-Maxbounty offers a large number of incentive CPL (cost-per-lead) campaigns. Most companies only have CPS (cost-per-sale) campaigns available for incentive traffic, but Maxbounty has several email- and zip-submit campaigns at any one time. This allows for a considerable amount of flexibility in your marketing strategy.
-If you have international traffic (that is, non-US or -UK), then Maxbounty typically has a fairly large number of offers available.  They don’t have as many as some other networks, but their selection is reasonably large.  Unfortunately, their default offer for traffic that they can’t use (traffic from countries that they don’t have an offer for) is something called “SurveyScout,” which is an absolutely terrible campaign and hardly ever converts (at least for the Editor writing this piece).  In over 140,000 clicks, there has only been one conversion, netting just over $20. I don’t think anyone would call those good numbers.

Despite these small shortcomings, Maxbounty is a wonderful network that has a good reputation online as a legitimate business that pays on time. They pay out via check and ACH deposit (at certain revenue levels), but unfortunately do not have a Paypal payout option as of the time of this writing. Keep in mind that Maxbounty has become increasingly difficult to get into over the couple of years that they’ve been around. So, if you’re waiting to try them out, it might be better to go ahead and apply rather than wait, because the more popular they become with top affiliates, the more difficult they’re going to be to get into. We at CashBackAffiliates heartily recommend Maxbounty to everyone from the beginner to seasoned affiliate marketers.

Leadbolt is a new content gateway company that has opened up. They are based in Australia and do pretty much the same thing as other incentive widget companies do: if you have content that you would like “blocked” from users, you can utilize their tools to try and get your users to perform a task (such as complete a survey) in order to get to your content. They don’t only do this — they have a couple other features as well, such as impression advertising — but content gateways is their main source of traffic.

Since Leadbolt is the new kid on the block in content gateway companies, we at CashBackAffiliates figured we should give them a try and compare earnings to what a user can expect on other networks such as CPALead with similar content. What were the results?

Well, the main thing we can say is that our earnings were inconsistent. With Leadbolt, you are not able to control which offers show up in your gateway. They handle that “for” you, which they believe is a better way of doing it because they’re the experts and can see a lot more data than you can. Personally, we at CashBackAffiliates do not prefer this method; we prefer there be at least the option of disabling some offers. There are several good reasons for this argument, but this is Leadbolt’s business plan so they can do what they please. For the vast majority of publishers, they’re probably correct in their assumption that they can manage the ads better than the publisher can.

One of the cool features of Leadbolt is that you can specify the niche that your content is in and they will tailor which offers appear depending upon that niche. For example, if you have an “adult” site, you can choose that niche, and they will display adult advertisements. If you have a tv streaming site, you can choose that and they will use their aggregate information to decide what ads typically do well on tv sites. This kind of makes up for the inability to choose which ads show up on your gateway to a degree.

Their gateway creation wizard is very intuitive and presented no problems to use at CBA. We were able to within a few clicks create and edit gateways to put on our sites, with no confusion whatsoever. They aren’t very flexible in what you can do in the way that InstantDollarz or Adscend are, but Leadbolt is flexible enough for most users, including this reviewer.

Their payout options are slim, currently only allowing wire and Paypal, but they do pay out on time and without any hassle. We have been paid several thousand dollars so far with no issues at all. For most publishers, the payout frequency is once per month net-30, but if you do over $3000 in revenue per day you can get into their VIP program (more details below) and likely receive your payments more frequently.

Their referral system payouts are very bad compared to all other incentive gateway companies. The industry average is a payout of 5% for the life of the account, but with Leadbolt they only pay out 2.5% for the first six months, then nothing after that. We have asked them to change this but thus far no luck — maybe if you readers appeal we’ll be able to see a change?

Azoogle Ads is one of the most popular affiliate networks in the IM world today.  They were founded in 2000, which, in affiliate company years, is akin to being about 100 years old.  They’re veterans in the affiliate marketing world and as such have thousands of active publishers pushing their offers.

IMPORTANT: Azoogle is not currently eligible for referral cashback earnings as they require the referrer to maintain $1000 per month in revenues, something which CashBackAffiliates is not set up to do as we are solely here for referring new customers rather than acting as a publisher ourself.

Because of their size and popularity, it’s fairly difficult to gain admission to their service.  They primarily look for affiliates with well-established sites or proven track records of successful PPC campaigns.  You can expect to have to have a phone interview before you’re accepted.  It’s not difficult to find tales of people online who have applied several times just to get in.  There’s a good reason for that, and you’ll be thankful once you do get accepted!

When first perusing their offers, one might notice that the rates are sometimes lower than their competitors.  However, with a quick email to the affiliate manager and by sending some successful traffic to the offer, you can usually get a boost on the payout.

One of the most convenient things about Azoogle is that they geotarget traffic that cannot take advantage of the offer you’re advertising.  So, if you’re advertising a US-only offer and someone from New Zealand clicks through, Azoogle will route them to a New Zealand offer rather than to a generic CPS offer as is the default in some other networks.

They pay on a net15 basis if you do a few hundred dollars a week through them, and the methods of payment are check or ACH.  They lose points here as there is no “instant” method of payment such as Paypal available.

While Azoogle is not available for our cashback program, they are still a program worth considering for your marketing efforts.  Their longevity, number of offers, and good support make them a safe choice for most any affiliate marketer.

Copeac is one the most highly regarded affiliate networks in the industry.  They have a wide variety of offers, and they go the extra step by giving you a variety of tools to help promote your offers, such as coupon codes giving your visitors discounts on the services they’re checking out.

Not only do they have a wide variety of offers spanning across many categories, but their support is superb.  Once you’re accepted, they assign you a affiliate manager, and in this Editor’s experience (as well as many others’ experiences), the one-on-one help that the AM provides really goes above and beyond what you normally find in an affiliate company.  For example, many AMs will send out “offer sheets” based on your strengths or what you’re interested in promoting.  These sheets essentially lay out in an easy-to-read format exactly what the AM thinks you’ll do well on given your performance, and they contain the links you’ll need to get started.  So, rather than spending hours sifting through their 400+ campaigns, the affiliate manager takes on some of that burden.

Because of their popularity, Copeac does require a phone call to be accepted.  As we mention in other reviews, this is a plus, as it helps weed out the not-so-honest publishers from the network, allowing the good guys (us!) to have higher payout rates.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last year, you’ve probably heard the hype surrounding the relatively new company, CPALead.  They’re one of the most talked-about affiliate companies in the space today because of their innovative approach to getting leads and the outstanding support and attention they pay to their publishers and advertisers.

CPALead offers a “Premium Content Gateway,” which is essentially a javascript overlay covering an area of your site that restricts access—unless the visitor performs a certain action. In plainer terms, a site visitor must complete an advertiser’s offer in order to access the best parts of your site. These offers are usually surveys or email-submits that range in length from 1 page to upwards of 10 pages before the pixel fires. Some site owners use the gateway to restrict access to TV shows or movies and other site owners on proxy or downloads sites. This method of collecting ad revenue even works on a simple blog that contains information desirable enough for a visitor to complete an offer to gain access.

Because of its size, CPALead has been able to consistently get higher payouts for campaigns than the other gateway companies that have popped up — such as Adscend, Leadbolt and InstantDollarz — which has of course lead to CPALead getting even more publishers…hence the hype surrounding the company. In November 2008 they had just over 8000 publishers; as of November 2009 they had over 40000. That’s some serious year-over-year growth! [Read Edit Below for Updated Information]

Some have complained that CPALead’s payouts per lead are lower than some other networks who have the same offers, but CPALead’s CVO, Troy Krzyston, explains that the conversion percentage at CPALead is much higher, thus leaving the publishers with a much higher EPC than they would otherwise get.  We know, of course, that EPC is what really matters in this affiliate marketing world.

CPALead gets five stars in our rating of its timely payouts.  They offer wires, ACH, Paypal, and checks, and at a relatively low threshold ($1000/month) offer more frequent payout terms.

They currently pay out a 5% referral bonus, of which you are eligible to receive 20% when you are a member here at CashBackAffiliates.  With some people making a massive amount with the network (this Editor making over $40k one month), there is little reason to hesitate, so we fully recommend that you join CPALead now.

UPDATE 8/5/2010: CPALead has recently begun a purge of publishers who were not active or who did any sort of fake content. Also, they have begun removing peoples’ accounts who have copyrighted material on their pages without permission from the copyright owners. There has been some backlash, but CPALead believes it will be for the better of the industry as a whole, so they’re going forward with the decision. That said, if you have joined through us before, you may want to do it again, as all of our referrals were removed during the purge — including one of our writers (for inactivity)!

This is a review of Zangocash, also known as Pinball Publisher Network or PPN. This company has been around (if you count the Zango years) since 1999, during which time it has evolved in many ways and stayed very much the same in others. While controversial at times, it has maintained popularity among affiliate marketers in certain niches for many years and has made many affiliates thousands of dollars over that time.

PPN allows you to promote their products in two different ways:

1. The first method is what they call the “Content Program.” This is essentially a way to offer content like videos, screensavers, and some open source programs (like Firefox and OpenOffice) to your users for free, and you get paid for the installations.
.
2. The other method for generating revenue is called the “Advertising Program.” This is actually very similar to the gateway programs like Loudmo and CPALead: it’s a javascript box that pops over your normal website, and in order to bypass it the user must install the “hotbar” software that they offer.
.
For years, Zango was in the crosshairs of those who look out for Netizens because of its alleged spyware installations. At one point, Symantec considered its software to be spyware and would remove it on normal spyware scans. While Zango technically did not do the things that normal spyware does, it was quite difficult to remove Zango at times and that earned them quite a bit of flack.

Now, with PPN owning the Zango software and methods, things have changed somewhat, and the company is on the road to having a better online reputation. While it’s no longer seen as spyware, it can sometimes be just as annoying to those who don’t know how they installed the software in the first place (their own ignorance, to be fair).

The company pays out on different tiers depending upon how many downloads per month you’re generating, as well as which countries the downloads are originating from. Installs will pay you as little as $.10 each to as much as $1.45.

Hybryd Ads is one of the smaller affiliate networks out there, but one that is still worth noting. Despite their size, they have a sizeable number of campaigns, and because of their size they have very good customer support.

They mainly focus on more high-dollar CPA campaigns, so if you’re looking for tons of email-submit campaigns they’re not your place. However, if you’re into insurance, debt, loans, edu, etc., then they’re a good one-stop-shop. Plus, in our experience they have been very swift in getting new offers that we request which they don’t already have.

The main downside to Hybryd in this reviewer’s opinion is the fact that you have to “request” to be on every single offer. This is terribly annoying and really slows things down, so in general this reviewer tends to shy away from those types of networks.

Hybryd Ads has had no problem paying on time in the few months we’ve used them. They pay via check or ACH (no Paypal) on a net-30 basis. They do have a referral program, but we’re not entirely sure how to work it, so for now assume it’s 5% and that it IS eligible for cash back — we just have to figure out a few kinks first. Pepperjam is one of the most highly regarded affiliate networks on the Internet today, and for good reason: they’re difficult to get into, they have a massive amount of advertisers (many of which are “big name” companies like you would find on CJ), and their support is known to be pretty good.

First off, we want to note that we applied to be allowed into their affiliate referral program, and unfortunately have not heard back in several days since applying.  This obviously does not bode well for their “support” rating. Because of us not being in the program as of yet, we cannot offer you cashback for signing up with the program.

Pepperjam has been around long enough (since 1999) to have developed strong relationships with some of the biggest affiliate marketers on the Internet.  Besides that, they are considered an “authority” by many big financial online magazines such as Forbes.com, CNNMoney.com, and Entrepreneur.com.  The spotlighting of their services by these other companies, combined with their longevity in the business, has lead them to get some of the biggest and best companies on-board as advertisers.  Some examples currently include BBC America, Calvin Klein Jeans, and Dollar Tree.

As we mentioned earlier, Pepperjam is a selective network and will require a phone interview in order to get in.  So long as you’re well-versed in your marketing lingo and you have a good bit of experience under your belt, you should be able to make it in.

One of the major downsides to Pepperjam is that you have to “apply” to join their programs.  So, you’ve already applied to get into their network — then you have to apply to join any of their programs.  I’m sure this is seen in a positive light to their advertisers, who can be more selective in who they have promote their offers (similar to those on CJ), but it seems slightly superfluous to have a double-application process for even the most basic of campaigns, such as email-submits.

Pepperjam pays out via check or ACH by default on a net30 basis with a minimum payout of $25, pretty good compared to many other networks.  We’ve heard stories of people being paid via Paypal, but we are unable to find any documentation of that in the account.
