Most artists that I have worked with will have a story about how we created a specific sound or feel for one of their songs, most times using an unusual and whacky method. I really do love to throw myself into unfamiliar sonic spaces when painting an audible landscape. It allows me to step outside of the box and approach the creation of music from an atypical vantage point, with the positive side effect of keeping the artist on their toes.

Formulaic writing can sometimes be advantageous, especially for the listener whom will unconsciously lean towards the familiar. But allow yourself to step away, hell, run far away from the norm. You will no doubt be able to look back in and understand how to be more unique with your craft. And your songs will thank you.

Kai Botak’s sophomore album, Awake, is being pressed as I type this. She has really gone all out on this

Kai Botak’s sophomore album, Awake, is being pressed as I type this. She has really gone all out on this one. Not only did I produce and mix.master this beautiful album, Kai also gave me the latitude to write string and horn arrangements, and co-write the songs with her. I am very excited for this to be released in the next few weeks. www.kaibotak.com

Laura Tidemann Dishong is putting final touches on her freshman release, Little Green Apples, before heading out for pressing. This album is the epitome of an artist’s growth throughout a project. She is an amazing writer, vocalist, and harpist, and her hard work, determination, and beautiful spirit shines throughout each and every song. I am extremely proud of her, and I can’t wait for this to be released.
