How to choose best Surveillance CCTV Camera?

CCTV cameras have evolved substantially in the last decade. But in all fairness, these are not a part and parcel in everyone’s life. So looking through the newest of CCTV technologies, features and types of CCTV security cameras can be intimidating. Also, asking for help from a marketing consultant could be just a waste of time. They usually throw in the most polished words to make buying CCTVs all the more difficult. So before you choose the best CCTV camera for your home or business, you need to have a brief idea on what to look for.

1. Does it come with an inbuilt SD card slot or does it depend on a separate internal storage on DVR?

With the advancement of CCTV technology, today many of the CCTV cameras are CCTV systems by themselves. They come with a micro SD card slot in them. Users can insert memory cards of various capacities, 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB for recording. Many of modern CCTV cameras sold in India are upgradeable up to 128GB.

But there are also cheaper cameras that do not have the internal storage and depend on the surveillance hard disk in the DVR.

2. Pan/Tilt

The modern CCTV cameras can rotate horizontally and vertically to cover a large space around them. The maximum angle that a CCTV camera can rotate horizontally is called as Pan and vertically is tilt. Some of the best CCTV cameras, for instance, Sricam SP005 SP Series can pan up to 355 degrees and tilt up to 90 degrees. Certain CCTV cameras could be remotely rotated by their apps. So if you want to monitor a large portion of three-dimensional space, a CCTV camera with higher pan/tilt is essential.

3. Image quality

The best CCTV cameras of today produce videos in 720p (1MP) and 1080p resolution. Of course, greater the resolution, better will be the quality, however, it also means you need a higher amount of storage to record a day’s video. If you have a DVR with large internal storage in terabytes, buying a high-resolution camera may not be a bad idea. But cameras with inbuilt storage will easily get filled. To deal with this, some of the cameras have an overwrite feature which self-erase micro SD once it fills up and continues recording. Obviously, this can create recording loss problems. A 1MP camera approximately takes up to 38GB of data space on recording for a whole day. So relate the resolution of CCTV camera also with the storage space and backup time than just with the visual quality before choosing a particular CCTV camera.

4. Does it have a motion and audio sensor?

Motion sensors are actually a part of smart security cameras. These are currently not very popular in India because of their high price but are definitely the future of CCTV cameras. For instance, Samsung Smartcam HD Pro costs Rs.18,499 per piece. With motion and audio sensors, CCTV cameras detect and alert owners about unusual sounds and movements by sending them a notification on their mobile app. If you are in need of a top-notch security system and want to best protect your home or office, buying a CCTV camera with motion and audio sensors is worth the money.

5. Is it easy to Install and setup?

In general, wireless CCTV cameras are the easiest to install and set up as there are no cables involved. The ease of CCTV camera installation mainly depends on positioning and mounting. The cameras with magnetic bases or sticky pads are easy to mount, but for a long-term, screwing the camera on the wall is a reliable way.

If a CCTV camera has a good pan/tilt, it might not require accurate positioning. You might just place them over a heightened table or wardrobe.

However, if, to mount a CCTV camera it requires to drill holes and hammer moulding pins and screw them, the installation could be difficult and might require professional help. Some CCTV Camera Suppliers in India offer free installation on the purchase. A good CCTV camera product will come along with a mounting stand and screws.

For first time use, you might require to download an app from Google Play Store on your phone, install it, signup and authenticate by scanning the QR code on the camera. This should only take a few minutes. Overall, the setup process of a CCTV camera should be an easy process in this day and age.

6. Can it be used for Video chat with your family?

There are CCTV cameras with an inbuilt microphone that allow 2-way communication. This is useful for people who want to keep in touch with their kids at home and ensure their safety and security.

7. Is it Waterproof?

For an outdoor CCTV camera, waterproofing is a must. If you want to monitor the space in front of your shop, home or any other outdoor space, you should look for waterproof CCTV cameras.

8. What are the accessories that come in the box?

Before you choose a CCTV camera, you have to check the details about the contents you will be getting on buying it. The key contents to look for are installation gear like mounting stand, power screws, cables and power adaptor. Sometimes, low-cost CCTV cameras do not come with power adapters, and it would be an additional expense. So make sure you get all these in your package.

9. Number of Infra-Red LEDs in the Camera

Infra-Red LEDs are small bulbs located on the sides of the lens at the centre. These provide Infra-Red light at night for night vision. Greater the number of LEDs, better will be the quality of recordings at night.

10. The maximum range of the camera

The maximum range or range of a CCTV camera is dependent on the focal length of the lens and size of the image sensor. Greater the range, the clearer will be the objects captured from the far away distances. Higher range is essential for outdoor CCTV cameras. A CCTV camera should have an at least of 20 to 25mtrs of range.

11. Does it work offline, does it have an inbuilt Hotspot.

Inbuilt Hotspot in a CCTV camera allows users to access the live stream on their smartphone without the need of an internet Wi-Fi. But this works within a limited distance from the camera. These cameras are easy to identify as they have an antenna on them. This is a good feature to have in CCTV cameras installed in small shops and malls. Managers can monitor various parts of the floor, without having to connect to the internet connection.

12. Does it connect to existing DVR?

Some manufacturers make and sell CCTV cameras as a part of the CCTV system. They are only compatible with their parent DVR. So if you are buying a CCTV camera for an existing DVR, make sure it is compatible with it.

13. Is the CCTV camera supplier legit?

Over the past few years, the number of CCTV Dealers in Delhi and other major cities of India have tremendously increased. Many of these do not have the certification to offer and install CCTV cameras. But since the surveillance rules in India are a grey area, these companies are still lurking around in the market. It is estimated that over 75% of the CCTV installations are illegal. Times are changing and in future, a new law could be passed to remove illegal installations. So make sure you look for reputed and certified, CCTV Camera Dealers before ordering an installation. Also, when buying from online stores, make sure that images shown are real. It is possible that some products are showcased with misleading images.

14. Outdoor vs. Indoor Cameras

Indoor cameras are suitable for offices and homes. These are compact in size and typically have a dome shape.

Outdoor cameras, on the other hand, are used for spaces including grounds, outside shops, markets, airport, roads etc. These have high pan/tilt and zoom which enables them to cover large spaces.

15. Wired or Wireless CCTV cameras?

Wired:

Wired CCTV cameras are quite popular in India because of their lower price. These are connected to DVR through a Siamese Coax Cable. Wired CCTV cameras are more reliable than wireless CCTV cameras as they are hard connected through wires.

Wireless:

Wireless cameras offer benefits in terms of mobility and scalability. These are usually easy to install and move around. Good quality branded wireless cameras are expensive than wired cameras. The high-end offices and homes today prefer these cameras as they do not disturb the aesthetics with wires and cables. For using wireless cameras, one should have a high-quality router, reliable internet connection, and speed.

16. Price and Warranty

A decent quality CCTV camera comes with at least a one year warranty and the robust ones can have a warranty up to 3 or more years.

17. Best CCTV brands of India

Sricam, IFITech, and Vintage are some of the popular and reputed CCTV camera brands.

CCTV Camera have come a long way since being first presented into the industry in the late 1950's. There are all kinds of CCTV Security Camera now such as dome Security Camera, topic Security Camera, IR Security Camera that can see in the dark and even tiny little pen Security Camera like the Wayne Connection. The wireless protection electronic camera industry has become one of the quickest growing sectors these days since Sept Eleventh. Analogue and IP Security Camera are the two kinds of CCTV Security Camera available currently in the marketplace. And while though analog CCTV Security Camera are still the most widely used kind, the functions and versatility that customers & businesses can gain by using IP CCTV techniques compared to analog are tremendous. Some functions include, Security Camera that run on energy over Ethernet (POE).

What this implies is that the electronic camera can be powered and transfer movie nourish all with one Cat5 wire, rather than running a energy wire and a separate movie wire the way that analog Security Camera do. Another advantage of using IP CCTV Camera is that the quality that can be carried out far exceeds the movie quality that can be provided while using analog technological innovation. IP Security Camera quality is calculated in electronic mp instead of TV Lines (TVL) as traditional analog Security Camera do. What this implies to the customers is a cleaner, cleaner, and more detailed picture than what is obtained with analog. With the release of IP Security Camera there came another method of recoding and saving video taken by CCTV techniques. The Digital Video Camera also known as a DVR is used to take video or movie taken by a wireless protection electronic camera and saving it as the name says, electronically, onto a disk drive.

Now owners can perspective up to a month's worth of video on a DVR without having to change old VHS footage for certain days as was done in the past. IP Security Camera also known as Online Method Security Camera use Network Video Camera to record video which can then be viewed slightly from anywhere that has an online indication. Currently people can even perspective a CCTV nourish via their internet permitted mobile phones, with this feature customers can have more independence and a better sense of protection knowing they can perspective their CCTV program anywhere. But with all the rewards that IP CCTV electronic camera technological innovation can deliver there is a downside; because IP technological innovation is still new to the industry the price of setting up an IP protection program is still significantly higher than going with an Analogue CCTV System. With the rate of how quickly technologies improve in today's age, analog Security Camera are still very able to deliver the advantage, safety, and protection that customers have come to expect at a cheaper than IP.

The undercover industry has even given the persuade that comes with the IP CCTV protection program to analog users by allowing them to also perspective their techniques slightly from any computer or smartphone. In the end there are advantages and disadvantages with either analog or IP techniques, but when it all comes down do it, not every CCTV Camera wireless protection electronic camera body program is the same for every consumer. So using the energy of the globally web, one should look for what form of program is best suited for the program at hand. If not then it could end up priced at more than what is really needed for the situation, and who really wants to pay more something especially something that won't be used.

The CCTV Camera has certainly been able to produce a lot of advertising for itself during the modern times. Many latest styles are starting when it comes to spy and undercover devices. A lot of individuals have actually taken plenty of interest in these CCTV digital cams which are often described as the camera in a lighting style. These CCTV digital cams can be quickly attached onto any lighting style plug because the inside of the CCTV camera is a very innovative low-light grayscale camera.

CCTV Camera Facts:

- The video signal of the CCTV camera is protected and fed immediately to a 110-volt energy line

- Each and every CCTV camera also has a associate decoder that can be connected to even a common home owners TV set

If the current world's situation is concerned, surveillance cameras are installed everywhere. But just installing these cameras makes absolutely no sense. There should be someone who can monitor these cameras effectively. Just think about the situation, while you are out of your premise and your premise is under some kind of threat! The CCTV Camera will definitely capture the whole event but what is purpose of installing a CCTV camera? Simply capturing an event is not enough as because CCTV cameras are installed to provide safety and security and not just for recording the activities.

To catch the suspected person red handed some individuals should monitor the CCTV cameras in a premise. These persons should be trained properly to deal with the situation dynamically. Following situations are evident where monitoring of the CCTVs contributed a lot to check the crime rate.

* Consumption of Drugs Illegally in the Elevator:

Intake of drugs is considered as illegal in India or in many other countries. It is supposed to be a crime when consumption of these products is made inside a closed compartment. Generally in the shopping malls, hotels or in any other crowded place where smoking or drinking is not allowed, people search for areas where authorities can never notice them. Almost on a regular basis, people intake these deadliest products inside the elevator. They are mostly unaware of the hidden CCTV Security Camera, which is regularly monitored by the security guards. Before they even step down from the elevator they are caught by the guards, only because CCTV Camera are monitored otherwise it would not have been possible.

* Cheating in the Examination Hall of the Educational Institutes:

A very common happening in the schooling premises, the mentality of the students to look at other's papers rather than on their own. This peculiar situation can be easily captured by the CCTV security cameras but that will not bring the solution. The solution can be eradicating the problem immediately on seeing the situation. That can be done on monitoring the CCTV cameras. Monitoring these security cameras helps in immediately catching the suspected one. The action in turn can therefore be taken.

* Security Check in the Airport:

During the security check in the airport simply the guard checking is not supposed to be enough. As human beings can never be 100% trustworthy, moreover they can never be that much efficient like the electronic security devices. With the CCTV cameras, each and every minute detail can be captured going on in the premises. Now think, if the CCTV only captures the scene that shows the people are carrying weapons would that had been enough? Unless the CCTV is monitored by someone, the proper action in proper time can never be taken.

The earlier scenes at different premises are the real time events that prove the necessity of monitoring the CCTV at various situations. The ultimate goal to meet the security constraint can only be achieved by tracking the CCTV footage. Through closed circuit television therefore you can reach the utmost security, as it is important "to be secure and keep secure".

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera is widely used in modern times for surveillance. It is used in all countries for security. India is no exception! You may come across CCTV Camera in India in day-to-day life. Besides, its use is increasing. You may find a great future for CCTV in India. CCTVs are here to stay!

CCTV was first designed by the German scientist Walter Brunch in 1942. It was used to monitor the launch of rockets. It, later on, became a part of every rocket launch program. It was used to monitor any technical defects taking place during the launch. United Kingdom (UK) began using the system to monitor public places for crime prevention in 1960s. United States (US) started using the system for crime prevention in public buildings. The use of CCTVs quickly spread to other countries. Largest number of CCTV cameras exists in Europe today. The European Government spends almost two-third of its crime prevention budget in CCTV cameras and Digital Video Recorders (DVRs).

Indian story with regards to CCTV is a bit different. It has not been long since the utilization of CCTV in India gained momentum. Inspiration to use CCTV Camera in India has been derived from other countries. After the attacks on twin tower, the growth of CCTV increased considerably in US. Large-scale use of CCTV in India is mere copying of the measures adopted by other countries to fight terrorism. Despite being the center of focus of jihad based terrorism, market has remained slow to accept CCTV cameras in India, as compared to other countries. The outlook is changing at a fast pace, though!

Back in 2002, CCTV cameras in India were found in schools, kindergartens, supermarkets, and retail stores. Retail stores and supermarkets required them the most to prevent shoplifting. Schools and kindergartens use the system to monitor the activities of children, to prevent bullying, and to prevent juvenile crime. In 2004, a report was published in a leading newspaper; the Delhi police urged the banks in the city to install CCTV to combat bank robbery. By then, CCTV in some Indian Police stations was also set to monitor the activities of Police officers. CCTV in Indian bus depots and railway stations was installed as well to detect pick-pocketing. Airports started using CCTV surveillance since 2002.

Information Technology Act, passed in 2008, has given immense power to the Government in matters of surveillance. Government can monitor any premise, even if it is a blow to privacy, to protect the interests of the common public. CCTV in India will gradually make its way into roads, civic bodies, and other public places. Installation of CCTV cameras in Indian public places may reduce crime and anti-social behavior. Scope for CCTV security cameras in India is huge in the near future!

Outlook towards CCTV in India has changed considerably! Today, the use of CCTV Camera in India is not restricted to highly sensitive areas. Offices, restaurants, and other places of day-to-day life install CCTV Security Camera to monitor the activities going on in the premise. CCTV in India has become a major tool for security.

Fire Alarm System

VAN NUYS — Los Angeles firefighters have a new weapon in their arsenal to battle brush fires: a palm-sized computer that cuts in half the time needed to process brush clearance violations.

LAFD inspectors, however, use the calculator-size computers to collect data on brush clearance violations and notify property owners of their noncompliance.

Some 200,000 violation notices were sent out last year to business and residential property owners in Los Angeles, officials said. Inspectors spent countless hours visiting properties, recording data on paper forms, writing violation summaries, manually entering data into department computers and printing and mailing form letters.

Now, inspectors simply call up a list of properties to be inspected, enter a bar code that includes the assessor's map and page numbers, scan a list of violations and check off all that apply, said LAFD Senior Systems Analyst Jack Shafer, who developed the software program.

The information is then downloaded to a main computer at department headquarters, which prints out letters ready to be mailed to property owners.
"I had purchased a Palm for my own use and I kept getting ads from third parties about software programs that would let you write your own programs," Shafer said. "I asked myself, 'Could I do this for brush clearance?' "

Shafer downloaded a do-it-yourself software program to his personal organizer and wrote a program for brush clearance inspectors. He then showed the program to several Fire Department officials, who helped him refine it.

The entire process, he said, took about four months, which was just in time for brush clearance inspections that began in May.

"The time savings has been phenomenal," said Capt. Paul Quagliata, who commands the brush clearance unit. "It will enable us to complete our inspections in record time. We are doing in a month what usually takes four to five months." (Fire Alarm System)

Annual brush clearance inspections take place between May and July, Quagliata said, in preparation for the fire season.

The 70 miniature computers cost about $500 each--plus another $30 to $40 for straps that allow inspectors to wear them like wristwatches. The units were paid for with money originally earmarked for laptop computers that would have cost about $1,500 apiece, Shafer said.
By using the new devices, the Fire Department is saving the city about $123,000 a year in inspection and data entry costs, Shafer said.

"You can't really quantify how many fires didn't happen, how many people didn't burn," Shafer said. "What we do know is that the system is more efficient."

Shafer said he is currently developing software application programs for the Fire Department's emergency medical services and air operations units.

The most capable UVSS (Under Vehicle Surveillance System) available for detecting Contraband, Drugs, Explosives, and other Objects. if your premises are worth securing, it's worth looking into under vehicle Surveillance Systems (UVSS). our UVSS solutions are designed to scan, monitor, and digitally record crisp, clear digital video images of the entire width of a vehicle's undersides - all with one permanent or portable system. careful integration of components makes the UVSS a cost-effective and convenient solution for checking passenger vehicles, vans, buses, semi tractors, trucks and trailers, and more. it’s an ideal solution for governmental, military, corporate, and transportation facilities - wherever complete vehicle monitoring is required.

UVSS

Advanced imaging and LED illumination provide clear, high resolution video of the vehicle’s underside to help detect attached packages, explosives, and other objects. for monitoring, images are processed by digital video recorder (DVR) capable of recording 4-16 channels simultaneously and then displaying moving images on screen. The UVSS dvr delivers the full picture of a vehicle’s entire width and length for a fraction of the cost of less capable systems.

Unmatched integration flexibility

Each UVSS gives you total flexibility in integrating with your security system. the open architecture means you can connect to your existing CCTV system, can transmit your video over IP, fiber optics, coax, or wireless, and can integrate with automatic License plate recognition and driver image-capture cameras. the system can be configured with motion detection or loop detection so that you only record “live” events.

Vehicle Surveillance System

Seeing is securing in real time

With the UVSS, you can view in Real-time and full color for the entire length of the vehicle. There is no waiting like with line-scan systems and no need for an expensive image-processing computer. See it live with no delay. And it’s just as easy to store images on a DVR to keep a high-resolution record of all vehicles.

Sharp images provide the total picture

High-resolution color cameras give you clear, sharp images. Bright white, high-intensity led-based lighting illuminates the vehicle’s undercarriage so details aren’t lost in shadows. And with the ability to place cameras anywhere along the length of the ramp, wheel wells and other details are easy to capture.

Vehicle Surveillance System

Cameras feature a tough, scratch-proof sapphire lens

Since there are no areas for water to gather, there are no special drainage requirements or special cleaning equipment required. each system is backed with a manufacturer’s unconditional no-questions-asked warranty.

Permanent and portable systems available

The portable version is installed by just laying the ramp in the inspection areas with some traffic cones around it. It comes with a galvanized cable protector to cover and protect the cables that go to the portable monitoring station. Permanent versions can be field installed by one person in less than one hour. There are no pits to dig and no major construction required.

Built rugged for long life0

The heavy-duty, low-profile Galvanized steel ramps have a 48-ton capacity and are designed to withstand harsh environments, rugged terrain, and extreme temperatures. Likewise, cameras and lighting are encased in sturdy, weatherproof housings. Leds offer the most reliable, low-heat light source available, with a typical life of over 100,000 hours. Leds are preferred over halogen lamps because of their significantly longer life and lower heat generation.

UVSS

Under Vehicle Surveillance System, UVSS, Vehicle Security System, Explosoin Detection, Vehicle Tracking System, Vehicle Surveillance, Car Detecting, UVSS Solution, Vehicle Integration

About author:

By KARIMA A.

Although the application of CCTV security have not changed very much over the past years, the tools and equipment have significantly. Cameras became smaller, cheaper and better, but the major breakthrough happened in recording equipment.

Therefore many customers shopping for complete CCTV monitoring and recording systems are confused by such a verity of available products. Goal of this article is to guide buyers toward best possible and most economical type of CCTV equipment, based on intended implementation and requirements.

Selecting the right cameras. It is virtually impossible to describe all types of available ones in this short article. We will focus our attention on most popular and widely used camera types instead.

CCTV produce images using CMOS or CCD (Charge Couple Device) chips. Tiny, very low price CCTV cameras usually use CMOS technology, produce poor quality images and have very poor light sensitivity. Decent quality CCTV cameras use CCD technology. The size of the CCD chip is normally 1/4", 1/3" or 1/2". As a rule of thumb, the larger the size, the higher the quality of the image produced and the higher the price. However, higher density 1/4" and 1/3" CCD chips can now produce as good an image as many 1/3" or 1/2" chips.

The number of TV lines in the security camera image is a measure of picture resolution (sharpness). The larger the number of TV lines, the better the resolution and hence, overall picture quality. Standard resolution camera may have 350-380 lines, over 400 TV Lines is generally considered good resolution while over 500 TV lines is considered high resolution. B/W chip cameras produce greater resolution and better light sensitivity, therefore suitable for use in dark areas where light conditions are poor most of the time.

On the other hand color cameras offer more realistic and natural picture. CCTV cameras

Professional grade cameras.

Have box type body with the ability to use different types and size of lenses. Exchangeable lenses enable this camera, to monitor objects from virtually any distance. Although for indoor use, they can be used for outdoor when combined with weatherproof housing. They are considered to be the most flexible and widely used by professionals for commercial installations.

Bullet cameras.

Bullet cameras are, as the name suggest contained inside bullet shaped housing.

Most bullet cameras are weatherproof and sealed without the ability to use different lenses. Great advantage of bullet camera is the small size and integrated design, some bullet cameras will even have infrared LED future built-in. simply LED light in infrared spectrum (not visible to human eye). This light will illuminate viewing area, making possible monitoring in complete darkness. This is great future, but it only works up to certain distance (usually between 10 and 50 ft. depending on model) Vary simple to install and estheticly designed, bullet cameras are great choice for residential and do-it-yourself installations where monitoring objects are within about 25ft from the camera location (with standard 3.6mm lens).

Board Cameras.

Board Cameras are basically fixed lens mounted on a circuit board. These cameras may be packaged in a small case (Mini Cameras) or dome (Mini Dome) or simply sold unpackaged, for mounting by the purchaser. Lenses in these are either of a normal industry aperture or a "pinhole" lens of very small aperture. Pinhole lens cameras are often called "spy" cameras and may be mounted in a concealed way for covert surveillance purposes. The most popular examples of covert board ones are smoke detector and motion detector cameras.

Since the lenses in board cameras are pre-mounted, have a fixed iris and are usually of a short focal length (i.e. wide angle), their flexibility of usefulness is limited. However, this type of camera can provide a low cost solution in the right situation, particularly in a home environment. We have shortly described most popular types of cameras, lets now discus, how and where they mite be used.

Professional types with C/CS mount lens attachment generally offer best performance and many important futures, like lens control output, Back Light Compensation and many more...

Distance from monitoring object to the camera is not an issue, that is why ability to select different lenses, based on location is so important. Installation is bit complicated and professional installation strongly recommended. We recommend this type of security cameras for commercial installations.

Most Bullet cameras in comparison, do not offer high resolution and lens selection flexibility, but are likely to be weatherproof, some will have infrared light built-in and most of all they are relatively easy to implement. They usually come with 3.6mm lens witch are considered to be suitable for most standard installations (good for covering small to medium size room or equivalent).

For larger rooms or longer distances, cameras with 6mm or higher lens may be required. They are great choice for any do-it-yourself installation.

Board cameras in contrast are widely used in covert camera installations, sometimes called Spy Cameras. Many are basically board ones with built-in transmitter. We are not going to go into wireless cameras right now, as this would be enough material for completely new article.

Board cameras are sold as plain circuit board, for integrating into hidden camera devices. They are also available in dome housing, as vary popular Dome Camera or integrated with Smoke Detector, Motion Detector, Exit Sign and so on. Most also come with 3.6mm lens although some will allow lens to be replaced.

Over the time, most practical design has been Dome Camera with its aesthetic appearance it blends into surroundings, especially with drop down sealing, great for use in stores, lobbies, gas stations and other public places. Practical solution for covert installation are also, Motion and Smoke Detector cameras, they are absolutely not substitute for your security alarm or fire protection. They should always be selected based on the location of the camera (inside/outside), distance from the monitoring object, light condition and budget.

When shopping for security cameras, customers are faced with the fact that they will need to select one or another recording device.

The days of well-known CCTV time-lapse recorder are almost over.

Although some customers still prefer this old fashioned recording solution, it is well worth to invest some extra money to purchase a good quality digital video recorder (DVR). Digital recorder transfers analog camera video feed into format, and stores it on hard drive. There are two major types of digital recorders on the market right now.

PC Based Systems.

A special board and software installed on the computer will allow camera inputs and store video on the hard drive.

Many people are under the misconception that personal computer with additional hardware installed, will do the job. This explains the hundreds of companies that have hung up a sign, taken out some ads and begun working out of basements and garages, holding themselves out to be DVR manufacturers and security specialists. The main problem with this type of CCTV recorders lies in the main component of it... Yes, it is a computer, designed to do unlimited tasks, but non well. The truth is that any computer based digital video recorder is, and will always be vulnerable to software crashes, hang-ups, system instability, virus related problems etc...

Stand Alone Systems.

Very similar in appearance and control functions to standard VCR recorders, are truly remarkable devices. Most video processing is done by hardware, therefore eliminating system crashes, video is also stored on hard drive in digital format. The basic operating system, usually Linux, is permanently stored on special processor, witch is impossible to overwrite or corrupt. Designed and manufactured with single application in mind, it is by far better in performance and reliability to its PC based rival.

Some DVR systems will even have remote monitoring capability, useful when monitoring is required in different locations through Internet or network. Most important futures to look for when selecting the right DVR recorder are motion detection and frame speed. The higher the frame speed the more fluent video recording. Motion detection will allow recording video from each camera only when motion is detected; this is great for extending video recording time.

Security Monitors.

Video from Security recorder could be displayed on regular TV monitor. It is OK to do it this way, for baby monitoring or residential application, when quality of the picture is not that important. However for professional installation, security monitors are as much important as cameras. They offer extended life of picture tube (necessary with any static picture, that can cause picture burnout) and much grater resolution.

Cables and wiring.

Finally any camera installation will require proper wiring. Good quality cable will prevent video degradation over long distance runs. It is recommended to use RG59 or RG6 coaxial cables as it is fully shielded and will prevent video loss up to 400 ft. Coaxial cables will require BNC connectors and proper installation possibly done by experienced technician. In short runs plug and play non-coaxial cables with factory installed BNC connectors may be used (up to 150 ft.). The plug and play cables are easy enough to install by not experienced users.

Cables for CCTV Cameras consist of two cables bundled in one jacket. One cable for video and one for power delivery.

Conclusion.

Every CCTV System is as good and reliable as its weakest component. With this in mind, investing on highest quality and performance cameras, while purchasing low performance recorder, from economical and practical standpoint just does not make sense.

For example, why use CCTV Cameras with 500 TV lines of resolution with monitor that offers only 380 or less. All the benefit of high-resolution camera is affectively sacrificed by limited capability of monitor. Asking questions is important before purchasing video security systemFree Articles, and your vendor will probably be able to give more details and recommend equipment for specific needs and requirements.

Source: Free Articles from ArticlesFactory.com

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Robert Moskal is Technical Department Manager at V2Comp, Inc., a major distributor of CCTV cameras and other surveillance equipment located in Chicago area.

As part of the fire risk assessment it is important for businesses to identify what to do in the event of a fire. Common sense and discretion should be used on the discovery of a fire. If the fire is very small, and one is confident that it can easily be extinguished, the nearest appropriate fire extinguisher should be used. If this action has no immediate effect on the fire the fire alarm should be operated to inform fellow colleagues and personnel within the workplace.

In premises not provided with an electrical alarm the warning should be by word of mouth, "FIRE", or by operating the manual break glass call points. In general the fire alarm should be sounded prior to the fire being tackled. All staff should be shown the "Break the Glass call point" in the vicinity of where they work.

If calling the fire service or reporting a fire locally the following information should be gathered where possible:

1. The exact location of the fire;
2. The location of any trapped persons;
3. The type of fire ie the type of fuel involved;
4. Report any hazardous substances that may be involved, such as the following - toxic or explosive chemicals, any radioactive substances, any gas cylinders

The Fire Service should be called directly by dialling 999 and all the relevant information should be passed on to the fire service control. Remember the Fire Service Control may not be familiar with the topography of the area. It is therefore essential that the correct postal address of the premises is given. It may be conducive to provide a conspicuous notice adjacent to the telephone which may be used for calling the Brigade. Such a notice should include the correct postal address. All staff should be told the system of reporting a fire that is relevant to them. Only after the alarm has been raised and the Fire Service informed should the fire be tackled. In practice the fire may be discovered by more than one person and the above action can be carried out simultaneously.

If your efforts to tackle the fire has no effect or the fire is too large for first-aid fire fighting then evacuate the building immediately by using the shortest possible route closing the door to the effected room behind you.

After evacuation report to the pre-determined assembly point and await further instructions. An individual should meet with the fire officer when he or she arrives and pass on any relevant informaton, this would include the possible location of the fire as well as whether everyone is out of the building. This information is vitally important and will ensure that the Fire Service have as much information as possible to enable them to put a plan of action in place. If you have a plan drawing of the premises then this would also prove very useful and would save valuable time.

On occasion the fire may not be visible from outside the building and some people may wish to re-enter the building to collect their belongings or to shelter from the adverse elements. It may be that the fire is in a Hotel at three 'o' clock in the morning on a cold Winter 's night, if this were the case then guests would want to return to their rooms as soon as possible, it is imperetive that people are only allowed back into the building once the fire service have completed their actions in identifying the location of the fire and making it safe for individuals to return. The fire officer will inform the business manager of when it is safe to do so.

Following the conclusion of the incident the fire officer will carryout an investigation into the most probable cause, it is likely that at this stage the very first thing they will ask to see is your completed fire risk assessment, to identify what fire hazards you had recorded within it and the various preventative measures you had considered to prevent a fire occuring at your workplace. Insurance companies are incresingly asking to see fire risk assessments when purchasing insurance and certainly following a fire in the workplace, not to have completed a fire risk assessment at your business may compromise yor insurance policy

One of the most common causes of fire within business premises is poor management. Fire Safety is often overlooked by businesses as people believe it, "will never happen to them" don't fall into the same trap, as statistics show, that along with the heartache of serious injuries to people, two thirds of businesses never recover from a serious fire. Make the appropriate provisions now by putting your management systems in place to protect your people and your livelihood.

About the author :
Freddy has been a regular author on topics concerning business fire safety consultancy. Of prime importance is to have a regular fire risk assessment to ensure hazards are kept to a minimum. The duty of a regular fire risk assessment lies firmly in the hands of the 'responsible person'. It is this person 's job to ensure and manage any fire risks that may be present, either in a business or residential premises. Part of their work is to ensure that effective fire risk assessment procedures are put in place.

But how does this 'responsible person' carry out a fire risk assessment? What processes are involved to ensure resident 's or worker 's safety in the prevention and reaction to a fire?

The first step in any fire risk assessment is to identify the hazards that may be present in either a workplace or residential location. There are many hazards to contemplate when conducting a fire risk assessment. It must be understood that almost anything can start a fire, whether this is a naked flame, a heater or even a hair dryer. Understanding the risk posed by such items is fundamental in the assessment, added to this; in the business workplace there may be machinery and equipment that could cause problems.

The second ingredient of fire is any combustible material. Most materials present in either the home or the workplace are flammable in some way. In the workplace, a pile of waste may be just the right material to feed a blaze whereas in the home, soft furnishings are an especially vulnerable material to fire. Recognising the risks that these materials pose is a vital element in reducing the risk of fire; naturally, if the fire has no material to feed off, it will not spread as quickly, greatly improving safety.

The final component of any fire is oxygen. Without oxygen there is no way that a fire can even ignite, let alone spread. For fire risk assessors, the job of keeping oxygen levels under control is understandably difficult as it surrounds us at all times. An assessment should predominantly focus upon the other two ingredients of fire unless the workplace or location has stocks of pressurised oxygen which may in effect intensify a blaze.

The second stage of a fire risk assessment is to recognise the risks not only of the fire itself, but which people will be most vulnerable if a fire does break out. These people can vary greatly in the risks they may encounter as well as the speed of their exit. Of especial importance are those who work with combustible materials or work alone in areas that may be prone to fire. An assessment should also include the numbers of vulnerable people such as young children, the disable or elderly.

While the fire risk assessment is carried out to evaluate the risk of fire, it should also put in place measures to reduce this risk. An assessor should be able to give advice on ways in which to remove flammable materials, or replace them with less flammable materials. They should also be able to advise on the best ways to keep ignition sources away from combustibles. This is all part of fire safety management.

Providing practical advice to workers or residents is also part of the assessor 's responsibilities. Education, on the risks and how to prevent fires breaking out can be invaluable. As regulations become increasingly stringent on ways to make our workplaces and residential areas safer, it is through efficient fire risk assessment procedures that a spearhead of fire safety can be launched.

About the author :
Safety expert Thomas Pretty looks into the increasing importance of an efficient fire risk assessment as part of compliance with regulations.

A fire pit can add dimension and value to your home.
Fire pits are very nice in the winter as well as the summer.

There are kits available that allow you to simply put one together and away you
go. However, I find that learning how to make an outdoor fire pit is the most
cost effective way to go.

The first thing you want to do is consider what you want the fire pit to look
like. Think about color, height, width, location and material needed.

You want to be away from any structures or things that could catch fire for
obvious reasons, so location is the first thing to decide on. For material,
most rock or do-it-yourself cement should suffice.

As these things go, always check with your local authorities for ordinances and
regulations regarding fire pits in your area concerning where they can be
placed and how big they can be. You want to be within the law with this. If you
need building permits or neighbors
permission, get it so you are in line and legal so you dont run into problems later on.

With that out of the way, you can map out your location and begin. Here is an
idea for a basic, in-ground fire pit that is approximately 24 inside diameter and 10
deep.

What You Need

You will need 2 or 3 bags of quick drying cement like Sakrete or the like,
enough firebrick or stone to line it with, some quick mortar, a trowel, a 2x4
piece of lumber, a small piece of dowel wood, a can of spray paint (any color
will do), some regular gravel and some string.

1) First, find the center of your fire pits
location and mark it with the dowel wood. Now attach a 12 piece of string to the dowel with a can of spray paint
at the end. Using the string as a guide, paint a 24 circle. Then do the same thing with a piece of string
24 long.

2) Dig out between the paint lines 10
deep and you have a trench that is 48
in diameter at the largest point with a trench that measures 12 wide by 10
deep all around. This is your base.

3) Now add the gravel to the trench and tamp it down so its firm. Then mix your cement and fill the trench to the
top all the way around. Level this off with the 2x4 and smooth out with the
trowel. Allow to set for at least two days, possibly up to a week so it has
cured properly.

4) You will dig out the inside of the pit to so it is 2 to 3 higher than the sides, which will 7 or 8 and lay some more gravel in the bottom.

5) Then mix up your mortar and lay the firebrick so the bottom is completely
covered. You may want to lay a second layer of brick. Thats up to you entirely.

6) Allow the mortar to dry for a couple of days and you have an in-ground fire
pit ready to go.

This is only one style among many, so look around and see what you want and go
for it!

Fire prevention can help to reduce the likelihood of a fire occurring, but not eliminate the chance of fire altogether so knowing how to fight a fire safely is essential to stop it getting out of control.

But, and an important but, it is also imperative you know when to fight a fire, as some fires are beyond your control and the best course of action for your safety and others is to evacuate the area as quickly as possible.

To make sure that you have the best chance of escaping a fire and possibly stopping it from getting out of control, here are some top fire fighting tips for home and work.

First Things First

Whether you are going to tackle the fire or not, call the Fire Service as it is easy to forget once you jump into action.

In the UK, the phone numbers 999, 911 (USA) and 112 (Europe) are all programmed to send you to the emergency services.

Fight Or Don't Fight?

If a fire has broken out, you need to decide fairly quickly if you are capable of fighting it or not. If the fire is small and looks to be contained then you can tackle it, providing you have the right fire extinguisher to hand. However, if the fire looks to be spreading get out of the room as quickly as possible, as a fire like this can double in size in just a few minutes.

Never, ever tackle a fire unless you believe you can put it out without risk to yourself, and should the fire spread you can still easily escape from the area unharmed.

Although you might want to try and be a hero, your life and those around you is more important than protecting your possessions from damage.

If You Do Fight The Fire

If you do decide to fight the fire, make sure you do so quickly to avoid the fire growing. Make sure you already know how to use the fire extinguisher, as there will not be time to work out how to use it whilst the fire rages. And make sure you have the right type of extinguisher for the fire, as using the wrong type could make things much worse.

Keep your exit free and at your back so you can escape easily, and if possible have someone nearby to call for help if things get out of hand. This will allow you to deal with the fire safely and effectively, as well as helping you to avoid injury.

Some Fires Should Not Be Fought

Whilst you might want to save your possessions, you need to realise that some fires are beyond your ability to control.

If the fire is spreading quickly or you do not know what is burning, then you need to evacuate immediately. Failing to do so could make things worse and could put your life or the lives of others in danger whilst you try to tackle a fire beyond your control.

Never risk your life to put out a fire, but rather concentrate on getting yourself out of the building to safety.

Different Fire Fighting Tools

Although fire extinguishers are the main fire fighting tool, there are other items that you can use to help you stop a fire. Fire blankets can be useful for small contained fires, as long as you can get close enough to apply the blanket. The blanket will stop oxygen from reaching the fire and put it out quickly.

A hose reel will be a big help but you need to be able to run it all the way to the fire without getting in the way of exits and people and without getting stuck.

You also need to know if it is automatic - it will turn the water flow on without a tap but you still need to twist the nozzle - or manual - you will need to turn the tap by the reel and twist the nozzle.
However, fire extinguishers are still the most effective method of putting out a fire, as long as the right extinguisher is used for the particular fire. A water-based extinguisher can also be used to damp down "hot spots" to ensure a fire will not re-ignite.

Fighting fires can be done safely and can prevent damage to property and possessions. However, the most important fire fighting tip is to only fight the fire if you are in a position where you can still escape.
If there is any doubt, any at all, get out of the premises immediately and stay out. Leave the hero stuff to the professional fire fighters.

If you are looking for a key to Crime Prevention it 's in electronic access control systems. Our modern society is a world of locks and keys. Home security, office security, apartments, and office space - the list goes on, but what 's known for certain comprehensive key management is the weak link.

Almost every person in modern day society will be packing a keychain that 's got more than just one or two keys. House keys, garage keys, office keys, and car keys are rattling around the bottom of our pockets and in our purses.

Although we feel safe, it 's a false security that leads too often to lost and stolen keys, which is another weakness in our modern security. The bottom line is keys really are not a secure way of keeping things safe and secure.

Each year hundreds of thousands of dollars are spent to re-key buildings because a set of keys was lost or an employee was let go and did not return their keys.

Worse yet, have you ever stopped to wonder just how many master keys have been issued for your building? Can you confidently state that there have been no keys copied by employees that may not be quite as ethical as you? Does your building have employees coming and going at strange hours? Is your building ever left unlocked? There are so many things that can happen that can jeopardize your building 's security.

Perhaps the time has come for the installation of electronic access control systems. In fact, if you want true security and real peace of mind there is no other opportunity.

It 's time to take back the keys and take back your power for security. An electronic access control system will let you take back that power. The capabilities of electronic access control systems can vary a great deal. They can be a single door with a stand-alone system, which lets you enter the door with a keypad, to large systems that use thousands of card readers.

There are some basic things that all electronic access control systems have in common. All of them control who goes where within a company by requiring the insertion of the card in the card reader or by use of a keypad. At any given moment access can be changed or completely denied to one or many employees.

There are a handful of manufacturers that provide a one to four door keypad solution and some of the top end burglar alarm systems also have the ability to control up to four doors. Some will offer access based on one individual while others may be able to allow access based on more than one person entering.

Low to mid price range PC solutions can provide control for up to thirty-two doors and for thousands of individual users perfect if you are looking for keyless entry. Most of these are Windows based systems. Some in this range may have the ability for monitored alarms but you will likely have to step up a bit in price range.

You might find yourself having to move up into the next price range if you require a highly sophisticated system. Be sure to consult with your security specialist.

Electronic access control systems are the locking system of the future. Why not get ahead of the rush and get peace of mind.

Imagine yourself reviewing yesterday's activities and recording the present at the same time. This is what happens when you're using DVR software for your video surveillance. Read on to find out what's in store for you when you use the software.

Is It Time to Update Your Security System?

Okay, you have a surveillance camera, but then how do you get the most out of it? You don't simply have it screwed to the ceiling or at the door. You will need the equipment to make your business/home watch the best there is in the neighborhood, surveillance wise. If you are deciding to upgrade your existing video recording of images captured by your surveillance cameras, check out the hottest thing to hit town - DVR software.

A DVR software will absolutely change the way you look at video surveillance and recording. It's time to make a big switch if you have frequently:

* Experienced irritation because you have to stop your surveillance recording just so you could review yesterday's footage.

* Worried about your loved ones at home or the cash register at the bar because you cannot be there to keep an eye on everything.

* Fumed and raged because you cannot store your files of footages just in case you will need them.

How Does the Software Work?

Contrary to your anticipation that the DVR software would be too complex to handle, it is easy to use. With the recording software, you can monitor live images from one to a network of 16 security cameras in one computer screen in just a few seconds.

This convenience saves you the time, because you can playback more than one recording since the recordings are stored in the hard disc of your computer. You also have the option of selecting motion detection for the recording - saves you hard disc space. To prevent unauthorized access to your system, you can have it username and password-protected.

The software, used with IP cameras enables you to upload or export live audio and video feed to the other computers in the security system. Other features include:

* Email notifications via the Internet or cell phones.
* A single software can work for a system.
* Allows control of your camera.
* Records in standard PC format.
* Intelligent interface.
* Automated tasks.
* All images are time-date stamped.
* Use zoom in and zoom out camera function.

What It All Adds Up To

A DVR software allows a stealth mode function, which won't alert your staff that they are being watched while at work. You can rest easy knowing everybody is performing up to par and not lounging around when you're away. Want to pan or tilt the camera even if you're miles away? You can do just that, as long as you have the software in your PC. Do you want a print of a selected image? That can be done too real fast. What makes the software cost-effective is its compatibility with a majority of security camera brands. You do not have to buy a new security camera and hardware just because you are installing the software.

The easy installation of the DVR software can be done in a few minutes. You don't have to spend for computer engineers to set up the software. With all the advantages you get, surveillance becomes easy.

About the author : A DVR software will boost the efficiency of your surveillance camera and CCTV camera.

Maintaining your home security doesn't have to be a full-time objective. However it is still very important to plan ahead to insure that any loophole is addressed from the onset rather than discovered later when it potentially too late.
The benefits of having a well designed out security system will also have an effect on your indemnity claims. For example you can have discounted premiums on your insurance if you have certain security functions including CCTV or sentry alarm systems. But before we get into the details lets start with the fundamentals.
You want make sure that you follow some common sense rules and precautions such as making sure your doors are always locked- your doors and also garages and sheds if you have any. This is especially true if you are going on vacation and will not be around your home for an extended period of time.
Reports have shown that most of the burglaries that happen tend to do so when there are no people at home therefore it is advisable to add some of these very simple measures to make it look like there's someone home all the time.
The simplest thing to do is to create one of the scheduled timers to turn on your light at regularly scheduled intervals or custom times that you desire. You could also have other things turned on such as your radio, Television set or any other hardware and electronics device to give an external appearance of there being someone at home watching the fort, as it were.
And another asset to your security measures will simply be to let your neighbors and your friends know that you will be away or out of town for a while.
In the worst-case scenario when after all your plans fall through and still in a burglary in your home, the first thing you want to do is to make contact with the police and your insurance company as soon as possible to see what the next steps are.
When dealing with a security camera system, never forget to leave the "system" out of the equation. It is far more than just physical or electronic tools that will keep you and your family safest at any time.
The technology in video surveillance equipment is used in many ways for the advantage of society as a whole. The technology is used to investigate, among other things, the workload amongst pilots and air-traffic controllers, assessment of driver reactions to warning devices at railroad crossings, and studies of the performance of sleep-deprived locomotive engineers, just to name a few. The equipment includes video cameras, digital video recorders, digital video cameras, and CCTV [closed circuit TV] video cameras.
Events such as the 9-11 terrorist attack in the United States of America and the ever present threat of more terror attacks has resulted in video surveillance equipment becoming more popular than any time before.
This equipment and technology is used in various different portions of society including government agencies, security agencies, companies and businesses, schools, and public and private transportation vehicles.
Video surveillance apparatus is also a welcomed technology in places where around the clock human supervision is needed but not viable. As an example, the New York City Transit system [including the subway, tunnel and bridge authorities] uses video surveillance equipment for monitoring below ground traffic and stations.
There are many components to video surveillance equipment technology such as cameras, software, digital image cameras, infrared sensors, monitors and so on.
Surveillance technology has become an invaluable apparatus for business when it is correctly used. It can lessen the liability and workers' compensation premiums. It can help identify fraudulent insurance claims, and may help in the deterrence and apprehension of dishonest workers and customers. Present-day technology by the way of computer networks and the Internet additionally provides the capability to observe a business concern remotely from home or other locations.
There are many varieties of cameras and digital video recorders made for a variety of applications. Examples of these are entrance and exit cameras, cash register and counter cameras, internal cameras, outdoor cameras, etc. along with digital video recorders [DVRs] and [VCRs] are the main components of a digital video surveillance system.
Prices for the equipment standard for a four camera digital video recording system for a small retail or office type business can cost at least several thousands of dollars plus the cost of labor of installation. As you might expect medium, large and project level businesses will need to spend proportionately more to satisfy their individual security requirements.
Whatever expenses incurred in buying video surveillance equipment merits the effort and expense. This is because this technology not only reduces the cost of security but also helps in curbing crime and vandalism. There are very few companies, which do not use video surveillance equipment for some purpose or the other. Total sales in video surveillance technology are on the increase. They will continue to do so due to the effectiveness and versatility of this technology.

About the author :Bill Wallmuller

Whether it is referred to as “no dig” or “trenchless technology,” one way or another I’m sure you have heard about this revolutionary field in sewer/pipe inspection, rehabilitation, and cleaning. Trenchless technology removes the need for surface excavation, reduces underground construction costs, and also minimizes environmental damage.

One of the biggest advantages, for residents in the areas where services need to be performed on a pipeline, is that you eliminate the problems associated with digging in such a high traffic area. Trenchless technology makes it possible not to dig up the road and make the area more congested than it already is.

RedZone Robotics (a Pittsburgh-based company specializing in trenchless technology), has made developments in robotic sewer inspection. The use of robotics in sewer inspection creates measurable data for agencies to provide a better understanding of the current systems. Robotic sewer inspection prepares you for when a break could occur, where there is a crack or a leak, and also with high resolution images of the pipe. And it can all be done while the pipe is in service.

Laser scanning is also possible with many trenchless robots (like RedZone). Laser scanning creates a 3-dimensional model of the pipe’s environment – which in turn provides you with measurable results and visualization of features that are not visible with traditional CCTV pipe inspection.

Today’s trenchless technology also allows for gas monitoring and Hydrogen Sulfide measurement. Measuring gas levels helps to highlight significant variations in levels or presence of undesirable gases, allowing rehabilitation efforts to be directed to the most appropriate areas.

About the author :Taylor Pratt

By the end of this year, China wants to issue for its citizens about a billion such identity cards. American passports issued after Oct. 6, 2006 are also equipped with RFID tags. The embedded data (including digital photograph) can be read even over a distance of 20m.

Civil liberties campaigners have criticized the test of anti-theft system based on tiny RFID chips at Tesco store in Cambridge. Anyone picking up Gillette Mach3 razor blades at the store triggered CCTV camera and had his or her picture taken. The second one was taken at the checkout, to compare the pictures of the customer.

Expansion of RFID technology. RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) systems enable data to be transmitted by mobile devices, called tags, that are read by RFID readers. The data is then processed according to the needs of a particular application. There are used several typical frequency ranges: 125 - 134 kHz (LF), 13.56 MHz (HF), and the most popular - 865-952 MHz (UHF) and 2.4 GHz (microwave).
The application areas include transport, supply-chain management, identification of people and animals.
As mentioned, an RFID system consists of identifiers (tags), reader/s and managing (host) computer. There are used two kinds of tags: active and passive. The first ones have to be powered by a battery etc., the second - take the energy needed for operation directly from the reader (as the part of electromagnetic energy emitted by its antenna).

About the author :Michal Lepiarz

Low vision aids come in all shapes and sizes and serve a multitude of different purposes. A one-size-fits-all approach just won't do when it comes to choosing these devices, especially when you consider that a very wide range of eye problems can cause low vision.
Age-related muscular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, cataracts, head trauma and stroke can all result in reduced visual acuity, reduced contrast sensitivity and glare sensitivity. It should be remembered that these eye conditions often involve impaired color vision, and that the majority of sufferers are over 60.
This is why many of the more high-tech low vision aids now coming on to the market offer customized viewing nodes (magnifiers, for example, which allow material to be viewed in black and white, blue and yellow or black and yellow) or adjustable image brightness.
Customization need not always be high-tech, however. It can be as simple as fitting a magnifier with a flexible, adjustable arm so obviating the need to look upward at an uncomfortable angle. The tilting screen of a video magnifier or simply a stand magnifier can make for greatly increased ease of viewing when arthritis is as much of a problem as low vision.
Of course, not everyone requires a high-tech solution to their eye problems. Various small, hand-held magnifiers are available from your local drug store which can often be of some assistance in the early stages of failing eyesight.
With hand magnifiers it is usually the case that practice makes perfect. Often a bit of a struggle at the outset, best results can be achieved by holding these low vision aids straight. Your eye, the magnifier and the particular material you're looking at should all be exactly aligned. Distortion will result from tilting the magnifier.
If you use a stand magnifier, keep the magnifier on the paper and break yourself of the habit of raising the magnifier to your eyes. Again, distortion of the material and the need to constantly refocus, will tire even more aging eyes with a low vision problem.
A professional consultation should be sought, though, if and when they prove to be less helpful in reading and writing. Specialists in low vision will assess the degree of your visual impairment. They might prescribe special lenses which incorporate a miniature telescopic unit. These will enable you to resolve fine details through the telescope while using the regular lens for peripheral vision.
Or, perhaps, they will show you precisely the type of lighting you need to use in order to maximize the vision that remains. Reading lamps are now available which filter out damaging, blue light radiation and deliver optimal contrast for sufferers of low vision.
When greater magnification is needed, the newest low vision aids offer features which will give you a true independence in carrying out daily tasks. Many combine portability with choice of viewing modes to suit your individual needs.
One of the more popular high-tech aids is the video magnifier or closed circuit television. Free-standing units consist of a stand-mounted video camera which projects magnified images on to a video screen. They are very useful for reading and writing, as well as doing craft work. For many people, with hobbies requiring intricate, close-up work, this is a quality of life issue.
However, CCTVs, which are portable, provide you with the greatest flexibility of all. Advances have been made on the older type of portable video magnifiers. These could be plugged into a television, and by rolling a device about the size of a computer mouse across the reading material, you would see a magnified image appear on the TV.
Today, truly portable CCTVs are now being designed where a similar mouse-like device is used, but no TV is needed to view the magnified image. Instead it appears in a pair of goggles you wear.
More convenient still if you're out and about, the wonders of miniaturization have made it possible to develop a new generation of very small, light-weight video magnifiers. These are ideal for letting you read grocery labels, restaurant menus and receipts. Some also come complete with a folding writing stand which will allow you to write as well.
For distance viewing, portable telescopic devices allow you to follow the game better at sporting events or to watch a theatre production. These aids carry many features which promote ease of use – low light compensation, high levels of magnification and contrast enhancement, for example.
Many people, though, prefer to use another sense for reading: their hearing. They use reading machines (scanners with voice output) to transform written material into the spoken word. For avid readers, and those who want the ultimate in comfort, these low vision aids offer an ideal solution to their low vision problems. Hooked up to a computer, and using specially-designed software, your PC can instantly be turned into a "reading machine".
Unfortunately, whatever you choose, you will not be able to turn back the clock. Low vision aids will not replace vision that has already deteriorated or been lost. Fortunately, however, we live in a world where new devices are being designed all the time enabling us all to optimise the vision we have left and enjoy life to the full.

If you have a business with a store or a warehouse, you will be interested in detecting and preventing theft. This is the reason why you should be taking advantage of loss prevention equipment, which comes in numerous forms and can be very practical. Although this can be costly at first, it will certainly pay off in the long run if you consider how much your business could save.

You might be running a business and burglaries are not too uncommon, so you have lost money as a result. Or you might not even be badly affected by crime, however your current admin system is not able to detect and account for the occasions when it occurs. So, the best solution would be to purchase loss prevention equipment, which will ensure that your profit and assets stays safe.

In the last few years the development of loss prevention systems has moved forward dramatically. The cheapest systems merely involve convex mirrors, which can work in a shop, but there are several others that are more complicated and are equally more expensive.

CCTVs are very successful in both preventing and discovering theft. Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) systems directly provide images to a limited numbers of screens from which they can be monitored. These are the cameras that you can find in many public spaces such as airports, banks and even highways.

A more expensive but effective piece of loss prevention equipment is an access control system. You decide who has access to valuable resources and you can then monitor this accordingly. This type of system cannot be used effectively in shops but can be very useful in warehouses for example.

If you have a shop and you want to prevent theft, one way to do this is by installing cash register interfacing. This surveillance system stores data in the form of receipts as well as in other forms, allowing you to easily detect if you are dealing with shop lifters in the form of employees or customers. Even the idea that your property is under permanent surveillance can prevent shoplifters from taking things without paying. That is why many choose to actively promote that they have security systems in place.

Another good way to prevent theft in a store is to use security tags and gates. Security tags may be placed on each product and it will be neutralized when paying for the product. If the items were not paid for, these tags will automatically beep when leaving the store, allowing security or the police to be noticed immediately.

Digital recorders or Time Lapse VCRs are among the newest trends in loss prevention technology. They offer clear footage and images from the area you want to keep under surveillance, and are a real breakthrough in protecting business assets.

Counterfeit money detectors are also great tools in preventing the usage of counterfeit money. The most efficient of such detectors are the electronic devices, which can also identify false checks, false credit cards and even false IDs. Whatever means you are using to protect your business, it is likely you will get your money back time and time again from the loss you will have prevented.

About the author : Anna Woodward

Small businesses are defined as mainly those that employ a smaller number of people. However, this can be deceptive as the term 'small' or 'less' are relative. Therefore, in the United States of America, for instance, a small business is one in which there are less than one hundred employees whereas in the European Union, a small business is characterised by a number of employees smaller than fifty. In certain cases other factors also define a smaller business enterprise such as profit margin, capital investment, etc. Thus, small businesses are also those which have smaller spending powers. Therefore, such business concerns have a reduced budget when it comes to buying security gadgets. There are various cheaper appliances which are ideal for putting together a security system for smaller business concerns. The following are a few examples:

Wireless Cameras

These are the latest gadgets today as far as security is concerned. Unlike a burglar or security alarm, the wireless camera records all the proceedings and is therefore of some use during the police investigations. A wireless camera is also of use during surveillance as a person sitting inside the building can see what is going on outside the building with the help of this gadget. The camera also records sound as well recording video footage. With the help of wireless cameras, you can monitor all the visitors, employees and other persons coming inside the building and therefore the likelihood of intercepting a criminal and preventing the crime increases.

Security Lighting

Adequate lighting in any place discourages intruders. Thus installing bright lights around your business office may be a cheap and effective solution to all your security problems and needs. Certain scientific studies show that lighting reduces crime or at least discourages criminals and intruders. For well lit outer spaces one can employ large, bright and powerful search lights as well as flood lights which are used in sporting events under poor natural light conditions.

Burglar Alarms

Any kind of alarm is a device which, by producing a loud noise, warns people that something is amiss. Use of alarms is universal in high security places such as prisons and other government buildings. There are sensors in an alarm which are programmed to trigger off a warning when there is some unwanted, unauthorized intrusion or breaking in.

A burglar alarm, as the name suggests, is something exactly designed to help prevent unauthorized entry into buildings or office premises. A burglar alarm is also known as a security alarm. These alarms are available in many makes and models—from the latest wireless alarms (which operate with the help of radio waves) to the more conventional wired alarms. The price range varies considerably with the number of amenities. This is ideal for a small business solution since such an enterprise cannot afford to employ many guards. The alarm will warn anyone within the premise of criminal activity and then the necessary action can be taken

CCTV

CCTV is the acronym for closed circuit television. Such a surveillance system is very useful since all activity in different parts of a building or office can be kept under tab by one person sitting in front of the single monitor which can filter the feeds from various hidden cameras placed in different locations.

About the author :rajan mr

Own Mail Server? Own Www Server? it is Possible Even in your Home

What is DDNS?

If we wish to run a server for website hosting or accessing CCTV cameras, available from any Internet location - and we don't have a static IP address but a dynamic one supplied by DHCP server (e.g. ADSL service) - we have to use DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name System). DDNS server provides a database containing relations between domain names and numeric addresses, which may be updated on request, by the domain owner. Thanks to this feature, the server is available in the domain name regardless its current IP address. We have to remember that when DHCP server changes the IP, it takes some time to detect this change by the client software or router. Then, after the notification has been sent to DDNS server, it takes another minute or so to send this piece of data to DNS server to update the database. As a result, our server will be periodically unavailable up to several minutes - every time the IP address has been changed. To use the service one has register at a DDNS server, e.g.:

It is also needed to have a router capable of sending current IP address to the DDNS server. From the TP-Link offer there may be used access points with integrated routers and ADSL modems, like TP-Link TD-W8910G and TD-W8920G, or routers with ADSL modems - TP-Link TD-8840 or TD-8841.

DNS (Domain Name System)

is a service translating an IP address from numeric to domain name. It means that there is no need to memorize addresses in numeric form such as 62.121.128.13 - you can always use adequate name, for example www.dipol.com.pl. DNS server will translate the numeric address into domain name on request. After the computer which made the request receives the numeric address, it can establish connection with the appropriate computer.

Such communication is possible if the server has a static IP, at which it is always available. A single record in DNS server database establishes relation between the addresses 62.121.128.13 and www.dipol.com.pl. This relation is always valid and invariable, so the client can communicate with the server either through domain name (using DNS translation) or directly via numeric address (bypassing DNS server).

What is a DDNS?

If we wish to run a server for website hosting or accessing CCTV camera, available from any Internet location and we don't have a static IP address but a dynamic one supplied by DHCP server (Neostrada - ADSL service in Poland is a good example of such an option), we have to use DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name System) service.

How does DDNS work?

Neostrada clients do not have a static IP - it is changed periodically. As we have shown above, in this situation it is impossible to run a server, because the current IP address of the server would have been unknown. DNS server, which translates domain name into numeric form, points at one specific IP. Once the IP number changes, the DNS data ceases to be valid. The solution is provided by DDNS service. Similarly to DNS server, it provides a database containing relations between domain and numeric addresses, but this database may be updated on request by the domain owner. Thanks to this feature, the server is available in the domain address regardless its actual IP number. In such a case, the access to the server is limited to its domain name translated by DDNS server, unless we know its actual IP number (but of course we do not know how long it will be valid). We have to remember that when DHCP server changes the IP, it takes some time to detect this change by the client software or router, and, after the notification is sent to DDNS server, it takes another minute or so to send this piece of data to DNS server to update the database. In result, our server will be periodically unavailable up to several minutes, every time the IP address has been changed.

DDNS service is accessible via a number of providers. Its basic version, sufficient to support the above configuration, is usually free of charge. All devices supporting DDNS usually have several provider addresses preset by default.

About the author :Michal Lepiarz

Physical security is about measures that deter or prevent intruders from accessing your property and is very important as the first line of defense against an intruder. You will want to do everything you can to prevent physical access to, or theft from your property and belongings. This can be as simple as having secure locks on all of your outside facing doors/windows to metal shutters or high security gates.

There are several layers or tiers of physical security that should be considered when reviewing your home security. They could include things like obstacles that are designed to delay intruders breaking into your property, alarm systems, external lighting or CCTV. The 4 layers of physical security are:

• Environmental Design

• Mechanical Security

• Intrusion Detection

• Visual Monitoring

Environmental Design

Environmental design is the initial layer of physical security for a property and is generally more for commercial properties but could be employed in a residential dwelling. These can include deterrents such as barbed wire, spikes installed on top of walls, concrete bollards, metal barriers and warning signs etc…

Mechanical Security

This layer is concerned with mechanical aspects of security. These include doors, gates, locks, windows etc… Valid access through a gate or door can be either via a physical metal key or via a electronic key or keycard. In a large establishment, door access can be managed easier with use of an electronic key rather than keeping track of keys. Another area gaining interest in the realm of physical security is biometric access control, such as thumbprint readers.

Intrusion Detection

Intrusion detection systems or alarms are really more of a response measure as opposed to a preventative measure; however they could be regarded as a deterrent. Alarm security systems are often the second layer to be employed in a residential dwelling after mechanical security.

Visual Monitoring

The last layer is visual monitoring surveillance systems. These can be either simple CCTV cameras that record to a video tape to a sophisticated digital monitoring system that employs a network of cameras, computers and digital storage of images. The primary focus of visual monitoring is an aid the detection of intrusion and to gather evidence of the offence. It could also be deemed as a deterrent if appropriate signage is in place or the cameras are actually visible. Bear in mind, however, there could be legal issues to consider before installing surveillance equipment — especially if you expect to record and archive activities.

About the author :Andyj00

Video surveillance has been here as early as the sixties, but when its usage became prevalent in the early nineties, individuals began to become wary of it. Some assume it is an encroachment to privacy while few are telling it's a method of abuse of authority on the government's side. A lot of people are making a business about how the appearance of surveillance cameras is getting into their nerves. However, however which way I view it, I do not see anything inappropriate with installing surveillance camera systems around the capital particularly on public locations as well as dark corridors.

The idea of security camera systems was born when crime rates began to rise and manners of terrorism started to affect the world. Little crimes, muggings, burglaries, sexual assaults, homicides, etc. are starting to become an everyday condition that the need for video security became of great significance, if not for easy identification of the perpetrators and/or victims should they be caught on tape, to avoid crimes from happening through the installation of the surveillance camera. Yes, even the installation of a security camera may stop an individual with trouble in mind on his tracks.

After the September 11 World Trade Center attack, video surveillance system has become well-known as ever. Airports and all main ports of entry have upped their security systems a few notches and establishments have more CCTV cams that can cover every square inch of the building than what is essential but it is functioning. It has made the job of following and identifying people with prior violent records easier for the authorities, more so with nabbing individuals who are showcasing suspicious behavior. In the UK, the security cameras themselves can deal with violators right then and there by attaching a speaker to the unit. That's definitely pretty smart.

However, it's not only the government that benefits from this, private offices, shop owners, as well as home makers are recognizing the importance of a security camera system. A surveillance camera at a strategic location at a store is enough to substitute a human security personnel, and they do not sleep on duty unless you fail to monitor and update the system. Organizations large and small are having their workplaces all connected. A CCTV camera system is commonly the major pick but a wireless security camera for hidden surveillance is also very popular. Same holds true for private residences. You may be somewhere else in the world away from home and still see the goings-on inside your house, at the workplace, or at the store. Isn't that such a big help?

Video surveillance is not bad at all when utilized within reasonable limits. In fact, everything is. Surveillance camera systems in public locations as in shopping centers, subways, trains, learning institutions, corners, parking areas, and the like, definitely have more gains contrary to what a couple of persons would have us believe. If you are not doing anything inappropriate, then why would that be a predicament? You're still free to perform whatever you like as long as you are not breaking the rules. Still with the matter of having a cop video surveillance system inside private houses would be taking it somewhat far off. I presume a home owner could very well acquire a home security cam of his own if he thinks he requires it. The logic is to not over sensationalize it. If the only concern here is privacy, I'd rather be safe.

About the author :Nahshon Roberts
