The problem is that Phyllis’ history with romantic connections and basically all other types of relationships, including family and supposed friends, is bad. She often means well but then goes off the soapy rails and turns on those she claims to care about.

Phyllis can empathize with Matt, because she shares the outsider tag in Genoa City, Wisconsin. But she also will inevitably lead him into trouble that he doesn’t need.

Victor Newman Is A Mentor?

Matt is stuck in GC because of the arrangement he has with Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). In reality, there is no agreement. Howarth’s reforming character is basically serving as Victor’s hostage.

The Newman family was shocked when the restored head of Newman Enterprises decided not to have Matt put in prison or have his so-called security force make him disappear. Instead, Victor decided to allow Matt to live on the Newman Ranch and force him to befriend Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn).

Efforts to get to know Cane were spotty, and Matt didn’t put a lot of effort into it. He came clean to Flynn’s character, telling him the gist of Victor’s efforts to have them become friends, though that could have been seen as part of the con.

Phyllis Summers’ Angle Is Awkward

Matt has been suspicious of Phyllis all along. While he naturally found her attractive, the one-time assaulter believed she was using him for some unknown reason.

However, they’ve since reached a tentative meeting of the minds and are getting along. Neither person has any other true ally, so this pairing makes sense on a desperation level.

But it is also true that their shared outsider status allows them to see the world similarly. At this point in the plot, Phyllis seems genuinely interested in helping and protecting Matt, and he’s going along with it.

Matt Clark Has An Unlikely Career Option

Allowing Phyllis to remove the ankle bracelet that Victor’s ever-present security team put on Matt’s ankle was foolish. Howarth’s character didn’t approve of that move because he intended to leave, as he’d recently threatened to do.

Phyllis’ reckless act will produce consequences. But that’s probably what she intends.

Victor just gave her the remnants of Arabesque. So, why poke the bear’s moustache?

Yet, once this likely blip is resolved, it’s fair to wonder if Matt will work for Phyllis at the company she can rebuild.

Only in the soap world could Stafford’s character have stolen a worldwide behemoth like Newman Enterprises and then later be gifted another company by its founder and then have someone with Matt’s criminal past become her right-hand corporate arm.

Days Of Our Lives spoilers suggest that Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) is determined to find Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien) and bring her home.

Leo jumped to the conclusion that EJ was behind Gwen’s disappearance and sang like a canary before considering that someone else could be responsible for her disappearance.

Thanks to Leo’s information, Cat stole the letter and gave it to the FBI. The file that was in Melinda’s office is now blank taking away Gwen’s leverage.

Gwen’s confession was in that file and Leo didn’t wait the required ten days to access it.

Information about Gwen’s disappearance as well as the letter contents are beginning to spread to several different people, some who have not even involved in wanting to save her. Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) is furious with Cat for stealing this file.

Leo Stark Put Gwen Rizczech’s Freedom At Risk

Instead of helping Gwen, Leo has actually put her freedom at risk because he has exposed her part in Dimitri Von Leuschner’s (Peter Porte) kidnapping.

Since Gwen is alive and has admitted to this crime, it could be the only thing that can be used out of the letter.

Will Gwen end up in prison for kidnapping instead of being the owner of the hospital?

Now that everyone who is anyone is looking for Gwen, how long will it take before she is found and charged with a crime? Leo will clue in Chad Dimera (Connor Floyd) and Belle Black (Martha Madison) and they will join the search now that Leo knows where Gwen is and why she is there.

Leo was supposed to hold off on all of this until Gwen’s death had been confirmed.

Will Dimitri Von Leuschner Make A Deal?

It seems that Rafe will approach Dimitri and try to make a deal with him for Gwen’s freedom.

Since Gwen was grabbed on US soil, Dimitri could be charged with kidnapping. Rafe may offer both of them immunity if they agree to help take EJ down. Will Dimitri give up his victim to take down EJ once and for all?

Rafe doesn’t want Gwen or Dimitri, EJ is the big fish in this little pond and Rafe has wanted to take him down for years.

Will Rafe finally get what he wants now that he is this close to making EJ pay? Will someone else have to come up with the goods on EJ if Gwen happens to disappear for good now that everyone is onto her?

The Bold and the Beautiful spoilers document that Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) feels that she’s lost everything. That’s not true because apparently she still has her health, for now.

However, let’s assume that Sheila is physically healthy. Mentally, the soapy jury remains out, and if Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) were the presiding judge, Brown’s character would be repeatedly convicted for crimes against humanity.

Steffy simply doesn’t believe that Sheila has any redeeming qualities. But that’s because she remains a perceived and a real threat. Imagine if that status changes.

The Day The Finnegans Were Nearly Shot Dead

Sheila was in a vastly different headspace when she confronted Steffy in the alley behind Il Giardino. Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) hadn’t yet purchased that restaurant but was working there.

He went to dump trash in the alley and found Steffy and her husband, John Finn Finnegan (Tanner Novlan), with blood-soaked clothing. They’d been shot in an apparent botched robbery.

But that married couple hadn’t been robbed. No, Sheila made it look like they were held up, had their valuables and money stolen from them, and shot in an apparently failed self-defense attempt.

Sheila Carter Was Blood-Thirsty

The Sheila viewers saw during that infamous double-shooting scene is very different than the reformed edition fans see today. Those who’ve championed her redemption efforts haven’t been fooled.

Brown’s monumental efforts across the daytime decades have served to create a notorious character who could easily be one of the top four villains in all of soap opera history.

It’s fair if some detractors would argue against that subjective assessment, but then a hard counter would include Sheila being a crossover character, originally being part of The Young and the Restless for several years.

Sheila, circa the Steffy and Finn shooting, was bloodthirsty, and she hadn’t yet fallen in love with Deacon. Years later, she just agreed to Deacon’s divorce request and allowed her now ex-husband to couple with Steffy’s mother, Taylor Hayes (Rebecca Budig).

Steffy Forrester Finnegan Opens The Door An Inch

Steffy claims that she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder because of the repeated assaults Sheila committed against her and the Forrester family. That makes sense and doesn’t feel like an exaggeration.

Finn has an enduring connection with the woman he refers to as his birth mother. To his credit, he’s remained loyal to Steffy while offering sincere compassion to Sheila and having recently agreed to advocate for her.

It feels like a shift in the dynamic is about to happen. Either Sheila will suffer some malady that forces Wood’s character to view her sympathetically, or a transformative event will allow the daytime door to open, if just an inch, and allow Finn’s birth mother to realize the connection she longs for with Finn, Hayes Finnegan (Bryan David Garlick), and yes, even Steffy.

The Rise of Digital Contestants

In late 2025, AiMation Studios launched a show called Non Player Combat. The company calls it the world’s first “fully AI-generated reality TV series,” where six digital characters were dropped onto a fake island to fight each other.

In the storyline, they faced polar bears, snakes, and surprise attacks, much like any human would, but there weren’t any human actors on set. Interestingly, according to AiMation Studios, the contestants weren’t given traditional scripts. Instead, software controlled every choice they made.

As reported by Daily Mail, the series represents “reality TV created entirely by AI,” where autonomous digital avatars make their own decisions. A big plus for producers was the fact that it cost about $28,000 to make. Notably, that is a tiny fraction of what networks pay for normal shows. However, it seems you get out what you put into it, because not everyone loved the idea.

Critics hated it. They called the characters “cold” and “dull,” because it seemed that the digital contestants had vacant eyes and robotic voices, so viewers couldn’t really feel like caring about the outcome.

Why Algorithms Lack Human Messiness

A piece from Medium argues that “human hosts may be replaced by cutting-edge technology,” as the industry pushes for cheaper content. Still, making a computer program look like a person is not the same as capturing real human behavior.

Real people are messy. They cry over small things and take their grudges to the next level on occasion. Plus, they say things that they later regret. That’s exactly the sort of thing viewers hear during confessionals. It might not be that easy to replicate with AI because they simply don’t think like humans do.

An article in the Saint Peters Tribune asks a simple question: “Are we watching real people or scripted machines?” The author points out that viewers instantly spot when something feels fake. Why is that? Well, for a start, when a digital character cries, nobody feels sad. We just see a bunch of math code trying to act human, which won’t elicit any empathy because it lands as creepy.

Enhancement Instead of Replacement

Some networks are taking a different road with AI. According to Parade, host Andy Cohen, well-known for The Real Housewives series and other Bravo shows, partnered with Peacock to create an “AI avatar guiding Peacock viewers through Bravoverse.”

It works because tech people scan thousands of hours of old show clips. Then it builds custom video feeds for fans.

The digital host talks to you, but he isn’t starring in the drama; Cohen’s AI twin’s task is to help viewers find the good parts of the real human drama. Cohen isn’t out of a job. He just cloned his voice and face to do extra work for him.

The Verdict on Human Reality TV Stars

So, will human stars become obsolete anytime soon? Probably not. Networks love saving money and a $28,000 price tag looks great on a spreadsheet but television needs real emotion to survive.

Fans don’t tune in to watch algorithms trade insults on a fake island. Instead, they lean into meltdowns, bad choices, cultural blunders, and real tears. Until a computer program can truly feel embarrassed or fall in love, human reality stars are probably completely safe.

Losing a child during birth naturally creates a strong, permanent effect on the hearts and minds of any parent.

Sally and Adam were going to have their first child earlier this decade. Ava’s loss led to their connection later ending.

Adam broke Sally’s heart when claiming that he never loved her, which was purely a word game he foolishly played to protect her.

Grossman’s character felt that he should leave his spot as the head of Newman Media and also cut himself from her life.

He did so as a form of self-sabotage, believing that Sally would eventually suffer from his wronging her.

Adam only later realized his terrible mistake, and they reconciled. Then, he cheated on her with Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan).

Chelsea Lawson Effect Is A Difference-Maker

Adam loves Chelsea and has since they first got together. The feelings he had for Sally, which were real, never reduced what he had with Chelsea.

Chadam, as they were once known, found their way back to each other through their son, Connor Newman (Judah Mackey).

His diagnosis made Chelsea and Adam realize that their family mattered more to them than continued relationships with Billy and Sally, respectively.

So, the secret about the reconnection that unexpectedly happened. The hurt that Sally felt was different than her prior break with Adam.

That ending seemed like something he would never come back from or, being that they live in the soap world, was something that Adam wouldn’t rebound from for a while.

Billy Abbott Must Know The Whole Story

Sally should have gotten to Billy sooner. But she delayed ever so slightly, which allowed Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) to question Sally about Newman Enterprises’ acquisition of Newman Media in front of Billy in his living room.

Viewers shared Sally’s complete trepidation about leaving Billy in the dark.

He feels the mother of his forthcoming child was cheated out of Newman Media because Adam used intimidation.

No, he paid Sally a handsome sum, which they both want to keep from Victor.

So, telling Billy about that financial transaction would arm him with information he would certainly use during a future outburst with Victoria or Victor himself. Such is the latest daytime dramatic in this tale.

The Bold and the Beautiful spoilers document that Melissa Dylan (Sydney Bullock) could use various pen names if she were a writer on this show. She was first known as Miss Dylan, then later revealed that her actual first name was Melissa.

She most recently told Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks) that her first name was Nancy. Dylan, the name the characters most often use to refer to her, did that because she wanted to protect Will Spencer (Crew Morrow).

Eric Forrester (John McCook) wasn’t wrong when he branded Will as a punk. That’s how he’s behaved in recent weeks, punching RJ Forrester (Brayan Nicoletti) on two different occasions.

It was during the second physical incident with RJ, at Bikini Bar, that Will missed his face and landed a hard right cross on Eric’s face. His left eye socket area was deeply bruised, with his ego speared as well.

Enter Melissa Dylan Into The Fray

Dylan fell in love with Will when meeting him. She recognized that he was committed to Electra Forrester (Laneya Grace) at that time but appeared to calculate that he wouldn’t stay with her.

Electra was too sweet and soft. Dylan saw herself as more of the type of woman that Will needed and would eventually realize that he wanted. So, Dylan bided her time and waited to pounce.

Bullock’s character has been woven into numerous scenes that allowed her to follow Will’s cascading downfall. Now, with Electra having used the word never, he is coming to grips with the first love of his life being inaccessible.

But Dylan has made herself available. She hasn’t pushed for any commitment, knowing that he’s not ready yet. But Dylan is there when he is, and she’s made sure that he knows it.

Electra Forrester Incensed By Betrayal

How many times has Electra helped and shielded Dylan?

The answer to the above question is many. Yet, Dylan hasn’t responded to that friendship with loyalty. She’s had her eye on Will and was ready to be there for him the moment he learned that Electra was done with him.

Going along with Wyatt’s advice, Melissa is encouraging Will to move on, meaning that he should do so with her. Meanwhile, Electra believes that she’s grateful to have become her assistant at Forrester Creations.

That position seems likely to be very short-lived, with yet another employee being pushed off the yacht. That plot point will ignite a war between Electra and Dylan that will further complicate Will’s life.

Has Britt Become Unbearable To Watch?

Clearly, we are talking about Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) as it seems like there has been a change in opinion about the character, and let’s just say that it hasn’t been very favorable.

As a matter of fact, some people think that Britt has become quite unbearable to watch, and it seems like there’s a good reason for it. She’s someone who hasn’t treated people like Emma very well and what she did to Lulu and Dante is unforgivable according to some viewers.

Not only that, but it’s also been said that she’s constantly hurting people and acting like she’s the true victim.

Of course, many GH fans had a lot to say about the matter on social media.

Some even commented with, “I’ve always hated Britt. She’s an unapologetic you know what.. I don’t care how long ago it was that she was mean to Emma, she was a child and Britt was a grown ass woman. That’s just evil.”

What’s Next For Britt?

“She acts like Lulu & Dante should just be over what she did to them and not hold it against her. She stole their baby!! She’s ridiculous.”

Another critic wrote, “It feels like all the character progression Britt made after finding out she had an incurable illness and later saving Joss has been squandered. She needs to dial down the Britchiness with Lucas though since he lost the love of his life trying to save hers!”

And then there was this comment as well: “Britt is funny, but the woe is me act is wearing real thin. She actually angry debates people who point this out, because she apparently sees it as an attack on her core identity.”

This week’s interesting person from history is Edward ‘Monk’ Eastman, who wasn’t your typical New York gangster. He could be a very vicious man, and yet he cared deeply for street cats and pigeons. Read on to find out more about the colorful character.

Raised By His Grandpa

Edward ‘Monk’ Eastman was born around 1875, and some sources say his birth name was Edward Osterman. His father was a Civil War veteran who left the family. His grandfather, George Parks, ended up raising him on the Upper East Side.

Parks helped the young man start a pet shop on Broome Street, and it was a real business, but it also served as a front for criminal activities. Monk listed his job as “bird seller” on official paperwork, and he genuinely loved his animals.

Back in the day, people often encountered him walking through the city with a pigeon on his shoulder or a cat under his arm. Around this time, he started a bicycle club called the Squab Wheelmen. According to historical write-ups on Academic Dictionaries and Encyclopedias, his group used bicycle rentals to run a racket on the side.

Ruler of the Lower East Side

Soon, Monk turned his attention to the Lower East Side. He built one of the most feared street crews in Manhattan. The Eastman Gang ran gambling joints, brothels, and protection rings. They dressed up like fancy dandies in top hats, even while beating people up, and historians note that they worked closely with Tammany Hall, the local political machine.

Monk’s crew acted as “sluggers,” beating up voters and stuffing ballot boxes to keep politicians in power. In return, the police looked the other way even when they fought a long war against the Five Points Gang, led by Paul Kelly. Dozens of men traded gunshots in broad daylight during these street battles.

As noted by Alchetron, Monk was often described as “the last of the old-school street thugs” before organized crime became more like a corporate business. He liked to handle fights personally. That hands-on style eventually caught up with him.

Prison and Downfall

In 1904, cops caught Monk mugging a man on the street, and as a result, a judge sent him to Sing Sing prison for ten years, but he didn’t actually serve his full sentence. Without him, his empire broke apart. Rivals shot his acting boss, Max Zwerbach, and took over his territory. When Monk got out in 1909, his empire was completely gone.

His life continued to spiral downwards and later it involved an opium addiction, and the police arrested him again for drug possession in 1912, and later for burglary in 1915. He served another stretch of time at Dannemora prison.

A Surprising War Hero

In 1917, the United States entered World War I when Monk was 42 years old, but he enlisted anyway. When army doctors checked his body, they found it covered in knife scars and bullet holes, and according to an account published on WorldWar1.com, when asked how he got those marks, Monk casually answered that he got them in “a lot of little wars around New York.”

He shipped out to France with the 27th Infantry Division. Out on the Western Front, he fought bravely, and served with distinction with accounts crediting him with repeatedly rescuing wounded comrades under fire.

His brave service earned him a full pardon from New York Governor Al Smith in 1919. His citizenship rights were restored, and Monk marched down the street in victory parades as a celebrated war hero.

The End of the Line

Sadly, the story didn’t have a happy ending. On December 26, 1920, somebody shot Edward ‘Monk’ Eastman dead in an alley near Union Square. The shooter was Jerry Bohan, a corrupt Prohibition agent who had been drinking with Monk. At the time, they got into an argument about money.

As detailed by City of 72 Names, over 4,000 people attended the funeral of Edward ‘Monk’ Eastman. Veterans from the 27th Division gave him full military honors, which seemed like a surreal send-off given his start in life as a gang leader. The crowd chose to remember the soldier who fought in the trenches rather than the thug who once ruled the streets with a pigeon on his shoulder.

Steve Burton’s return to ‘General Hospital’ on July 13 had fans reeling over his character Jason Morgan’s new haggard appearance.

Morgan has been missing from the show for a while, and the last time we saw him, he was an impassive but handsome man. Gone are those days.

Needless to say, his new reality did not exactly sit well with fans, so Burton has decided to explain the real purpose of the transformation.

Steve Burton Reacts To Negative Fan Talk Over His ‘GH’ Character’s Appearance

Burton addressed the issue during a recent episode of ‘That’s Awesome,’ which the star co-hosts with friend Bradford Anderson (Spinelli).

Chatting on the latest episode, Burton noted that the reaction to his character’s return on ‘GH’ has been veering more towards negative chatter based on his character’s appearance alone.

“So glad you’re back, but… then all the negative starts,” Burton said, adding that fans would go on to wonder things like, “What’s wrong with his hair?” and “What happened to his face?”

“Someone literally said, ‘He took time off to get work done and to elongate his forehead,’” Burton recalled the fan comment, promptly bursting into wild laughter at the ridiculousness of the idea. “I said, ‘Who wants a five-head?’ We have a forehead. Like, who would want to make their forehead taller?”

After adding that some of the reactions around his character’s appearance revolved around his massive weight loss, he explained that every little change fans were nitpicking about was a “conscious decision.”

His character spent months in a WSB prison overseas in Jakarta before recently returning to Port Charles, and Burton thought that his appearance should reflect that.

“I’m like, ‘Okay, well, if I’m in jail, I should probably start slimming down,’” he said. “I’m gonna just kind of tighten things up, get a little leaner, just so I look a little more emaciated and then makeup can do what they do.

And then maybe people will go, ‘Yeah, he was somewhere for like, three months not really eating and got beat up and a lot of bad stuff happened to him.’”

He reminded fans that his character’s return to Port Charles was so swift he didn’t have time to truly recover from the effects that his time in prison have had on his body. “Makeup did a wonderful job,” Burton gushed. “This is why hair and makeup were nominated for an Emmy [this year].”

Steve Burton Reveals His Character’s New Look Was Intentionally Done To Fit the Plot

On the podcast, Burton would then go on to clarify that the physical transformation we see onscreen was done to fit his character’s story. It in no way reflects the life he’s been living.

“The hair change was intentional,” he said. “The weight loss was intentional. The makeup was intentional. It was all intentional, because I think I look pretty good right now!”
