Bad News turns into Good News!! Cebu just thought that Sinulog Festival - Lumad Basakanon will not be participating this year Aliwan 2014, it was January 22 2014 an article from sunstar release a report that "Lumad Basakanon not joining Aliwan Festival" but I think the group and its organizer change their minds. Well, good decisions, because recently Aliwan 2014, the Sinulog Festival of Cebu City which Lumad Basakanon is representative tribe was declared as Aliwan 2014 Street Dance Champion.

The competition was called as "Grand Festival of Champions, Aliwan Fiesta", wherein different Philippine Festivals contingents gathered and compete through showcasing their dance, culture, pageantry, musicality and creativity of every regions. The grand parade was held last Saturday, April 26, 2014, in Aliw Theatre at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), in Manila. Lumad Basakanon, of Brgy. San Nicolas, was a Hall of Famer for three consecutive Aliwan Fiesta championships last 2006-2008 and now they are back on the ground for 1 million grand prize as Aliwan 2014 Champion. (",)

FOR financial reasons, Basak-San Nicolas Barangay Captain George Rama said he doesn’t want Lumad Basakanon to join in the Aliwan Festival in Pasay City in April. In an interview with Sun.Star Cebu yesterday, Rama said they need at least P3 million to join Aliwan, an amount which for him is too big to raise.

Rama said he would prefer that such amount be used to address different problems in the barangay or in the city, or to help typhoon and earthquake survivors. “Ganahan ko muadto. Ganahan sad ang mga dancers. Pero daghan pa kaayog problema oy. Daghang trahediya. Kung muadto mi didto dako kaayo ang gasto kay mahal man ang plite (I’d love to go. The dancers would love to go. But we have so many problems right now),” he said.

Rama said they will have to spend for the boat fare from Cebu to Manila and back for the estimated 400 dancers, props men and support staff of Lumad Basakanon. It does not include yet the different committees for the contingent.

Asked if they will not use the more than P2 million they won in the Sinulog grand parade, Rama said he prefers that the money be divided among the Basakanon dancers and props men.

It will serve as a reward for them for all the effort they put in during the three months they practiced for the Sinulog grand parade free interpretation category, he said.

On asking financial assistance from the City, Rama said he is not optimistic about it, considering that the City Council rejected their request in 2013.

Abyan is a visayan terminology which literaly means companion or accompaniment in moving along towards one common goal, with different modes of life and style yet the group moves together in one direction.

The band gathered after cebu drummers & percussionist kick off, when one of the member decided to formaly make it into an african djembe ensemble.

Spearheaded by two long time djembe players who has been playing from different bands of cebu to national gatherings this two players did not limit themselves only on djembe they could also play bongo, and conga in an afro-cuban,brazilian style of music. which then why the group has this fusion of Afro-Brazilian batucada style, yet a full african djembe ensemble.After a few performances from cebu to neighboring islands and gaining positive feedbacks from audince who have experience dancing with the beat and there it started. the group is full blown It was officially formed on the month of December 2011.

Abyan produced percussive music using self hand crafted african djembes and large (dundun) drums with accompanying chants of positivity. they specializes in feet stomping afro-brazilian beats and likewise plays both indoor and outdoor without electronic amplifiers.

3rd Business Idol 2010 - is a competition for all college students who has passion in running a business enterprise. The event is part of Mandaue Business Movement 2010 and brought you by The Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry, provincial government, and the academe. The opening will be lunched on September 20 (Monday) from 1pm to 5pm at Plenary Hall CICC - Cebu International Convention Center Mandaue City Cebu.

There are already ten (10) selected schools who joined the contest and other universities and colleges. The nomination will start on October and businesses will be judged by November and awarding on December.

Danao City, a 3rd class city in the province of Cebu, will celebrates the Karansa Festival 2010 and 339th town fiesta this coming September 18-19 2010. The festival is a traditional celebration of thanksgiving in honor to St. Sto. Thomas de Villanueva, town patron saint.

About 14 contingents of Kabataan and Adult Category from different baranggays of Daanbantayan Cebu who joined last August 30, 2010 (Monday) in the street dancing and ritual showdown competition of 7th Haladaya Festival 2010. Also present on the event, the 23 young candidates and 16 lovely ladies for the Haladaya Festival Princess 2010 and Haladaya Festival Queen 2010. There were more number of visitors and spectators who witness the festivity compared to last year festival.

Break'N Southside - a Breakdance Competition to all Hiphop dancers that will break and blasts in the battle of dancing. The competition will start at 10am to 9pm at Ayala Center Cebu Active Zone. Dancers will be showcasing the fifth element of Hiphop Dance and B-boying.

Hiphop Dance - refers to social or choreographed dance styles primarily danced to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. This includes a wide range of styles notably breaking, locking, and popping which were developed in the 1970s by Black and Latino Americans.

SYNOPSIS: Three boys embark on their first voyage across the ocean and find themselves shipwrecked on a tropical island. Hajo, Padde and Rolf, teenagers from a Dutch harbour town set out to sea as members of Captain Bontekoe’s crew. The ship is bound for exotic lands, and every day introduces the boys to new challenges. When approaching Java, a fire breaks out which destroys the ship. The boys manage to reach land but it’s not the haven they expected. The island natives are intent on killing them, but one of the local girls, Dolimah, befriends the boys and leads them on a perilous journey through the jungle to safety. Hajo and Rolf desperately want Dolimah to return with them but she is too afraid of the unknown world beyond her island. So the boys continue without her and finally reach Bontekoe who, in his new boat, is about to set sail back to Holland.

For years, he enforced many strongholds in their land and fought against the Turks and other invaders to keep their country's independence. To keep his only legacy, Freedom, he faced his final confrontation against the Turks.

TITLE: Juana la loca, Spain TIME: 12:27 - 2:15
SYNOPSIS: In 1496, Juana de Castile, daughter of the Catholic Kings, travels to Flanders to marry the Archduke Felipe de Austria, known as ‘El Hermoso’ (The Handsome) and son of the emperor Maximilian. Even though at the beginning this marriage is based on a political alliance between two royal families, passion and desire grow between the couple later on. Juana becomes Queen of Spain when her mother and her older brothers die in 1504. However, due to the pressure of being Queen and the discovery that her husband has many lovers, her mental health starts to deteriorate. Sergio Osmeña y Suico (September 9, 1878 – October 19, 1961) was 4th and the second President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines. He is known as the first "Filipino Statesman" and "The Great Old Man". Comparsa Sa Mandawe 2010 is Success!! Cluster 7 of Brgy. Cambaro and Brgy. Umapad was adjudged for Best in Production Design, Best in Musicality and Grand Champion of Comparsa Sa Mandawe 2010 which happened yesterday afternoon (August 28, 2010) at Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex. Cluster 8 of Brgy. Ibabao and Brgy. Looc placed second prize while Cluster 10 of Brgy. Tipolo and Brgy. Subangdaku got the third prize. P75,000 plus trophy was given to Cluster 7 of Brgy. Cambaro and Brgy. Umapad for the grand prize winner.

The event was organized by the City Mayor’s Office- Mandaue City Tourism and Historical Office and Mandaue CHEST Foundation, Inc. It is also part of the 41st Charter Day Celebration of Mandaue City wherein "Comparsa Sa Mandawe 2010" is one of the big highlights of celebration.

Sinulog Dance Workshop

Sinulog Foundation Incorporated, headed by Mr. Ricky Ballesteros will be holding a "Sinulog Dance Workshop" on September 2 to 5, 2010 at Cebu City Sports Center. A project of the Cebu City Govt. DepEd (Dept. of Education ) Region 7 and SFI (Sinulog Foundation Incorporated).

The dance workshop will be led by two of the great name of dancing institution, Douglas Nierras of Powerdance, one of the judge of Sinulog Festival Ritual Showdown and internationally recognized in contemporary dance company. Then, Dr. Larry A. Gabao head of PNU (Philippine Normal University) Kislap Sining Dance Troupe and Philippine Folk Dance Society.

The workshop is open to all choreographers and sinulog dancers for them to mold their knowledge and skills in terms of dancing and also to make their sinulog performances perfect in this coming Sinulog Festival 2011 Grand Showdown.

Search for the Illusive MAGIKERONG FILIPINO 2010

“The Illusive search for MAGIKERONG FILIPINO” - The first-ever magical search event for the best magician filipino which will be held at Ayala Center Cebu this coming September 3, 2010 (Friday) for Free Admission. This is organized by Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) and Virginia Foods in cooperation with KSM Events Management.

The said search event is to "Give avenue to all Filipinos who have the passion about magic and to showcase Filipino talent at its best aside from the usual singing and dancing. There will be a series of elimination during the months of August and September in different parts of the country for the top 12 magicians. The culminating event will be held in Manila on September 30, 2010."
