Ski season is over, mud season is looming and the summer season is just around the corner. And for Telluride, that means festival season. Telluride is renowned for its scenic beauty, unique mountain setting, colorful history and a world-class festival line-up that fills the summer weekends beyond Labor Day.

For summer 2011, Mountainfilm kicks off the season with films, speakers, art exhibits and more, gathering people who have come together to see what the human spirit can achieve.

The Telluride Bluegrass Festival boasts headliners Robert Plant, Emmylou Harris and The Decemberists, joining legends Sam Bush, Bela Fleck and others, to round out four amazing days of music, food and fun.

Telluride Wine Fest tempts the palate with participating vineyards and chefs from around the world at the end of June, and the Fourth of July in Telluride is one of the last true frontier celebrations in the West with local parade, flyovers, celebration in town park and fireworks.

The 2011 Telluride Jazz Festival features Tower of Power, Allen Toussaint and Rita Coolidge. Last year Phish played Telluride in early August with this year’s headliner yet to be announced.

The Telluride Festival of the Arts leads up to the renowned Telluride Film Festival, an annual premiere event for Oscar nominees including last year’s Best Picture winner, The King’s Speech.

Summer festival season finishes with Telluride Blues & Brews every September, featuring brewers from around the world to complement the headliners Willie Nelson, The Flaming Lips, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Dweezil Zappa plays Zappa, moe. and many more.

The Telluride Tourism Board (TTB) today announced that Michael Martelon has been selected to serve as president and chief executive officer effective March 21, 2011. Chairman of the Telluride Tourism Board, Tom Elrod, made the nnouncement following a lengthy, national search by the board of directors to fill this high profile position. “Michael’s more than 20 years of work in the tourism and hospitality industry incorporates an impressive array of marketing disciplines. He will provide the leadership necessary for the Telluride Tourism Board to rise above our competitors. As a Colorado native, he also brings a special passion for the state, in addition to his extensive experience in advertising, public relations, group sales, operations and consensus building, ” added Elrod. Martelon currently serves as an industry consultant who manages strategy and execution of branding programs, including the process, procedures and organizational effectiveness. Prior Colorado experience includes chief operating officer for Cactus Marketing & Communications and founder/president of OPTIMAL Marketing & Communications. He began his career with Irma S. Mann Strategic Marketing (ISM), a fully integrated travel and lifestyle agency in Boston, MA. Steve and Terry, along with Gray Head's Caretaker Mike Young, were the first Gray Headers to enjoy the convenience of pulling in to the heated, underground Element 52 garage and then using the ski valet before hopping on to the funicular and on to the slopes. They weren't able to relax by the fire for apres ski ...maybe next time.

Telluride Real Estate....on a positive note

The stock market showed unbelievable September gains; biggest since 1939.
TelSki ski area expansions and the Powder Magazine article may create a “new buzz” for Telluride as this season’s best ski destination.
A new festival was added this summer: the Photo Festival
Telluride Ski and Golf have been given approval to expand and improve the existing snowmaking system ($7M+). This project will allow Telski to upgrade and enhance the existing snowmaking system it is now using to improve early season snow conditions. “With these improvements Telski will be able to offer a better early season experience to guests of the ski area and that benefits the local economy and the community,” said District Ranger Judy Schutza. With better snowmaking in place, Telluride could be in the running to host a World Cup event.
Riverwatch Condo closing at $1,100 sq ft; mirroring the same caliber as Element 52.
Continental & United Airlines Merger – Telluride Airport will be able to accommodate more Q400 NextGen aircraft as airport improvements continue through November. The Q400 also has new improvements and will be further enhanced with the introduction of larger overhead bins that will accommodate standard roller bags. Combining these features with the Active Noise and Vibration Suppression (ANVS) system will give the Q400 NextGen aircraft passenger an even more pleasant cabin experience.
Summer tourism was up.
