Hace algunos días mis papás nos regalaron dos lámparas knappa, de ikea. Son lindísimas, y baratas (29 dólares), aunque por supuesto, en ikea. En México si acaso las encuentras te las venden en el equivalente a 100 dólares o más, así que decir que estoy feliz con el regalo es poco. =)

La armé y estuve a punto de colgarla en la sala cuando, oh sorpresa, la lámpara no viene con la terminación adecuada para colgarla en el techo, sino que ¡termina en enchufe! Qué cosa tan rara, o sea que si en lugar de foco tuviera donde conectar el enchufe en el techo, estaría ideal, pero teniendo el registro normal que tienen todas las casas donde va un foco, no sirve. Parece ser que la única solución para no tener el cable colgando por el techo y la pared, como sugiere ikea, es cortar el cable e instalarla en el techo directamente, pero primero debo encontrar una linda tapita que cubra el hoyo que quedará expuesto.

La lámpara ya encontró su lugar temporal en la sala, sobre la mesa que hice en mi diplomado de carpintería. A mí me encanta cómo se ve… es tan linda que podría colgarla en cualquier lugar de la casa… de hecho me encantaría en mi cuarto o en las escaleras, pero mientras conseguimos la tapita está ahí.

Mientras tanto, me he dedicado a buscar fotos de cómo otra gente instala esta lámpara. Casi ninguna foto muestra cómo se ve la instalación en el techo, pero sí muestran lo mucho que luce en cualquier lugar donde se instale…

La entrada de ayer me hizo pensar en cuántas cosas han cambiado respecto a lo que combina y no. En esta ocasión, las protagonistas son las sillas diferentes, tendencia que tiene un par de años y cada vez va más en aumento. ¿Cuándo hubiéramos creído que esto fuera posible o bien visto? Y sin embargo, qué bonito se ve en estas imágenes, ¿no crees? En la mezcla se permite de todo: la misma silla en diferentes colores, sillas diferentes en el mismo color, o cada silla diferente. De lo que se trata es de crear espacios que reflejen tu estilo y gustos. ¿Te atreves?

Yesterday’s post made me think about how many things have changed in terms of what goes well together and what doesn’t. This time around it’s about mismatched chairs. This is no new trend, it’s been around for some years now, but each time it gets stronger and stronger. Would you have ever thought it looked good, years ago? And yet, it does! Everything is allowed: same chair, different tones; different chairs, same tone; everything different. It’s all about creating a space you love which reflets your taste and style. Do you like it?

Se trata de la casa de la diseñadora de moda Vanessa Bruno, quien adquirió esta vivienda de 1650 y la decoró con muy buen gusto y objetos nuevos y también algunos no tan nuevos encontrados en mercados de pulgas franceses y daneses.

What is it about Paris that captures me so much? At least I know I’m not alone in this. =)

I found the lovely bohemian home of fashion designer Vanessa Bruno, and had to share. It’s a 1650 house, decorated with amazingly good taste, and a mix of old and new objects found in French and Danish flea markets.

Me encanta la mezcla de elementos diferentes, y sin embargo, tan bien coordinados. Recuerdo cuando antes daba miendo mezlcar diferentes tonos de maderas, o el café con el negro… y sin embargo, aquí todos conviven de maravilla. Sin duda, un hogar acogedor.

I love the mix of different elements, and yet so well coordinated. I remember sometime ago when it was unthinkable to place one wood color next to another one, or even black and brown together, and still, they all look perfect in here! Without any doubt a very inviting home to me.

El día de hoy, una casa para soñar. El Loft 24/7 fue diseñado por la brasileña Fernanda Marques y es una verdadera obra de arte, ya que integra los espacios exteriores a los interiores de una manera increíble. Amplísimos ventanales, agua, plantas, piedra, en fin, muchos elementos naturales hacen que esta casa sea un verdadero refugio. Sin duda alguna, mi habitación favorita es la de la primera foto… me encantaría pasar una tarde en ese sofá frente a la chimenea! Y por último, algo muy interesante es el acomodo que se le dio a los libros en el dormitorio principal, ¿no crees? Si bien se genera una composición bastante interesante, dudo de la funcionalidad. ¿Te imaginas encontrar un libro?

I’ve got a dream home today. This is Loft 24/7, by Brazilian Designer Fernanda Marques, a true masterpiece. I love the way it integrates outdoor and indoor. Amazing! Huge windows, open ceilings, water, plants, stone… lots of natural elements make this home a singular shelter. My absolute favorite space is the living room in the first picture… I’d love to spend an afternoon in front of that chimney. Another interesting thing is the book layout in the master bedroom, don’t you think? I love the way it looks, but I wonder how functional it really is. Can you picture yourself looking for a specific book? =)

El asunto de los cables a la hora de cargar el celular suele ser un problema. El cargador por un lado, el celular por otro, y mucho cable de por medio… desorganización total. Todo esto se resuelve con una estación de cargado. Lo novedoso de ésta en particular, es que se trata de un proyecto diy (o hum) de reciclaje. Todo lo que necesitas para empezar es un bote vacío. Cuando veo proyectos así de fáciles y lindos pienso: ¿pero cómo no se me ocurrió a mí? =)

Cords and cables are usually a mess when charging your cell phone. Charger one side, cell on the other, lots of messy cable in between… total chaos! This is solved by a charging station, and there are lots of places where you can buy one – unless you make it yourself. The great thing about this DIY is it’s also an upcycling project. Neat! All you need to get started is an empty bottle. When I see such great DIYs I can’t help but thinking: wish I had thought about this before!

Los pasos son muy fáciles y prácticamente se explican solos, pero aquí van algunas palabras:

-Traza la figura en el bote vacío y limpio (en este caso se usó un bote para crema corporal).

-Corta con tijeras o cutter.

-Lija los bordes y las impresiones de letras para que el bote quede en blanco.

-Cubre con tela y pegamento para decoupage.

¡Listo!

Steps are quite easy and self-explanatory, but here are a few words:

-Trace desired shape on clean and empty bottle (in this case a lotion bottle was used).

-Cut with scissors or exacto knife.

-Sand borders and letters.

-Cover with fabric and mod podge.

Ubicado en una antigua fábrica francesa, este auténtico loft fue renovado con mucho éxito y decorado usando piezas vintage (me encanta cómo lucen las tulip en el comedor y la oficina). Un lugar muy sobrio donde los grises y demás neutros dan paso a detalles de color. A pesar de ser amante de las cocinas blancas, debo decir que ésta en color negro me encanta. ;)

Feliz ombligo de semana.

Located in what used to be an old factory, this loft was beautifully renovated and decorated with vintage and designer pieces (I love the Tulip set in the dining room and office). A perfect little cozy home based on grays and splashes of color here and there. ;)

Así que, estos son algunos de los stands que más llamaron mi atención. ;)

A couple of months ago I received an invitation for a very interesting event. It’s a Mexican gift and decor fair, so I got thrilled. I love home accesories, and if their handcrafted by Mexican artisans, sounds even better. So this weekend I went to Expo Enart 2012, in the heart of Tlaquepaque, Mexico’s famous craft town. These are some of the shops that captured my attention.

En primer lugar, tenemos a Amanda, con sus creaciones llenas de semillas y naturaleza. Las esferas cubiertas de esta manera son muy populares en la decoración mexicana, sin embargo, vale la pena resaltar que Amanda viene creándolas desde hace 25 años. A mí me siguen pareciendo hermosas.

First, let me introduce you to Amanda, with its famous seed handcrafted ornaments. Seed spheres are very popular in Mexico, however, Amanda has been a pioneer, making them for the last 25 years. I find them beautiful.

Amanda también tiene otros artículos con la misma línea, estos espejos me fascinaron.

Amanda has more home accesories than only spheres. I personally love the mirror collection.

Ahora, si buscas arte original para tu casa, una excelente propuesta es la del fotógrafo Arturo Osorno. Me encantaron sus composiciónes con impresiones genuinas (no son copias), me parece que van genial para cualquier tipo de decoración y espacio. Además, tiene muchos temas de donde puedes escoger.

Another favorite was photographer Arturo Osorno. If you’re looking for original art, this is it. I love his compositions and colors. I think they are perfect for any decorating style and space. Plus, there’s plenty of photos for you to choose from.

Por último, para los amantes del buen kitsch, las creaciones de Rocío Pindter. Tiene muchísimas cosas increíbles. Me encantan los marcos de espejos. Y mis favoritas son las cruces.

Last but not least, for the kitsch fans out there, Rocio Pindter’s creations. She’s got lots of great stuff. I love these mirror frames. And of course, my personal favorites, the crosses.

¿No son hermosas? Me encanta cómo están puestas, todas juntas, creo que logran una composición increíble… ¿te imaginas hacer un punto focal con una pared? Muy mexicanas y modernas al mismo tiempo.

Aren’t they pretty? I love how they look together, making an amazing focal point for a room. Totally Mexican and modern at the same time.

Por supuesto, tengo más favoritos, pero no quiero saturar la entrada con todos al mismo tiempo. Así que te espero mañana para más diseñadores mexicanos. ;)

Se trata de una revista impresa, no digital, y aunque no se vende en México, me encantó conocerla a través de Issuu, donde puedes ver algunas páginas de sus ediciones actuales y anteriores. Aquí algunas de las fotografías de interiores que me inspiraron y enamoraron.

Today I made the greatest discovery when I learned about Anthology Mag. It’s a print magazine, not digital, but you can see a preview of each edition at Issuu. That’s how I fell in love.

¿Verdad que hay cosas increíbles? Una excelente opción si quieres navegar un rato y leer. Hay buena fotografía, decoración y estilismo, así que te la recomiendo mucho.
