"Great Camera from Casio" 2010-06-10

So I purchased the Ex-F150 with high hopes. And so far have been very pleased with the results. When push comes to shove, the fc150 is a point and shoot, so you cannot expect the quality to be the same as its mother camera the fc100 slr. I previously owned a Canon Powershot 750 7.1Mpxl camera, and I think that the casio takes better pictures with its many settings for lowlight, high speed and numerous other settings. These allow shots that were previously impossible with my Canon, the video looks fantastic (if you want to see the slowmotion vid's i have taken search my username "bboysloth" on youtube.

My only complaint is that from the time I take the picture (which it always captures at the right time) to the time I can take the next picture takes a good 3-4seconds. Probably due to the fact that with most of the settings the camera is performing multiple functions, and combining information of many photos that it took all at once to combine them into the great photo you see later. So given the functions that the camera is performing depending on settings, the wait time is understandable.

My only other complaints are that the manual is HORRIBLE in teaching you how to really use the camera and its exorbant amount of cool features, which leaves it mostly up to you to figure out how to use each feature. This IS facilitated by a very simple and straight forward menu, but never the less was a slight dissapointment for me upon receiving the camera. Also when you delete a photo, BE CAREFUL, because there is also an option (which I now hate) to delete all photos on the SD card right next to the delete 1 piture option, so if you are in a hurry, be careful not to wipeout all your pictures by accident (which has happened already to me twice).

When you are using the high speed features for low light, fast moving, or anything else, the quality of the shot does reduce to 9M instead of the camera's full capability of 10M but unless you are making a HUGE blow poster of your creation, you will not notice the difference.

Overall a great camera, especially for the many features and video options that you get. Again, don't expect the video to outdue a camcorder, and don't expect that just because it has a CMOS sensor that it will outperform an SLR. But I would say that it is one of the closest things I have found in a point and shoot to getting the features of an SLR (and working at best buy has allowed me to test pretty much every camera out there).

I have had this camera for over three weeks now and would like to share my thoughts on it.

Firstly, the main attraction for me in this Camera was the Slow Motion video mode.

I must say that i am not disappointed on that front. Not only does it allow shooting at 240, 420 and 1000fps, but it also has a 120fps shooting mode at VGA(640 X 480) quality. That is very impressive.

Last i checked, this is the only product at around 250 bucks that will let you do that (and other cheaper Casio models).

The photo quality of the camera is also surprisingly good for the price. There are many preset modes that are a click away, which let you pick the right settings for the scenario. Among these modes are the High Speed Lighting and the High Speed Night Scene. Both of these modes offer bright and clear pictures during the day and night resp, under low lighting, without needing a flash (I hate flash, it makes the photos look fake). The preset Macro mode also takes very nice pictures.

One other big advantage of this camera, is the the High Speed Burst mode that is a button away. On pressing the button, it rapidly takes many images of the subject in action and slows it down for you on the LCD. You can then click whenever you feel the moment is right, to always get the desired picture.

Since, this is getting too wordy, i will list some of the other good things that i noticed about this camera:

1) A multi-motion capture mode that generates really cool images (Google this mode)

2) Very stylish look and a bit of weight adds to the 'Rich' feel of the camera

3) HD videos(720p) look great on a HDTV and otherwise

4) The built-in video editor lets you chop the video the way you want (This is very helpful, as slow motion video capturing leads to some boring stuff if nothing is happening on screen)

5) The audio quality from the mic is very good

6) There is Eye-fi support, if you care

7) A Youtube capture mode and direct Youtube uploading from the Software

8) Ability to set your own Present modes, from photos you like

9) If you lower the resolution to 7MP or 4MP, the optical zoom levels go up(7.9x at 4MP). It may not exactly be optical zoom (I dont hear the lens moving), but it is still much better than digital zoom.

I also have a few quibbles about this camera:

1) The Dedicated video record button is little tough to press with the thumb

2) The battery life is okay

3) The body attracts a lot of fingerprints

4) The LCD quality is not the best

5) The manual is almost pointless as it doesn't talk about the usage of a lot of features

There is also an older version of this camera on Amazon, the FC100, but this one has several advantages over that, mainly the Backlit CMOS sensor (for low-light photography) and the 120fps VGA shooting mode.

Overall, you should definitely get this camera if

A) If you don't want a DSLR, but want a pocket Camera that has good enough quality to expose that little artist within you.

B) If you love watching and shooting slow-motion videos and/or HD(720p) videos.

C) You don't like tinkering with the settings but would like to have preset modes that do exactly what you want.

This is an amazing camera. for stills and slow motion it is beyond compare. For HD video or SD video at 30 frames per second it is useless. Even with a Class 10 Memory device the motion is sped up and jumpy. Worse than that is that you can not zoom while filming NORMAL video without popping/cracking noise going to the audio track.

"Overpriced for the poor still image quality" 2010-05-17

Based on reviews, I got this camera and was eager to try it out. At first I thought there are some hidden controls that I would need to get access to to improve the picture quality. I simply could not believe the water color images I was getting at the lowest IS0 100 setting. I searched in vain for a setting to turn off noise reduction. The camera's shutter lag was so unacceptable (at least 1 seconds from pressings it) that I was totally unable to get any sort of shots where the subject (my son) was moving even a little. Granted, I was not expecting picture qualities even close to my Sony A700 DSLR, but I was certainly expecting better images than my very old Fuji f10 (6 megapixel camera). Flash pictures were even worse. There were so many strange colors and secondary artifacts in all the shots I took, that I was quite taken back. Interestingly, this camera has remarkable low-light performance, and even at ISO 3200, the pictures look only a little more water colored than at base ISO. The video performance was not bad, in that they looked relatively decent, and the stereo microphone is definitely a nice touch. However, even though the zoom functions during video recording, the lack of focusing makes taking sharp videos of moving subjects nearly impossible, especially when they are closing or receding. I got this camera for it's high speed video capabilities, but the quality of still images was so remarkably low that I simply could not justify this camera at $300. I am returning it to Amazon.

Love everything about the 10x optical zoom, HD video and new BEST SHOT options. Unortunately, this model lost a few BEST SHOT options I liked in previous models. Also, I'm missing more adjustable video shooting quality. Even standard def creates pretty big files. I would like to have a choice to record a lower quality vids as well. For a point-n-shoot class camera, this one is VERY impressive, though. Definitely worth your money. :-)

I am NOT able to transfer images/videos to my Sony VAIO laptop (Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600). The USB connection does not work. I also noticed that connecting to computer activated snapshot (flashed) and captured image. Received replacement camera from Amazon.

"FH 100 HS" 2010-04-08

Works well in normal lighting conditions.

However, in low light the camera struggles with significant amount of artifacts & smearing at ISO800 and above. Its noticeable at 400, but not too ugly.

If you're new to photography the BS (that's Best Shot) has over 20 choices for evening shots, portrait, eliminate shutter lag, to take the guess work out of photography.

Using Aperture mode there only 2 settings, wide open and closed, which is a bit of a bummer.

The HS video is excellent, the best I've seen in any camera of its size. The only downside is once you start recording the video, there is no zoom function. You need to stop the video, zoom, focus and then press the record button.

Excellent wide angle at 24mm equivalent, although there is significant distortion around the edges of the frame.

Very happy with this camera for quick snaps, however, if you're looking for better image quality in low light settings (but without the HS video, look at the Canon Powershot S90 (for improved portablility), or the Canon G11 (if you like making adjustments to camera settings easily/on the fly, in a bigger package)

We bought this to take on a trip. Received it about a week before the trip, and started playing with it. It has some nice features, and I like the zoom and image stabilization. The screen is great, and pictures for the most part are wonderful. Battery life does seem shorter than advertised. We only got around 200 pictures out of it per battery charge so far, but my wife does like to review the pictures repeatedly, so if she wasn't doing that maybe it would last longer, who knows. The other thing my wife doesn't like is that it is sometimes a little slow to take a picture and there's no mode for taking multiple pictures in succession. She's used to her DSLR's so we can't ding this camera for that. All in all we're happy with our purchase of the Casio Exilim EX-Z2000

"Poor picture quality" 2008-11-24

I very much wanted to like this camera. It's so small and portable and Consumer Reports ranked it very high. Unfortunately, the picture quality is poor. Low light pictures are very grainy and even in bright sunlight, pictures are dull and washed out. I'm not a novice with cameras and I've tried manually adjusting the settings but get the same mediocre results. It's small and has great battery life, so very casual users will probably be fine with the mediocre pictures. But if you want to capture quality photos and stay digital, get a Nikon or Canon DSLR. I use a Nikon D40 and the images are in a different league.

4 months ago I purchased a new Casio EX-Z1080 from Amazon.com. Everything was great with it until around Halloween time when I started having problems. Keep in mind I babyed this camera, never dropped or bannged it once, purchased a special, padded hard case for it and it was in like NEW condition with not a scratch on it.

One day I was taking a picture and then switching mode to view and the screen went black and the camera shut off, lens still out. After that the power button was non responsive. I took the battery out and put it back in and at that time, the lens retracted and it came back on.

Now about 2 weeks ago the same exact problem happened, however no matter what I did, the camera would not respond. The lens was out but nothing would happen.

I called Casio customer support and they gave me instructions on sending the camera in for repair under warrenty. I paid out of pocket to have the camera sent to their repair facility. 4 days later I get an e-mail saying it would cost me $140 to repair the camera.

Yep, for a 4 month old camera. I called and the customer service lady told me the technician said there was evidence of the camera being misued or dropped. Which is complete baloney. I never dropped the camera once.

Then she said her supervisor would call me in 24-48 hours to discuss the issue with me and its 4 days later and I never received a call.

Now, I have to pay another $8 for them to send it back to me broken.

I will never ever buy a Casio again and I can't wait to tell everyone I know what a crummy company Casio is.

This little camera is amazing. It is the 4th small digital that I have tried out in 4 months. I was interested in a fast shutter speed for taking photos of small grandchildren who move constantly. I would rate it highly especially for a camera of this size. The images have come out very clear.... even better than I had expected. The most exciting feature of the camera is that is very easy to use but when there is a question in using it , the 800 telephone number that is available to call, has smart tech supporters that are extremely knowledgable and helpful. I would recommend this camera to all.

While shiny and slim, boasting a 10.1 MP range and of course the Casio label...this camera falls short in several areas.

The anti-shake does plainly NOT work as it is supposed to. Insanely blurry and shaky pictures come from a steady hand with the MAXIMUM anti-shake setting turned on. Even in proper lighting conditions this feature simply falls short....very, very short.

10.1 MP? Yes...in studio quality lighting. In anything else, you're looking at the rainbow speckled, grainy mess that typically come from cameras with a much lower price tag.

And what on earth was casio thinking making a camera that has to have the battery REMOVED and charged in a wall-outlet charger? Not only is this feature annoying and inconvenient, but the battery life of the included lithium ion battery is simply dissapointing.

In conclusion, this camera is slow to respond, has inconvenient accessory requirements, plus a total lack of user friendliness. I'm no camera dummy and even I have been having my share of troubles with this one. So...while well designed, sleek, and useful at times, for the price tag, this camera is simply--not worth it.

"Nice camera, but weak battery door is a design flaw" 2006-06-23

I've had this camera for about a year and really like its performance. It's great on batteries (2-AA) and the features are extensive. Unfortunately, it suffers from Weak Battery Door Design syndrome, depending on a small plastic catch to retain both the batteries and the media card. My camera finally bit the dust on a trip to Sweden, when it fell from a car seat about two feet to the ground. The battery door catch broke and now it can't be used unless you hold the door closed with a clamp or really strong tape. If they had only designed the door as well as the rest of the camera-- in metal --I'm sure it would still be working fine.

This is a common flaw with many electronic products. How many dozens of cameras, radios, CD players, etc. have we all seen with broken battery doors over the years? Unfortunately with this item, it's basically unusable if it breaks and impossible to repair.

This camera is a very nice product. The size is small, only a bit thicker than a Canon S410/S500. And though it is not as cute as the more popular and thinner Casio models, the price is a lot less and it uses stardard AA rechargeable batteries, which can be a big plus in certain situations.

However, unlike the previous version (QVR51), Casio is NOT including the rechargeable batteries and charger with the QVR52, at least not in the box I received from Amazon.

We hesitated when we were going to get this as we had been Kodak lovers. It was during a Black Friday sale @ Target.

Mine is about 5yrs old now. I have dropped it on cement, rocks, tile, carpet, stepped on it, thrown it in my purse, spilled 7up on it and basically abused the thing.

In 5 years....the only issue was recently when my Siberian Husky bit it...made a black mark on the LCD, but the pictures are fine and the screen is readable. The camera still works like a charm.

VERY reliable brand. VERY durable. It's slim, fits in my back pocket which I LOVE.

In the 5 years I have had mine...my husband has had a Kodak that died, my mother in law had 3 kodaks that died, my daughter had a Kodak that has on going battery issues, and my sister's kids destroyed 4 Kodaks. Mine has outlasted them all and I have been the most brutal on it.

I bought this camera on amazon back in 2007 and it still works like new. It's really slim and I've taken it all over the world with me and it fits in all my small purses. It's pretty easy to use and the picture quality is really good.The only problem is the battery. My first one died after a few months and I had to send it back to casio. They replaced it or fixed it pretty quickly. The battery recently died again, but luckily the replacements are really cheap.

The Casio Exilim EX-Z60BK 6MP Digital Camera is an excellent buy for the amount of money you can buy it for now. On Amazon.com, I have seen this model selling for $70. If you're looking for a camera to bring on investigations that will give you a good amount of features, without anything excessive, this is the perfect camera. There are 30 picture settings from twilight and portrait, to candle light. You can also record video and audio with this camera.

The pictures I have taken with this camera are exceptional for a 6MP camera. The photos I took at an investigation in Hilldale Cemetery of May, 2009, were taken with this camera. For about 50-75 feet in front of you at night outside, the objects in that radius will show up clearly in the picture taken. Outside of the radius, objects will begin to appear grey, and faded.

The videos shot with the camera aren't the most clear, but they are decent quality for the price. The audio recording is a nice feature, and provides decent quality. After the pictures and videos have been taken, the editing features are nice. You can crop, rotate, trim, resize, and correct the color of photos. For videos, you can edit the length, and cut pieces out.

Purchased the unit July 2007 to update my faithful only 5 MP Rollie.Took some christmas snaps Dec 2009 worked ok tried to use it in Feb 2010 would not switch on.Sent unit to Casio who then informed me it needed a major new component at a considerable cost $117 with a three month warranty.I was very shocked,I have only used the camera for the odd weekend Etc so it has had very little use,I have used my camera in my cell phone more often,no problems, but that is a Samsung,needless to say it will not be repaired,no use throwing more money away.Casio did offer me an upgrade for loyalty again the PLASTIC Z2 at a cost higher than the internet shops UPDATE Recontacted Casio this time spoke direct to the Service Manager on how disapointed I was with the product and his offer,he reduced the repair cost down to $75 also informed me that that camera had a two year warranty,but I informed him It states in all CASIO paperwork ONE year,he still insisted it would have been repaired FREE OF CHARGE in the two year period.I have found this before with a JVC W/S CRT television,tube went.Which was three months over the 12 months Warranty period,the retailer refused to even help me,I wrote to their service department who informed me that there was a THREE Year warranty in force ( still stated one year on the invoice )2 years parts and labour,third year parts only.JVC collected and had the unit repaired by their nearest depot free of any charges and returned,sometimes it pays to complain DIRECT

I bought this in Feb of 2008. I'm a very casual picture take and have probably taken less than 1,000 pictures total during the life of the camera. I am very careful with this camera (as with all electronics) and it is majorly babied. It has never been dropped, exposed to water, nothing. I have an excellent case with full padding for it.

It takes great pictures outside. Inside is a different matter--they often turn out blurry and fuzzy no matter what you do. They tend to over or under exposure which is super frustrating. The setting for auto flash is awful--over exposure all the time. As for the features I am not that familiar as I use this mostly to take pics of the kids and pets. I don't change settings. I do like the Best Shot feature and otherwise the camera is easy to use. I got mine in gold and I love the color and look of the camera.

The problem: About a month ago it stopped recognizing the SD Memory card. I tried all sorts of cards--some it recognizes and I take a pic or two and then when I load to my laptop my laptop can't find the formatting. It's random. These are basic SD cards--nothing fancy. SanDisk and other decent brands (in other words not cheap crappy ones). I did buy an extended warranty and I'm hopeful they will fix it. But I'm very unhappy with the fact that this happened. Had i over used it or abused it I'd probably just chalk it up to that and move on. But to baby a product so much--I expect to get more than 2 years out of a camera. The camera this replaced was an old Kodak that was over 10 years old and still worked fine (but it was not digital). Lame. Severely lame.

You know I decided I could live with the blurry pic's (maybe due to the time lag between when you press and when it actually takes the pic which is much longer than other cameras) inside so I mostly use it outside but now I can't even take any pic's as the internal memory holds 2 photo's. Hello. 2? So I really need that SD card.

Due to this I cannot recommend this camera.

I loved this camera so much. It was my first camera and I really loved it. I was kind of hesitant being Casio but when I got it, I couldn;t believe that it was soooo good. My mom got a Canon at the same time, and they were equal in everything, and hers cost 50$ more.

I was really sad when it was stolen from my hotel room.

I would definitely recommend Casio cameras, very easy to use, great photo quality in every situation, light camera, the controls are really good, and also very fast indeed.

My camera went bad from a VERY COMMONLY reported manufacturing defect "camera stabilizer is not available" error message in the model I had. Since this is a common defect from the manufacture, they should have fixed my camera at their expense, but they refused to fix it without me having to pay $100 something for their manufacturing defect plus shipping charges! Don't buy Casio products! They don't stand behind the quality of their products.

I bought this EX 40 Camera a few years ago and after taking about 1/2 million photos I dropped it in the ocean. I bought 5 cameras since then and now have a pile of what I call junk cameras. I saw this on Amazon and more then happy to buy it and start getting some great sunset photos again. I live on the beach on the Sea of Cortez in Mexico and am almost board with all the awesome sunset photos I can take here. "Incredible camera for the price" 2008-04-26

With 20 different "scene" shots this camera makes my pictures look semi-professional. The macro mode is incredible for close-ups and has vibrant detail in the resulting pictures. There's also a Sepia and Black and White mode for retro looking pictures apeasing the aspiring artist in us all. Along with the delay/firework setting, night shots of fireworks or lightning look stunning. I really can't sing the praises of this camera enough. I've owned it for 2 years and plan to replace it only with another Exilim. Don't hesitate buying one. Oh, and I can get over 400 shots WITH THE FLASH ON before worrying about recharging.

About 18 months ago, purchased the Z40 for my teenage daughter.

It's a great little camera with a long battery life. Last month the lens jammed in the open position. Called Casio and would cost $200 to repair. Did a little research and found Casio has a problem with lenses jamming. Turns out the camera will accidently turn on in your pocket or purse and the lens cannot fully extend. These cheap plastic rings break and the camera is useless. I have just begun to fight and have even found a lawyer who is gathering info for a possible class action suit.

If you are going to buy this camera, get the optional insurance. You will get the camera repaired for free but it could takes months. Good luck!

"Zoom Broke 3x" 2006-05-05

The pictures were very high quality, when the camera was working. My only complaint there was that even zoomed in, the objects of most pictures at a distance looked ant like. The camera's zoom mechanism broke 3x. The first time I had fixed at my cost. I was not sure that I had not caused the damage. One day after getting it back, the problem resurfaced and the repair people fixed it again. This was the second long repair time. About 2 months later I was at a music festival, went to turn it on and guess what? Yep, the zoom mechanism was broken again. I am not going to bother fixing it. After I get the pictures off it (the only way now is directly from the SD card), this camera is going to that great camera in the sky.

I was a bit skeptical of the Casio brand but I liked all the features of this camera and read a positive up review in a photography magazine so I took the leap. I haven't regreted it a bit. This is a great "casual" camera with easy settings for picking just the shot you need.

Mine has taken a lot of abuse and has never failed to perform. I highly recommend the leather belt pouch for protection during carry. The only problem I have is deciding whether to upgrade to the 6 or 7 megapixel Exilim!

"Tiny Casio 2M Pixel Camera" 2010-02-10

I'm writing this review about 5 years after purchasing the camera. The camera still works and I have taken several thousand photos. It's "credit card" size and about 3/8 inch thick. Very tiny. There's a digital zoom but no optical zoom. (That's why it's so small!) I have a vacation photo hanging on my wall that is 11 x 14. So even at 2 megapixels it takes good photos.

When i bought this camera, i was really mostly interested in finding a cool, little camera that would be sure to impress others with it's sleekness and not so much worried about it's features. After using it a little tho, i was pleasantly surprised to find that it's a great camera with no bad qualities as far i can tell so far. THe battery life it excellent, the LCD screen is as good as i could have hoped for and the quality of the pictures is far beyond any expectation of any need i could ever have for this camera. The ease of use is phemonminal also. Within an hour i had figured out how to use the features and had hte pictures on the computer. Speaking of taht, the included software was also easy to use and very complete. This said, if you're looking for a great, little digital camera that won't break the bank, you've found it.

Better than the EX-S2, the S20 adds a lens cover - really needed for a 'pocket' camera. Can take it anywhere without looking like a tourist. Flash is very bright. Pictures at max res 1600 x 1200 fine mode are pretty good, certainly good enough for a website or 3x5 prints. And since you are limited by the fixed lens anyways, 3 or 4 MP seems like a waste for the money. Added a 256 MB card and it holds 214 pix at max res. Only holds 6 pix without so definately get a card.
