Cat bites can be confusing, painful, and sometimes surprising — especially when they come from a cat you adore. One minute they’re purring in your lap, and the next they’re nibbling your hand like it’s part of their lunch. My Lily bit me the other day and I was shocked, she is generally very gentle.

Understanding why cats bite is the first step toward stopping the behavior. Cats don’t bite out of spite; they bite because they’re communicating something. So I realized it was time to find out hat was going on with Lily.

Many cats bite due to overstimulation. Petting aggression is extremely common, especially in sensitive or short-haired cats. A cat who enjoys affection at first may suddenly feel overwhelmed, and biting becomes their way of saying, “That’s enough.”

Before the bite, you’ll often notice subtle signs like tail flicking, ears angling back, skin twitching, or the cat freezing briefly. Learning your cat’s limits and stopping petting before irritation builds up is the fastest way to prevent these bites.

Another major cause of biting is play aggression. Indoor cats often have pent-up energy, especially young cats and kittens. When they don’t have enough stimulation, they redirect that energy into stalking, pouncing, and biting hands, ankles, or anything that moves.

These bites usually happen during play or when you’re walking around the house. They’re not malicious — just the result of an under-stimulated hunter.

keeping the neighbours cat entertained with a game of peekaboo! pic.twitter.com/U6mW1y6mIZ

— Kitty Cat Empire (@KittyCatEmpire) September 11, 2025

Some cats bite because they are communicating discomfort or pain. If your cat bites when touched in a specific area — like the lower back, hips, or belly — they may be telling you something hurts.

Arthritis, dental issues, and skin conditions can all make certain touches unpleasant. Pain-related biting often happens suddenly and without warning. A veterinary exam can help rule out physical causes.

Cats also bite when they feel fear or anxiety. A stressed cat may lash out defensively if they feel trapped or unsure. Household changes such as new pets, new furniture, loud noises, or unfamiliar visitors can heighten anxiety.

These bites tend to be harder and quicker, occurring when a cat feels they must protect themselves.

In my case we narrowed it down to Lily being bored. Someone recommended I purchase this, Potaroma Cat Toys 3in1 Automatic Interactive Kitten Toy, Fluttering Butterfly, Moving Feather, Track Balls and her biting has stopped.

How To Stop Your Cat From Biting

The most important step is understanding the reason behind the behavior. Once you know why your cat bites, you can put the right solution in place.

For overstimulation, keep petting sessions short and watch for body language changes. Give treats during calm moments to reinforce positive associations. If your cat loves attention but gets overwhelmed easily, try petting with one hand while keeping interactions predictable.

For play aggression, increase the amount of daily playtime. Use wand toys, feather teasers, or interactive toys that encourage your cat to chase and pounce without using your hands as targets. Aim for two to three short play sessions a day — even ten minutes goes a long way. Cats who burn energy are far less likely to bite.

For stress-related biting, identify triggers. Provide safe spaces, vertical shelves, cozy hiding spots, and quiet areas where your cat can decompress.

Calming diffusers and pheromone sprays can reduce anxiety, and gradually introducing changes helps maintain security.

For pain-related biting, veterinary care is essential. Treating the underlying condition almost always resolves the biting behavior.

What NOT To Do

Never yell, hit, or punish your cat. This only increases fear and aggression. Cats do not understand punishment — they understand safety, trust, and boundaries.

Biting is a cat’s way of expressing discomfort, fear, excitement, or overstimulation. When you learn the signals and respond appropriately, biting naturally decreases. Every cat can be taught gentler behavior with patience, understanding, and a bit of environmental adjustment.

A sneezing cat can be adorable, but when it becomes frequent or forceful, it’s natural to worry. Cats sneeze for many of the same reasons we do: irritants, infections, allergies, or something stuck in the nose. While one or two sneezes are usually harmless, persistent sneezing can be a sign that something deeper is going on.

One of the most common causes is a feline upper respiratory infection, often caused by viruses like herpesvirus or calicivirus. These infections spread easily in shelters or multi-cat homes and tend to resurface during times of stress.

Cats with viral infections usually sneeze frequently and may have watery eyes, nasal discharge, or a slight decrease in appetite. If ignored, these infections can lead to secondary bacterial issues, making symptoms worse.

Environmental irritants are another frequent trigger. Dust, perfume, cleaning sprays, scented candles, cigarette smoke, and even dusty cat litter can irritate a cat’s nose. Some cats are much more sensitive than others, and a simple switch to unscented litter or more frequent dusting can reduce sneezing dramatically.

Allergies can also be the culprit. Cats can develop allergies to pollen, mold, dust mites, and certain foods. While dogs often show allergies through skin issues, cats may express them through sneezing, watery eyes, or itchiness. If your cat sneezes more during particular seasons — especially spring or fall — environmental allergies may be to blame.

Occasionally, sneezing is caused by something physically stuck in the nasal cavity. A blade of grass, a bit of debris, or even an overly fluffy food crumb can irritate the nose. These episodes typically cause sudden, repeated sneezing, often with head shaking or pawing at the face.

Dental disease is a surprising but significant cause of chronic sneezing. The roots of a cat’s upper teeth lie very close to the nasal passages, and dental infections can break into the sinus cavity.

This leads to ongoing sneezing, nasal discharge, and sometimes a foul smell. Regular dental care is essential for overall health and may resolve the sneezing if tooth disease is the root cause.

More rarely, growths such as nasal polyps or tumors can interfere with airflow, causing sneezing, noisy breathing, or discharge. These conditions require veterinary diagnosis and treatment.

When Sneezing Means Trouble

While occasional sneezing isn’t a concern, certain symptoms deserve a vet visit:

Sneezing paired with:

• thick or colored nasal discharge
• loss of appetite
• lethargy
• difficulty breathing
• bleeding
• persistent coughing

These signs indicate an underlying issue that needs prompt attention.

BUY: Cat Respiratory Comfort Supplement – Natural Breathe Easy Feline Support for All Seasons, Coughing, Occasional Nasal Stuffiness and Sneezing

Helping Your Cat at Home

Keep your cat’s environment dust-free, use unscented products, and ensure good ventilation. Running a humidifier can help soothe irritated nasal passages, especially during winter.

Sneezing in cats is common and often harmless, but sometimes it is your pet’s way of telling you something is wrong. Paying attention to associated symptoms and your cat’s overall behavior will help you determine whether it’s just a tickle — or time to call the vet.

All cats are special but orange-colored cats are in a league of their own. Who doesn’t love a gorgeous ginger colored moggie? There are plenty of famous orange cats attesting to their popularity and fun loving spirit. Here are five fun and fascinating facts about marmalade-shaded cats!

Famous Orange Tabbies Abound

Everyone loves Garfield, an irascible cartoon cat who just happens to be orange. Other famous orangie cats include Winston Churchill’s cat who was named Jock, and a feline named Stubbs, who was voted in as the honorary mayor of an Alaskan city. And you may remember the cat named Orangey, who starred in Breakfast at Tiffany’s—he stole the show!

Orangies Love to Eat

Orange cats love to eat! Ok, all cats love to eat, but orange cats will never miss dinnertime. They love it all, three square meals and snacks to boot. This means that careful pet owners should be on the lookout for signs of obesity and stop that right in its tracks. Being overweight can cause all sorts of troublesome (and expensive) problems that kitty doesn’t need.

One Gene Is Responsible for Orange Cats

Did you know that fur coloration is due to specific genes? The gene responsible for the lovely shade sported by orange cats is called pheomelanin. This gene can also be “diluted,” which just means that a dark orange cat can give birth to kittens ranging from light orange to very pale orange that looks cream in color.

Orange Cats Are One of Five Tabby Patterns

All orange cats are tabby cats, and the classic tabby pattern has five sub-patterns–all have a distinctive “M” shape their forehead. A classic or swirled tabby pattern makes the fur appear to be swirling and sometimes there is a “bullseye” mark on the flanks. Conversely, a spotted tabby looks as if the swirls are stripes that are broken up.

A ticked tabby pattern results in the fur looking like a solid color. But the fur is “banded” with each strand having multiple colors. From a distance, the bands blend together, and the moggie looks like one color.

A mackerel tabby has a long stripe running down the back, plus stripes that spread out from the spine and encircle the legs and tail. Finally, a patched tabby or tortoiseshell tabby has black and orange coloration and is seen only in females.

Some Orange Cats are Female

For every three male orange cats there is roughly one orange female walking around. Thus, it’s not true that every orange cat is a male! But it is true that every orange cat is special.

2. Sphynx

Out of all the hairless cat breeds, this one is the most well know. The Sphynx has been well known, especially due to its inclusion in movies for several years now. The Sphynx is one of the most popular cat breeds due to its affectionate behaviour, good looks and friendly persona.

What You Should Know

While this breed of cat is hairless, not all their skin is the exact same. Different colours and patterns make up the elements of their skin, making Sphynx cats unique. Some can even come in tortie and tabby like shades.

The Bambino cat is an adorable cross between the Sphynx and the Munchkin. It is classified as a dwarf breed and has short and muscly legs. Bambino means a baby, toddler or small child in Italian and this breed certainly lives up to that name. With the energy levels and activity needs of a small child, the bambino cat is an exciting breed to live with. Bambinos weigh between about 4 and 9 pounds and love cuddles.

What You Should Know

Bambinos are not hypoallergenic. In fact, they can produce the same allergy causing dander as some furred felines.

4. Peterbald

The Peterbald is a cross between the Oriental Shorthair and the Donskoy This beautiful combination provides the distinguished look of a Siamese cat but without the hair. Affectionate, cuddly and loving, Peterbalds are also very vocal and love to talk with their human friends.

What You Should Know

Peterbalds have a higher metabolism that those with full coats. This means they will require more in the way of nourishment. In fact, their fast metabolism makes it easier and faster for their skin to heal.

Ukrainian Levkoy Sphinx

5. Ukrainian Levkoy

This gorgeous feline is a cross between a Scottish Fold and a Donskoy. Perhaps the most unique of the hairless cat breeds, the Ukrainian Levkoy has folded ears and is also entirely hairless. This breed is not overly demanding and is able to find contentment on their own but also loves affection and attention when paid to them. Beware though, the Ukrainian Levkoy may come off a little standoffish at first, but once they warm up to you, they do well with everyone, including other animals.

What You Should Know

This is a relatively new breed of feline that dates back to the early 2000s. This cat also has wrinkles all over their bodies, giving them a distinctive look.

These 5 Hairless Cat Breeds are not only fabulous, but they all make great companions. Just make sure that you help them take good care of their skin.

Seeing your cat throw up is stressful — and messy. While occasional vomiting can be normal, frequent or repeated episodes usually signal a deeper issue. Cats vomit for many reasons, ranging from harmless hairballs to serious medical conditions that require urgent attention.

Understanding the difference can help you protect your cat’s health and know when it’s time to contact your veterinarian.
Here are the 7 most common reasons cats throw up — and the warning signs you shouldn’t ignore.

1. Hairballs

Hairballs are the most common cause of vomiting in cats, especially long-haired breeds like Persians, Ragdolls, and Maine Coons.
Why it happens:

Cats swallow hair when grooming. When too much hair collects in the stomach, they vomit to expel it. (BUY HAIRBALL TREATMENT HERE)

What the vomit looks like:

A long, tubular clump of fur — not food.

When to worry:

• Hairballs more than once per week
• Signs of obstruction (no stool, repeated gagging, lack of appetite)

How to reduce hairballs:

• Daily brushing
• Hairball gels
• High-fiber cat foods
• Omega-3 supplements

2. Eating Too Fast

Some cats inhale food like they’re in a race. When they eat too quickly, they often regurgitate immediately afterward.

What to look for:

• Vomit appears soon after eating
• It contains whole pieces of kibble
• Your cat seems otherwise normal

Solutions:

• Use a slow feeder bowl
• Try smaller, more frequent meals
• Separate cats during mealtime if one is a food hog

3. Food Allergies or Sensitivities

Cats can develop allergies or intolerances to ingredients like chicken, beef, dairy, or grains.

Symptoms:

• Itchy skin
• Diarrhea
• Gassy stomach
• Chronic vomiting
• Hair loss

Fix:

Switch to a limited-ingredient diet, ideally after consulting with your veterinarian. Novel proteins like duck or venison often help.

4. Gastritis (Stomach Irritation)

If your cat ate something they shouldn’t — plants, plastic, spoiled food, string — vomiting may follow.

Warning signs:

• Yellow bile
• Loss of appetite
• Lethargy
• Drooling
If symptoms persist more than 24 hours, call your vet.

5. Intestinal Parasites

Worms are far more common than most owners realize.

Signs of parasite-related vomiting:

• Weight loss
• Worms or eggs visible in stool
• Swollen belly
• Diarrhea

Regular deworming prevents this entirely.

6. Kidney Disease

Senior cats are especially prone to chronic kidney disease, which causes nausea and vomiting.
Symptoms:

• Drinking more
• Urinating more
• Weight loss
• Poor appetite
• Bad breath (ammonia smell)

This condition requires long-term veterinary management.

7. Serious Illness: When Vomiting Is an Emergency

Call your vet immediately if your cat is vomiting more than twice in a day, or if vomit is accompanied by:

• Blood
• Severe lethargy
• Collapsing
• No appetite for 24+ hours
• No water intake
• Sudden weight loss
• Abdominal pain
• Difficulty breathing

Cats hide pain — so vomiting is often your only clue something is wrong.

When to Call a Vet

You should call a vet if:

• Vomiting happens more than once a week
• Vomit contains blood or worms
• Your cat stops eating or drinking
• Your cat becomes lethargic or hides
• There’s diarrhea, drooling, or weight loss
• Your senior cat vomits repeatedly

It’s always better to be safe — cats decline quickly.

Of course, plenty of photos arrive on social media, and it seems that felines really don’t appreciate the fun as much as their owners. In fact, judging by some photos, they seem downright grumpy about it.

Halloween Cats Had Problem In The Olden Days

If grumpy cats that wear costumes during the spooky season knew their history, they might not object so much. Especially, black cats! Did you know that way back in history, black cats were thought to be evil? So sometimes, the unfortunate animals ended up sacrificed. Hopefully, there’s not too much of that going on in the year 2022. Mind you, it’s alarming at how many black pets disappear during Autumn.

Each year when Halloween comes around, folks across the USA either make their own costumes for their kitties, or head out shopping for feline apparel. And, there’s no shortage to choose from. Pirate costumes are popular, as are bees and birds and even Mario-styled fashionwear. Some of them are very inventive, but who knows how cute Felicity feels by dressing up as Minnie Mouse?

Halloween Cats In Costumes Appear On Social Media

On October 31. Twitter user Ben Porter posted up a photo of two cats. As you can see below, they looked seriously unimpressed with their outfits. However, as noted by Ben, “The cats might hate their costumes, but they sure are cute.” Yep, those are two very grumpy kitties.

Here’s another really irritated-looking cat who clearly does not appreciate the Halloween season.

Jeremiah Warren / Twitter

Fortunately, felines are loyal and lovable creatures, so in time, they might forgive their human owners. Mind you, Thanksgiving and Christmas loom ahead. So, the indignity isn’t over yet.

Does Dressing Up Your Cat Traumatize Them?

Halloween and other seasonal costumes for cats can be traumatic for the animals, according to The Cat Connection. Their website notes, “Make no mistake: cats hate wearing costumes. At the very best, your cat will tolerate it, but more than likely, she is traumatized by the costume itself, the process of dressing and undressing.”

Whilst it might look cute and be a lot of fun for the family, the outlet feels that all of the stress is way too over the top just to snap a few photos. Of course, the site does sell sweaters for cats, but only because sometimes, the cold is intolerable.

What are your thoughts about dressing up cats in costumes for photos to post on social media? Do you think it’s cruel? Or do you feel that it’s all a bit of harmless fun?

The 2023 edition of the Guinness World Records recognizes the big feline for well…growing tall: very tall for a domestic animal.

The Savannah Cat Is A Cross Breed

In April. residents of Buena Vista in Miami got a big shock when a large feline was seen wandering around their suburb. Well, it turned out that it was domesticated and not likely to harm anyone. Fortunately, Stryker was reunited with his owner. Actually, it turns out that the animal’s something of an Instagram celeb. Not to mention, Stryker is really a big softie.

If you do not know, Stryker, like Fenrir comes from a breed that is a cross between a serval and a domestic cat. The African species looks very attractive with lots of spots, like a miniature cheetah. Mind you, miniature is a relative term. Those who don’t know that they are crossbreeds often become nervous when they see them. Of course, large wild cats should never be kept in private captivity.

Savannah Cat Wins World Record Title For Being Very Tall

USA Today carried the story about Fenrir, now recognized as the tallest domestic cat. The owner of the big furbaby is a doctor named Will Powers and he hails from Michigan. Interestingly, the feline hangs out in the doctor’s rooms, so clearly, he’s very gentle. Additionally, the doctor has held other world records.

Guinness World Records / YouTube

The outlet cited the owner of Fenrir the Savannah Cat as saying, “He just grew and grew like Clifford the Big Red Dog.” Fenrir’s measurements are 18.82 inches or 47.83. centimeters. Fenrir lives with a man who had a tragic story about a cat that claimed the “longest tail” record. Previously, the doctor owned another specimen like Fenrir, named Arcturus. Unfortunately, the doctor lost them in a house fire and it broke his heart.

Doctor Has More Furry Friends

These days, the Savannah Cat, Fenrir, and others are part of Will Powers’ life again. He says that they help to keep him “well,” and they are very much a part of his family. When the video appeared on YouTube plenty of comments arrived.

One follower said, “This is my doctor! I love when I see his cats. Several visits, getting kitty cuddles helped soothe me when I was really doing badly. Best decision I ever made was seeing Dr. Powers and becoming his patient. He truly loves his cats and would do anything for them.

Another one said, “Aww i feel so sad that he couldn’t save his babies, it’s great to see him happy and moved on. Seemed like a difficult thing to talk about for him.”

Parish cat Sula won the hearts of a lot of people at the Mission San Juan Bautista. You never own a cat. It owns you. In the case of Sula, she owned an entire parish. However, parishioners now have to find a way to let go of their beloved kitty.

Parish Cat Sula Isn’t The Only Cat With A Mission

Other cats come into our lives with missions. For example, there’s a cat named Truffles who was rescued. And, when optometrist Danielle Kroll rescued the cute kit, she turned out to be very talented. Settling in quickly, the amazing feline friend settled into her new role of office cat. Not just any old role, either. These days, the furry friend entertains kids who need to wear glasses, and what’s more, the cat does some really cool tricks.

Like the parish cat, another one brought spiritual comfort to those who suffer from autism. Actually, cats are now being used as companion animals following growing research into the challenging condition. In fact, kids find enormous comfort in a warm and purring cat. According to a scientist at the Research Center for Human-Animal Interaction at the University of Missouri, they make a huge difference with their mission of loving-kindness.

Parish Cat Entertained So Many People

KSBW Action News 8 reported that Sula moved into the mission and basically grabbed a lot of love. Getting married? No problem, Sula was bound to arrive and help out with the rehearsal. Sometimes, Sula would visit people in the pews. At least there wasn’t any danger of them nodding off during the sermon. Often, the charming feline would stretch out below the altar while the priests carried out their tasks.

KSBW Action News 8 / YouTube

Sula the parish cat offered comfort, companionship, warmth, love, and purrs to an entire congregation. Unfortunately, in 2022, the parishioners need to organize a memorial for Sula the Parish cat. It’s been a long life of service and those that loved the cat enjoyed good company for 15 years. Sadly, and with respect, Sula will be remembered by a lot of people for a long time to come.

Sula Died From Cancer

Clearly, the parish cat was loved as the large-hearted animal fought the good fight against devastating cancer. Reporter Felix Cortez noted that one witness said Sula attended “every single mass.” In fact, the healing masses weren’t ignored either. Standing in line for healing didn’t manage to save the gorgeous kit, unfortunately. However, we’re pretty certain that angels accompanied him across the rainbow bridge.

What are your thoughts about this furry friend? Sound off in the comments below.

Did you know that? That helps them with balance and assists their precise movements. Plenty of other interesting and amazing facts could fill a whole book. But, we chose just a few that you might not have known.

Some Facts About Cats Are Just Weird

Some of the more common things known about cats is that they often stick their butts in the face of their owners. If you hadn’t heard, they really aren’t being rude, but it’s their way of saying they like you. Actually, it means they trust you, and wouldn’t mind a bit of loving attention. Of course, they also do it with other cats. That way, they can get a good whiff of a friend, which sounds just gross to humans.

It’s really not known why many cats seem obsessed with being the silent witness to your bowel motions in the loo. However, Wildlife biologist Imogene Cancellare threw out a guess at the amazing fact that cats seem to know exactly how to manipulate their owners. After all, there’s not a lot of people can do whilst sitting on the throne. So they might as well give their pet some loving attention.

Facts About Cats That Are 95,6 Percent Tigers

One mind-blowing bit of information came from Purina, who reported that your average domestic kitty is very closely related to giant and efficient hunters, Tigers. According to their website, they “share 95.6% of their genetic makeup” with the big striped cats. Oh, there’s another interesting point they raised. Did you know that the oldest domesticated kitty was found in a grave that was 9,000 years old? So, humans have been their besties since forever.

Pet Helpful dug up more amazing facts about cats. In their list of thirteen facts, one of them revealed that the animal share something in common with their favorite prey: birds! The outlet noted, “Like birds, cats have a homing ability that uses their biological clock, the angle of the sun, and the Earth’s magnetic field.”

Why Is That Family Pet Screaming?

So you think you know all the facts about cats? Come on and be honest about this one. Did you know that male cats have a “barbed penis?” If that thought isn’t eye-watering enough, it’s at an angle that really hurts when the deed is done and the male pulls out. No wonder the female felines scream so chillingly in the night before they beat up on their suitor.

So, if you are looking for VIP treatment for your furry loved one while you are away look no further.

Cats’ Tree Hotel Accommodation Has Competition

An astonishing growth in this market has led to the opening of similar facilities around the world. For example, the grand Catzonia, opened in Kuala Lumpur five years ago. At the time, they claimed to be the first luxury hotel for felines. Notably, the services on offer were things like temperature-controlled rooms, grooming, and spa services. The extreme popularity of this unusual service has seen more market entry.

Cats’ Tree Hotel has another competitor just across the ditch in the UK, Longcroft Luxury Cat Hotel in Romford, All feline companions who check in will be escorted to their suite and will be able to “dine like royalty”, the owner said. As well as, pampering, grooming, and presumably a vet on call.

Cats’ Tree Hotel The New In Thing

WQAD News 8 reported on YouTube that the establishment “will take your [Cat] while you’re out of town and gives them classically Parisian guest experiences and care.” but, be warned, demand is high. So, you need to ensure early booking for your furry friend. Reassuringly, devoted cat carers will even go to the lengths of sending you photos to ease your mind.

KAVOWO / PIXABAY

Also Known as l’Arbre a Chats, Cats’ Tree Hotel is the busiest during the period August to February. Remarkably, the establishment even runs a shuttle collection service for their guests. Peace of mind is what it’s all about. Furthermore, your cat will enjoy massages, a la carte dining, and the opportunity to meet and mingle with other furry friends.

As A Feline Lover, Would You Use It?

A lot of people might love the idea of Cats’ Tree Hotel. However, across social media, a lot of people say that they prefer staying in a pet-friendly establishment that allows them to be close to their furry loved ones. Nevertheless, pet-friendly hotels often require their guests to lock their pets in a cage during their absence. So, clearly, there are some drawbacks, but also room for improvement to accommodate both.

Travel involves often full-day excursions, which means that your pet is still being looked after. So, it makes sense to ensure while you are out sightseeing, your cat too is having a well-earned vacation.
