Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureaus or MRSA is a non lethal organism that appears on your skin and can be transferred from skin to skin contact.

Five people have gotten MRSA  in the past month at the 3 B unit in Norfolk General.

At this point, the situation has not changed, but staff are re-testing patients in the affected unit to get a better handle on the outbreak.

She says  most of the 750 people taking part in the survey were from the Port Dover area.

72 per cent liked the focused curriculum idea, centred on a specific theme allowing students to graduate with all necessary credits.

ARC plans to discussed the focused school option at tonight’s latest session and Schneider says she’s heard there’s another option that will be discussed.

Also, 63 per cent support merging the public and separate school boards.

Asked how a merger of the public and separate systems would benefit communities and students, 57 per cent said they believe that merging the systems “would free up funds to keep small high schools open in all communities”.

The local OPP detachment Commander Zvonko Horvat old the Police Services Board there has been a surge in the number of break-and-enters and mischief incidents.

They involved both cottages and businesses, and it was noted foot-patrol officers recently found three businesses left unlocked.

That in mind, the hope is that the new mapping tool will help Police work with local residents to prevent potential crime incidents.

There were 31 break-ins last month, up from 12 during January of last year.

Police also recorded a big increase in mischief incidents–45 in January, compared to 27 during the same month last year.

The information will also go to the Grand Erie Board and the County.

The Inspector says detectives are busy with various investigations include fraud, sexual assault and the occasional homicide.

A Norfolk County Hero was recognized at Queens Park on Wednesday.

Master Bombardier Adam Holmes of Delhi was praised by MPP  Toby Barrett after the soldier received the highest award of the Canadian Medal of Military Valour.

Holmes received the honor after he helped save some of his fellow troops in a fierce battle with the Taliban in the Afghan war.

That happened two years ago.

Holmes was injured in the attack.

He was hit be three different grenades, injuring his arm, leg and backside.

That, according to independent consultant Ed Leeman.

The comments were made at Tuesday night’s council meeting.

However, Leeman did make a few suggested improvements for the future.

He says the marina needs a sustainable growth model and a third boat launch, something Councillor John Wells says will lead to some tough decisions.

Council decided to defer the decision on what to do with the marina until they hear from their own board next week.

CANACE and McHale have invited Tory Leader Tim Hudak to join them at a rally of the DCE next month.

Barrett says he’d be very surprised if Hudak accepted the invitation.

McHale got the idea after MPP Toby Barrett said CANACE was doing a good job of bringing the issue to light in the media.

The activist says the protest would be a great opportunity for Hudak to prove that he is a leader who is not afraid to tackle the tough issues.

Gary McHale and his group CANACE have now asked PC Leader Tim Hudak to march with them the next time they protest the DCE.

They’re giving Hudak the day and the time of his choice.
