ABC Cancels Soaps All My Children and One Life to Live

How is Susan Lucci going to get nominated for Emmys now? ABC announced that long running daytime mainstays All My Children and One Life to Live will go off the air in September and January, respectively. Both soaps are being replaced by health-related talk shows. The twin cancellations will leave James Franco’s playground General Hospital as the network’s only remaining daytime drama. And just four soaps total will be on the air — General Hospital on ABC, Days of Our Lives on NBC, The Young & The Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful on CBS.
The network also announced the shows’ replacements, are a Mario Batali-hosted food show called “The Chew” will premiere in September, and a health/lifestyle transformation show called “The Revolution” featuring Project Runway’s Tim Gunn, trainer Harley Pasternak and Kimberly Locke, who completed in the second season of American Idol. Premiering in January these hosts and a revolving pool of contributors will “help viewers transform all areas of their lives, from relationships to family, food, style, home design, finance and more,” according to ABC’s announcement. So are Soaps a dying breed now or will they get popular again in the future?

I was afraid this was going to happen. As I have mentioned many times before, Charlie Sheen‘s soon-to-be-ex-wife Brooke Mueller is a serious addict who has allegedly been in and out of rehab quite a few times in the last couple of years. Just a couple of months ago Brooke admitted to relapsing and was doing rehab to recover. Caught in the middle of their parents addictions and unstable behavior are their 2-year-old twin boys, Bob and Max. They were removed from Chuck’s home in L.A’s upscale Mulholland Estates on March 1st in line with a court order obtained by Mueller, who has since being caring for the twins at an unknown address. Brooke knows her sobriety is the only thing that can keep her kids from going back to Charlie but she seemingly can’t stop herself from falling off the wagon and it may have happened again. Brooke allegedly only found out early Thursday that she’d have to report to a Los Angeles testing facility to provide a urine sample and she panicked. According to Radar sources, Mueller was frantically calling friends babbling about not wanting to lose her kids and begging for their pee.
A friend of Brooke’s told RadarOnline: “Brooke admitted to relapsing. She hasn’t been returning calls, which usually means she’s using. She’s absolutely freaked out that this potential dirty test could result in her losing custody of their twins (Bob and Max) to Charlie.”
I know Brooke has serious addictions but I just feel so angry at this woman for constantly letting her young children down. She’s 33 years old, about to be wealthy and single again and she just can’t stop being a party girl.

Those in charge at ‘Dancing with the Stars’ have tried many stunts to get ratings, but they’ve now got one they don’t seem thrilled about – Karina Smirnoff has posed nude in Playboy.

The 33-year old Ukranian-born star has been dancing since she was five and has won no less than ten national contests. Now the highly-toned form such success has created is draped across the pages of Playboy, and Karina has no problem with that;

‘As a dancer I’ve always embraced my body,’ she explains in the magazine’s write-up. ‘I’m thrilled to show off my physique and celebrate my sexiness. To me, sexy is the confident energy a person produces. Sexy is not just having beautiful lips, legs and arms; Sexy is soul.’

Such wisdom, however, may go unnoticed as fans peruse the ten images that appear in the mag. Most show her almost fully uncovered, but in one she’s captured in just ballet shoes with a red ribbon draped round her arms.

Karina became engaged to Detroit Tigers’ pitcher Brad Penny in October, but there are no plans for marriage so far. Meanwhile on the show she’s danced with ‘The Karate Kid’ star Ralph Macchio, Billy Ray Cyrus, and even Jersey Shore’s Mike Sorrentino.

As you might expect the suits in charge at DWTS have had quite a problem with one of their stars getting bare for a men’s magazine. But an insider says that’s just more infantile hype for the show;

“They did know ahead of time and they still gave her one of the best pairings,” we’re told.

Demi Lovato claims past problems lead to nervous breakdown

Yesterday we told you about Demi Lovato and her return from rehab. Well, there’s more to come. In an interview in next month’s ‘Seventeen’ she reveals part of what put her there;

In October the 18-year old former actress was nearly arrested for punching a backup dancer on the Jonas Brothers tour. Today she admits she regrets that.

“Lashing out was my cry for help,” she now claims. “Who was I to do that? I’m very ashamed. I wasn’t in the right state of mind at all.”

Demi now says the whole thing happened because she ‘basically had a nervous breakdown.’

“I was really bad,” she admits. “My parents and my manager said, ‘You need to get help.’ It was an intervention.”

And the situation was made worse, so she says, by keeping her problems a secret.

“I don’t know if I actually wanted help because my eating disorders were my best friend,” she recalled. “Looking back on it, I just want to cradle my old self and tell her it doesn’t have to be this way.”

But rehab apparently helped;

“One of the reasons I was so unhappy was because I never embraced my emotions,” she expounds. “In treatment, all the negative things I did were stripped away.”

Part of the therapy involved classes in painting and knitting, but she also took the chance to reconnect with Selena Gomez. They talked every week.

“We didn’t really discuss what I was going through, we just talked,” Lovato recalls.

With rehab behind her – for now – her next plan is to help fans who might have the same problems. She’s joined ‘Seventeen’ as a writer and will now help teens find some answers;

“I’m excited to be working with Seventeen to help other teens cope with the problems we face,” she gushes at the News. “My fans have been an incredible support system. I hope I can repay this and help others learn from my experiences.”

David Arquette tells Howard Stern he hit on Courteney Cox

The fact that Courteney Cox has been seen with at least two other men since her split with David Arquette would show most guys it’s over. Not Dave. He’s just told Howard Stern he tried to hit on her during their trip to Disney World.

In March, Courteney, 46, returned from a vacation with ‘Cougar Town’ co-star Josh Hopkins, then visited Disney World with David and their 6-year old daughter.

And during his week-long internship on Howard’s show the 39-year old actor seemed almost eager to discuss what happened next;

“Listen, I tried to f— her, and she doesn’t even want me,” he told Stern. Then came this pearl of wisdom; “Oh, that’s probably something I shouldn’t have said.”

And this ham-fisted attempt at seduction began with the cheesiest come-on line you’ll hear this week;

“I said ‘This is the happiest place on Earth! Let’s make it happier!’” he admitted to Stern. “I mean, I love her. I love her with all my heart,” he then explained.

Stern then pressed for more info. “How far did you get? Just kiss?” he inquired.

“A bit,” Arquette answered. “It was like we were…eighth graders. Seventh graders.”

But despite the rejection David still firmly believes his wife and Josh Hopkins are no more than friends – thus disregarding acres of press that could crush this endearing delusion;

“We have a really honest relationship and that would have come up,” he insisted to Stern. “I knew that guy was going with her – it’s all open. She’s not sleeping with Hopkins. He’s a friend of ours.”

And after insisting Courteney and Josh were not creasing the sheets David then went on to give her the green light to not do it some more;

“We’re married but we’re not together, so she can do whatever she wants.”

…America’s wondrous achievements in rocket science are clearly no poorer for this man’s exclusion.

Charlie Sheen kicked off his 20-city tour April 2 in Detroit, and word is it didn’t go well. The Saturday night show reportedly began with thunderous applause from the estimated audience of just under 5,000 people at the beautiful Fox Theater, but ended painfully 70 minutes later. According to TMZ, Sheen’s haphazard act started with a Q&A session and then he played clips from a network interview he did and ripped it apart. That went on for about 30 minutes … and then the crowd got ugly. At one point, Sheen reportedly did tell a heckler, “Sorry dude, already got your money.”

John Mellencamp & Stephen King to bow musical next year

Stephen King is among the most successful writers of his generation, but he and John Mellencamp are about to unveil a new side of the author – “Ghost Brothers of Darkland County,” his first musical is set to open next year.

The pair have been working on the show for eleven years and have finally scheduled an opening night for April next year at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta, GA.

Created in the style of another writing legend, Tennessee Williams, it’s described as ‘a Southern-Gothic work” and is based on a true story John [seen here] wanted to create for the stage in the spirit of the great Mr. Williams.

One of Williams’ most famous plays is ‘A Streetcar Named Desire.’ Two of the main characters, Blanche DuBois and her sister Stella live in a house called Belle Reve. So in homage to their hero the two men set their story in a fictional Mississippi town called ‘Lake Belle Reve.’

The plot concerns the death of two brothers and how that haunted the play’s leading man, Joe McCandless for the last forty years. The two lost souls are now ghosts in a cabin to which Joe brings his own sons who seem determined to repeat this sad page of history themselves.

And the lineage on the play sounds first class – The music and lyrics are by John, the musical direction is by T Bone Burnett and the original story is by Mr. King.

The play was due to open in mid-2009 but got held up by script problems. It’s now set for April 4th of next year and should run for six weeks.

But if you can’t make the dates, don’t be concerned – When Stephen released ‘The Dark Tower’ in 1982 his publishers allowed an ‘extra large’ run of 500,000 copies. It has since sold 36-million.

Once his fans hear of the play an extension of dates is equally likely.

Hot mess Christina Aguilera and boyfriend detained by LAPD in DUI case

After the atonal fiasco at last month’s Super Bowl you’d be forgiven for thinking life for Christina Aguilera couldn’t get any worse. You’d be misinformed. Today the 30-year old singer was arrested in a DUI case.

Sources close to the LAPD say Aguilera was a passenger in a car driven by her boyfriend, Matthew Rutler. Officers noticed the car weaving all over the road in West Hollywood at around 2.45am this morning and did a traffic stop.

“The driver was determined to be driving while under the influence of alcohol and arrested,” says the statement released by Sheriff’s Deputy Bill McSweeney a few hours later.

Officers then noticed Aguilera was “extremely intoxicated,” so she was also taken into custody. Matthew is now in a holding cell at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s station and bail has been set at $30,000. Christina’s bill is $250.

Friends of the singer admit they’ve been trying to get Aguilera into a rehab program for weeks, after a list of drunken antics that keep getting worse – She had a fight with her mother at a New Year’s Eve party, spent all night drinking and crying at a club in LA called ‘The Dime,’ and even passed out in Jeremy Renner’s bed at his 40th birthday party on January 8th….to which she had not been invited.

“Her friends are fed up,” one source says. “She’s really spiraling. I’d be shocked if she’s not in rehab within a month.”

What question(s) would you ask Charlie Sheen if you were interviewing him?

I have been amazed at all the interviews (The Dan Patrick Show, The Alex Jones Show, Radar, TMZ, ABC, NBC, CNN (Piers Morgan) Charlie Sheen has done over the last few days, and the lack of tough questions that have been fired at him for the most part. For one thing I would love to ask Charlie, when was the last time he slept? And if he is such a ‘winner’ like he proclaims why does he date porn stars and have 3 broken marriages? And how about a follow-up question to his ‘warlock with tiger’s blood’ claim? And why does he thinks his fellow castmates, who he admits have not reached out to him once during this whole burst of media madness are not showing any solidarity?

I realize in his current state it’s not like you can expect a reasonable answer, but I think Charlie is starting to realize on occasion what he has gotten himself into after his longtime publicist, Stan Rosenfield, quit on Monday. Piers Morgan, asked Charlie if there was anything, he regretted saying during his recent media blitz. To which Charlie replied to his comments about “Two and a Half Men” creator Chuck Lorre, whom he called by his real last name and then a Hebrew version of his first name: Chaim Levine.

“Well, yes, I do, I regret it in a way that I didn’t even think about it,” Sheen told Morgan. “I should have thought about it. Stupid, stupid move.

“I thought the rules had been established,” he continued. “He calls me Carlos Estevez a lot, which is my real name, and then I saw the other name on his vanity card, and I said it, and the world just started burning down around me.”

Another big regret? The bizarre demand for a raise, to $3 million an episode, to do another season of “Two and a Half Men”. “No, that was stupid,” Sheen said. “I was joking about being underpaid but to come back, um, Season 10, but that’s all negotiable; you can’t talk about this stuff on television.”

Anne Hathaway, James Franco ‘hate each other,’ sources claim

Sunday’s telecast of the Oscars was watched by 37.6-million people, and if sources close to the show are correct, James Franco and Anne Hathaway must have wished they were among them;

The pair seemed friendly on screen but insiders claim the two hated each other after days of tense and endless rehearsals;

“She had to provide all the energy – he was just phoning it in,” one snitch tells Us Magazine. “James seemed in his own little world.” says another. “The producers were pissed.”

In news that may add substance to these claims it’s known that 32-year old James skipped a party arranged for him at ‘The Writers Room’ in LA after the show and left town at once;

“He immediately went back to NYC because he was pissed about how the show went,” another source assures us.

But don’t start making dolls of James and inserting the pins – his rep’s response makes this sound like nothing more than jealous Hollywood minions trying to get paid for fake scandal.

“This is absolutely not true,” is the feedback from Jim’s trusty rep. Anne’s assistant was equally dismissive;

“Anne had a wonderful experience with him,” they insist.

Meanwhile, people close to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts who run the whole soirée say calls are already being made to find next year’s host. So far, Hugh Jackman and Billy Crystal have both said they want to return.

I say let them do it together – it would be the first interesting Oscars in years!

Tim Burton, Josh Brolin prepping new ‘Hunchback’ film

The films of Tim Burton have a visual impact of which other directors can only dream. Now he and Josh Brolin are working on a film that could be the perfect example – ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame.’

Warner Brothers are in the early stages of development on the film, which Tim would direct. Josh would be both the star and a producer, and the script is being crafted by Kieran and Michele Mulroney who wrote the Sherlock Holmes sequel ‘A Game of Shadows’ for the same studio.

But the story is perfect for Tim – Published in 1831 it’s about Quasimodo, a deformed bell-ringer at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. He meets a poor gypsy girl, Esmerelda and their bond brings them nothing but pain. There’s love, betrayal, legions of soldiers, a hanging and more bodies and graves than even Tim could conceive. It’s a classic!

And Tim may be the only director who could find a new way to tell a story this famous. First made as a film in 1905 it’s been produced eleven times for the big screen, three times for TV, twice as a play and ten times as a musical…So it needs a fresh mind.

The snag so far is commitments – Josh is in charge of the project and he’s firmly on board. But Tim is in preproduction on ‘Dark Shadows’ with Johnny Depp and won’t commit until he sees a script. So the whole thing could still fall apart.

But can 43-year old Josh really play another deformed hero? He starred as Jonah Hex for Warners last year and that was a critical and box-office bomb, so history does not suggest good times in Paris.

Tim’s gift for visuals could make this the most original telling of the story in years. But Josh as a hunchback might not appeal to his fans. The movie is not even in casting but give us your views – would you go and see it?…

Tom Cruise Confirmed to Take Lead in ‘Rock of Ages’ Movie

The rumors have been confirmed! Tom Cruise will play a heavy metal rocker in the big screen adaptation of the popular Broadway musical ‘Rock of Ages.’ The film’s director Adam Shankman admitted the rumored casting to Ryan Secrest on the red carpet at the Oscars, reports Us Magazine.
Cruise, 48, is set to play fiction metal singer ‘Stacee Jaxx’ and will be singing the Bon Jovi classic ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’ in the film. When asked how the ‘Mission: Impossible’ actor was when it came to singing, Shankman replied that “He’s studying his vocals. He can sing! It’s a miracle.”
‘Rock of Ages’ is set in 1987 on the Sunset Strip, where a small town girl meets a big city rocker in LA’s most famous rock club, and they fall in love to the greatest songs of the ’80s.
In the photo above, Cruise set tongues wagging last weekend when he attended a performance of Rock of Ages in LA with wife Katie Holmes.
Former American Idol contestant and Rock Of Ages leading man Constantine Maroulis, spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about the upcoming Rock of Ages film last week, and what he thinks of the casting news and rumors.
“I think the guy’s amazing, and I think he would just crush it,” he said of Tom Cruise. [Stacee Jaxx] would be a great role for him because he can use all his ability and put it into this character.”

Justin Bieber’s ‘Never Say Never’ to be remixed with new footage, re-released

Fans of Justin Bieber have been almost standing in line to see ‘Never Say Never.’ But the studio now has a scheme to make them all see it again; They’re considering releasing a remix in two weeks.
Most films that portray a band or artist in concert suffer steep losses in box-office income after 2-3 weeks, so Paramount are hatching a plan to release an ‘updated’ version that could include different performances, new scenes of Justin at the premiere and early screenings, and even new scenes shot at the Grammy’s on Sunday.
The man in charge of the film, John Chu, is already working on a ‘Director’s Cut,’ and the studio are waiting to see what he adds to that before deciding whether to release the remix in theaters or as a ‘Special Edition’ DVD.
You can certainly see the appeal – 84-percent of all the theaters showing the film use a digital copy, so the costs of sending them a new version would be trivial compared to the old-fashioned celluloid prints.
And most of the marketing would also be free – Justin has 7.3-million followers on Twitter and 21-million on Facebook. One word from him on each of those platforms and there’d be lines round the block.
As for the remix, Vulture says Chu has several days of concert material and over a dozen songs filmed before Justin reached Madison Square Garden that are not in the film’s current version. So a reboot would be easy.
And there’s more – Another idea the studio is mulling is letting you, the fans choose what gets replaced. If you hated Sean Kingston’s singing in ‘Eenie Meenie’ you could vote for that scene to be replaced by the Miley Cyrus duet ‘Overboard,’ which was shot at the MSG concert.
Personally I think this is a cold-hearted ploy by the studio to gouge double the profits from the same group of people. But what’s your review – Would you go see a remix? And which scenes would you vote to get cut?…

New daddy Sir Elton John is showing some tough love to fellow musician Billy Joel. Admitting that Billy is going to “hate him” for it, John told Rolling Stone in the Feb. 17 edition, that he and his former touring partner had to cancel many shows in the summer of 2009 because of Joel’s sicknesses and “alcoholism.” At the time some of the duo’s high-grossing tour were postponed supposedly because the 60-year-old Joel came down with “flu-like symptoms”. But Elton flat out states that Joel needs to take rehab more seriously and “do something better” with his life, the Associated Press reported. He also says Joel should do rehab like he did it – with patients cleaning floors, not watching television. Joel has tried rehab for his alcohol issues on two occasions, a month in a California rehab center in 2005, and about two weeks at a Connecticut facility in 2002.
