CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Cavaliers have acquired the Los Angeles Lakers’ first round pick in the 2012 NBA Draft (lottery-protected) and forwards Jason Kapono and Luke Walton from the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for guard Ramon Sessions and guard/forward Christian Eyenga.

Additionally, the Cavaliers received the right to swap their least favorable first round pick in the 2013 NBA Draft with the Lakers (Please note: the Cavaliers currently own their own first round pick and Miami’s) and cash considerations.

“We want to thank Ramon and Christian for their hard work and contributions here. Ramon is a true pro and approached his job in a way that showed that every day. Christian grew a great deal during his time here and worked very hard on his game. We wish both of them the very best,” said Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant. “Our primary focus continues to center on building this team with our young core and, most importantly, through the draft as we develop a very talented group that can play and succeed together for many years to come.”

Kapono, 31, is averaging 2.0 points on .382 shooting and 0.5 rebounds in 9.9 minutes per game in 27 games this season. He was originally drafted by the Cavaliers in the second round of the 2003 NBA Draft (31st overall). He has career averages of 6.7 points on .442 shooting and 1.7 rebounds in 509 games (87 starts).

Walton, also 31, is averaging 1.3 points on .429 shooting and 1.6 rebounds in 7.1 minutes per game in nine games during the 2011-12 season. Also an eight-year veteran drafted in the second round of the 2003 NBA Draft (32nd overall), Walton has career averages of 4.9 points on .433 shooting, 2.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 17.3 minutes per game in 493 games (138 starts).

Sessions is averaging 10.5 points on .398 shooting, 3.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 41 games (four starts) in 24.5 minutes per game. In 122 games with the Cavaliers, he averaged 12.3 points on .445 shooting, 3.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 25.7 minutes per game.

Eyenga has appeared in six games this season and totaled nine points and 12 rebounds in 83 minutes. Drafted with the 30th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the 6-foot-7 guard/forward from Congo averaged 6.2 points on .409 shooting and 2.7 rebounds in 20.5 minutes per game in 50 games (18 starts) in two seasons with the Cavaliers.

The slumping Cavaliers are back at home tonight to take on the Jazz, as the team tries to break it’s longest skid since last season’s NBA-record 26-game losing streak.

The team hasn’t been able to get things going with star Andy Varejao, and he’s still going to be out till likely the 18th with his fractured wrist.

The Cavs are sitting at 13-22, while the Jazz, who have been struggling as of late. They have lost six straight road games since a 98-88 win over Memphis on Feb. 12, their lone victory in their last 11 away from Salt Lake City.

They haven’t dropped seven consecutive road contests since Dec. 4-19, 2007.

While the Cavs have been losing, they are still on the verge of getting things turned around, and you can declare your allegiance for the Cavs with the State Farm Nation, now live on Facebook!

The “State of Fandom” allows you to have customized Facebook cover photos, have friends or foes with fans of the Cavs, or other teams in the NBA that you just love to hate.

You can also generate your NBA fan graph to see where your Facebook friends’ loyalties lie, and hopefully cheer them on as they break their losing streak tonight vs the Jazz.

The Cavs have had lopsided losses to New York and Chicago during their current slide, but the other three defeats have come by a total of 11 points. In a 101-98 loss to Washington on Saturday, the Cavs had a chance to send the game to overtime but Anthony Parker missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Things for the Cavs this week won’t get a lot easier, as they head to the road on Wednesday to play Denver, and then will play maybe the best team in the West, as they take on OK City on Friday before returning home to play the Rockets on Sunday.

CLEVELAND – Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving was named today as the NBA’s Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for games played in the month of February.

Irving played in 10 games during February and averaged 19.3 points on .422 shooting, 3.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists in 35.3 minutes per game. During the month, he ranked 1st in scoring, three-point percentage, free throw percentage and assists among Eastern Conference rookies. Irving scored 20 or more points in six of 10 games (the most 20-point games by a rookie in the month) and shot at least .500 from the field four times in games played in February. Irving also averaged 6.8 points per fourth quarter in the month, which was the most among all Eastern Conference rookies.

For the month, Irving shot 41-43 (.953) from the free throw line and has currently made 31 consecutive free throws. His .953 free throw percentage is the highest by a rookie in a month since Chauncey Billups set an NBA rookie record by going 41 for 41 in March 1998 (minimum 40 free throw attempts).

Irving notched a game-high tying 23 points, including 5-5 from the foul line, in 39 minutes against Sacramento on Feb. 19. Trailing by one with 2.9 seconds remaining, Irving knocked down two free throws to win the game. Irving scored 25 points on 8-15 (.533) shooting to go along with eight assists in 39 minutes of work against the Pistons on Feb. 21. In the fourth quarter, Irving scored 17 points on 6-9 (.667) shooting, including 3-3 from three-point range. The 6-foot-3 rookie set a career high in assists with 11, with only two turnovers against the Hornets on Feb. 22.

The Cavs were game, but in the end Ray Allen and Boston was just a little bit better.

Allen scored 22 points and Kevin Garnett added 18 as the Celtics did more down the stretch, and it was enough, as the Cavs fell to Boston 86-83 on Tuesday night.

The win for Boston snaps a five-game losing streak.

Boston, which couldn’t hold a 16-point lead in the first quarter, avoided its first six-game skid since dropping seven in a row from April 4-15, 2007.

Kyrie Irving returned from a bruised elbow that sidelined him late in the second quarter and led Cleveland with 24 points, 19 in the second half.

The Rising Stars Challenge belonged to Cavs rookie Kyrie Irving Friday night, as the first overall pick made eight 3-pointers and finished with 34 points, winning the MVP of the event.

The output by Irving helping Team Chuck beat Team Shaq 146-133.

Indiana’s Paul George added 23 points, and another Cavalier – Tristan Thompson scored 20 points to lead Team Shaq. New York Knicks sensation Jeremy Lin only had two points.

This year’s Rising Stars Challenge had a different format, with the rookie and second-year players mixed together on teams for the first time. The league also inserted a little more name recognition with former stars Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley serving as general managers and drafting the teams.

While the teams had a different look, there was once again no real defensive effort and plenty of fan-pleasing fast breaks and flashy play.

Irving opened the game with an alley-oop to George, and Minnesota rookie Ricky Rubio turned routine passes to his Shaq teammates into behind-the-back and between-the-leg looks.

It was part of an acrobatic early tone that was fast-paced and allowed the next generation of stars to showcase open-court and aerial skills that have already made many of them fan favorites on their respective teams.

Lin had a relatively quiet night. His biggest highlight came early in the second half when he took a pass from Rubio and drove it underneath for a reverse layup.

He played just nine minutes before heading to the bench midway in the second half, and instead mostly yielded to the more high-flying players on his team. He took just four shots.

Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin had several highlights while playing for Team Shaq, catching several alley oops and even throwing his own pass off the glass and catching it for a dunk.

CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed guard Manny Harris from the Canton Charge of the NBA Development League, Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant announced today. The signing of Harris marks the 27th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2011-12 season. Harris will wear No. 6 for the Cavaliers and is available for tonight’s game against the Detroit Pistons.

In 17 games (12 starts) with Canton this season, Harris is averaging 21.4 points on .470 shooting with 7.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.7 steals in 32.9 minutes per game. He currently ranks third in the D-League in scoring. Yesterday, he was named the NBA Development League Performer of the Week for games played from February 13-19. Harris also earned the honor on January 30th, making him the only player in the league to do so twice this year. In two games last week, he averaged 41.0 points on .574 shooting with 9.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.5 steals in 44.5 minutes per contest.

Injury update: Daniel Gibson (sprained ankle) will dress tonight, coach Byron Scott said. He’s the likely starter at shooting guard vs. Detroit.

CLEVELAND – Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving has been named as a participant in the 2012 Taco Bell Skills Challenge to be held on Saturday, Feb. 25 in Orlando during NBA All-Star Weekend, the NBA announced today. Irving joins defending champion Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs, John Wall of the Washington Wizards, Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Deron Williams of the New Jersey Nets in the skills challenge.

Irving, the number one overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, currently leads all rookies in scoring (18.3), field goal percentage (.485) and free throw percentage (.846) while ranking second in assists (4.8) and third in three-point field goal percentage (.419) in 30.5 minutes per game through 26 games. He was named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for games played in the months of December and January.

The 19-year-old point guard becomes the third player in Cavaliers franchise history to be invited to participate in the skills challenge and the first since Mo Williams in 2009. Irving is also set to participate in the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge on Friday, Feb. 24 as a member of Team CHUCK. Teammate and fellow rookie Tristan Thompson will also participate in the game as a member of Team SHAQ.

The Taco Bell Skills Challenge was introduced at NBA All-Star 2003 in Atlanta and features six players competing in a two-round timed “obstacle course” consisting of dribbling, passing and shooting stations. All players must observe basic NBA ball-handling rules while completing the course. The three players with the fastest times from the first round advance to the finals with the order of competition determined by inverse order of the first round times. At the discretion of the referee, television instant replay may be consulted for clarification of rules compliance.

The Taco Bell Skills Challenge will be televised live nationally as part of the NBA All-Star Saturday Night presented by State Farm, which will also feature the Haier Shooting Stars, Foot Locker Three-Point Contest and Sprite Slam Dunk. TNT and ESPN Radio’s national coverage will begin at 7 p.m. EST from Amway Center in Orlando. The 61st NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, Feb. 26, will air live on TNT and ESPN Radio, and in more than 200 countries in more than 40 languages.
