Many years ago, as a young fresh-faced medical student, I started a blog to share my life and style. That singular action changed the course of my life in many ways and has been the bedrock and foundation for a lot of the things I have achieved thus far.

I gave that blog my all and it rewarded me. Oh, how it rewarded me. I was consistent, I was diligent, I wrote down the good, the bad, and the in-between, and it expanded my life.

One fine afternoon, as I did my aimless scrolling on Instagram, I happened on a post by one of my followers living her best life in Auberge de Grand Popo, a hotel in Grand Popo, Benin Republic. I immediately followed the thread of information I could gather from the post, hopping online to find any Auberge de GrandPopo review, and concluded that it had to be me living my best life there in the next two weeks too.

Since the pandemic hit, I’ve frequented more co-working spaces in lagos than I ever have. But I’m not complaining. There’s just something about being in a workspace, drinking a smoothie, with my laptop, or a book in front of me that makes me feel like I have my life together. Because being your true authentic self is always going to feel like you’re swimming upstream.

Sometime in January, I was in the thick of a depressive episode, one of my closest relationship at that time seemed to be nearing its end and I was in search of something to tether me back on earth, so I got an email pal (pen pal, but via email).

My thought process was that I might find some solace from the act of baring my soul, writing my heart out, or simply stating that I couldn’t find it in me to write my heart out because I couldn’t will myself to get anything done.

The Journey From Lagos to Ibadan By Train.

On a Saturday morning, while the rest of my household still slept, I quietly slid into a cab with my travel backpack and mumbled some greeting to the driver. He responded cheerfully, before adding “It says you’re going to The Mobolaji Johnson train station”?. That’s correct, I replied. The Lagos to Ibadan train station, just at the Alagomeji bus stop in yaba”.

I had carefully packed my clothes just hours earlier, ticking off things on a list I titled “Ibadan weekend trip”.

Today I turned twenty-seven. I do not feel different or changed in any way. I also do not quite have the words to say, but I felt the need to put something up here. Earlier today, I realized that I stopped documenting my birthdays here – the obligatory birthday post, as I like to call it – on my twenty fourth birthday. I’m not sure how this happened, my memory fails me these days, but I felt sad when I found out.
