A Halloween Trinket Tutorial AND GIVEAWAY!!!!!

Miz Paperglitter just landed in Superchickland! WOOT!

I am honored, the lovely Genevieve, asked me to do a guest blog post for her wonderful readers today. I am a paper crafting freak. I love all things paper and +LOVE+ printables!

I have been crafting like crazy for this past week using my printables ----I made tons of these kitty necklaces, packaged paper dolls and printed some sweet Halloween Money for the family kids! I personalized the money and am giving them away as reward money for good behavior :) Oh wait--what's that in the corner of that photo---could it be?

Oh heck yeah! Superchick Stash money!---holla!!!!!!!!!

Today I am sharing what I made the other day using some of the new Halloween printables in my shop.

First up, I made a Kitty Necklace using Shrink a Dink paper!
(Make sure you follow the manufacturer's instructions on printing and baking this Shrink a Dink paper, super chicas )

I took page 34 from the Halloween party kit (which has a large kitty and spider graphics on it) and printed it on Shrink a Dink paper. After printing it and letting the ink dry for 5 minutes, I cut the kitty out and punched one hole on each ear using a standard hole puncher.

Then I baked the kitty head (using the instructions that came with the paper). Look how small it got!

When the kitty head cooled off a bit, I took awesome Martha Stewart glitter and decorated my kitty charm and threaded it on a chain I bought at Jo-Anns. BUT WAIT--that's not the end--little girls like things in pretty packages so I HAD to package this! So then……

I printed a green pattern from the same kit on cardstock paper and punched 2 little holes in it using a 1/8 hole punch...

Cut slits on each side to meet the holes…

Then placed my kitty chain on the back card.

Look how thick that Kitty charm is--this Shrink A Dink stuff is amazing!

Then using a cello bag to insert the back card and charm in, I topped it off with a personalized bag topper card from the Halloween kit! Sweet, huh?

DIY ~ Crêpe Paper Flowers!

DIY ~ Crêpe Paper Flowers!

Hello, I am so excited to be guest posting on Celebrate TODAY... the superchick way! I am getting ready to have a birthday party for my girls in a few weeks and I am in the planning stages. I recently ordered the most adorable Little Red Riding Hood party Kandy Kones™ from Genevieve and she included the most darling crêpe Paper Streamers!

(I know, I know... I ROCK that way!!! HeeHee ~ Genevieve)

I have seen these used all over the party world and love them. I was recently on one of my new favorite sites Pinterest and found this picture and pinned it.

The problem was when I went to the link, http://lefrufrublog.blogspot.com/2011/03/una-festa-di-carta.html it wasn't a detailed picture tutorial AND WASN'T IN ENGLISH!

So I have recreated it for you today with a couple of changes.

I hope that you enjoy it!

First you will need your crêpe paper, you can sew down the center of one color roll or use two different colors like I did.

Say it, I'm totally SHAMELESS!!!

Ok... back to you T! lol

Next you will need to cut one edge of the paper. In the picture I found on Pinterest they used a scalloped scissor, however, my dollar store scallop scissor would NOT work so I used my pinking shears for a different look and they worked great.

I then measured out 3 feet of crêpe paper and cut it so that all of my flowers will be the same size.

You will now want to get a needle and thread it with a matching color of thread and start to thread through the crêpe paper on the opposite edge. (not the edge that you just cut)

Once you go all the way through the crepe paper strip with your needle and thread you will want to roll up the crêpe paper again.

Now for the fun part, start pulling on the needle and thread while holding the flower to pinch in the end. Turn over your flower to make sure it looks the way you want it.

You then want to put a stitch or two through the center to make sure the layers stay in place...

and you are finished!

You know that moment when the sky opens up and the angels start singing?!!! Yeah, totally happened when I found The Country Creek Winery!

They have a military truck AND a helicopter on the property? WHAT???!!! TOTAL SCORE!!!

I nearly fainted! Seriously!

What's a party without garlands right?! Well mine SCREAM different!

Why?! Cuz I used plastic bullets!

CRAZY COOL!

I needed MORE so I hot glued plastic army men to my Triple Crêpe Paper Streamers! AWESOME Punch!

In addition to their "body targets" guests took home a Camo Cake Slice Box designed by my girl Pamela Smerker from Party Starters!

They were filled with candy of course!

Authentic cartridge boxes housed plastic grenades! ...which were sound activated to BOOM!

(I found the grenades at my local $Store!)

EPICE HIT!

To keep the boys entertained, we invited Tom, a war veteran, to "show & share" his military stuff!

My gf Tammie found Niko authentic Air Force BDU's (Battle Dress Uniform)!!!

She EVEN arranged for her son, AFJROTC 1st Lieutenant Steven Berry to present my bday dude with his SUPER SPECIAL gift!

He was in TOTAL AWE!

LOVING the camo netting!

Let me wrap up by saying that this party was freakin AWESOME!

"Military Man" Party! ~ Part ONE

I think it's about damn time I feature my kid's "Military Man" party!

His birthday was in freakin December!!!

What can I say, I'm a posting SLACKER!

Whatevah!

The party was a ridiculous success and bottom line, that's what matters!

I'm happy to report that in Niko's eyes, this event qualified me for a "Mom Of The Year" award!

He was ALL SMILES the entire day and thanked me profusely... for weeks!

What more could a mom ask for?!

So...

Whoop! Whoop! Yay ME!

Looking back, it's hard to believe he stomped his feet at the mere mention of the words "theme" and "decorations"!

Niko: Mom, I'm to old for a "theme".

Me: But baby, you're only 9!

Niko: My friends'll laugh at me. (mean face)

Me: Honey, it's gonna rock, TRUST ME!

Niko: Fine, but NO decorations.

LMAO

I chose a “Military Man” theme for TWO reasons.

1- Clearly, Mr. "I'm too old for a theme"' is a total war/army, Nerf gun & paint ball FREAK!

2- The color palette was a NO BRAINER! Greens and browns were a must… w/ a “camouflage” print of course! Done!

EASY. RUGGED. MATURE.

This is the "sneak peek" a leaked months ago!

I purchased both “authentic” and “faux” deco elements! The ammunition boxes, camo netting and old bullets were totally REAL!

The boys LOVED that!!!! I found them at an Army surplus store for way cheap!

The hats, plastic grenades, paper products and masks were bought at my local party store!

The "smash" cake was store bought ($7) and pimped up with simple chocolate chips! I used my Kandy Kones™ minis as crazy cool cake toppers!

YES! I hand painted each ball to mimic camo!

These INSANELY GORGEOUS cookies blew me away! I mean for the love of Jack, look at'm!!!!

Sara Dandy from Dandy Delights has EPIC talent and will forever be my "go to" cookie girl!

Guests enjoyed "hot chocolate" cupcakes baked by my gf Stacy Brennan from Scrumptious Swirls!

Kristy Stephenson from Posh Pixels Design Studio created my kickass printables!!! K's a totall rockstar and was so much fun to work with!

I used old crates to display the spectacular cupcakes! The look was PERFECT! No way a traditional cupcake stand would have worked here!

Think outside the box superchicks! It's always worth it!

Helmets turned upside down made perfect snack bowls! I also used galvanized buckets!

Camo colored jelly beans! Genius I know!!! The kids got lucky with watermelon & root beer flavors cuz if the flavors had been snot and puke, oh well! It was all about the palette!

Kandy Kones aren't just for candy! I filled them with these tiny Dough a Deer donuts!

These lollies were too freakin cool NOT to be included!

My interview with Jessica!

Q ~ What inspired you to "JUST DO IT" and start your own business?!

A ~ I’d have to say the list I created for my “Before Birthday goals” is what finally pushed me to open up an Etsy shoppe offering P.I.Y. (print-it-yourself) invitations, announcements, party accessories and digital art.

Q ~ What do you love most about doing what you do?!

A~ My favorite part is that it is ever-changing. I am easily bored and therefore working on new projects, designs and events always keeps me challenged and excited!

Q ~ Event stylist?! Graphic Artist?! or... (insert title here)!!!

A ~ How about “designer”. Design plays such an instrumental part in every aspect of what I am passionate about. From blogging, creating invitations, decorating my home, hosting a party, photography, craft projects, etc. Yes...I think ”designer” is all inclusive.

Q ~ What would you say makes you stand APART from your competitors?

I’d have to say the fact that I’m able to fully engage in every aspect of event planning - from creating the invitation to planning the event to photographing the details to baking some of the goodies - it actually allows me to execute an event from concept to completion.
I’m able to set the stage for the event by designing the invitation myself and then the details unfold and are even determined at times by what I think will photograph best or what new recipe I’m excited about or even how I can incorporate the things I’ll be using at the party into my home decor afterwards. I think I’m privy to foresight into things other people may not consider because I have experience and knowledge in so many different crucial aspects of the entire process.

Q ~ What event planning trend are you crushing on right now?

A ~ Hmmmm....I ADORE dessert tables. Design and dessert. The perfect combination for a lover of design desserts. They are my favorite thing to do. It allows me to have a visual focus on the event and it actually ties in all of details in one nice, very sweet place.

Q ~ How do you juggle so many balls?! HeeHee @ the word "balls"!!! :P

A~ I ask myself that every morning. There are days I do better than others and there are many days where I feel I’ve failed miserably. I think it’s a continual process of self-discovery - learning what works for your own family...learning how much time a particular task takes...and ultimately being willing to accept that things aren’t going to be perfect or that everything is going to get done - especially when you want it to. I have to say the best thing I’ve done for my business and family is waking up at 4a.m. everyday. Some people are night owls but I perform best by getting to bed early and getting a jumpstart on my day before the kids wake up.

Q ~ Which combo best describes you?! "high-maintenance and catty"? "chill and sweet"? or "sassy and posh"?

A ~ Your descriptions crack me up...high maintenance would not describe me personally - as far as my hair, etc. However, my expectations for perfect party details or how I decorate my home would certainly fall into that category. Only because I’m always striving for something unique and different and for some reason, what I think is a “normal” request always seems to turn into something difficult. (Ex. I’ve always wanted a really long harvest table for our family to sit at. After much searching, I realized my request isn’t something easily found at retail stores so we ended up having to have one made). I guess I just don’t like to “settle”. If I have a vision in my head...I’m really hoping for that end result and settling for something “similar” just doesn’t seem to be an option. (not that I haven’t compromised...trust me...there’s been plenty of that)! *wink*

Personality-wise, I think I’m pretty sweet. I’m always careful not to hurt anyone’s feelings or step on people’s toes. Sometimes I place more imporatance on the feelings of others more than my own. (which isn’t always a good thing). I can BE sassy and posh but that’s not who I am most days.

Q ~ Do you consider yourself to be a "superchick"?!!! ;-)

Top 5 Party Items:

1. White plates/dishes - One of the best investments I've made for entertaining is the set of plain white plates (and other serving pieces). I've added to my collection over time, buying from places like the Dollar Tree, Marshalls, and TJMaxx. Each plate was priced at $1 or $2 a piece. I layer theme with napkins, chargers, or other colored/patterned plates to coordinate with any design or theme I'm working on at the moment.

2. Flowers - I learned a long time ago that flowers can literally transform any tabletop design from pretty good, to fabulous! Flowers can do several things: they add pops of color to coordinate or contrast with the party colors; they add a bit of "life" to the design; they always add elegance whether they are peonies or wild flowers; and they just help create a “finished“ look to the setting.

3. Fabric - Another thing I like to incorporate into my own party designs is patterned fabric. Similarly to flowers, fabric can elevate the look and feel of a party to one that is a little more sophisticated and chic. You can use the same pattern for a table runner or napkin ties, and then again as a backdrop to the dessert table. Not only does it create visual interest but it ties the two areas together for a unified look.

4. Tape & Hot Glue - For me, these two items literally hold my parties together! I use regular tape, double sided tape, duct tape, or heavy duty packing tape depending on the job. I use my hot glue gun in place of sewing. It works so well on fabric because it’s a porous material. Super Glue works great for fixing the inevitable break now and then.

5. Spray Paint - Spray paint is your friend! If you have a white bird cage but need a black one for an event - spray paint! If you have an old gold frame and need it to be purple for a birthday party - spray paint! You get the picture.

OMG I so HAVE to share cuz I'm seriously peeing myself thinking back to this morning!

Being me totally ROCKS! Maybe cuz I'm such a damn DING DONG half the time! My life is so random!

So I'm sitting at my local Target Café wolfing down popcorn with my kid when I accidentally miss my mouth and drop said salty goodness down my shirt! Not like down to my belly button or noffin... just kinda between my boobs!

No big right?! Wrong!

It would seem as though...

1) looking down one's T in a public place to retrieve snacks

and

2) eating the rescued treats like it's no big deal

...is NOT ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR! LMAO

Who knew?!!!

I know this now cuz the man sittin at the table across from me SPAT out soda while his colleagues smirked at me all flirty faced!!!

Oops!!! Got it, BAD MANNERS!

But oddly enough, this faux pas got me thinkin...

I really DO live in a funtime bubble! (AKA Superchickland!!!) While some might have been mortified, I burst out laughing, shook my head and smiled! Who cares!!!

Cuz come on, it was totally FUNNY!!!

Or maybe... readjusting the girls after the fact is what caused such a stir?! (wink)

How I've MISSED YOU!!!

If you're a stalker, you've noticed that as of late, I've been kinda MIA.

Truth be told, I flew to Paris, became a burlesque dancer and have been partying like a rockstar for weeks!

ROTFLMAO!

Ok, not so much, but it makes for FABU fiction right?!

It's time to dish and make it official! The truth is... I'm skipping town! (For real!)

After a 12 year party in Philly, I've decided to pack up my life and jet back to my roots!

I'm moving to Canada!!! Montreal to be exact! And although it's a HUGE move, totally insane and crazy spontaneous, it speaks to who I am!

That said, while I PROMISE to do my very best to keep making you smile, my posts might be a tad sporadic for a while!

For now, my plan is to gear down my own projects and focus on pimping out YOURS!

In Hannah's world BIRTHDAY also means Groundhog Day!!

Can I just say, I LOVE when a client thinks outside the traditional box! Bravo Jennifer!

What better way to create interest then by rocking the contrast between winter and spring right?!

I love me some good juxtaposition!

I contacted my girl Autumn from ALD and asked her to design a "cute critter" and as always, she nailed it!!

Crafting the invitation was child's play!

Because NO ONE superchicks a cookie like Sara from Dandy Delight, party favors were a done deal!

OMG!!! Seriously, How FREAKIN FABULOUS are these?!!!

Hannah's Posh Party Pretties included our wildly popular kandy kones, a tiara and wand and a custom banner!

I stabbed a snow covered mound with a pair of GIANT Kandy Kones and attached the banner!

(...and yes, I thought to laminate the paper!)

My sweet treat suggestions are always beyond simple!

For this even...

1 - Chocolate chip cookies dabbed with frosting and topped with "melted snowmen". (Fairytale Frosting)

2- Snowmen lollipops from the local DOLLAR TREE.

3 - Kandy Kones filled with candy coated chocolate balls.

4 - white cotton candy! (Cuz it looked like SNOW!)

5 - I didn't forget the birthday cake! Hannah's mom will send "real party pics" ASAP! ;-)

Oh and check this out... I used real snow to prop the lollies!

After about an hour the tray was laked, but WHATEVAH! It was cool while it lasted! ;-)

5 things the Pug Parties with…

1. Whiteware. I have collected whiteware pieces for years. Serving platters, bowls, trays. White always looks fresh, clean and modern. White works with any partyscape. Timeless and effortless. Love.

(What the hell is "whiteware" you ask?! I got your back! Look, I found you a pic! lmao)

2. Galvanized EVERYTHING. I have an enormous collection of galvanized pails, cans, bowls, and containers in every size, shape and form. I use them for every. single. event. Dollar spot at Target, Joann’s, Home Depot or Galvanized Pails.

3. Microfiber tablecloths. I always try to use real tablecloths whenever possible. Microfiber tablecloths just rule. Rarely have to iron them and stains come right out. For polished party presentations. You can purchase at Kohl’s.

4. Spring loaded scissors are my weapon of choice. I always have them handy at any event I am styling. You always need scissors and these rock. Joann’s.

5. I always roll with my handy carry-all tote. I use this for parties at home and away. When party day comes, I throw all my essentials in here so I can easily find whatever I may need. Scissors, double stick tape, ribbon, putty, rubber bands, safety pins, band aids, extra camera battery, Vodka {totally kidding, just wanted to see if you were paying attentionJ} My tote keeps me organized and seriously hip. I purchased mine here. You can also buy non-monogrammed ones at Homegoods or Target.

S'more Cupcake... à la SUPERCHICK!

I've been CRAVING S'mores for DAYS! (PMS is such a bitch)

Plus, I've had this crazy cupcake idea literally prancing around in my head for weeks! So, in an effort to satisfy my hankering AND avoid insanity I figured WTH, "It's now or never"!

Let's BAKE bomshells!

FYI - ANYONE can make these! And trust me, you'll look like a freakin ROCKSTAR! LMAO

STEP 1 - THE CHOCOLATE!

Start by baking your fave chocolate cupcakes! I used Betty! Easy enough right?!

Carve out a hole and fill with chocolate frosting! (Again, HELLO Miz Betty!)

I'm sure there are freaky fancy tools for this kind of stuff but I used a butter knife to cut and a ziploc bag to pipe!

I rock!!!

STEP 2 - THE GRAHAM!

What's a S'more without a graham cracker right?! WRONG! Graham crackers are SO LAST YEAR! I'M thinkin... HONEY Teddy Grahams! Way sweeter!

Smash the crap out of a handful of bears (FUN!) and place crumbs on a plate.

Do this NOW cuz you won't have time later! Trust me!

STEP 3 - THE MARSHMALLOW!

Pop a marshmallow on top of your cupcakes and broil for a minute.

Then squish it down with a spoon!

Superchick tip: To avoid a sticky mess, spray the back of your spoon with cooking spray!

I know right!!!

SO FREAKIN CLEVER! LOL

STEP 4 - DIP and ROLL

STEP 5 - GARNISH

SWEET JESUS!!! I just ate 3!!!

Last week I received an email from Genevieve (aka Superchick/Celebrate Today… the Superchick Way) inquiring to know if I would be interested in writing a guest post for her blog. So, here I am today (*cheesin*) writing my guest post! This is my very first guest post for any blog so please bare with me … I will do my absolute best not to bore you to death. So, let’s get this party started and let’s “Celebrate Today … the SuperTISH way!”

I was given a bloggy mission by the Superchick… mission: focus your post around entertaining. The first thing to come to mind was entertaining for Valentine’s Day. Now, maybe that was a little predictable, but I bet you didn’t predict… that I would be sharing TEN FREE Valentine’s Day printable files!

Before we get to those lovely printables – I’ve decided to break the “Valentine’s Day” entertaining post into 5 different sections:

“All My Single Ladies”
“Frugal Love”
“A lil Something Extra”
“Cool Candy Kid”
“Facebook Love”

All My Single Ladies

Okay so does the thought of Valentine’s Day make you cringe? Does the sight of all the pink and red products and fluffy stuff animals in your local Wal-mart annoy you? Are you seriously considering sending yourself flowers and candy AGAIN?

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe you don’t need a significant other to celebrate Valentine’s Day or better yet… did you know that you have SINGLE GIRLFRIENDS/BOYFRIENDS!?

That’s right let’s make this Valentine’s Day about you and your single friends this year. After Googling 1,000 websites I found absolutely nothing (sorry)! Just Kidding… I found some awesome ideas and maybe you’ll find something useful you can incorporate into your V-day and make it special this year:

1. Single Cruises: These cruises are awesome and usually cost $100.00 or less! Round up a group of your friends and wear your favorite red/black dress, eat a lovely dinner, dance, laugh, and meet new people! Just Google “Valentine’s Day Single Cruises” in your area.

2. Movie Night: Round up a group of your friends/family and make it a movie night! Just sit around indulge in chocolate and watch all of your favorite movies. You can even do a “gift exchange” pull names out of a hat and buy each other Valentine’s Day gifts. The opportunity to spend time with people you already have “relationships” with (family/friends) is what Valentine’s Day is all about.

3. Throw a Party: Throw a small intimate party for yourself and several of your “single” friends/family. Find a theme you’re interested in and entertain! If you don’t want to throw an “adult” party you can have the kids join in and have a “Single Parent” party filled with activities (i.e. baking and decorating heart shaped cookies, crafting cards, playing board games, playing the Wii, etc.)

Frugal Love

So, you’re a cheapskate and you want to do something special for your significant other, but really don’t have the money. Well, I found the cutest idea on: The City Sage Blog

This beautiful tablescape cost the designer only $60.00 and if you’re a true party girl to the heart then it would most likely cost you NOTHING, because you already have all of the supplies! As you can see the table was covered with three different colors of Crepe Streamers (which usually average about $1.25 each), three candle holders and candles, four candy dishes, four glass plates, silverware, and some sweets thrown in here and there and voila!
