Brett Ratner Quits Oscars After Dropping The Homophobic F-bomb

American filmmaker and music video director Brett Ratner claims he's officially 'resigned' as producer of the 2012 Academy Awards, after dropping the homophobic F-bomb at a media event Sunday night.

Brett Ratner - best known for directing the 'Rush Hour' movies - was at a fan Q&A session for 'Tower Heist' Sunday when he told the crowd, 'Rehearsal is for f*gs.'

Now, he's penned an open letter, apologizing for the 'hurtful and stupid things I've said'... and adding, 'Having love in your heart doesn’t count for much if what comes out of your mouth is ugly and bigoted.'

Brett Ratner continued, 'Being asked to help put on the Oscar show was the proudest moment of my career. But as painful as this may be for me, it would be worse if my association with the show were to be a distraction from the Academy and the high ideals it represents.'

Ratner says he's been in contact with GLAAD - the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation - and he promises he will work to 'increase awareness of the important and troubling issues this episode has raised.'

'I deeply regret my actions and I am determined to learn from this experience.'

Tom Sherak - the President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - issued a statement saying, '[Brett Ratner] did the right thing for the Academy and for himself.'

'Words have meaning, and they have consequences, he added. Brett Ratner is a good person, but his comments were unacceptable. We all hope this will be an opportunity to raise awareness about the harm that is caused by reckless and insensitive remarks, regardless of the intent.'

Hilary Swank Sacked After Partying With The Chechen President

American actress Hilary Swank has been sensationally dropped by her publicists, in a move that's thought to be pre-emptive following the actress recently dropping her management of the previous eight years in the wake of last month's much publicised PR gaff.

The event in question occurred when Hilary Swank, alongside action film star Jean-claude Van Damme, singer Seal and violinist Vanessa-mae attended a birthday celebration for Chechen President and alleged Human Rights violator Ramzan Kadyrov, an appearance that brought widespread criticism in the press.

Ramzan Kadyrov has a string of allegation against him, most recently Reuters reported that the devout Sufi Muslim had ordered several businesses to cover up the bare heads of woman in their workplaces, a source saying 'authorities walked around the area, ripping off ads with women pictured in them. They told us that ads displaying women without headscarves are banned'.

Hilary Swank was apparently largely unaware of these and other accusations and reacted on finding out by sacking long-time manager Jason Weiberg as well as agents Amie Yavor and Josh Lieberman, saying 'If I had a full understanding of what this event was apparently intended to be, I would never have gone.'

However Hilary Swank's publicists have turned against her, reports Entertainment Weekly, 42West dropping the two-time Academy Award winning actress following a disagreement as to how to deal best with the fallout from the October 5th 2011 appearance. As of yet however, they've offered no official comment on the matter.

Gabourey Sidibe Amassing Quite A Following On The Social Network Twitter

Precious and the upcoming Tower Heist star Gabourey Sidibe, is amassing quite a following on the social network Twitter.

The only problem for the up and coming actress is that she doesn’t have a Twitter account. The 28-year-old star said that the person impersonating her on Twitter is charismatic and popular with fans- but that the persona doesn’t match Sidibe’s fiery one at all. Gabourey Sidibe admits:

'Isn’t that crazy? I’m not on Twitter, I’m like a loser, I’m still doing Myspace… It’s so strange, because she’s really positive because she thinks I’m positive but I’m not- I’m a hateful person. She’s like, ‘I love you guys,’ and she’s like, ‘Good morning luvvies,’ I guess to, like, my followers, which is strange. She’s really uplifting and nice'.

That’s got to be a pain in the ass, huh? You’re a celebrity, people pretend to be you and they can’t even get the tone right. Gabourey Sidibe confirms that the fake-Gabby initially pissed her off and annoyed her mom Alice Tan Ridley, too. But, Sidibe said, the ersatz Gabby eventually won over her mother with her charismatic tweets:

'At first my mom and I were mad at her, like, ‘How dare you pretend to be like me?’ And then my mom was like, ‘Wait, people like her, she’s lovely, I’m going to follow her.

Gabourey Sidibe was talking Twitter on the chat show The Talk, where she was promoting her latest flick, Tower Heist. Tower Heist was released on November 2nd, and also stars Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller.

Andy Rooney Dies In New York City At Age 92

American radio and television writer Andy Rooney died Friday night in a hospital in New York City. Rooney had only made his final sign-off as a weekly commentator on the CBS show just over a month ago, and was reportedly in stable condition following complications from minor surgery last week.

Broadcasting legend and 60 Minutes fixture Andy Rooney’s final essay for 60 Minutes was a classic example of his trademark blend of clarity, humility and gracious wit. He concluded his last essay by giving thanks to those who had reached out to him over the years:

"This is a moment I have dreaded. I wish I could do this forever. I can’t though. But I’m not retiring. Writers don’t retire and I’ll always be a writer.

A lot of you have sent me wonderful letters and said good things to me when you meet me in the street. I wasn’t always gracious about it. It’s hard to accept being liked. I don’t say this often, but thank you. Although if you do see me in a restaurant, please, just let me eat my dinner".

Wyatt Knight Found Dead Of Apparent Suicide

Actor Wyatt Knight, who played bad boy Tommy Turner in the '80s trilogy 'Porky's,' was found dead in Hawaii last week after apparently committing suicide.

'I can confirm that Wyatt Knight did in fact end his life on October 25, in Maui, Hawaii,' his wife, Silvina, said in a statement obtained by E! News. 'The family is choosing to keep the details private.'

The Police reportedly discovered the 56-year-old actor's body the following day in an isolated area near the house where he had been staying. The results of an autopsy have not yet been released.

Wyatt Knight's manager, Eileen O'Farrell, told E! News that she is in complete shock over the news and has been trying to contact Maui police to get more information.

O'Farrell said, 'I haven't received any confirmation myself. I'm so surprised - sick - over this'. 'I can't believe it.'

In addition to the 'Porky's' movies, Wyatt Knight made numerous appearances on the small screen in shows such as Star Trek: The Next Generation, Chicago Hope, Pacific Blue and Profiler.

Per IMDb, Wyatt Knight's most recent role was playing a network executive in a series called Crafty.
