3rd Business Idol 2010 - is a competition for all college students who has passion in running a business enterprise. The event is part of Mandaue Business Movement 2010 and brought you by The Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry, provincial government, and the academe. The opening will be lunched on September 20 (Monday) from 1pm to 5pm at Plenary Hall CICC - Cebu International Convention Center Mandaue City Cebu.

There are already ten (10) selected schools who joined the contest and other universities and colleges. The nomination will start on October and businesses will be judged by November and awarding on December.

The winners will receive a cash prize which would be enough to start their own small and micro enterprises and a recognition from SMED program of provincial government which trained municipal entrepreneurs to be successful in their line of business.

Big Ape Design Studio and JONASDIEGO.COM, in cooperation with Super Debil Robot Comics and Kawalo Concepts & Designs presents: The 1st Cebu Comic Book Convention on the 25th of September 2010, 10AM to 7PM at the Activity Center Ayala Cebu.

The event aims to bring together Cebu’s comic book community under one roof to celebrate our collective love for the medium. It will feature activities and attractions like comic book art exhibits, panel discussions and talks by comic book professionals, portfolio reviews, contests, cosplay, and art workshops among others.

The 1st Cebu Comics Convention will have an activities and attractions like comic art exhibits, panel discussions and talks by comic book professionals, portfolio reviews, art workshops, contests, and a lot more.

Karansa Festival 2010

Danao City, a 3rd class city in the province of Cebu, will celebrates the Karansa Festival 2010 and 339th town fiesta this coming September 18-19 2010. The festival is a traditional celebration of thanksgiving in honor to St. Sto. Thomas de Villanueva, town patron saint.

Karansa - is a dance festival that shows the joy and happiness through performing the four basic steps, the kikay, karag, kurug and kurahay. In a little way, its a dance to be merry and to celebrates. It was called Karansa because the people of Brgy. Suba in Danao City, known for Pottery making, will gather and celebrates for a successful day of work through performing a dance.

This year Karansa celebration will highlights the ritual/street dancing and festival queen competitions from different contingents of elementary and high school of Danao City, also includes a neighborhood dance competition, devotional presentations, music, food, numerous vendors, and a torch parade through the streets of Danao City.

The Dancesport-Team Cebu City (DTCC) is proudly Welcomes the Friendliest Competition in the World, the 2010 Cebu IDSF Open Standard & Latin together with the 5th Dancesport Sa Sugbu this coming September 26, 2010 (Sunday) at the Pacific Grand Ballroom of Waterfront Cebu Hotel and Casino - Salinas Drive, Lahug, Cebu City.

International couple participants from Bulgaria, Turkey, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong and Korea are already gear up for the said competition. Also includes from the local teams, Metro Manila, Makati City, Pasay City, Pasig City, Baguio City, Tacurong, Sarangani, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, General Santos, Davao and Dumaguete.

About 14 contingents of Kabataan and Adult Category from different baranggays of Daanbantayan Cebu who joined last August 30, 2010 (Monday) in the street dancing and ritual showdown competition of 7th Haladaya Festival 2010. Also present on the event, the 23 young candidates and 16 lovely ladies for the Haladaya Festival Princess 2010 and Haladaya Festival Queen 2010. There were more number of visitors and spectators who witness the festivity compared to last year festival.

Break'N Southside - a Breakdance Competition to all Hiphop dancers that will break and blasts in the battle of dancing. The competition will start at 10am to 9pm at Ayala Center Cebu Active Zone. Dancers will be showcasing the fifth element of Hiphop Dance and B-boying.

Hiphop Dance - refers to social or choreographed dance styles primarily danced to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. This includes a wide range of styles notably breaking, locking, and popping which were developed in the 1970s by Black and Latino Americans.

The family decides to emigrate to the West. 25 years later Alex is in German hospital after severe car crash in which his parents have died. Bai Dan goes off to Germany. SYNOPSIS: Czech literature teacher Josef Tkaloun, who is past retirement age, realizes one day that he no longer understands his pupils, and so he quits... dramatically. What he does not predict is that in doing this he will lose his sense of place in society. He finds himself isolated in his city flat with only his wife Eliska for company. Unsure how to deal with this new situation, Josef tries to find a way out. After a few vain attempts of finding a decent job he accepts a position at a refundable bottles counter in the local supermarket. In this seemingly inhospitable place, he solves what had been the root of his unhappiness. Surrounded by people full of character and at the centre of a city community, Josef finally finds his way back to his own wife. This love story dramatizes the formidable moments in life, but its humor avoids sentiment in the style of a traditional Czech bitter-sweet comedy.

SYNOPSIS: It is considered to be among the masterpieces of Italian cinema. Its original title translates as "the usual unknown persons", a journalistic and bureaucratic euphemism for "unidentified criminals". Five small time thieves living in the suburbs of Rome plan a robbery against the Monte di Pieta` pawn shop. Not being well versed, they ask for help from Dante Cruciani (Toto`), a hardened criminal on parole, who teaches them how to crack a safe. The preparations for the heist go on notwithstanding various ups and downs as well as second thoughts until they reach a disastrous and comedic end.

TITLE: Storm Bound, The Netherlands TIME: 6:15 - 8:30
SYNOPSIS: Three boys embark on their first voyage across the ocean and find themselves shipwrecked on a tropical island. Hajo, Padde and Rolf, teenagers from a Dutch harbour town set out to sea as members of Captain Bontekoe’s crew. The ship is bound for exotic lands, and every day introduces the boys to new challenges. When approaching Java, a fire breaks out which destroys the ship. The boys manage to reach land but it’s not the haven they expected. The island natives are intent on killing them, but one of the local girls, Dolimah, befriends the boys and leads them on a perilous journey through the jungle to safety. Hajo and Rolf desperately want Dolimah to return with them but she is too afraid of the unknown world beyond her island. So the boys continue without her and finally reach Bontekoe who, in his new boat, is about to set sail back to Holland.

SYNOPSIS: In 1393, the Ottoman Empire was able to contain all provinces and distant lands known to them at that time except for the principality of Wallachia which was led by the great ruler, Mircea the Old. For years, he enforced many strongholds in their land and fought against the Turks and other invaders to keep their country's independence. To keep his only legacy, Freedom, he faced his final confrontation against the Turks.

TITLE: Juana la loca, Spain TIME: 12:27 - 2:15
SYNOPSIS: In 1496, Juana de Castile, daughter of the Catholic Kings, travels to Flanders to marry the Archduke Felipe de Austria, known as ‘El Hermoso’ (The Handsome) and son of the emperor Maximilian. Even though at the beginning this marriage is based on a political alliance between two royal families, passion and desire grow between the couple later on. Juana becomes Queen of Spain when her mother and her older brothers die in 1504. However, due to the pressure of being Queen and the discovery that her husband has many lovers, her mental health starts to deteriorate. Felipe, seeing his wife in this situation, prompts the Burgos Court to declare Juana legally insane and recluses her in the Monastery of Las Huelgas (Burgos, Spain), proclaiming himself as King of Spain.

TITLE: El Abuelo (The Grandfather), Spain TIME: 2:25 - 4:51
SYNOPSIS: ‘El abuelo’ (The Grandfather) tells the story of love, friendship, honour and betrayal within one powerful family spanning three generations. At the turn of the XX century, Don Rodrigo, Count of Albrit, an old Spanish aristocrat, returns penniless and almost blind from Peru to Spain after losing his large fortune in America. The death of his only son has made him come back to his family estate, now in the hands of his daughter-in-law, Lucrecia. September 9, 2010 - Thursday (Cebu City and Provinces Only). A special non-working holiday under the Republic Act No. 6953 Date: May 22, 1990. This is to observed the 132nd birth anniversary of the late 2nd President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines and known as "The Great Old Man" of Cebu, Sergio Osmeña. A holy mass will be offered at the site of his monument found in Lapu-Lapu Street corner Osmena Boulevard, followed by a short program and a floral offering led by Mayor Mike Rama, Cong. Tomas R. Osmeña and the rest of the Osmeña family.

Sergio Osmeña y Suico (September 9, 1878 – October 19, 1961) was 4th and the second President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines. He is known as the first "Filipino Statesman" and "The Great Old Man". Comparsa Sa Mandawe 2010 is Success!! Cluster 7 of Brgy. Cambaro and Brgy. Umapad was adjudged for Best in Production Design, Best in Musicality and Grand Champion of Comparsa Sa Mandawe 2010 which happened yesterday afternoon (August 28, 2010) at Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex. Cluster 8 of Brgy. Ibabao and Brgy. Looc placed second prize while Cluster 10 of Brgy. Tipolo and Brgy. Subangdaku got the third prize. P75,000 plus trophy was given to Cluster 7 of Brgy. Cambaro and Brgy. Umapad for the grand prize winner.

Sinulog Foundation Incorporated, headed by Mr. Ricky Ballesteros will be holding a "Sinulog Dance Workshop" on September 2 to 5, 2010 at Cebu City Sports Center. A project of the Cebu City Govt. DepEd (Dept. of Education ) Region 7 and SFI (Sinulog Foundation Incorporated).

The dance workshop will be led by two of the great name of dancing institution, Douglas Nierras of Powerdance, one of the judge of Sinulog Festival Ritual Showdown and internationally recognized in contemporary dance company. Then, Dr. Larry A. Gabao head of PNU (Philippine Normal University) Kislap Sining Dance Troupe and Philippine Folk Dance Society.

"HALA" - Haladaya Festival 2010

Despite from political problem between the provincial governor of cebu and the mayor of daanbatayan cebu, Daanbantayanons continue staging its 7th Haladaya Festival this coming August 30, 2010 (Monday), this is the annual celebrations of taga Daanbantayan in honor of St. Rose de Lima, town's patron saint.

Daanbantayan or old name - Kandaya - refers to the old watchtower which was located at Barangay Tapilon. The watchtower was built to defend the area from foreign invaders and muslim marauders.

One of the highlights of the festival are the search for Haladaya Festival Queen and King 2010, talent competition, street dancing and the ritual showdown.

Airsoft of Gov. Gwen Garcia was launched last September 2008 which is only 16 25-men and women teams who are into war freak sessions. From the known Mantawi Festival of Mandaue City, another festival which will be held this coming August 28, 2010 is so called Comparsa sa Mandawe 2010. There will be a Streetdancing competition which start at 3pm followed by Musical Dance Theater Competition at 7pm at Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex. This event is part of the 41st City's Charter Day that will be happening on August 30, 2010. Comparsa sa Mandawe is organized by the City Mayor’s Office- Mandaue City Tourism and Historical Office and Mandaue CHEST Foundation, Inc. which aims to make the Mandauehanons cultural, united, competitive and strong.

A BRIEF SYNOPSIS OF COMPARSA SA MANDAWE FESTIVAL

COMPARSA - a dance theater competition between different youth groups that used to be held in Mandaue in the late 50’s and 60’s. Sometimes spelled with a Z, it is a Spanish word that means competition. As in most comparsa traditions in different parts of the Visayas, dance presentations were accompanied by a live band or stringed ensemble.

MANDAWE - This was how the name of the City was spelled until the granting of the City Charter in 1969.

As one of the highlights of the annual charter Day Celebration, The main event of the Festival will be the Street Performance and Musical Dance Theater Competition among the different Barangay Clusters.

There are 27 barangays of the city who are divided into 10 clusters will be participating on the said festival event.

By using the old spelling of the name, it is easily understood that the nature and focus of the festival is the city’s history, heritage and culture. By using the trajectory of the past, the festival allow its audience and participants to reflect on its present and exhibit the hopes and dreams of the Mandauehanons for their city. Thus in a subtler way, pride of place and belongingness is embedded especially among the young Mandauehanons who are expected to be the major participants and beneficiaries of this program.

34th National Milo Marathon - CEBU LEG

Runners of Cebu, be ready!! The 34th National Milo Marathon will be kick off on Sunday, September 5, 2010 at Cebu City Sports Complex. The program will start at exactly 6am, starting line at Osmena Blvd., fronting Abellana National School and finish line inside Cebu City Sports Complex. While on September 3, 2010 the Presscon and Launching of 34th National Milo Marathon (see above poster for more details). This is the annual sports event of MILO Philippines which aims this year a fund raising of 4,000 rubber shoes. For only 5 pesos registration, it will be allocated to the Run-For-A-Cause. For Cebu City, the Tejero Elementary School will be benefit the 400 pairs of running MILO shoes.

For the THIRD TIME, Palawod Festival of Bantayan Island Cebu won again this year Pasigarbo sa Sugbo which held last August 14, 2010 at CICC (Cebu International Convention Center) Mandaue City. They bagged the grand prize of P1 million given by the province of cebu. The event was part of the 441st Anniversary of the Province of Cebu and about 32 contingents from different provincial town of cebu joined in the grand showdown.

April 1, 2010 (Holy Thursday) - Sosas Family and I invade the different churches of cebu south provinces for visita iglesia 2010, a family annual tradition during holy week.

Visita Iglesia is a traditional Filipino custom of visiting seven or fourteen churches during Maundy/Holy Thursday. This is a solemn and offering prayers activity that in every visit of different churches there is a Blessed and Holy Sacrament.

Here are the 7 Churches that we visited.

First Visit: Minglanilla Church: Immaculate Heart of Mary

Our first visit was offering one mystery of the Holy Rosary which is the mystery of the Luminous Light. The Minglanilla Church was created in October 30, 1857 through Cebu Bishop Romualdo Jimeno. Minglanilla Cebu is commonly known as the Sugat capital of the Cebu South Provinces, the Sugat which will be doing in the evening night of black saturday - April 3, 2010 - where people will witness the reenactment of the meeting of the risen Christ and his mother. The town is also celebrating the SUGAT KABANHAWAN FESTIVAL 2010 this coming April 4, 2010 (Easter Sunday) - a festival of colors composed from different school rep. of minglanilla cebu which offered a ritual dance and chants of prayer to our beloved risen God.

2nd Visit: Naga City Church: St. Francis de Assisi

St. Francis de Assisi, the patron saint of Naga Cebu and home of the SPC (Salcon Power Corporation) power plant. On the second visit we offered a Joyful mystery of the Holy Rosary.

3rd Visit: San Fernando Church: San Isidro Labrador

One Sorrowful mystery for San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of San Fernando Cebu. San Fernando Cebu Church was one of the interior intact for Philippine edition of Gothic Cathedral. The town is also known for the Sikoy-sikoy festival, a festival for thanksgiving ritual and a petition prayer for guidance, protection and blessings for a bountiful harvest from the farm and from the sea.

4th Visit: Carcar City Church: St. Catherine of Alexandria

And for St. Catherine of Alexandria, the patron saint of Carcar City Cebu, one glorious mystery of the holy rosary. Fr. Antonio Maglano became the first parish priest of Carcar on October 16, 1858 and in-fact the church of St. Catherine of Alexandria is already 124 years old and one of the great wonder and treasure of the town.

5th Visit: Brgy. Lindogon Simala Argao Cebu: Our Lady of Lindogon

Light mystery of the holy rosary for Our Lady of Lindogon of Simala Cebu. Simala is popularly known for the miraculous events of Mama Mary. The temple is now currently under for renovation and extension. This a good place for recollection and offering a prayers to Mama Mary.

6th Visit: Argao Church: Saint Michael de Archangel

A joyful mystery for Saint Michael de Archangel, the patron saint of Argao Cebu. Argao became a parish in 703, which prompted the construction of a beautiful Rococo-Baroque church structure in 1734 and was completed in 1788. 7th Visit: Boljoon Cebu: St. Nuestra Señora Patrociñio de Maria

For St. Nuestra Señora Patrociñio de Maria, the patron saint of Boljoon Cebu, we offered a Joyful msytery of the holy rosary. Boljoon Church is veritable showcase of old and intricate carvings and bass relief. It is also pseudo-baroque rococo with beautifully decorated interior. It has a main nave and transcript and has twenty-eight pillars, two meters thick and made of mortar and lime, which support the walls as thick as the pillars. February 10, 2010 - Catmon Cebu celebrates its 175th fiesta anniversary in honor of the patron San Guillermo de Aquitania. One of the big highlights of the celebration is the town famous festival, "Budbod Kabog Festival". Budbod Kabog is one of the specialty products that can only be taste in Catmon Cebu.

"Kabog” is a small-seeded cereal plant known as millet and grew wild in abundance Catmon’s mountains, especially in Barangay Agsuwao. Other specialty products that describing the grain “kabog” are bibingkang kabog, bikong kabog, kabog valenciana, bibingka, coconut balls, peanut brittle, empanadita and many more.

The Budbod Kabog Festival is a festival showcasing the whole process of producing the delicious specialty. The dancers are dressed in a cultural/ethnic attire and show eight basic bodbud dance steps created by Mrs. Arlene Menchavez, Mr. Dioso Branzuela and Mr. Nelson Ares.

Step 1. "Kabhig" Bending of the trunk with the right arm extending to the floor simulating planting of the kabog seeds.
Step 2. "Bugaw" Extended arms wave the hands upward to distract the birds, shooing them before they consume the ready-to-harvest seeds.
Step 3. "Kayog" or "Hakot" Shows the harvest of the seeds by cutting the plant stalks with a sickle.
Step 4. "Gi-ok" With feet in parallel tortillier, the movement demonstrates the actual separation of the grain from its stalk.
Step 5. "Asod" Is the pounding of a large wooden pestle on a large wooden mortar. The alternate pounding of two pestles that break the shell off from the grain is the basis of the Budbod Kabog beat. (The rest would be support percussion from the kalatong or other percussive instruments).
Step 6. "Alig-ig" Final separation of the grain from the shell through the use of a "hapag", an oblong indigenous container.
Step 7. "Pasiko" Circular rotations of the "luwag", large cooking spoon with an elongated handle.
Step 8. "Kilikiti" Wrapping of the Budbod Kabog in banana leaves. The process is concluded with "paibog" or enticing the onlookers to "tilaw" or taste the delicious delicacy.

The Street dancing was start at 1pm in Catmon School Grounds to main streets of the poblacion and ends at the Mayor P.J Monsanto Sports and Cultural Center for the ritual showdown. Colorful costume from different contingents from elementary and high schools was made spectators and tourist decide to come back every year at Catmon Cebu.
