Due to the devastation that has occurred in Oklahoma, we are devoting this week’s Tuezday Trauma blog to all those affected.

The 2 mile wide tornado roared through the town of Moore, Monday afternoon, flattening entire neighborhoods, trapping victims beneath rubble, and tossing vehicles about, as if they were toys, leaving a path of devastating destruction.  For more information about the tornado, you can read the following article from Huffington Post.

In Hockey:

Mark Fraser

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Fraser suffered a broken bone in his forehead after being hit with a puck in a playoff game against the Boston Bruins.  He had surgery to repair the fracture in his “cranial area.”  Fraser is one of the players who chooses not to wear a visor.

In Basketball:

Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry of the Oakland Warriors has been fighting through ankle pain.  Curry sprained his ankle near the end of the regular season and then aggravated it in their first round series against the Denver Nuggets, yet Curry is committed to helping the Warriors reach the Western Conference Finals.

Boston Celtics Kevin Garnett underwent an operation to remove bone spurs in his ankle.  It has not been released if the 18 year veteran will continue his basketball career after this surgery.

In Football:

Rob Gronkowski

Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots tight-end, is going to need a 4th surgery to replace the plate that secures the broken bone in his forearm.  This surgery has been expected, but the question is whether it will reveal if he has infected tissue in his forearm.  Everyone is hoping this 4th surgery is his last.  He should still be on track to play week one.

Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Greg Scruggs is most likely out for the year after having reconstructive arthoscopic surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee.

Russell Westbrook

Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook is out for the rest of the playoffs due to a torn meniscus in his right knee, which occurred in their Game 2 win over the Houston Rockets.  His injury will require surgery, but luckily he will be able to recover during the off-season.

In Baseball:

Derek Jeter

New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter fractured his left ankle for the second time in six months.  Because this latest setback is a new fracture to the same ankle, same bone, some concerns have been raised regarding the stability in that joint. Although there is no timetable for his return, it has been estimated to be after the All-Star break in mid-July, which will be the longest absence of his career.  Jeter wears a walking boot, reluctantly, but says he will follow the rules!  Feel Better, Heal Better, Derek!

Justin Maxwell

Houston Astros outfielder Justin Maxwell is expected to sit the bench for at least a month because of a broken bone in his left hand, his fifth metacarpal to be exact, after being hit by a pitch.  He will not need surgery and is currently wearing a splint.

Mike Kostka

Toronto Maple Leafs defender Mike Kostka is currently out with a broken right index finger.
