This time of year always proves challenging for me...

...as the sun goes down, my anxiousness increases...

...these winter short, sunlit days feel like eternal night to me...

...and I know there are many that struggle with this condition of Seasonal Affect Disorder...

...so I become the biggest cheerleader of Spring as I peruse my calendar and try to jam pack my schedule with goal lists and tasks to keep me focused and busy on being better, wiser, more creative and connected...and I am a busy girl...

...and I want to start cheering on Spring and Summer now...so I thought I'd start with a pretty little post of a couple pictures I shot of Rachel this past Summer...my friend is now pregnant and I can't wait to get her in front of my camera again...

...these images were shot on film on a Canonet rangefinder that I used for the first time...and they are just carefree, happy, 70's nature child captured...I love them :)

Halloween at the Vineyard with Chamard & Tova' Vintage!!!

This year brought another amazing Halloween Party put on by Chamard Vineyard and Tova's Vintage Shop. There was a great turnout despite the crazy, random blizzard that happened that night, and the party-goers showed up in the fiercest costumes yet. Showstopper Entertainment provided the great grooves for our dancing feet as well as a fun photobooth while La Cuisine rocked out the food.

And, at the beginning of it, a scavenger hunt for one couple ended in a marriage proposal!!! Tova's brother had the whole thing planned, and it was really sweet! I am so glad that I got to capture that moment! Check it out in the post....

Nancy & Matt: I Do at the Bee & Thistle Inn

Yesterday, I shot my last wedding of the year. And I could not have asked for a greater way to end my 2011 season. Nancy and Matt were fun and easy-going and soooooooo in love. The way they looked at each other seriously melted my heart a little with each little glance and each lingering stare. They were like giddy little kids and it was so lovely to get to capture this most special day in their lives.

And everything was special about the day...the place, one of my favorite venues, The Bee and Thistle Inn in Old Lyme, was the perfect backdrop and setting for this magical union. Carol Schilling officiated and details from the cake to the flowers to the table design to the place cards and menu were all the doing of master event planner Linnea Rufo, the ever-graceful and creative InnKeeper.

And if all this goodness wasn't quite enough, Nancy was truly a vision. She has silver blonde hair...I've never seen anything quite like it, and she, along with her amazing hair, were completely captivating - my camera and I had a field day. And Matt was quite the catch as well, so as you will see below, these two kids were completely gorgeous and totally head over heels for each other.

So, you see, it was a truly lovely way for my 2011 season to conclude. And I want to take a moment to thank all of my wonderful and amazing couples from this year. I am so blessed to have met all of you and am honored to be the one who got to capture one of the most important days in your lives. All of your love stories are unique and it was so wonderful to constantly bear witness to such love and fullness of heart. You all are truly inspiring and it so makes me look forward to the day when I meet my match :) Thank you all, for showing me what the meaning of true love is. I am so glad that I got to make some art out it for you all :)

Her Wedding becomes real. And it is in that beautiful moment when tears of joy creep up to the surface, and drip down happy cheeks :)

Alas, but victory was theirs today on the football field. And I titled it, this post and dedication, the quote by Alfred, Lord Tennyson because it triggers the instant thought of The Blind Side and the story of Michael Ohr. Which is about a boy who came from the hard side of town. A boy who, with support and dedication, learned what it means to be a winner...in football, and in life. His was a story of glory. And victory. And learning, and love, and losing and winning.

And ultimately one ending in a mighty slash in the "W" column. And today, the Falcons, a team of little footballers, came out on the other side of battle with a "W". Part of why I enjoyed photographing this so much is because it reminded me of what it was like to learn how to play a sport when I was kid. And what it meant to be on a team. What it meant to want to be better and get to the next level.

These are life lessons that I learned on the softball field. Lessons that have armed me for the daily battle of winning at this life. Sports and music and art make the world go round. These activities create an invaluable resource for learning, owning responsibility, drive, dedication, and grit as kids learn how to realize their potential and become everything they want to be.

Let's keep instilling this thought into our children. Let's raise the bar beyond societal expectation and actually push for them to make their dreams come true. The only thing stopping us from achieving our potential is ourselves. So, let's cheer on the champions that we all can be :)

And it was beautiful. Their love is beautiful. And they danced. And they kissed. And they gave me hope that I will find a love like theirs one day :)

Ania has been my shooting with me all season, and Melissa has recently joined on the team as well. So happy to be working with them both :)

I started prepping a Sneak Peek for Alice and Brian of my faves from their Wedding last Saturday when I looked up and suddenly noticed that their folder had 95 pictures that I was working on.

For their sneak peek.

Their Wedding was that beautiful.

You see, this year has been all about balance. And restraint. See, these weddings, one after another, in their beauty, stings me to the core with happiness in a way that I didn't know was quite possible.

This year, I have made strides. I have really started to hone my vision. And shoot exactly how I want to, rather than shooting in someone else's vision of the way I should shoot. This has to do with my complete rejection of societal expectation. And that's also why I have been blogging little bits here, little bits there. Because that's how I want to be presenting my work. Because each time is different...and each time is a little treat for you to tuck in the back pocket of your minds to pull out in moments of simple joy and wanting to appreciate something pretty.

I have also been holding back on showing more because I am going to be getting lots of these beauties published. But, I have recently found out that most blogs will publish what has already been on a photographer's blog. So, now I will show you what I want. When I want to. :)

So, I will continue on with posting in the way I want to of the work that i shoot how I want to. And it all is a vintage beauty of a dream...sometimes with a modern twist and total photojournalistic leanings.

Let your tired eyes be inspired by this black and white and sepia toned sneak peek...trust that there is SOOOOO much more from not only this wedding, but also from the wedding before...and the wedding before...and the wedding before...

I love being an artist :)

It plucks my heartstrings...and violin music comes out :)

Now, excuse me while I text Alice and Brian that their sneak peek is up. They texted me from their Honeymoon in Mexico today to say how excited they were to see the photographs...so here's to a little Honeymoon surprise for the Newleyweds.
