7:00 a.m. – Legislative Breakfast, Room 3100, Legislative Building

You must be on our guest list to attend.  Please email your name, address and email to carenjenkins@rocketmail.com to reserve a space.  There is no cost for this meal for CASA staff or volunteer advocates or for legislators, thanks to our Kiwanis Ambassadors for CASA.

 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. – Free Time

Visit your elected representatives, sit in on a committee meeting, get to know the legislative process, lobby for CASA, tour Carson City . . . .

 11:00 a.m. – Floor Session, Assembly Chambers, Legislative Building

We will arrange for you to sit with a member of the Nevada Legislature.  Just send an email expressing your interest to carenjenkins@rocketmail.com.   You MUST indicate you want to be assigned a legislator to have arrangements made. You will receive a special certificate and will be noted in the Assembly Journal.  If you prefer not to sit with a legislator, you are welcome to sit in the Assembly Gallery to watch the proceedings.

Parking may be tight, but public lots are available across 5th Street to the South of the Legislative Building – look for the rose hedges.  Also, parking may be available on Curry Street across Carson Street and one block to the West of the Legislative Building, between 2nd and 4th Streets.  That’s behind the Firkin & Fox, Pop’s Diner, and other restaurants just north of the Legislative Building.

On CASA SPEAK UP FOR A CHILD DAY – feel free to wear your CASA shirts and speak professionally, with respect for the government institution.  Tell your story about CASA.  And remember, our elected representatives WANT and NEED to hear from real people like you.  Try not to be intimidated by the process. 

We are there to help make friends for CASA.

We are grateful to have the wonderful support of the young men of UNLV’s Omega Delta Phi Fraternity, Inc. who have committed to supporting the mission and efforts of the CASA Program, both locally and nationally.  In 2010, these young men have been a tremendous support to helping to raise awareness about the CASA Program, as they went to various Star Nurserys and Walmart Stores and placed CASA Informational markers in  hundreds of plants.  We are hopeful that many of the gardeners might become interested in joining our network. 

Additionally, these guys volunteered their time to help at the 30th Year Anniversary Celebration at the CASA Foundation Gala and the 2010 CASA Angel Tree event. We appreciate the dedication and commitment of the members of Omega Delta Phi Fraternity, Inc. and look forward to their ongoing support.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of the CASAs 4 CASAs, a subcommittee of the CASA Foundation, and the many sponsors, donors, and of course the all the volunteers who helped prior to and during the party, the 2010 CASA Angel Tree event was a huge success. 

Nearly 1300 foster children were provided with great gifts and/or gift cards so that they could purchase items of their choice.   The children and adults who attended the party had a great time. 

All active CASA volunteers should contact his/her CASA Coordinator and request the Each One Reach One business cards, so that you can begin spreading the word and helping us recruit new volunteers. Call (702) 455-4306 for more information.
