General Media Discussion :: does Lightscribe in any way effect the longevity of media?

I am planning to us Taiyo Yuden DVD+R's in the future to backup important files. If I label them using the Lightscribe technology or other thermal lacquer technology, will that in any way decrease the longevity/reliability of the disc? Thanks for the advice!

And it actually survived! I let it dry out for a few days and plugged it in this morning. It worked perfectly. Good job Kingston, your DataTraveler 100's are cheap as hell, but can handle a washing.

Billy Mays was found dead in his home this morning. He was the guy that did the commercials for Mighty Putty, OxiClean, etc.

Internationally known TV product pitchman Billy Mays, who rose to the top of his profession with a boisterous persona that touched consumers and helped create more than $1 billion in merchandise sales, was found dead in his South Tampa home Sunday morning.

His wife Deborah woke up and found Mays, 50, in bed and not breathing, Tampa police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said.

He was dead when Tampa Fire Rescue arrived at Mays' house at 2853 Bowen Daniel Drive, where he was with his wife and 3-year-old daughter. The time of death was reported as 7:45 a.m.

Mays had no obvious injuries, and there were no signs of forced entry at the family's home near Old Tampa Bay. No foul play is suspected, police said.

Family members told police Mays hadn't been feeling well Saturday and that he went to bed early, shortly after 10 p.m., McElroy said.

Hours before, Mays was on board a US Airways flight from Philadelphia that landed safely at Tampa International Airport Saturday afternoon after its front tires blew out, resulting in bumps and bruises to some passengers.

Todd Schnitt, host of "The MJ Morning Show," said he called his friend about 10 p.m. Saturday after seeing him interviewed on TV. Mays was getting ready for bed.

"He said he was tired; he had some stuff fall on him in the airplane," Schnitt said. "He hit his head when the (flight) landed."

I can't say I saw this coming. I always figured he'd get attacked by his chimp or have a tragic plastic surgery accident and not something as mundane as a heart attack.

Michael Jackson, the sensationally gifted child star who rose to become the "King of Pop" and the biggest celebrity in the world only to fall from his throne in a freakish series of scandals, died Thursday. He was 50.

Jackson died at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. Ed Winter, the assistant chief coroner for Los Angeles County, confirmed his office had been notified of the death and would handle the investigation.

The circumstances of Jackson's death were not immediately clear. Jackson was not breathing when Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at his Los Angeles home about 12:30 p.m., Capt. Steve Ruda told the Los Angeles Times. The paramedics performed CPR and took him to UCLA Medical Center, Ruda told the newspaper.

DVD Writers :: Lg GSA-H22N crashes when reading disks?

Hi everyone,

I've got a problem with my Lg GSA H22N that I hope someone can help me with. I haven't been able to get it to read/play disks. Anytime I put any kind of disk (CD, DVD etc) for it to read, my computer crashes and reboots. I have no idea what's going on. When I first got the drive, it burned dvds really slowly ( I think it took about 1 1/2 hrs for one) but using the instructions on how to enable DMA by dodecahedron fixed that. It did take a couple of tries but now it burns really quickly. I didn't mind it not being able to read disks before since I was using another drive to do that but my other burner isn't working either. =(

Anyone have any suggestions or know what's wrong?

i got these 2 new items....a soundcard and a preamp.the preamp is by rolls and the soundcard is by c-media..anyway i recorded a tune into audacity with new souncard and preamp and when i played it back it sounded a little tinny and
matalic.what would cause this and what can be done to fix it?its the only time it happened..thanks.

Blu-ray Disc Drives :: Looking for short Blu-Ray player for my HTPC.

Okay here is the thing; I recently build a new HTPC (from my "old" main computer). Everything works out great, except I am having problems with getting a small Blu-Ray drive for my HTPC.

The HTPC I have is an Antec Fusion Remote Max.

I already bought a LG GGC-H20L, but this drive is to long especially in combination with my CPU cooler (Thermalright SI-128SE). The problem is I am unable to fit the SATA cables on the drive, cause it interferes with the heatpipes of the CPU cooler.

So I am really looking for a shorter Blu-Ray drive. Anyone can recommend one? I already tried searching myself, but I am having a hard time getting a drive which will fit without problems in my HTPC.

I am looking for a depth of 18 cm max.

Anyone here who can recommend one?

Sonic Solutions and Roxio :: driver blocked

I am using windows vista and I purchased the Roxio "Easy CD & DVD Burning" which states on the box that it will work with windows vista, but when I install it, I get a message that the driver is blocked due to compatibility issues and to contact you for an upgrade that will make it work. Please let me know what I need to do. Thanks, Dennis

i just installed a new soundcard but when i looked at my devise manager its listed in yellow as a "multimedia audio controller" in yellow.i know this isnt good so what can i do?i uninstalled everything(soundcard and drivers)and rein-
stalled them but still have this issue..what else can i do?
