Hello,

I am searching for a good new optical drive to burn CDr's and DVDr's, preferably internal. I am more interested in the CDr burning capability, and would like a drive that supports slow burning speeds like 4x with CLV to produce a uniform coloured burn on the disc (I had a Plextor PX-755 that stopped working). I mean I do not want a burn with different circular shades, which I think is the result of Z-CLV. Do we have any options today, as even finding an internal drive is getting difficult as far as I am seeing?

Thanks

Here’s the Japanese pioneer website showing all of their discontinued models, including the ones i just linked:
I hope pioneer is developing a new drive, if not this might be the end for high quality blu ray drives (and dvd and cd drives) now, and with lg ending their blu ray player business, i don’t doubt they will come after the drives also.
Also im gen z if that matters and i never actually bought any of the name brand optical drives brand new before, only lg til now since i need something with good recording quality.

Last fall we were on a cruise where the entertainment was bands from the 60's. Like the Beach Boys, Four Tops, Drifters, Righteous Bros etc. I recorded a few shows on my cell phone like 98% of the audience. I forgot about it till yesterday. I went into my ICLOUD account, and downloaded one of the videos to my computer. All went well, the video played on my computer. Then I used NERO BURNING ROM 10, to burn the video to a DVD disc. That went well also, and the DVD disc plays on my computer. I then placed the DVD into my DVD /CD recorder, (stop laughing, I still have one), but the disc did not play on the TV. I got some kind of error. Not sure what it said. Then I remembered in the past when I would record a show from the TV to a DVD in the DVD recorder, I had to FINALIZE the disc. I found the instructions to FINALIZE the disc, but when I got to the last step, the option to FINALIZE was listed, but it was greyed out, and I could not choose it Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong, or forgetting ? Thanks, Mike

Interesting read. I really didn't think it was possible for pressed discs to "rot".

https://www.techspot.com/news/107068-hu ... -away.html

Film collectors recently discovered that potentially hundreds of Warner Bros. DVDs released between 2006 and 2008 have become unplayable due to laser rot. The company has promised to replace some affected titles, but others may become much harder to find through official channels.

Warner Bros. has confirmed the issue and advised customers with damaged discs to contact customer support. However, the company will only replace titles that are still in print. Unfortunately, many affected DVDs are either out of print or locked behind licensing restrictions.

1) Using cdburnerxp I burned a DVD mdisc on a Lite-On iHAS122-14 FU drive (currently firmware EL06) that previously burned and read DVD mdiscs. After burning, the burning test (if the burning was completed successfully) failed. Now, on that same drive, if I put the disc in, nothing appears. I put the disc in an old ASUS drive of my friend and it loaded without any files. I put the disc in my ASUS 24x Drw-24f1mt drive and the files appeared, but only some of them could be extracted because during the extraction it crashes. Is this behavior normal for a poorly burned DVD mdisc? It is very strange that cdburnerxp shows recording completed, fails the test after recording and the files do not appear on some drives.

2) All my other recordings with other mdisc DVDs and the test after burning were completed well but using the ASUS 24x Drw-24f1mt drive.

3) The disc was recorded as CDFS. Is this format compatible for reading and copying files universal to SATA drives?

For storing HDDs, DVDs and electronics, is it less harmful to have a high temperature of 34-36C and a slightly lower humidity of 57-65% or a lower temperature of 32-33C and a slightly higher humidity of 65-70%?
If I turn on the dehumidifier in my room, the humidity goes down a little and the temperature goes up

M-Disc DVD is good for long term archiving or just marketing? Is it the same as regular DVDs?

Is there any problem if I store 6 DVDboxes with discs inside in a horizontal position, each box on top of the next box horizontally inside a closed shoe box?

Does MDisc DVD or common DVD have any resistance to damage and fissure when pressing the center of the disc to fit in the center of the dvdbox?
