Have you registered yet for your June 2011 exams? If not, then what are you waiting for? The quickest and simplest way to register for your June exams is to register online at myACCA

Registering for your exams online means:

you get immediate confirmation of receipt and processing of your exam entry so you don't need to worry if you've been entered for the exams
you get immediate validation of exam entry information so any errors or misunderstandings can be sorted as soon as possible
you can go back and change the exam centre you've selected
you can change your law/tax variant and standards or stream
should you change your mind about which exams you feel ready to take then you can add or remove exam selections you may have previously made.

Please note that you can make as many changes as you wish online to your exam selection at no extra cost up until the standard exam entry closing date of 15 April 2011. So what are you waiting for? Register for your June 2011 exams now by visiting myACCA

If you're still not convinced registering online is the way to go and complete the paper-based exam entry form this must be received at ACCA's exams department in the UK by 15 April 2011. We answer your frequently asked questions about ACCA's new Approved Learning Partner – content programme

Scholarships for talented students
The Simpson Scholarship exists to reward talented ACCA students who have already proven themselves to be of sufficient merit and distinction in ACCA exams.

Each year, the Simpson Scholarship will fund the ACCA exam and registration fees of five students for a period of five years or until they become members – whichever happens first.

In order to be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the qualification criteria and submit a 1,000 word essay. The closing date for 2011 applications is Saturday 30 April.

Record numbers sit ACCA exams
Results from ACCA's December 2010 exams session reveal that a record 205,000 individuals sat papers, with more than 6,000 taking a major step towards full membership.

Candidates around the world took more than 397,000 papers, with 6,420 students successfully completing their final ACCA exams and a further 2,926 students completing the Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) exams.

Foundations in Accountancy for current CAT students

In January 2011, ACCA launched Foundations in Accountancy - its new suite of entry-level qualifications, which includes a revised CAT Qualification. The first exams will be held in December 2011. As a current CAT student, you will be transferred over to either Foundations in Accountancy or the ACCA Qualification in August 2011. This will be determined by your exam status after the June 2011 exam results have been issued and also whether you stated you wanted to be transferred to the ACCA Qualification when you registered as a CAT student. You will soon be sent your exam entry form for the June 2011 exam session along with any results from the December 2010 exam session. With this information you will be sent provisional conversion details stating which exams you will be awarded either converted exemptions or converted passes and which exams you may still have to complete. Please be reassured that you will not be disadvantaged by the changes because any exams you have passed/or received exemption for will be awarded on a paper for paper basis.

Transitional arrangements for 2011
For any students newly registered on Foundations in Accountancy from January 2011, transitional arrangements have been put in place to allow them to take some exams as computer-based exams between February-November 2011 and ahead of the first scheduled Foundations in Accountancy exams in December 2011.

To ensure we are fair to all students, these transitional arrangements will also apply to you as an existing CAT student and allows you even greater flexibility to take current CBE exams up until November 2011 and more time to complete exams on the current CAT Qualification. New practical experience requirements as part of Foundations in Accountancy
For any students wishing to complete the revised CAT Qualification, there is still a requirement to complete a period of relevant training, referred to as Foundation Practical Experience Requirement (FPER). Please note this only has to be completed by students who wish to achieve CAT status and is not compulsory to complete for students who are using the CAT Qualification only as a progression route to the ACCA Qualification.

FPER as part of the revised CAT Qualification has been closely aligned to the practical experience requirements (PER) for the ACCA Qualification which is good news for CAT students. It means the four essential competences which have to be achieved as part of FPER can be used to claim exemption from four of the nine Essentials performance objectives required to achieve PER on the ACCA Qualification. Also, the one year of experience achieved for CAT status can count towards the three years of practical experience required for the ACCA Qualification. It means holders of the CAT Qualification will be part way to completing the practical experience requirement for the ACCA Qualification and familiar with the process for recording experience required for ACCA membership.

So what should you do if you have already gained some practical experience under the current CAT Qualification?

If you are close to completing your practical experience using the Technician Training Record (TTR), it is advisable to continue using this to record your experience so you can apply for CAT status at the earliest opportunity.

If you haven't yet started recording your practical experience or have only recorded a small amount of experience, you may wish to start completing the new FPER now. Please note you will need to transfer any experience recorded in your TTR to the FPER. We cannot accept experience recorded in a combination of the two formats - so you need to decide to use either the TTR or FPER, but not both.
