I am new to this forum, and i could not find a decent answer on whether i can burn 360 games on Sony DVD+R DL discs. I have not yet tried to put one in yet. I have heard people only talk about verbatim discs and i wonder if those are the only ones that you can use to do this. Please reply, thanks.

I’m having a problem burning CDRs with my NEC 1300A (IDE), which is five years old. I also have another computer with an Optiarc 7200, but I would like to figure out why I’m having a problem doing CDRs on the older computer, which I still use.

For the first five years, I had no problems, but now, most of the times when I insert a blank CDR into the NEC, I get nothing at all. The Windows Autoplay box doesn’t appear. If I open Nero 6.0016 and try to burn a CD with that, I’m told to insert a blank disc. Time after time, I’m told to insert a blank disc when one is already in the drive.

If I try to use ITunes to burn the CDR, I get the same thing - I’m told to insert a blank CDR.

If I insert a recorded CDR into the drive, the Autoplay box appears and I can play the disc. If I insert a DVD into the drive, I can read it, and if I want to record to a blank DVD-R or DVD+R with Nero, I can do that with no problem at all.

On the increasingly rarer occasions when I do get to record to a CDR, there are problems. A couple of times, Nero went through the entire burning process at 4X, and then I find that only a small amount of data was actually copied to the disc. On a couple of occasions, the burn was aborted early, with a Nero message saying that it was unable to perform the fixation.

The last two times that I was able to record to a CDR, once with Nero and once with Itunes, the drive copied all the data to the discs, but I got a cluster of C2 errors in the same spot on both discs, at the 50:00 mark. The CD Speed disc quality test shows the same large downward spike on the graph for both discs.

When this problem first started about three months ago, I thought Nero might be the problem, so I removed it and did a clean install, and then everything seemed OK again. Since the problems started again two weeks ago, removing and then re-installing Nero did no good at all. If Nero is the problem, why do I have trouble with ITunes as well ?

For the last few months, I have been using Maxell Music CDRs, which are made by Taiyo Yuden. I have been using mostly TY discs for the last five years, with few problems, except for a short period a few years ago when Fuji TYs weren’t being made right.

Since then, I have been using Sony Walkman TYs and now these Maxell Music TYs, without any problems until recently. I just bought a few Fuji (made in Taiwan) CDRs just to see how my NEC would react with them. When I insert any of these Fujis in my NEC, the NEC reacts as though I haven’t inserted anything in it, just like what I usually get with the Maxell TYs.

With the Optiarc drive that I have on my other computer, I’ve burned about ten of these Maxell TYs without any problems. I haven’t even gotten a single C2 error.

Is there a software problem, a problem with the drive or with the discs? Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

I recently got MSFT Press' Windows 7 Inside Out.

Seems to state that optical disk recording is now fully built into Win 7, UDF as well as mastering.

Have not yet installed Win 7, so not yet tried.

I was wondering what people had to say about printable media (cd's and DVD's) and the printers that print on them. Mainly, I am interested in a general all-purpose color inkjet that can do the job and not a fancy dedicated (ie: expensive) printer. I haven't bought a new printer in years and years with the exception of a used HP 4050TN monochrome laserjet (best purchase ever) and I remember looking at inkjet printers at the time and they were pushing the ability to write directly on media. Now when I look at the new printers, the big push is all-in-one machines and networkable machines, but never a mention of disc handling. Anyway, I am curious as to the group opinion.

It looks like Blu-ray playback will finally be available on the Xbox 360. In an interview with Engadget, Steve Ballmer let slip that Xbox owners will be able to "get Blu-ray drives as accessories."

Rants n' Raves :: SkullCandy Headphones Are Garbage

My third pair of SkullCandy headphones just went on the fritz. I've had them for a little more than a month and one of the ear buds stopped working.

Anyway, think twice about buying SkullCandy stuff. It looks like, but they don't last very long. Customer service is a joke too.

ok heres my story...i was in my spam box i saw this "free scan"offer in there.ok not wanting it deleted it i hit the delete button..when i did this it scanned anyway
then avast poped up and blocked it along with spysweeper..then i did a sweep with spy sweeper and it frond the issue..it called it mal/hckpk-e..spysweeter put it
in quarinteen.after this spysweeper didnt work like before so i deleted it though add and delete programs it got rid of it spysweeper that is.ok now im getting these
run time errors poping up when i come on the computer.one says "runtime error "0" on the top it says "vbacceleroatorsqrid 11 control" and the other one says "mal-
warebytes anti malware runtime error 400" and then automation error "0"i contacted spysweeper but they have yet to responde..what can i do?thanks..

DVD Writers :: Sony DRU-840a not detected

I purchased this drive over a year ago. It was working fine. Out of nowhere it does not get detected by my BIOS or Windows. The drive light comes on while booting but stops after a few seconds. The eject tray button does nothing. It also slows down the boot process while connected. I cannot figure out how to get it working again.

Blu-ray Disc Drives :: Pioneer Announces BDR-205 12x Blu-ray Disc Writer

Pioneer announced this week that it will begin shipping its new BDR-205 Blu-ray Disc writer in October. The drive writes to both BD-R and BD-R DL media at 12x and reads BD media at 8x. No word on price, but the retail version (BDR-2205) will be priced at only $249. Let's hope that its better than the BDR-203.

LG sent me some documentation for their new 2 bay NAS devices, the N2R1 (DVD) and N2B1 (Blu-ray). These two devices not only let you backup and share optical drives, you can play back DVD's and, in the case of the N2B1, Blu-ray movies over the network. I was a little stumped at how they were pulling this off until I saw that they support iSCSI for optical drives.

For those not familiar with iSCSI, this means that a computer can mount the drive in the NAS over the network and, for all intents and purposes, treats it like one that is installed locally. My only concern here is bandwidth when using its wireless connection. LG's new NAS devices support 802.11g which, under ideal conditions, is fine for DVD's. For Blu-ray though, I don't think its going to cut it. I came across an article (http://www.linux-iscsi.org/index.php/ISCSI/HD) stating that iSCSI/HD maxes out draft 802.11n hardware.

Has anyone done this? Is it even feasible? I guess I'll find out soon.
