End of Semester Party

On June 21, 2011, End of Semester Party was conducted at Night Club. Students, members of administration and faculty members celebrated the end of the academic year. The musical band of Caucasus University and singers performed at party.

Student Self-Government intends to renew its activity. In July Student Self-Government will conduct the final session.

Awarding Ceremony of The Winners of the Project “Kartuli Poladi”

On June 23, 2011, Awarding Ceremony of The Winners of the Project “Kartuli Poladi” was conducted.

JSC “Kartuli Poladi” held contest for the second time this year. The contest was divided into three parts: Test, Case Review and Business Project Presentation.

The students of the following universities took part in the project:

Caucasus University;
Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University;
Guram Tavartkiladze State University;
Free University of Georgia;
Georgian Technical University;
Grigol Robakidze University;
University of Georgia;
Ilia Chavchavadze State University.

More than 800 students of above-mentioned universities took part in the first round. 263 students took part in the second round. Finally, the best 31 works were selected. The students presented their projects. Among them were 5 students of Caucasus University: Ann Sturua, Giorgi Menteshashvili, Mariam Ioseliani, Archil Londaridze and Salome Imedashvili.

Mariam Ioseliani and Archil Londaridze became the scholars of JSC “Kartuli Poladi”. They will be receiving scholarships worth 200 GEL for a year.

A Guest Lecture by Haim Koren

On June 20, 2011, By the initiative of Embassy of Israel in Georgia and his excellence the Ambassador of Israel to Georgia Dr. Itzhak Gerberg, a guest lecture was conducted by Haim Koren from Israel, who is the expert on Islam.

Mr. Haim Koren gave a lecture on the following issues:

Islam in Central Asia and the Caucasus;
Recent Development in the Middle East and beyond.

The students, faculty and staff members attended the lecture. The lecture was followed by discussion.

CST Junior Students created Robots

CST junior students finished their third year of studying. They took electronic course. In the final exam project, students had to create and implement projects related to electronics. They made the following named robots: “Line Tracking Mouse”, ”Hexapod Monster”, ”Escape Robot”, “Voice Control Robot”, “Terrifying Ultrasound”.

Lecturer Juansher Jejelava said that students had worked days and nights. At first, it seemed hard to them, but they carried out practical work.

Dissertation Proposal at Caucasus School of Business

On June 15, 2011 the dissertation proposal took place by postgraduate student of Caucasus School of Business and Robinson College of Business joint PhD Program, Akaki Kheladze.

The topic of Dissertation proposal was “Knowledge Transfer in International Joint Ventures effect on the cultural distance on the degree of knowledge transferred“.

The dissertation proposal was approved by the committee, namely Dr. David Bruce (Georgia State University), Dr. Kakha Shengelia (Caucasus University), Dr. Mzia Mikeladze (Caucasus University), Dr. Georgia Turkia (Caucasus university), Dr. Boris Lezhava (Caucasus University).

A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed with the Central Election Commission of Georgia

On June 13, 2011 the Central Election Commission of Georgia (CEC), Center for Electoral Systems Development Reforms and Trainings signed a memorandum of cooperation with Caucasus University and Universities accredited in Georgia. Document signed at “Courtyard Marriot” Hotel, considers to implement training courses in election field in various higher universities.

According to the memorandum, election administration will launch a training course, and students of journalism faculties from higher universities will participate; they will also get acquainted with the principles of election administration activities and election systems existing in Georgia. Training for future journalists has a great importance, as the basic knowledge towards election related issues will support improved broadcasting of election processes.

Training program for the future journalists will be organized by the Center for Electoral Systems Development Reforms and Trainings.

CST Freshman made a Robot

CST freshman Demur Nodia made a robot, that avoids any obstacle the robot may face in its way.
It should be noted that junior students are taking electronics course. In the final exam project, students must create and implement projects related to electronics.

On June 11, 2011, The session of Qualifying Committee took place at CSL. The following three topics for the master’s thesis were discussed and approved:

"The Future Enhancement of Victims Role In International Criminal Justice" – Graduate Student Eka Gogoladze (Instructor Boris Janjalia);
"Tax Control System (Comparative Legal analysis)" – Graduate Student David Aslamadze (Instructor Zviad Rogava);

CSM Student became Contest Winner

Graduate student Nino Prangishvili won fourth place in competition held by “Peritus Group”. Participants had to prepare branding concept for Tbilisi, Batumi and Sighnaghi. Nino Prangishvili’s project was one of the best.

On June 8, awarding ceremony was conducted at Exhibition Hall of National Library. Nino was awarded with certificate and valuable prizes. She is currently taking the concentration in strategic communication. Administration of Caucasus University congratulates her on this success.

On June 2, Vice-President of National Bank of Georgia Otar Nadaraia visited Caucasus University and met with students of Business School. He delivered a lecture on "Risk-Based Supervision”.

The discussion was rather productive for the students, who were absolutely involved in the process and asked Mr.Otar different questions.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between Caucasus University and Georgian Quality Foundation

Caucasus University and Georgian Quality Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding. The memorandum includes the usage of theoretical and practical knowledge, strengthening practical skills, passing out practical courses by the students during assessment carried out by Georgian Quality Foundation. According to the memorandum students will be involved in organizing and conducting various events.

Business Seminars were completed successfully

Alumni Relations and Career Services of Caucasus University organized Business Seminars for CU students. The seminar included following topics: “Business Talks”, “Marketing and Branding”, “Business Case” and “Analysis of financial assets”.

Seminars were conducted by Assistant Professors of Caucasus University: Levan Gogoladze, Elene Jgarkava, Paata Brekasvili, Giorgi Natroshvili. Three-week seminars were completed successfully. Students were awarded with certificates.

Students filled out questionnaire and expressed their opinion. All Students rated the seminars positively. According to the survey the majority of participants are willing to take part in the seminars. They also named desire topics.

CST Students visited House-Museum of Ilia Chavchavadze

On May 29, 2011, CST Students together with the President of Caucasus University visited House-Museum of Ilia Chavchavadze. Then they left for Zedazeni Monastery.

It should be noted that Mr. Kakha Shengelia is a lecturer of History of Georgia. So the course itself includes visiting Monuments of Georgian Architecture and Famous people Houses and Museums.

Public Lecture in Comparative Administrative Law

CTS Students visited Sheraton Batumi Hotel

On May 20, 2011, Students of Tourism School met with representatives of Sheraton Batumi Hotel. CTS students were given presentations about Principles of Hotel Management, Tourist Behavior.
Students got acquainted with Hotel Structure. They visited hotel rooms, cooking rooms, swimming pools, exercise rooms and conference halls.
During the summer, students will undergo practical training at Sheraton Batumi Hotel.

American News Producer James Trengrove conducted a Lecture

Uniquely experienced news producer James Trengrove delivered a lecture on “TV News Projects and Political Talk Shows” at CSM. He responded students’ questions about “Relationship Between US Government and the Media” and “Talk Show Production”. James Trengrove is the founder of Barnaby Woods Group. He worked for “Chicago Tonight”. Within this period the program was twice honored with Emmys. James Trengrove developed and launched groundbreaking debate television program. Under the support of Public Affairs Section of the Embassy of the United States in Georgia he was invited to CSM. Lecture was conducted within the framework of course “Creating TV News”.

On May 23, 2011, NATO’s corner was opened at Caucasus University. Students met with State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Giorgi Baramidze and Lithuanian Ambassador Jonas Paslauskas. The main topic of meeting was “NATO-Georgia cooperation issues, Process of Georgias integration into NATO”.
