My personal policy is that there’s no reason to be talking to any exes; mine, yours, whatever.  Here Jones has the awkwardness painting him in to a corner without him ever picking up a brush.

In my own case, even if the love of my life didn’t have something to say about it, there’s no need to dig into the past for friendship.  Everything I need is here today.  Jones has no such luxury, and if he did he’d still be working the freeloader angle somehow, whether he knew it or not.  Some of you may wonder what the heck I know about being a freeloader, but that’s a story we absolutely don’t need to get into here.  You might say that Jones is my altar ego, except that the ego I already have wouldn’t tolerate the competition.  Even then, there wouldn’t be room for two of ‘em up on some dang altar anyway.  Untangle that mess–I dare ya!

I’d like to thank my friends at World Famous Johnny’s Bar and Grill in Hollister for putting some Jones goodies in the raffle at at the Budman Memorial run.  Truly, I don’t know the history of this guy, but I get that he was a veteran and locally loved by many.  The event was to benefit the San Benito County Homeless Coalition, which I believe to be a worthy cause.  Say what you want, but I’ve been near the street a few times myself in years past and have never forgotten it.  I suspect it’s hard to come out of the cold for some, and a little care is all some folks need to get started again.  The folks at Johnny’s are always good to me–and I should mention they are one of my top recommended places for a burger in Hollister.

Just when you thought they were best buds, Longarms has to play the cop card on Jones…

Makes you wonder–does Jones just hang out with Longarms because they work together and he doesn’t want to get in trouble, or does he actually think they’re friends?  Neither would surprise me, considering how often Jones surprises me, his alter ego.  And at different times, both are probably true, to some extent.

But what next? Jones has been charged with a mission–to build a bike for his long lost son.  Where to build it?

Sometimes we have something like a failure to communicate.

This just in from Cyril Huze blog.  There’s apparently a new Ink Butter for Tattoo Aftercare. All good, seems like a smart idea to me.  I’ve got three relatively lame tattoos, and I’m not really in a position to add more ink at this point.    In all ways, the stuff just seems like a good idea, if a bit costly at $18 for 2 oz.  If you think about it, though, that’s cheap, really, considering the investment that a tattoo represents on your body.  You really want it to look as good in twenty years as the week after you first got it.

My only contention is purely semantics.  Cyril uses the phrase “nourish your skin” somewhere in his write up. For all I know, that’s straight out of the copy from the company that makes teh stuff.  But for the love of Jones, shouldn’t we use something that sounds a little less like an Oil of Olay commercial?  I’m thinking something like “tattoo maintenance”, “skin strengthening”, or “toughening your tat”.  I’m just sayin’…

You may recall our friend Doc, who found Jones in the desert after our boy uttered perhaps his only prayer ever. Naturally, Jones sorta stepped on the gift and missed the point entirely.

As for stories related to the Nigerian widow scam, have you ever known anyone to fall for it? I had a friend who was terrible close, and was pretty bummed when I told him the truth and showed him some media related to the issue. Stories, I wanna hear stories!

Finally, I caught the chatter at Cyrll Huze Blog the other day about the new Victory Judge, one of the latest in the Victory line of bikes. There isn’t a whole lot of middle ground on this. Folks either hate ‘em or love ‘em. One of the readers commented that a fair number of fairly prominent riders, including none other than Sonny Barger, ride Victory. I think that right out of the box they’re not too great, but I get how dynamite they are in terms of engineering, power, and handling. The ticket, I think, is in customizing and paint. I’m not so sure how well they fit the taller rider, but I did see a dude about my height riding a Victory Cross Country last summer. I might add that the bike was fully customized in terms of paint and chrome.

Anyway, thought you might dig this video from Victory. Clearly not reality programming, obviously scripted and sculpted, but I always get a kick out of Gunny. And there’s a shot of a Victory Cross Roads at :33 that sorta gets my attention a little. I’m not changing bikes, but I’m not a hater, either.

First off, I gotta give credit where credit is due. Reader Alan used the punch line here in a comment to Friday’s strip, and I grabbed onto it, knowing it to be gold as so many of his comments are, and something to push the story forward.  Ironical to hear it coming from Longarms’ mouth instead of Jones, but you hafta remember that he rides too.

This strip is dedicated to R.M., a young man who was in my class when I first came to Hollister.  He died in a car accident Friday January 13 about 3am when the driver lost control and hit a street light.  Good kid, who will be missed by his family and friends in this community.  Prayers out also for the driver and her family.
