Speaking Out for Women's Rights on Intl. Women's Day

2016-03-08T19:04:00.001-08:00

Happy International Women's Day!

This year, I celebrated my free speech and freedom to assemble by taking to the streets of downtown Los Angeles to protest the global oppression of women in an Intl. Women's Day rally in front of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Last year, I had the honor of joining UN Women SoCal as their Keynote speaker for the Intl. Women's Day Celebration. The full UN UN Women Keynote highlight video has reached over 800,000 views since last March! Today, I posted a 90-second recap of my favorite moments from that speech.

This day always seems to inspire my inner she warrior and break my heart at the same time. While women continue to make strides towards equal rights, there are so many cases where we are unfortunately still oppressed.

I made this sign because I feel women suffer an insatiable thirst that can only be quenched with justice. Women are literally starving for equality when it comes to equal pay, work, and human rights. Women are dying for freedom from their oppressors, the sexual traffickers, the persecutors enslaving every aspect of their lives including their uteruses, the governments executing us for not conforming to their unjust patriarchal laws.

Thirsty for Justice, Starving for Equality, Dying for Freedom

There are countless shocking examples of human rights violations women are still battling in 2016; from lack of reproductive rights, to the forced sterilization of disabled women in Australia, honor killings across the Middle East and South East Asia, acid attacks, genital mutilations, forced marriage, sex trafficking, sexual violence and exploitation, innumerable, unspeakable abuses being suffered by women daily.

One of the most prevalent abuses, I see globally and commonly in the western world, is slut shaming. Many societies punish sexual empowerment, so extremely it even results in executions. If a woman is seen: dressed "immodestly," nude, breastfeeding, dancing with exuberance, walking down the street confidently, making eye contact with a man, or as sexually active; people are so quick to weaponize their opinions and react with verbal, physical, or emotional abuse. She WASN'T asking for it, and if we want to live in a free and open, civilized, society; I believe we must find tolerance for so-called "immodest" lifestyles that differ from our own. If someone's "immodest" behavior is a harmless self-expression, what gives us the right to become the judge, jury, and executioner? As someone who has grown up surrounded by classical art, I have always admired and appreciated the human form. It wasn't until I was exposed to puritanical belief systems and religious institutions that I was indoctrinated with the "virtues" of shame and discomfort around that most natural birthright in the world. I understand the importance of public decency and yet what I truly find indecent is the act of using someone's sexuality or nudity as a justification to abuse them. In the most extreme cultures women are stoned, hung, executed point blank, raped, or maimed for "immodest" attire. This horrific practice undermines the fundamental human right to life, liberty, and security of person.

If you find yourself unable to accept these realities, I encourage you to speak out against these violations both domestically and internationally. These organizations make substantial efforts towards the advancements of human rights including women's rights.

Tokyo Timewarp: Modern Geishas in Shibuya

2016-02-08T17:05:00.003-08:00

While staying in Tokyo's popular district of Shibuya at the Cerulean Hotel, I caught up with my friend Sasha Okamoto and Photographer Gregory Brown to capture the view and some street style.

Shibuya crossing is always buzzing, vibrant with about a million people per day. Together we melted into the crowds, followed the sights and sounds, with the click clacking of our wooden Geta shoes.

Fashion stylist Naomi Kubo unearthed a regal, antique, red kimono and an edgy, colorful, splatter yukata to create this stylish Tokyo timewarp for the modern Geisha.

We followed the paper lanterns lining the streets and the smells of grilled Yakitori chicken wafting thru billowing Noren fabric doorways.

Even in the heart of the city you can discover quiet, little, crevices, rich with texture and contrast.

It seems everywhere you turn there is a distinct Tokyo style and culture, that sets it apart from other areas of Japan.

Tokyo is a spirited muse that will always tug at my imagination. It is easy to get lost in the palpable energy of the city.

Makeup artist Yuri Kondo's editorial hair and makeup highlighted the East meets West heritage of both Sascha and I. When we shot at the Cerulean we transitioned the traditional musubi and obi belts into the modern leather belts for an avant-garde spin on kimono style.

Treasure Island: Bay Bridge to Nowhere

2015-09-12T14:59:00.000-07:00

...That time Low Tek Studios and I got down and dirty for a spontaneous photo shoot on Treasure Island in San Francisco. The location had kind of a Breaking Bad vibe, so we kicked it by the chain link fences and old turn knob TV sets for a lazy afternoon by the bay bridge.

I wore some edgy variations of the little black dress, with hi-low skirts, studs, metallic accents, and cut outs. We found wildflowers, water towers, and graffiti treasures around every corner. Then we stumbled upon a vacant pool filled with epic memorials a midst the abandon buildings. San Francisco has so many unique environments to get inspired by life and fashion.

Human Rights and #LoveWins for LGBT Pride Month

2015-06-27T15:55:00.001-07:00

I am so ecstatic about the marriage equality ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States. This is a wonderful advancement for equal rights, especially during LGBT Pride Month. In celebration, I wanted to share some thoughts on liberty and equality in America.

Freedom of expression and equal rights are two of the most important protections I enjoy as an American. I believe only you can determine who to love and what makes you happy. I hope we can create a standard of equality that will allow people to express themselves without a climate of prejudice. Being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender should not disqualify you from equal human rights. By speaking out for these human rights we can create a community and government that truly supports freedom and not discrimination. - Celeste Thorson

I was reminded of my #LGBT #activism 10 years ago with my #grassroots #family at Human Rights Campaign. We were the boots on the ground that met hate face to face, as we strove to build support for equal #humanrights #legislation. Some people politely declined to support #justice, others were kicking and screaming. Some people greeted us with open arms, some with gentle whispers. Today we can #celebrate this #equality, because #LoveWins when #activists #FightTheGoodFight for #justice. No matter how ugly the #hate, #standup #speakout and remember we are all born #free and #equal!

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

-Thomas Jefferson

Here are the values that I stand for: honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you want to be treated and helping those in need. To me, those are traditional values.

-Ellen DeGeneres

While in San Francisco, Cory Goldberg Images captured this series with my dear friend and fashion librarian, Shaye McKenney. We admired some intricate Japanese Kimono's from a private collection, rich with artistic details. More images from this series coming this summer.

The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider's web.

-Pablo Picasso

Art is the most intense mode of individualism that the world has known.

-Oscar Wilde

Some people may be offended by this artwork and respond with hatred. Which is more offensive, a photograph that represents love or the hatred it may trigger?

Do you believe love is boundless?

Do you believe love should be confined?

Celebrate Women's Rights and Gender Equality 365!

2015-03-31T00:19:00.000-07:00

I was honored when the ladies from UN WOMEN SOCAL invited me to join their International Women's Day celebration as a keynote speaker. Women's history month and Intl. Women's Day is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the past, present and future of women's contributions and obstacles. It was enlightening to share that special day with an inspiring group of women dedicated to supporting gender equality and women's rights.

I focused my speech on female leaders, equal rights, freedom of expression, empowerment through the arts, technical literacy, education, the #HeForShe movement, and the mobilization of activists through technology. A full transcript of the 15 minute speech is coming soon, but here are 4 minutes of my favorite moments.

UN Women SoCal President CeCe Sloan and her team Lori Vandermier and Kathy Carchidi Belmont put together a lovely event filled with art, poetry, film, and progressive discussions. Polina Hyrn hosted the event, Lori Vandermier spoke about the evolvement of the USNC and the #HeForShe movement. Other speakers shared ideas on climate change, women in the arts, and sexual expression. It was great to meet the attendees and hear about their experiences in activism, from saving the seals in San Diego to fighting corporate polluters in the 60's. Susan Taylor from the Museum of Latin American Art introduced many of us to the inspiring, radical art of Argentine painter, sculptor, and performance artist Marta Minujín.

Minujin in front of her "Tower of Babel" sculpture comprised of 30,000 books, featured in Plaza San Martin, Buenos Aires. Check out Minujin, the values communicated through her colorful tapestry of work are impressive, surreal, and poignant. Linnea Lenkus spoke about the beauty of sexual empowerment through photographic expression versus sexual objectification through pornography. Author Margarita Noguera gifted us with with her joyful participation and poetry.

CeCe Sloan reviewed the History of International Women's Day and shared Catherine Murphy's meaningful documentary short film "Maestra", about the 250,000 volunteers (more than 50% women) that drove the literacy movement in Cuba in 1961.

"MAESTRA explores this story through the personal testimonies of the young women who went out to teach literacy in rural communities across the island - and found themselves deeply transformed in the process." - MaestraTheFilm.Org

Funding for UN Women was successfully raised thanks to UN Women SoCal President CeCe Sloan, the SoCal chapter team, the female artists who donated beautiful artwork for the silent auction, the attendees, and the sponsors who all contributed to this important cause. Overall it was an educational experience that united artists, activist, and supporters. Thank you again UN Women SoCal for the opportunity to celebrate International Women's Day.

If you would like to support UN Women's goals to end violence, promote equality, education, and health for women, please donate your time and/or money here:

If you are short on time and/or money please spread the word online and promote women's rights whenever you can! #SupportHeForShe #WomensRights365

I donated postcards featuring the UN Women "One Woman" artwork, so attendees could mail them to thank a woman that inspires them because, I feel it is paramount to show our gratitude to the people who influence us positively. I invited the audience to share a pearl of wisdom on the postcards, so we could post them online and pass these life lessons forward. Here are some uplifting pieces of advice. These are important because education doesn't just happen in school in happens every day in the our communities. Please comment to leave your own words of wisdom.

Tribal Earth Warrior Series

It feels like the wind, that warm spark between our souls, we found each other.

- Celeste Thorson

Wild Haiku Warrior

A spontaneous creative session with Taren Maroun's artsy soul led to this whimsical earth warrior series.

I looked up and I saw hope.

All roads lead home. Never forget where you came from.

I felt the dawn dance on my skin.

I felt the peace of night descend.

Tell me your story. Teach me your song.

Meet me by the ivy and I will show you what I've seen.

Wild child.

There is a fire in the sky and she is a flame.

We played amidst the cacti, canyons, and ivy vines. The rich tones and textures from the natural surroundings complimented the warpaint style makeup. I love the rawness of this collection, it reminds me of my native ancestry. The handmade necklaces were collected during my travels through Bali and Mexico, mostly from street vendors.

Boho Beach Flower Crown in Malibu for Examiner

2015-01-22T13:33:00.000-08:00

While wandering around Paradise Cove in Malibu with Jennica Mae Photography and Elby Beauty we captured some sandy, bohemian, magic at dusk.

Love can be found in the most unexpected places...

in lighthearted starry nights or in trembling bright lights.

I loved the outfit: Boho burgundy lace dress, the rose flower crown, starfish ring, eye ring, gold bracelets, hand necklace, and brown wedge sandals. The berry lipstick and makeup added a sweet touch.

There is nothing like the feeling of being immersed in the beauty of nature, the gray sand slipping through my fingers, the peach kissed sky, rocky coast, and foamy water. Mama knows best.

"If you watch the flowing sand, you might see time itself riding the granules." Vera Nazarian

In my interview with Colleen Bement from the Examiner, I shared the shoot and discussed some of my latest film projects, animal rights, and one of my "hidden talents."

Art Deco Daydream in Venice: SNOWY WHITE MEMORY

2014-08-08T16:48:00.002-07:00

Some creative highlights from our Italian adventure were the fleeting moments of inspiration while strolling the streets of Venice. I enjoyed collaborating on this SNOWY MEMORY series in front of St. Maria Saluta Basilica with the talented photographer Filippo Ciappi.

We lucked out with a few magical moments in our hotel room at the Westin as gondolas drifted by on the Grand Canal. Then we had the chance to admire the Italian architecture and beautiful stone steps of the Semenario Partriarcale de Venezia. For me, this series conjures a ghostly and romantic interpretation.

I fashioned some natural makeup and wore a white and silver beaded gown by Aidan Mattox, my grandmother's antique diamond necklace and bracelet and my crystal hair brooch pinning an updo bun, he wore a black Hugo Boss suit and shoes. Special thanks to Filipo Ciappi and his assistant for seizing the day with us.

The Magical Masquerades of Carnival Venezia with Celeste Thorson

2014-05-19T14:05:00.000-07:00

La Vita Es Un Carnevale

On our quest to experience the best of Carnevale Venezia, we scouted some traditional attire to immerse ourselves in the carnival culture.

Antonia Sautter's Atelier and Best of Ballo Del Doge party sounded like a perfect way to celebrate. Her Venetian costumes in Stanley Kubrick's film Eyes Wide Shut, showcase her incredible attention to detail. She's created thousands of 18th and 19th century costumes and headpieces at her Atelier's in Venice. Every year during Carnival, she conjures a night of magic and fantasy for her dinner and show at the historic Palazzo Pisani on the Grand Canal. She combines her incredible costume creations with themes inspired by music, history and her imagination. As we time traveled into her 18th century celebration we arrived by water and were surrounded by guest wearing some of her most fascinating creations. It reminded me a bit of Lucent Dossier with a sophisticated Venetian twist.

One of my favorite parts of the festival was the preparation. After traversing the labyrinth of Venice to find Antonia Sautter's Atelier, I felt like a kid escaping to a secret candy store to play dress up. I tried on a variety of styles before falling in love with a tiered 19th century gold gown with floral sequins appliques and cap sleeves and a black feathered beaded headpiece.

We also visited Ca' Macana in Dosoduro to paint traditional Venetian masks and learn some classical styles to mix with our contemporary interpretations. The mask making was especially enjoyable and memorable. Here are some photos of the Blue Moon mask I painted with the guidance of the maestro.

Photographer Davide Palitiere and makeup artist Monica Berton helped capture some of these photographs with retouching by Taron Maroun. It was wonderful to watch the narrow streets flood with festivities, it brought so much vibrant color to Venezia.

Valentine's Day in Venice, Italy - Gondolas, Mask Making & Dessert with Celeste Thorson

2014-04-25T09:52:00.001-07:00

One of the most memorable moments during our San Valentino fantasy was floating on a gondola down the winding waterways, serenaded by the music and history shared by our gondolier.

As he expertly navigated the chilly water, the gondola rocked gently with rippling waves lapping on the sides of the narrow stone canals. I could say there was something magical about it, but that would fail to articulate the mystery and character emanating from these ancient walls. They seemed to demurely allude to the fantastical stories they've witness.

Photography by Davide Palitiere retouching by Taron Maroun.

I changed into a long red gown by Halston Heritage, crystal brooches, crystal belt, Christian Louboutin black pumps. Tousled wavy hair, red lipstick and wing tipped black eyeliner.

I should start at the beginning, after touring Paris, we arrived at the cozy Londra Palance for a romantic Valentine's Day in Venezia. The surprise champagne, flowers and mozzarella platter waiting for us was the perfect thoughtful snack to start our adventure. We spent much of our day meandering through the stone maze and liquid veins, admiring the bridges, canals, shops and architecture.

Rialto Bridge

To get into the Carnivale spirit, we immersed ourselves in some artistic Venetian culture by hand painting masks at Ca'Macana. Getting creative and learning a variety of traditional and modern techniques was a major highlight, highly recommended. Who would've expected we'd have that much fun with aprons and blow dryers?

After exploring the city by foot, of course we wanted to experience Venice by gondola. Worth it.

The evening got even better when we had dinner at Do'leoni. the food fare was light, classic and delicious and the lychee martini was heavenly. The staff and chef's were very accommodating with all of the meals during our stay. Complimenti!

We were lucky to find a few authentic restaurants during our trip and enjoyed local seafood delicacies at every opportunity. The best places were so good they deserved their own post so, I would love to tell you my top 3 favorite restaurants in Venice sometime.

Afternoon in Paris: Chanel, Louboutin, Macarons

2014-04-23T17:12:00.004-07:00

On our voyage to Venice, Italy we stopped by Paris for lunch, a stretch and a breath of fresh air. We enjoyed the intimate Parisian atmosphere and tasting menu at L'Restaurant. The staff and chef were very generous and deserving of their Michelin star. One of my favorite dishes was actually the a la carte Brittany Crab. The creamy avocado topped with a delicate yuzu mousse, sweet mustard crab and transparent layer of candied sugar? was absolutely delightful.

The leopard carpet at L'Hotel was the most fabulous compliment for my comfy studded Christian Louboutin flats.

After a romantic stroll through the streets of Paris, a kiss under the Eiffel Tower, we stopped by our favorite art districts and Chanel where Julie helped me pick out these adorable bow Chanel sunglasses

Then I found this lovely little Lancome travel palette appropriately named 24 heures a Paris ~ 24 Hours in Paris.

We completed our French sojourn with a fresh box of Ladureemacaroons.

French art, fashion and food...what's not to love?

Smokey Santa Monica Noir with Celeste Thorson

2014-04-14T08:01:00.000-07:00

The talented Daniel Alanis and I explored Santa Monica's landmark pier for a conversation on film noir and Stanley Kubrick. I wore my black faux fur trim coat, gloves, high heels and cloche hat and a Tarte makeup palette. With smokey eyes and smokey light, we walked around the Ferris Wheel at Pacific Park, then down to the pier's underpass. It almost felt as if we stepped into an eerie story surrounded by the ocean's misty secrets.

However vast the darkness, we must supply our own light. - Stanley Kubrick

San Francisco Treats with Celeste Thorson

2014-04-12T15:50:00.002-07:00

Whenever I visit San Francisco I try to stop by the Golden Gate Park. One of my favorite spots is the Music Concourse area near the museums. I often stroll through the Japanese Tea Garden to zen out by the koi ponds and sip a hot cup of tea.

Photographer Hardy Wilson and I met up and explored the columns at the Spreckles Temple of Music. We tried on a couple of sparkling looks, like this vintage black beaded gown, red dress with a pearl necklace and silver sequin dress with black pumps for a San Francisco throwback. I was all about rocking the red lipstick by MAC.

Shanghai 1930's Birthday Celebration at the W Hollywood with Celeste Thorson

2014-03-02T10:01:00.000-08:00

For our birthdays, David Christopher Lee and I planned a double trouble Shanghai 1930's celebration. Everyone looked beautiful in 1930's era art deco attire and cheongsams under the starry skies at the W Hotel in Hollywood. It was a mosaic of feathers, sequins, lace, pearls, red satin, luxurious embroidery and elaborate headdresses. We were honored to share our travel show Destination Luxury with over 700 of guests. I wore a dusty rose feathered evening gown and headpiece by Sue Wong. We honored the UNICEF Chinese Children’s Initiative, a great cause that supports some of the most vulnerable children in China. I'm so grateful for our media sponsor Phoenix International Magazine and the other generous sponsors who helped create an unforgettable evening...

My one big birthday wish was to have a performance by Chinese dragon dancers and the San Gabriel Valley Chinese Cultural Association went above and beyond with a roaring performance. The giant red dragon was smokin', literally blowing smoke through it's nose, that was my favorite part of the night! Then the adorable furry lion dancers pounced around festively and circled through the crowd.

From the beautiful red rose floral arrangements by Butterfly Floral Design to the gorgeous three tiered cake crowned with a golden phoenix by Baby Bea's Bakeshop, I was very grateful for everyone's generosity. The white, red and violet sparkling wine from Vina sympatica was lovely and the Tequila 88 ultra premium and Sacacuento Mezcal had a smokey kick. Mannfolk PR , Jin and Quinn and Charis Events and Design helped organize. The beats by DJ Christian B kept us dancing all night. Special thanks to the photographers Greg Autry, Joyce Chow and Nelson Shen Images, who all made great captures that night.

2013-12-19T08:37:00.000-08:00

I discovered an unexpected treasure in Las Vegas while shooting Destination Luxury with David C. Lee when we partnered up with the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. The elegant Emperor and Mandarin Suites revealed must see, sparkling views of the strip. We had a delicious experience at Mozen dining on their Asian fusion cuisine, highlights were the fresh sushi bento box and a soothing wonton noodle soup. Tea time was especially memorable in the evening overlooking the bright lights of the Eiffel Tower on Las Vegas Blvd. My friend Evie came along and helped me model some gorgeous evening gowns by Sue Wong.

Drones: A fairytale about the big bad wolf with Celeste Thorson

2013-02-21T14:55:00.001-08:00

seagulls from Mato Atom on Vimeo.

I had the pleasure of collaborating on this surreal short film "Seagulls" with the phenomenally talented Mato Atom. We filmed on the beach in Santa Monica and I wore a red bikini by Michael Kors.

I am admittedly fascinated by drones, but suspicious of their applications. There are many ways to interpret this modern cinematic twist on the classic Little Red Riding Hood fairytale.
A love story, a totalitarian future, or an Orson Wells fantasy. For me, this creates a dialogue about privacy, surveillance, and civil liberties. Do we accept these policies as they blend into the atmosphere like Seagulls or do we protect ourselves from them? It begs the questions:

What do you value most about privacy?

What liberties are you willing to relinquish?

I do think there are many wonderful uses for drones like cinematographic purposes, search and rescues and saving lives. I would love to hear your opinions or links to relevant news along with ways to protect privacy and civil liberties while allowing reasonable use of unmanned aircraft.

Time Travel in Newport Beach with Celeste Thorson

2013-01-03T15:09:00.001-08:00

Happy New Year! As I dream about what 2013 will bring, my memories drift to a mellow yellow place where I recently snapped some photographs in Newport Beach. Time travel with me along a trail of wildflowers where Carlos Chavez from CSquared Photography and I captured these lovely sun drenched moments. We leisurely strolled down the dirt paths, past wooden fences and desert brush, it was a perfectly relaxing day in Newport. I'm excited about the new year and all of the people I will meet and adventures just waiting to be experienced. I wish you all the best in reaching your goals, living your dreams and capturing life's most wonderful memories.

Superior Magazine Cover & Editorial with Celeste Thorson

2012-12-23T08:28:00.000-08:00

I had a super fun time shooting with Alexander LeKing and Yzabella Coath for Superior Magazine. Stylist Alyssa Chrencik pulled some awesome threads with her assistant Michael Walrond. Jeffrey Jagged styled my tresses with a curly volumonous coif and Patrick Eichler painted my face fancy with a dramatic yet simple look. We spent the beautiful day on this rooftop in downtown L.A. basking in the sun, golfing and enjoying the gentle breeze. Yet another reason why I love sunny SoCali in the winter...we even had a cute minimodel stop by with her mom to watch the shoot. T'was a good day.

Chiffon & Sleepytime Tea in Palos Verdes

2012-12-03T08:13:00.002-08:00

I live to make you free

Sip some sleepytime tea and take an afternoon stroll with me through Palos Verdes, CA.
Photographer Stacey Shipp woke me from my slumber and captured a few moments in time, before I tumbled back down the rabbit hole spiraling into to the melodies of Yann Tiersen. It was my first opportunity to work with a hearing impaired photographer and it was a wonderful. Stacey was lovely and has a great eye for soft beauty. Though we were near the ocean in Palos Verdes, I felt for a minute I was back in France.

There was a music playing in my mind while capturing these moments and now I will share it with you...

As the rain twinkles down my windowsill while I write this, I know I will always be a chaser of dreams and sweet music.

Stanley Kubrick Eyes Wide Shut Halloween with Celeste Thorson

2012-11-27T09:22:00.000-08:00

Eyes Wide Shut + LACMA Neon String Lights

After a crazy karaoke circus the weekend before Halloween, it was great to spend the 31st checking out the Stanley Kubrick exhibit at LACMA and admiring the incredible costumes seemingly incubated in Jim Hensen's and Tim Burton's secret workshop. I was fascinated by the whole exhibit from 2001: Space Odessey, Clockwork Orange, Eyes Wide Shut, The Shining, Napolean, Full Metal Jacket and well too many to list.

Last years Tim Burton exhibit was designed by Burton so it had a lot of his signature nuances peppering the experience, Kubrick's felt more like a classic museum presentation with plenty of posters and production materials to peruse and the occasional costumes, models, slates or props. My eyes fixed on the lenses and cameras like carats of diamonds in display cases and on pedestals. Stepping into the Milk Bar was eerie, all while A Perfect Circle soundtrack twinkled in my mind. The live milk bar mannequins and the shining sisters really brought the exhibit to life.

I designed this burlesque costume using a black and crimson lace and satin corset with a custom black beaded applique and a black and red feather jeweled brooch in the center bodice, crimson tiered lace and satin skirt, a black and red feather boa bustle with black satin ribbon bow, thigh high stockings with a small bow and black seam up to the the back, sequin black pumps, beaded fringe art deco clutch purse and black satin gloves with a black and red feather jeweled half mask. It was a fun art project to create and even more lovely to wear.

San Francisco: Model Desire & Adobe Game Jam with Celeste Thorson

2012-11-13T15:30:00.000-08:00

What happens when you mix motorcyle jackets, knee high boots, the occasional fluttering earring, me and Jim Doukakis? You get these killer shots...

While in San Francisco late October covering Adobe Game Jam, I met up with Jim Doukakis from Model Desire and we spent a crisp afternoon walking around SOMA shooting some relaxed photos. It was cool to take a break from the intense programming going on behind the brick walls of Adobe.

There was a lot of creativity in the mix and I loved all the game concepts. Some that caught my eye were Taco Loco, Alcatraz Interrogation, Hipster Homicide, Super Putty Man, Muni, Startup, Invisible, Alcatraz Escape, Beard to the Future and San Francisco Bizarre Adventure. They were all pretty impressive considering that time they had to program, design and debug these games from scratch in just a couple days. After the event everyone went to the local dive to celebrate. Cheers to all the creative teams and Adobe staff for being so awesome!

What happens when you mix San Francisco, Sean Connery and Roller Skates? You win Adobe Game Jam...
