to all audiences. It is an art that provides people with the power of choice. Stenciling takes form in different kinds. Wall stencils, stencil graffiti, street stencils, aerosol stencils and nano stencils. These kinds all have their principles and their uses.

Aerosol stencils are applied in industrial, commercial and artistic sectors. It is also used in residential and recreational places, military government and infrastructure management. Aerosol stencil templates can be produced from any material that has form. These materials include plain paper, cardboard, plastic sheets metal and wood.

Stencils are also used in official organizations and government use. These organizations and offices use stencils for easier recognition. Stencils for these purposes are personalized for every organization.

Stencil graffiti has risen from the fact that stencil art uses spray paint. Spray paints are materials that are readily available and are used for vandalism. Stencil graffiti is used by certain politicians and activists to express their ideas. Politicians use graffiti to promote their ideologies and to promote their political ambitions. Activists use graffiti to oppose the government or other entities. Stencil graffiti is the most aggressive type of stenciling.

In contrast with stencil graffiti is home stenciling. Home stenciling is mainly for decoration purposes and to provide aesthetics to houses. These stencils are important in the Do-It-Yourself industry. These stencils are applied by using paint or roller brush. Home stenciling provides homeowners with their choice of the design and color. They also have the power to create their own stencil. To avoid too much spending, a family can create their own stencil design and apply this design to their house. Doing stencils is also a good bonding activity.

Stencils also take the form of miniature shadow masks where materials can be deposited. Stencils are also used in screen-printing. Screen printing utilizes a mesh screen that is tightly woven. The screen is coated in slim layers of mixture to copy the original image.

Stencils are also used in airbrushing. The stencil used for stencil is called a frisket. The frisket is pushed directly on the artwork. This can be utilized to contain and control overspray. It is also used to create complex and sharp objects. However, this should be used only once.

Stenciling is a very ancient art of outlining patterns. The earliest forms of stencil can be seen in caves and hand imprints. It is used everyday when people go shopping for their children. Leaves, woods and tree barks were the first materials that were used in stenciling. Japan and China helped in promoting stenciling and in inventing equipment and methods to further advance the art. European countries also helped in promoting stenciling.

The above mentioned kinds of stenciling were result of the inventions by the early people. Stencil artists are forever in debt to these early stencil artists.
Carpentry

Stenciling And The Invention Of Paper

Stenciling is an art that was developed by many cultures. It is an art that early men have abused because of the absence of technological advances like paper, computers and other things that help in the proliferation of art today. It is an art that doesn't require too much of time and artistic ability. Stenciling only requires that you trace a pattern and you can create your own artwork. Stenciling gives an individual the choice to choose the color that she wants to us for her artwork.

Researchers say the early evidences of stenciling can be found in caves and leaves. Hand imprints were evidences of stenciling in caves. Rumors also say that Eskimos used perishable items in stenciling. These rumors, however, were not fully explored and up to now, there are no evidences that would turn these rumors into facts.

The Japanese and Chinese helped in the development of stenciling through their inventions and initiatives. A Chinese invented the paper and Japanese introduced the use of silk screen to hold patterns. These inventions contributed a lot to the stenciling industry.

The news of the invention of paper and stenciling spread through Asia, Middle East and Europe. The art of stenciling and paper cutting was promoted by changes in leadership and campaigns. In the 16th century, stenciling was utilized together with wood blocks and brush to capture the image of religious persons and make illuminated manuscripts.

In Europe, books with stencil designs were mass produced with the advent of the printing press. Wood craftsmen also used stencil patterns in designing their products. The stencil patterns were used for furniture, embroidery and clothing. Stencils were also utilized to make playing cards. Advancement in the use of stencil patterns was when a French craftsman created wallpaper using stenciled segments. These stenciled segments were later on called dominoes. These dominoes were sold in cheaper prices that the cloth that was originally used as wallpaper.

Nonetheless, a downfall in this era of stenciling is the paper. The paper was not originally produced as it is today. Instead of the usual size of 10m, the paper then was produced in 1-1.25 long by 46cm. The outlining or stenciling was done before the paper was dried. This method produced a messy effect on the design. There were no records as to how the Japanese silkscreen was used by other countries in this time. Maybe, they didn't knew about it or it was simple not available.

Some difficulties in the stenciling industry also included the lack of resources to buy materials abroad, lack of transportation and the lack of support from the government. Although stenciling was growing and prospering to be an art and a big help to many people, it still couldn't match the popularity and elegance of painting and music. Stenciling was used by craftsmen and by people who painted religious buildings but this wasn't enough to achieve the status of painting. It was also used by many household designers but all of these proved futile in the purpose of uplifting the status of stenciling.

Stenciling has gone through an arduous travel before it was established as an art form. It had gone through a momentarily death when no one promoted and pushed for the stenciling art. Despite of these difficulties, stenciling art and artists have proven themselves and are very much highly regarded today.
Carpentry

Letter Stenciling: Children's Tool In Learning

Art is a way to express someone's feelings. It is a way to send messages to the world. It is a way to conceal the artists' emotions into paintings, photographs and sculptures. Many people have turned to art to disclose their emotions and their messages. Truly, art has been so many things to people. It has been a very good communicator. An art form that is highly regarded for its effect on the political battle and in the interior decoration is stenciling.

Stenciling is the act of making or drawing something by using outlines. Stencil patterns are available for people who want to choose the color that they want to use. It is an art that was nurtured by many cultures. Some of these cultures are Japanese, Chinese and Europeans. With the advancement of technology came the advancement in materials which prompted stenciling to turn to other materials too. People don't even know that stencils originate from caves and leaves.

There are many kinds of stenciling. One type of these stencils used in stenciling is letter stencils. Letter stencils are used in official businesses like military operations and organizations. Letter stencils are usually personalized to every person and to an organization.

Letter stencils are also used by children when they want to learn their alphabets. Moreover, children also use stenciled numbers to learn their numbers. Letter stencils have a very colorful industry in the modern world.

At the end of the 1930's a schoolteacher observed the brass stencils that her students have presented problems. After too much thinking, Ruth Hormats made two prototypes of stencils.

Hormats took her invention to many big companies and many companies brought her down. Nonetheless, her product was recognized and was launched at Macy's. As the product became popular, many people purchased the product and the product was adjusted for different age groups.

A unique stencil design was produced at the end of the 1940's. This style allowed users to make letters in three different styles. It is called the 2 inch Solid Gothic. The 2 inch gothic contained complete letters and they were the same as most stenciled letters.

Because of Hormat's invention, many people thought that there was money in doing stencils and came up with their version of stenciled of circus animals and other stencils that concerned education. Meanwhile, Ruth started her own company and succeeded in her idea of stenciling.

Ruth's company became a huge success and parents and children patronized her products. In the following years to come, Ruth's invention continued to be a bestseller and people couldn't get enough of it.

Many companies have produced letter stencils that are targeted to children. These companies have added variations to their products. Despite the advancement of technology, other people still prefer the old-fashioned way stenciled way to learn their ABC's.

Truly, stenciling has come a long way from its early beginnings. It has taken many forms that are very beneficial to humans. Stenciling types cater to different needs and wants by people. Stenciling has helped a lot of people in terms of aesthetic purposes. Furthermore, stenciling has helped in educating the children. These letter stencils are objects that any kid must possess.

Instead of children going out to play, they have opted to stay in their house to practice their alphabet using stenciling.
Carpentry

Is Stenciling Still In?

Stenciling is an art that requires passion, concentration and determination to any individual. Like many art forms, stenciling is a very delicate art that needs extra attention and accuracy. Stencil artists are artists who have a great sense of responsibility. Stenciling is the same as paintings and photographs in the sense that they all express the artists' emotions and feelings. Nonetheless, stenciling is very different in the sense that stenciling is very much personal. Stenciling is also different in the sense that it allows any material that will be used.

Stenciling is so much different form its brothers and sisters in the world of art. Stenciling involves outlining a pattern. Painters market their product and boast that they have done that particular painting. In contrast, stencil artists share their designs with other people when they market their designs. Stenciling is all about sharing what you've got and giving it your best try.

The Prehistoric era witnessed the birth of stenciling. Human ancestors are the very first stencil artists. They used the cave, leaves and tree barks as their surfaces. These humans are far more resourceful than what we have today. While it is true that there are many technological advancements that contributed in the development of stenciling, these developments were not fully utilized by the people.

The Japanese initiated the use of silk screen production with regards to stenciling. This practice and industry is slowly disappearing today because of modern technology. People used to design their own shirts, pants and other clothing. With the advent of the modern years, the youth have lost their precious time to shopping and other leisure activities. There is no time dedicated to designing their own shirts.

Family bonding activities like wall stenciling and furniture stenciling are now very rare. The electronic and information superhighway revolutions have created a global village where in people communicate to each other through the web. Many people avail of chat services and channels to seek for friends.

Children using stenciled letters to learn their alphabet are very rare occurrences in the education sector. Oftentimes, children learn their alphabet through the internet and the computer. These children are deprived of the fun of outlining to achieve the letters that he or she wants.

Wall stenciling is also very uncommon nowadays. People don't use stenciled wallpapers today. Posters replaced these magnificent wall stencils. The church and other institutions have also changed in their preference of art. Frequently, church members choose painters and sculptor to do their decoration and others.

It has been said through and through that stenciling has gone through many things and hardships before it was established as an art and not merely a decoration. These hardships should have made stenciling resilient from any attack or degradation that it might experience from other art forms. Nonetheless, these experiences of stenciling and stencil artists are bound to happen again.

With the advent of numerous technologies, stenciling is again faced with the problem of being neglected again. The problem with people is that they tend to take stenciling for granted and exchange it for what technology offers. However, the important fact is that when people gets tired of using their gadgets and other things, they always search for an activity wherein they can express themselves.

This is where art comes in. When there is art, there is stenciling art.
Carpentry

Graffiti Stenciling And Great Artists

Art is one way of expressing one's selves. There are different art forms that provide people with the avenue to express themselves. Paintings, photographs and sculptures are the product of many artists that want to express themselves. The strokes, colors and images shown in these artworks are manifestations of the artists' characters. Another art form that provides people with a venue for expression is stenciling.

Stenciling is a form of art that has originated from the Prehistoric Era. There are evidences of stencil patterns in caves and leaves. There were also rumors that Eskimos used perishable materials in stenciling. Stenciling art was uplifted by many cultures and many technological advances.

Stenciling has different forms. The forms and kind of stenciling include wall stenciling, furniture stenciling, aerosol stencils, nanostencils and graffiti stencils. Many artists have succeeded in expressing their ideas through graffiti.

Graffiti stenciling uses stencil patterns in designing walls, streets and surfaces. These stencil designs are normally seen in areas where people pass by and can internalize the messages in the graffiti. These art works often comes with slogans. These art works tackle issues in politics, culture and ethics.

One of the pioneers of using stencils in graffiti is Blek le Rat. He was born in 1952 on Boulogne- Billancout in Paris. He devoted his time in studying painting and architecture. Blek began painting in 1981. He has continued painting since then and had influenced many artists that have followed his tracks.

Blek particularly influenced graffiti and guerilla art movements. He has also influenced Bansky. Bansky was quoted as saying,

"Every time I think I've painted something slightly original, I find out that Blek Le Rat has done it as well, only twenty years earlier".

Bansky is also a big name in graffiti stenciling. Although his identity is not totally disclosed, he was able to establish his name through his pseudo name. He has painted many stencil patterns on walls and streets. He doesn't sell his artworks and also doesn't hold exhibits like other artists. Bansky's artworks are said to talk about political ideologies.

Blek and Bansky are two of the greatest graffiti artists who have used stenciling. They have utilized stencils as ways of expressing their political ideologies and messages. There are still many artists who have excelled in the field of stenciling yet their achievements have not been highlighted.

There are no known awards giving bodies that give awards to stenciling artists. These artists remain anonymous. Graffiti stenciling artists tend to conceal their identity because of the slogans that their art works contain. These artists continue to hide their identities because their lives could be put in danger.

Stenciling is an art that has provided many advantages to the human race. It has provided the families with bonding activities. It has given individuals the power to create their own stencil designs and use these designs in different ways. Moreover, stenciling has given individuals the power to talk through their art works.
Carpentry

Graffiti Stenciling: An Art Of Ideas

People have different ways of expressing themselves. Some people sit at a corner and cry their heart out if they are depressed. Other people become silent when they are in a depressed state. When people are happy, they tend to be overjoyed and tell the world of their happiness. People have different personalities that they have their own way of expressing themselves. Doing an art work is one way of expressing feelings like depression and happiness. Stenciling is a form of art where people can express themselves by doing their own designs.

Stenciling traces backs it' roots to the era of the caveman where no technology was present. The cavemen must have used the natural resources afforded to him by mother earth. Hand stencils and evidences of leaves stencils were discovered in certain areas and dated back to this period. More than just doodling on the caves and leaves, the early stencil patterns are patterns that helped archaeologists and historians in determining important facts about the life in the Prehistoric Era.

Stenciling has proliferated in many different countries and has taken different forms. One form of stenciling is stenciling graffiti. When people hear the word graffiti, their common notion is that it is vandalism and it is against the law. Nonetheless, stencil graffiti has established its name as an art and has a big following.

This kind of stenciling utilizes paper, cardboard and other things to produce a picture or words that are reproduced easily. After drawing a design in the medium, the design is cut out and moved to a facade by using spray paint or roll on paint. Here are few things to consider when you are thinking of doing a graffiti stencil.

1.) Think of your purpose and motivation in doing the stencil graffiti. On the other hand, stenciling is often considered illegal when it is used in doing graffiti on the walls. Stencil graffiti is a popular way of expressing disgust in the government and promoting different organizations. Frequently, stencil graffiti is used by rebels and militants to express what they want to say.

Stenciling is considered as an easy way to create an artwork. Nobody talks about his identity and if somebody knew about his identity, they don't talk about it.

Bansky is just one of the artists who have excelled in stenciling art. It is very cost friendly. It is an art that caters to almost all ages. Children, teens and adults can design their own stencils. Moreover, children can create their stencils using the patterns of older people. Stencil designs tell the character of a person. Stencil artists choose their materials and equipment according to the project that they are working on.

Stencil materials and equipment are readily available in stores. Choosing the right material and equipment is very important to ensure a quality project. Nonetheless, it is important that an individual knows what to do before dwelling in stenciling. Stenciling steps are very easy. Here are some steps to follow when you decide to do a stencil project.

1.) Clean the façade that will be stenciled. Be sure that is properly prepared and has no shedding paint. Use a chalk when marking a line. Pencils are hard to erase and may smudge on the surface. Use a masking tape when attaching a stencil.

2.) When constructing a border stencil on a room wall, start opposite corner facing the door.

3.) Acrylic paint- wet the brush into the paint and wipe off most of the paint in a paper. Too much paint will give the pattern shabby edges.

4.) When attaching the stencil to any surface, make sure that you leave no space where paint can seep in. When using masking tape or scotch tape, push the stencil tightly and make sure that it doesn't come off.

5.) Different colors come in different time. The color with the lightest shade should be applied first. Dry the first color first before applying another color.

6.) Use an up and down stippling motion when applying the paint.

7.) Begin applying paint on the outside of the stencils.

8.) Use very clean brush and stencils to avoid problems.

9.) Too much paint will damage the stencil pattern.

10.) Clean the stencil frequently in hot water with soap.
11.) Check the back of the stencil for any paint marks.
12.) Shed off the paint from the brush.
13.) Soak stencils and brushes in turpentine.

When using fabric, wash the fabric first to remove softener and size. Softener and size makes the paint sticks to the coating. Put the stencil normally. Put some extra masking tape on the sides of the stencil.

Wear a mask to avoid exhaling too much of the aroma of the paint that will use. Too much paint may affect your health. Never ever leave materials that are soaked in turpentine in the open. These materials can catch fire if they are left unattended.

There are different kinds of stenciling but almost all of these kinds follow the instructions and tips that were mentioned above. Observing cleanliness and accuracy are traits that an individual need to succeed in stenciling. Being prepared with the materials and equipment are also necessary. An individual must not venture into stenciling when she doesn't have the complete requirements.

Stenciling is a very delicate art. It requires outmost concentration and dedication. It is an art that talks about intricate details and accuracy. Many people have succeeded in capturing and mastering the art of stenciling. These art works are two of the most famous and most talked about product of the art world. Painting and photo exhibits generate a large audience from different art societies and the common people. These two art forms are too popular that other art forms are not given much attention. One of these art forms that are often disregarded is the art of stenciling.

Stenciling is the art of producing an image from a stencil pattern. The stencil pattern can be a cut-out pattern or outlining the image that is present in a paper or acetate. There are many types of stenciling like wall stenciling, stencil graffiti and aerosol stencils. Stencils are used in everyday use like when children draw and design their art assignments. Children often use patterns so that they can produce a beautiful and quality work.

The history of stenciling and stencils can be traced back to the Paleolithic era in the 30,000 B.C to 9,000 B.C. The first recorded stencils are said to originate in the Paleolithic cave. Other records show that leaves were used for the first stencils. Natives from Fiji Islands normally use bamboo and banana leaves in doing their stencils. Rumors say that Eskimo natives from Baffin Island use dried sealskin for their stencil art. However, this rumor still remains a rumor up to this day because of insufficient evidence and the absence of fossils of the stencil art of these Eskimos.

Records show early stencils were commonly composed of paper heavily oiled and leather. Later, tin and linen were used to make stencils. These materials are still used up to this day but are rarely utilized because of the presence of plastic.

During the early years, stencils were used as beautification for tombs of Egyptian. The stenciling process would start with the artist outlining a figure or symbol on the tomb's wall. After the outlining, a sculptor would carve the sketch in low relief. After the carving, a slim coating of stucco is added to collect the paint. Egyptian stencils and other Egyptian art works tend to use intense primary colors.

On the other hand, Greek stencil artists use the art of stenciling in outlining mosaic designs. Greeks also used stencils in making the letters painted on signboards. These signboards are referred to for directions. The Greeks and the Romans also used stencils in painting. The Murals is a product of stenciling.

Stenciling was also utilized for producing and designing clothes. Many cultures used stencil to produce a more personal and creative design for their shirts, jeans and sweaters. Stencils were also used for coloring old master prints. It was also used for publications that were mass produced. Stencils were also used for designing playing cards.

The above mentioned uses of stencils and stenciling are only few of the art's early uses. Other uses have materialized throughout the course of history that has helped stenciling art to be popular.

Stenciling has a very colorful history. Its history proves that stenciling is not merely tracing the patterns but more of expressing ourselves and honoring others. Many things and technological advances have helped in the advancement of this art. The Japanese and Chinese have contributed a big part in the promotion of this art.
Carpentry

Tips On Stenciling

Stenciling is a very arduous task. These characteristics of the brushes will prevent paint from seeping into the edges of the stencil. Other equipment recommended are sponge and small roller.

2.) Start working from the outside towards the middle. This method will stop
the paint from seeping under the edges.

3.) Don't put too much paint in the brush. This will create a messy output. Dip the brush into the paint lightly. Dab the brush with a piece of paper or cloth if there is an excess of paint.

4.) Apply coats individually. Dry the first coating first before applying the second one. Apply paints thinly. It is better to have a first and second coating than a thick one.

5.) Tape the stencil to avoid it from slipping down or to avoid spaces between the stencil and the surface. Tapes with low tacks are the best materials to use for this procedure.

6.) Use colors to make your stencil design beautiful. Cover the areas with tape when you don't want them to be included in a particular color that you are applying.

7.) Practice everyday. Practice applying the paint and using your brush. Study your design carefully and practice it in other surfaces.

8.) X-rated stencils. These x-rays are the best for stencil cutting. Treasure them.

9.) Clean regularly. Clean the surfaces where you will work. Clean the brushes that you will use.
