Not since I created the gradient templates have I mentioned anything. To rectify that we’ll start today with my newest, latest & greatest template:

Chin Up Buttercup

It features a soft gray background that’s easy on the peepers, the only all-white part is the posts. Some key features:

  • Pink, white and gray color palette.
  • Posts are 640px, perfect for large post photos.
  • Welcome image + text.
  • Black social media icons. You belong to it? I’ve got an icon for it!
  • The dates “sit on top of” and overlap the white post section.
  • The post titles and navigation bar are centered. They are also in Google font Carrois Gothic SC.
  • Header tagline, post dates & sidebar titles are in Google font Zeyada. Oh, and the pager links (Newer, Older, Home) are Zeyada, too.
  • And the best part… a Pinterest pin it button for post images is already included!

The font I used for the header title is Trend which I got a couple of weeks ago - the ENTIRE font set – for $19! It’s regularly $159 and I couldn’t pass up that steal… and isn’t it lovely?!

Recently Google+ had an update or fancification if you will and while Google+ is much more reader friendly these days the updates threw a proverbial wrench into Blogspot’s Blogger image upload feature (this is for the Layout Gadget section of your blog, where you would upload your Header and sidebar Image Gadgets)… your transparent images, .PNG files are now not so transparent. They have a black and/or gray background and that’s just not acceptable!

Google+ calls this auto-enhancing and while that may be great and all on Google+ it doesn’t work for Blogger.

Luckily there’s the fix for this problem.

If you have a Google+ account:

You can disable the “auto-enhance” that is done by default on all your uploaded pictures by

  • Going to the google+ settings (https://www.google.com/settings/plus)
  • In the “Photos” section you can uncheck “Automatically enhance new photos”

If you don’t have a Google+ account:

  • Use a free image hosting site like Flickr or Photobucket to upload and grab the image urls from.

Hopefully, Google+ and Blogspot will fix this issue “behind the scenes” so we don’t have to apply these hacks, but until then this will do the trick.

I was cleaning up my desktop this week and came across my very first blog header, from July 16th, 2007! Back then I was blogging on Blogger (which I still very much love) and was Carrie & the Koehmstedts. That’s my daughter Erin, in the beautiful Pacific Ocean at Newport Beach, back when we were still Californians. I guess we still are at heart.

But “the south” has definitely crept in to us. We yes ma’am and yes sir people now, and I frequently use ‘bless her/his heart’ instead of that *&@#!! idiot. Oh, and where we live I can drive 6 miles to McDonalds and NEVER encounter a traffic light… just 3 stop signs! And, yes, that’s the closest fast food restaurant.

Once he got over me being out there with him it only took a couple more minutes for him to resume his bubble-thing.

Apparently, both males and females have a pink throat fan (a.k.a. dewlap), which is used as a means for inter- and intraspecific communication. Lizard was trying to talk to me! I wonder what he was saying? Probably “stop looking at me & get back to work!”

I got these shots yesterday. Simon & Darla are MIA because they are camera shy. Well, maybe that’s not it, it’s more like they are on my ankles the entire time so it’s hard to get a shot of them… the are very co-dependent.

I love this time of year when the grass is still green and hasn’t been burned up by the summer heat.

Marguerite is a newer font over on dafont.com, it debuted Cinco de Mayo, 2013 – Olé!

There a few things that really stand out for me with Marguerite font. First, quite a few of the capital letters overlap other letters, like the F, I, K and L to name a few.

Also, it has a couple of floral dingbats that are really cute and a complete bonus to the set, I used them in the image above.

And, it’s a really pretty handwritten font. And, I love the retro vibe it has.

Another great font for blog headers and post signatures!
