Well folks, it's been a nice run here at the 'spot', but it's time to close up shop & move on. I'm officially moving Causticity's Place over to Wordpress. If you have me on your roll, please update the old link to the new & improved Causticity's Place. Now that I've been using Wordpress for a while, there is much more flexibility in their system. Thanks to all the readers and commenters that have stopped by over the last few years.

WTF?! In July you said our economy was basically sound.

Here it is September and now we're in danger? Just one more lie knotched onto the bedpost of this Administration.

Obviously, we were in danger in July and that statement was made to help Wallstreet feel better. Now you want to bailout those greedy bastards, so they can go back to making more profits? On the backs of American taxpayers yet? How is it our fault greed got us into this mess, and how is it our fault people are too stupid to figure out they can't afford the mortgages they signed on the dotted lines for? What ever happened to people making mistakes and accepting the consequences of those mistakes??

Georgie Porgie has nothing to lose. His approval numbers can't get much lower, and if this bailout fails...he'll still be sitting back in Texas relaxing with his feet up while one of the new schmucks tries their hand at getting us out of this mess.

Yes folks, I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan and proud of it. What little respect I've gained from my friends and readers has probably vanished, but I don't care. No I haven't jumped on the bandwagon. I've been a Cowboys fan since I was knee high to a grasshopper and I've stood by them through thick and thin. The million dollar question that everyone asks is 'how do you become a Cowboys fan living in Pennsylvania'? Well, I grew up smack dab in the middle of PA out in the middle of nowhere. No one really heard of the Eagles because they are perpetual losers (yes, jab intended). Eagles fans are annually let down year after year, and they still haven't won the big one. Did you know pharmaceutical industry statistics jump each year in December and January for depression medications here in Eastern Pennsylvania? ;) Anyway, back to my story...and I just didn't hop on the Steelers success in the 70's. So here I am a loyal Cowboys fan and I'm finding myself in a quandary.

Back in November 2005 I wrote a post Egomaniac lamb basting a certain someone who is now on our team. Yes, I'm talking about Mr. T.O. Most didn't think the marriage would last including myself, but here we are in 2008 and he has become an integral part of this team and their recent success. How can I forgive someone that has repeatedly dissed the star and acted so immaturely?

At one time I hated this guy for his selfishness and antics. I'll give the guy credit, he is a great football player. Whatever has happened, it seems to be working. Whether he has finally matured, actually learned his lesson or is just handcuffed by numerous clauses in his contract to behave, his spotlessness continues to be a mystery. I secretly find myself rooting for him during games. I feel so dirty and hypocritical. I've never lived by the philosophy of do whatever it takes to win and personally, I think Jerry Jones is the devil in disguise. So this season I will be once again 'getting my popcorn ready' and sitting on the couch wondering to myself; where do I go from here?

Another scary erosion of American's Civil Rights brought to you by our paranoid Government. You can bet your bottom dollar that I will be encrypting my hard drive prior to leaving on any vacations. I have nothing to hide so if they want my information bad enough, they will have to work for it. Our personal property is no longer ours. Laptops, cell phones, iPods, digital cameras etc can all be confiscated and analyzed. Just another typical sad day here in our floundering country. I can only hope our kids will have some remnants of civil rights left when they are our age. Though at the rate our Government is going, Civil Rights will one day be a thing of the past.

Ok, it's only August and we have these two clowns going at it already. It is going to be a long three months. When are politicians going to learn that we don't care how much mud you can sling but, "what are you going to do for me". Stick with the issues guys and tell us what we want to hear; how are you going to fix our broken country?

Oh & by the way, what real MAN needs a pair of $520 shoes? Mccain sounds like more of the celebrity to me. Why don't you put some of your millions towards some plastic surgery to fix those bulldog like jowls??

As you know my time here at Causticity's Place has been limited. Recently, my creative juices have been leaning towards photography. I mentioned in a previous post a while back that I have two mentors to thank for this. Dorman over at Sisyphus Today and my father-in-law. I've been interested in photography since I was a teen. I found it difficult to immerse myself in this hobby using a film camera, but with the advent of the digital camera, it has become easy to obtain that instant gratification most of us crave. I currently use a point and shoot Sony DSC-H1, but hope to graduate to a DSLR at some point.
It must be a photographer thing, but if you asked each one of us, we do not feel our work is that great. Others seem to differ. The photos that Dorman and my father-in-law capture are wonderful. Everyone that has seen my photos has said I take good pictures. I wonder to myself; are they just being nice or is my work actually pretty decent? Only time will tell I guess. My wife & I had watched the John Adams series on HBO which has rekindled an interest in American History in the both of us. We've traveled to Philadelphia and taken pictures around the Old City area and most recently attended a Revolutionary War Reenactment at the Daniel Boone Homestead in our hometown of Birdsboro, Pa. Each Spring, we pick a project around the house to work on. This helps boost our floundering economy by spending our hard earned tax refund ;) This year's project was our bedroom. New paint, crown molding and refinished hardwood floors (as I write this), have left us with a blank canvas so to speak. So I've done something I thought I would never do, I've taken the next step of printing & framing a few of my photos. Some of the photos from the above events, will soon adorn the walls of our bedroom. I can only hope to create a comfy abode.
Dorman has also taken a pretty big step as well. He has taken his passion for photography and opened his very own photography business Die Strafbar Photography! To make a long story short, this is one more example of our society bowing to political correctness. A 5yo girl for crying out loud chose the name of the mascot and had no intention of offending anyone. A few complained and they gave in. The mascot is a pig, not a Latino. I searched google images for pork chops and guess what? NOT ONE Hispanic or Latino showed up in the search! Next thing you know, they will want the name of the cut of meat changed as well. It's all in the context as this gentleman points out Context of mascot's name made it inoffensive. Buck up people and quit crying every time something doesn't make you happy. By the way, after this post I'm writing a letter to Nabisco to have the word cracker taken off of their saltine packages. It just makes me sick each time I reach for that box. ;)

Lew Bryson - Pennsylvania Breweries

I received this book as a gift last year and have enjoyed it immensely. Beer followers are aware that Michael Jackson recently passed away. No not THAT Michael Jackson, unfortunately that freak is still alive. Michael Jackson the beer/spirits critic. Another writer that enjoys craft beers and spirits is Lew Bryson. This book reviews all of the Brewpubs in Pennsylvania, critiques their brews, the food and the atmosphere. He also gives the reader directions on how to get there! My wife and I have used this book throughout the summer for several day excursions. My goal is to visit each one listed in the book. No I'm NOT an alcoholic. I enjoy craft beers and find it difficult to drink the watery domestics that are produced for the masses. Brew pubs succeed and fail all the time, but have no fear! Lew has a website where he updates closings and openings; Lew Bryson.com and a blog too LewBryson.Blogspot. Lew has also written books for other areas along the East Coast, so if you're a reader outside the Pennsylvania area, you just might be in luck!

We've visited a good majority of those listed in the book. Fortunately for us, we live in an area where there are several brewpubs within a two hour drive. A word of advice when visiting a brew pub/brewery, DO NOT order one beer from their menu. Ask if they have a sampler and try them all. The samples are small enough that you will have no problem driving, (unless you weigh about 60lbs). More often than not, you will order a beer you may not like and end up with a bad experience. Each brewery usually has several beers on tap with varied tastes. There is usually something for everyone, but do not expect beers like Coors Light or Miller as you will be sorely disappointed. Enough rambling for now. In a future post, I will list some of the places we've been!

It's that time of year again when I prefer to be outside rather than staring at a computer screen. The Spring consisted of a bathroom renovation which seems to have sapped most of my energy & creativity. These days the little creativity I have remaining can be seen on my Flickr account. I've contracted the shutter "bug" from Dorman and my father-in-law. With that being said, check back periodically. I just might be able to come up with something to say. TTFN.

This woman from India's northeast hopes to set a new record by eating a massive quantity of the world's hottest pepper is going to be hot stuff.
I had not heard of this pepper Bhut Jolokia until I read the article. It is rated at over 1 million scoville heat units, 4 times hotter than the Red Savina! For those of you that are not familiar with the Scoville Scale here is some info. Keep in mind this table seems to be outdated. I grew several plants of the orange habanero's a few years ago and those puppies were hot. All I know is that I want to be nowhere in proximity to this woman the day after her record attempt!

My friend Carnealian has recently written a few environmentally friendly posts over at her site Graven Images. As I commented on her blog, one of the easiest things to do to help the environment is to replace all of your incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. I came across this site 18Seconds.org that contains all kinds of nifty info. Enjoy and don't forget to change those bulbs!
