Prepaid service providers conceptualized their offers based on the different lifestyles of their market. Hence, as a wise consumer you must assess your lifestyle in terms of mobile use to find the best plan for you.

* Calls. Know how much call each month and choose the plan that is close to the number of minutes you use. Even if that plan is higher, take the chance and never settle for the cheaper plan with less number of minutes. In the long run, you will still pay for the excess minutes which eventually more expensive. For those who always make international calls, there are some companies that offer cheaper international calling rates as well as plan for international calls.

* Messages. Same goes for text messages, know how much you use such feature. If you rarely send messages then don’t opt for some add-ons for messages and just settle with the basic plan for calls.

* Time you use the phone. You may be a subscriber who uses their mobile phones more during nights and weekends. Hence, it is best for you to take advantage of unlimited nights and weekends that some companies offer.

Let’s face it; some prepaid plans can mislead consumers. Cheaper rates become expensive in the long run or they have many “add-ons” that consumers choose even if they rarely use it. It is best to take a closer look at prepaid plans to your advantage. Here are some features from prepaid plans to consider:

* Allocated number of minutes and messages per month
* Unlimited nights and weekends
* Basic rates for calls, messages and other features
* Rate and charges for exceeding minutes and messages
* Mobile phones for each plan

The company

Lastly, evaluate the prepaid company based on their over-all market performance as well as their features if they suit you. Here are some of them:

* Coverage area. It is very important for your prepaid service provider to have a wide coverage area. Check if your state belongs to their coverage as well as your recipient for calls and messages like where your family and friends are located. Some companies offer a different rate for those calls and other transactions outside their nationwide coverage.

* Customer support. Do they provide many options for their customer support? Are there many retail stores? Or can you transact business like adding minutes online?

To end up, to avoid frequent calls to the customer service of prepaid companies, it is best to take some time studying and evaluating different companies. You can choose three companies in your area and assess each one. Don’t be tempted with all the features and add-ons that you really don’t need. They may sound cheap but if you rarely use them, they are still a burden. Lastly, choose a company that reflects who you are. I would definitely not recommend it over a landline. It’s really inexpensive, extremely easy to use and understand, and works well enough. All you would need is a microphone or some sort of headset to speak into. You don’t need any hardware, but fast internet would be recommended(over 3MBPS). You can easily download the software from their site, and unlimited calls for the US are $2.95 a month. It’s not the best voice quality, but why complain when it is so cheap? I think a better alternative would be "Magic Jack." It costs about $40 for the actual hardware, and all you do is install it on your computer. It connects to the USB port, and then it allows you to connect your phone line directly to your computer. You get your own number, and you can continue using all of your homes around the home. Magic Jack costs $20 a year, and that is for unlimited calls. The reviews on it are pretty solid, and I would prefer it over Skype. The reason being is that Skype only allows calls over your computer, while you being there. To answer calls you have to physically answer them. Magic Jack works like a regular phone causing the phones to ring in the house. It works over the internet, the same was Skype does. Magic Jack is a bit cheaper ($20 yearly, $3 monthly for Skype). Be sure your internet can put up with these services, try to get at least 3MBPS. Test your internet speed at: Http://SpeedTest.Net if you are not sure of your internet speed.

I send between 10 and 20 texts a day. I don’t think that’s a lot compared to everyone else I know! I mainly just text my boyfriend.

I only ever call my boyfriend, and it’s USUALLY in the evening.

I don’t do anything else with cell phones. But I want something reliable. I am planning on moving to Idaho soon (I live in Utah at the moment) and want for my family to be able to reach me and visa versa in case of emergency and just to talk sometimes. What is the best deal for me?

One thing to consider is what company your boyfriend is with. I have a T-mobile account my GF does not. So in our case my calls to her are free (she is in my 5). However when I call her it counts against her minutes. If you are both with the same company most have a Free mobile to mobile option for a couple more dollars a month. If he is staying in Utah and you are going to Idaho get unlimited texting at least for a couple months because you will be using it constantly. And if you are moving to be closer to each other……Get unlimited texting because you are going to be using it constantly. :) All cell phone plans can be fairly pricey but don’t just look for the "lowest" price I chose T-mobile because of the flexibility I have in choosing who I call the most and from a budget standpoint it made the most sense to me.
