Welcome to my cat problems blog. Here you will learn about cat problems and solutions to cat behavior problems.

Is your pet cat always chewing on something that she's not supposed to and turning your daybed into confetti?
Or your best sheets into a litter box?

Does your cat dart across the room for no reason, or be full of energy just as you're about to go to bed?

Perhaps ruining mealtimes or always up to trouble and very hyper than normal?

Cat behavior generally refers to the behaviors and habits of domestic cats, including body language and communication. Free-ranging cats are active both day and night, although they tend to be slightly more active at night. The timing of cats' activity is quite flexible and varied, which means that house cats may be more active in the morning and evening, as a response to greater human activity at these times.Since cats rely strongly on body language to communicate, it is important to understand what each body language means:

lifting or constant shaking of a paw or paws- disgust

the swishing or sweeping of the tail in a wide swath, in mid-air or against a person- aggression

kneading with the paws on a person or, for example, a favorite blanket or sleeping spot- contentment

pressing of the face or top of the head against a person's body (head rubbing), leaving a scent to mark the cat's territory; or rubbing in quick succession; blinking slowly- affection

fall downs on its side upon being approached, indicating it is not seeking attention and is unwilling to put up a fight- submission

The position of the ears communicates the degree of desire to engage with the situation around them: Ears up and moved slightly forward- interest; ears moved backward- distaste and desire to not engage with the situation; moving ears back- disapproval; crouching and turning their back- disinterest/unhappiness.

rubbing their bodies against the human's legs with back arched and tail raised- desire for attention

Vocal Calls

Purring- Often a sign of contentment. Some cats purr when they are in extreme pain, or in labor, simply to try to calm themselves down. Purring therefore can be a sign of pleasure or pain; usually it is the former.

Greeting- A particular sort of vocalization, such as a low meow or chirp, possibly with simultaneous purring.

Distress- Mewing is a plea for help or attention often made by kittens. There are two basic types of this call, one more loud and frantic, the other more high-pitched. In older cats it is more of a panicky repeated meow.

Attention- Often simple meows and mews in both older cats and young kittens. A commanding meow is a command for attention, food, or to be let out.

Protest- Whining meows

Frustration- A strong sigh or exhaled snort

Happy- A meow that starts low then goes up and comes back down.

Watching/Happiness- Cats will often "chatter" or "chirrup" on seeing something of interest out of the window. This is sometimes attributed to mimicking birdsong to attract prey or draw others' attention to it, but often birds are not present.

Cat behavior problems are almost certainly the most frequent reason cats get tossed on the street. But theirs no need for leaving a cat homeless. There are simple solutions to common cat problems.

Litter box problems- Identify the reason why your cat is not using the litter box and then identify how to improve that reason.

Feline aggression and biting- If your cat bites/nips excessively, there are ways to train him to stop this behavior. This involves a combination of play therapy sessions.

Plant Chewing- There are a few simple ways you can discourage plant chewing—for instance, spraying plants with bitter apple spray or citrus spray (available at most pet supply stores), baiting leaves with traces of Tabasco® sauce or popping a balloon near your cat while she's chewing. One of the most effective methods is to provide kitty with a garden of her own to chew on with nontoxic plants—many of these “ready-to-grow” gardens are available at pet supply stores.

Scratching- Place the tape on surfaces you do not want kitty to scratch; place scratching posts nearby as an attractive alternative.

Hyperactivity- To minimize hyperactivity, one basic rule is to set up at least two 10-15 minute “play sessions” every day with your cat, in which, for instance, you let him chase a fishing-pole-type toy around. Another idea is to provide a feline companion for your kitty; this takes much of the burden for playtime off you.

Other must-know-facts about cats

Cats bury their feces to hide their trail from their predator.

Cats can change their mood depending on your mood.

Cats spend 30% of their time awake grooming.

Hang a lemon or orange scented air freshener on the bark of your Christmas tree if your cat loves climbing. They don't like the scent and will leave your tree alone.

Watch your tone when speaking to cats as they speak to those who speaks to them.

Cat Training

For effective cat training, you must understand the reasons behind every cat behavior. You can change these behaviors—and for most, it's relatively simple to do so.

Armed with the knowledge contained in the e-books below, you will be able to ensure that both you and your kitty can live harmoniously together.
