Travel Inspiration: American Landscapes

After creating my debut collection, my husband and I travelled the U.S. in a vintage airstream for just under a year. While selling the first line to boutiques, I worked on creating my second collection. Here are some of the landscapes that helped inspire that effort.

You may still be thinking about winter 2012, or perhaps even looking to Spring and Summer of this year. But those trends you’ll be seeing a year from now have already been established. Didn’t you see The Devil Wears Prada? (“…You think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you’re wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room”). Oh snap, Miranda Priestly!

Here is the first of four trends created by CIFF (Copenhagen International Fashion Fair) for their February 2012 event: New Romantics.

Did you know that Maya Lin designed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC? Not only did we not know this, but we were also surprised and ashamed that we didn’t know that the great monument was designed by a woman. Well now we all know!

The new Catherine’s Finds section of the store highlights pieces we’ve gleaned from here and there and named after strong, intelligent, or influential woman from history and literature. Here’s a look at Maya Lin and her namesake earrings.

Maya Lin is also the niece of Lin Huiyin, who’s credited as being the first female architect in China. Pretty impressive family, I’d say!

Ladies, we must give them credit. Men can definitely step it up when they want to, and it’s such a treat for us to see a sharp-dressed man. Suspenders, bowties, fedoras, and aviators are just irresistible on a man, and I love these classic little details.
