<itunes:subtitle />
<itunes:summary>This passage marks the closing of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. In it he offers his final challenge, but in the form of an analogy. Those who build their lives on Jesus' teaching are wise because his teaching is dependable. But it is truly foolish to ignore his teaching. In this we see a real paradox as Jesus' teaching is often what seems foolish to us. </itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Today's message finishes up our series "A Kingdom Free from Judgment." In this verse, Jesus closes out not only his section on judgment but the main body of the Sermon on the Mount. It is a summary of Jesus' teaching on fulfilling the Law and the Prophets.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:album>A Kingdom Free from Judgment</itunes:album>
<itunes:subtitle />
<itunes:summary>This Sunday we took a break from Matthew to concentrate on our church. We focused on what the church is supposed to be and why we do what we do. Not recorded is a piece by our Shepherds, Ben Abernathy and Omer Umberger, on the immediate financial challenges before our church. The message closed with a challenge for us to continue working on being more Christ-like and to reaffirm our commitment to BEING this radical kingdom community. </itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>In this second part of our series on judgment, we look at Jesus' teaching on taking the log out of our own eye. This teaching is hyperbolic and intended to make the point with humor. That point is that judgment is hypocritical because the judge emphasizes another's sins only to draw attention from his own. But in the Kingdom, we reject judgment because we enter the kingdom by acknowledging our OWN sins. </itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle />
<itunes:summary>With this message we start our new series on judgment, "A Kingdom Free from Judgment." We read in Matthew 7:1-2 Jesus' command that we must not judge. Contemporary Christians often find it distasteful, however, to talk about this teaching. In this message we explore that judgment is really the desire to be the source of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Gary Poisson joins us to share more of his family's experience with judgment. (We had some technical issues, so the first 5 minutes of the message are missing.)</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>The Beatitudes are a list of some RADICAL kingdom values that have challenged us on several different levels. Because they have been so challenging, many people at our church have been asking some really good questions about how they apply to our lives today--especially when it comes to the concept of non-violence. In this special Q and A Sunday, Jason attempted to answer three of them in the light of this teaching of Jesus. Those questions are: "How do we deal with a Hitler?" "What about violence in the Old Testament?" and "What is the role of Christianity in government?" </itunes:summary>

Many have viewed this as a statement that in order to go to heaven and see God one has to maintain some legalistic form of purity. Rather, we should see it as another kingdom statement. The concept of "pure in heart" must be contrasted with the outer purity of the Pharisees. And the promise of "seeing God" is really much simpler--we see God in Jesus Christ. Only those who are sincere in their understanding of their own need for God will see God there...the legalism of the Pharisees blinded them to him. </itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>In vs. 7 of the beatitudes, Jesus states a blessing for the "merciful." We see, first, a shift from circumstances (poorness, meekness, etc.) to traits (merciful, peacemaking, etc.). From there we understand "mercy" to be about kindness to others. This is especially reflective of Jesus' teaching about mercy and grace to those outside of our own experience. The kingdom of Heaven values mercy and kindness. It demonstrates it to all people, from victim to criminal. This involves a decision not to judge, to show kindness to those who come against us...there is so much here! </itunes:summary>

The purpose of his warning was to convince them to turn from their kingdom (repentance) and identify themselves with the coming kingdom. Inherent in this passage is the truth that those who are heavily invested in the kingdom of the world are going to find the kingdom message of Jesus to be offensive and even revolting. In fact, when we do Christianity well, those who are caught up in religion will most likely find our faith offensive. </itunes:summary>

In this way, we see that Jesus actually has the ability to take our own lives and insert his own meaning into our experiences. </itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>In this follow up message to the series opener, Jason defines some practical application to the points made last week. Because Jesus identifies and associates with "undesirable" people, for Christians there are NO undesirable people. </itunes:summary>

<title>An Unlikely King   Matthew 1:1-17   Jason Rodenbeck</title>

<itunes:summary>As Castle Christian Church gears up for a mega-sermon series through the book of Matthew, the theme of Kingdom life emerges. As the series continues--many mini-series will be developed. In this gospel, Jesus is presented as a King establishing a new and better kingdom. As the series is introduced, Jason details that the messages will not attempt to illustrate the coherence of the gospels or defend their historicity in modern terms. Modern liberal criticism is ignored in this case. The book of Matthew must be understood as Matthew's take on the story of Jesus' life and ministry. In this particular passage, the genealogy of Matthew, Jason draws two main ideas: 1) Jesus is a king with a colorful and different heritage, 2) Jesus is the centerpiece of history. </itunes:summary>
