An allergy refers to an exaggerated reaction by our immune system in response to bodily contact with certain foreign substances. These foreign substances are usually seen by the body as harmless and no response occurs in non- allergic people. IN allergic people, their body recognizes the foreign substance and one part of the immune system is turned on causing various allergies like eczema (skin allergy), asthma (chest allergy), eye allergy etc. Allergy-producing substances are called "allergens." Examples of allergens include pollens, dust mite, molds, danders, and foods. The various causes of allergies can be &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Food items – Various nuts, sea food, drinks, eggs, milk, wheat etc.&lt;br /&gt;Clothing items like wool can cause skin allergy&lt;br /&gt;Dust, pollens, dander can cause skin and chest allergy&lt;br /&gt;Sunlight can cause skin allergy&lt;br /&gt;Insect bites&lt;br /&gt;Tics and mites&lt;br /&gt;Allergy to various medicines like penicillins, sulfa drugs.&lt;br /&gt;Various cosmetics and chemicals&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The allergen (listed above) triggers the immune response and presents as various forms like in skin, eyes, chest etc. Usually a person can outgrow various allergies over few years.
