After nearly 12 years as Director of the Murray Alzheimer Research and Education Program (MAREP), Sherry Dupuis is stepping down from the role to focus on her teaching and research activities with the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies and the Partnerships in Dementia Care Alliance.

CDRAKE would like to publicly thank Dr. Dupuis for her exceptional work in association with MAREP. We have no doubt that she will continue to enhance the lives of those living with dementia, as she moves forward with her future research.

CDKTN Launches New Dementia CME For Physicians

The CDKTN is pleased to announce a new CME for physicians based on the Canadian Consensus Conference on the DIagnosis and Treatment of Dementia's (CCCDTD) 2012 recommendations. This CME is aimed at physicians who treat those with various form of dementia and MCI and meets the accreditation criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada.

Learnings from the National Population Health Study of Neurological Conditions: Part II - Using models and databases to identify patients with neurological conditions and what needs and / or gaps exist for neurological populations across Canada.

The National Population Health Study of Neurological Conditions (the Study) is a five-year Study (2009-2014) that is expected to provide data on the scope, risk of onset and prognostic factors, health service utilization and the current and projected impact of neurological conditions over the next five, 10 and 20 years. In collaboration with Neurological Health Charities Canada (NHCC) and the Public Health Agency of Canada, this national Study is aimed at filling in gaps in knowledge about the state of neurological conditions in Canada.

A diagnosis of dementia doesn’t affect only the person with the disease. It affects his friends, family and co-workers. People with dementia and their families report that as difficult as it is to receive a diagnosis, the stigma they experience can be challenging. In this presentation, Roger Bumstead and his wife Mireille join Mary Schulz, Director of Education, at the Alzheimer Society of Canada to address some of the challenges of living with dementia. Roger, 72, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease at age 65 shortly after his retirement from law enforcement.
