hi folks,, this has been fun for me, to be able to do something a little different,, and soon you will know what it is,, i painted it last night and have one more video to make,, there are many projects you can make out of the cone shape blank ,, and i plan to do more project out of this blank,, but thanks so far to those that are guessing what it is,,,,, if you like to see what folks think it is ,, go and ck out the comments on the videos of this project , i am only posting those that are wrong,, and no one has given me a right answer yet,,, thanks also for not posting your guess on facebook,, and only on my youtube channel,, well its time to go and load another video up on this project ,, i hope your having as much fun as i am,, keep carving and watching, take care everyone , arleen

hi folks, i know its been a while,, sorry life gets busy at times,, and trying to get a few things done,, but we are in for some snow,, lol 1-3 inches wow,,, really folks, the way they report it on the news, you think we wouldnt get out for days,, its always like this,, and by the time the end of winter,, lol its not a big deal to get 1-3 inches,, so tomorrow i plan to get in a very simple project for beginners,, and try to get a few things done here at the farm,, lots to clean up,, just things that needed to be done for a long time, so i will see what the weather is when i get up,, the weather people reporting stuff this year , well they have missed the mark more then once this passed year,, well keep carving, and i be either carving or plowing tomorrow,, think it will be carving,, :) arleen

road blocks, ....... can be frustrating

hi folks, i dont often say that i am frustrated,, i am human and i do from time to time,,,, as i began to look for a place to teach,, i found road blocks,, and what are road blocks, well they get in the way of what we want to do... so back to the drawing board again,, went to look at another way of doing things,, and again another road block,, i beginning to wonder if i just should give up,, that is the way i feel, but that isnt what i am going to do,, then there has to be something better,, is how i need to look at it,,, same applies for carving,, if you come up to road blocks well maybe you need to do it different,,,,, i have to admit dont like road blocks , life of course can not be that simple , but i also have come to realize that maybe the road block was there not only to teach us to be patience, but i am learning not to see them as failures but maybe something better that i missed, that i need to find. so i continue to search , and one day this too shall come to pass,, and lo and behold this will become another lesson in life , keep carving,, i will be too, :)

quick answer which ever is easier to cut LOL , both are good, i have both here at the farm,, also i found both to be hard at times, and soft to cut , so for me its a toss up,, all my projects on youtube are from both,, air, and kiln , so some folks will tell you one or the other is better,, you will not know until you try.. so my suggestion is try both,, and buy whatever works best for you ,, right now i like the air. and the most ask question is where do i get it ,,well right now , i got plenty of the air dried, to last me a long time,, cause i bought it local, if you can buy it local from a carving supply store will be the best, even better would be go to a carving show,, your sure to have a selection of sizes and your able to see it,, the more white the better they say, i use to think that was true, that isnt always the case,, so if your like many carvers,, you will get good and bad wood,, its just the way it goes,, but if you find a source that doesnt over charge you per board foot, and the shipping is right then go for it,, i believe basswood should not be over 5.00 per board foot or a lot less ,, i got my last batch for a bit over a 1.00 i bought it in bulk,, which i understand many can not do that due either by cost or just where the heck do you store all of it? ,, i just happen to find this deal which really doesnt happen to often,, but i felt if i was going to do more teaching well it was foolish not to go ahead and get it,, it was worth the investment,, and if i dont use it for teaching,, well i got enough for a long long time,, lol,,, so shop around ,, always ask for a TOTAL price on your order,, and ask what is the per board foot, your total price should have the shipping included.

some things to remember >>>>>>.

1.... go to a local carving shop,, i got many good deals at my local wood carving shop

2... go to a wood carving show,, your able to compare prices if there are a few vendors

3... internet,, google,, woodcarving supplies,, and a bunch of stuff should come up

4 ... do not buy from a hobby/ chain store,, i found the wood to hard, and very expensive

5... lumber mills might have some , if you happen to live in the country

6... make sure the price per board foot is not over 5.00 dont forget if your order it to be shipped get the cost of shipping,, wood is heavy to ship,,

7... either air or kiln is good

8.. to calculate price per board foot,, if you have a 2 inches x 4 inches x 20 inches long = 160 then you / by 144 = 1.11 board foot ((THE NUMBER TO REMEMBER IS 144,..... 144 IS ALWAYS USED TO CALULATE ))

so if you paid 5.00 for it ,,,, 5.00 / by 1.11 = 4.50 is the price per board foot ,,

hi folks,, i am here with my folks as i normally am on new years eve,, and we have a tradition of eating an old dutch tradition that oliebollen, which is dutch donuts,, which is dough with raisins, and put in a deep fryer,, and we eat it with confection sugar,, very good,, they have made this in holland for over 100 years,, and many dutch families enjoy this treat every year,,, and i enjoy ours tonight,, i want you folks to know that i tried to get mom to do a youtube video with me ,, and i would call it cooking with my dutch mama, but she isnt to thrilled with the idea,, but i almost got her to do it tonight with making of this dutch tradition,, lol ,, maybe next time around,, i tease her all the time that we should do a video together,, that way i have all her good recipes on tape, if not on youtube for my own collection,, well i want to wish many of you a very happy new year,, i plan to relax visiting some friend tomorrow, and also letting you know i plan of course to have some new projects in jan,, i been working on getting a new shop here at the farm is still going on,, but i am sure hoping this year a good one, keep carving folks, and thanks again for all of you that enjoy watching my videos , blog and facebook,, may god bless us in the new year,, take care arleen

relaxing time after the holidays? finding carving time...?

hi folks i dont know about you, but after the holidays most of us need just to relax,, i am looking forward the rest of the week to be a bit more quite,, its wonderful to have family around for the holidays, but its not just the company but the shopping and getting the holiday food, for dinners , cleaning up stuff before folks come over etc, like many of you..... it did not leave a lot of time to carve, lately i have to find slot of time to do any carving, lol not complaining cause if i were to carve each and every minute, then it wouldn't be special when i finally would sit down to carve, like all things to much of anything doesn't make it special anymore,, i want to keep my interest in carving special, refreshing, and rewarding.... now as a new year approaches i wonder what it will bring,, i will be sure to think that one over for a couple of days... hope your able to find a bit of time to carve, you can bet i will try to get some carving in this week,,, keep carving, arleen
