1. iHound before you lose your smartphone - Bell Mobility and most other service providers recommend you call them right away if you lose your smartphone so they can block further use. That way, thieves won’t be able to run up charges on your account. You should also consider installing a digital tracker such as iHound on your phone. 2. Two-Way mobile video calling - Bell Mobility, Rogers and TELUS have announced the successful completion of two-way mobile video calling trials between carriers. Currently, video calling is possible but only between customers who use the same carrier network and compatible handsets. When inter-carrier video calling becomes available, customers of different networks will be able to create a “see-what-I-can-see” connection with each other. Did you watch the olympics on your phone? - Mobile TV was a hit during the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, according to Bell Mobility, with a 198% increase in mobile viewership of live TV during the Games. Bell also reports an increase in video-on-demand and live radio games, largely due to Bell’s Olympic offerings. 4. New bell phone rumoured - Word has it that loyal Samsung customers will have a new mobile phone option starting March 1. The Samsung R330, which will be available through Bell Mobility, comes with a 1.3-megapixel camera, a 2.5-mm headset and large one-touch dial keys. 5. BlackBerry users can see their voicemail - Tired of managing your voicemails by calling into your voicemail box? Bell Mobility customers in Canada with BlackBerry® smartphones will be able to manage their voicemails visually using Visual Voicemail. With this new application, once voicemail messages have been received on the handset, they can be arranged in order of priority, accessed even in places where there’s no wireless coverage, reviewed, and deleted or answered by texting or calling. With Bell’s Virtual Cowbell application, Bell Mobility customers can ring their cowbell on specific mobile phones and smartphones. 1. Bell introduces New enhanced 911 service - 911 call centers across now receive more precise information on the location of callers using mobile phones. The reason is that Bell Mobility and other Canadian wireless companies have worked over the last year with more than 120 emergency call centres on E911 Phase Two, which uses GPS and triangulation of surrounding cell sites or towers to estimate a wireless handset’s longitude and latitude coordinates.

1. Upgrade from your old Bell plan and lose the SAF - For customers signing up for service starting Dec. 1, 2009, Bell Mobility has removed the 75 cent monthly 911 fee and $6.95 system access fee. New Final Fantasy game available to Bell Mobility users - Namco, the publisher of the Final Fantasy video role-playing game series, announced that the game will be available for Bell Mobility in Canada on March 15, 2010. The game originated in Japan in 1987 and has been available in North America since 1990.

Contactless Enabled Handsets with Zoompass coming soon - Bell Mobility, in conjunction with two other leading mobile operators in Canada, intends to offer NFC or contactless enabled handsets to customers sometime in 2010. With these handsets, Bell Mobility customers will be able to use the Zoompass service to load funds into their bank or credit card account and then use the phone to make purchases, pay bills and send and receive money.

Add Video to your Bell BlackBerry

This short guide will show you the steps that you need to take to play videos on your Bell Blackberry.

Important: Before you start, it’s important to know that not all Bell Mobility BlackBerry’s can play video files. If you have an older Bell Blackberry model like the Bell 8703E, 7250, 7750 you are out of luck because these and other other models do not have media players and cannot play video.

If you’ve got an older BlackBerry and you need to watch videos you`ll need to upgrade to one of Bell Mobility’s newer Blackberry models.  Buy Bell Mobility BlackBerry’s here.

If you’ve got a Bell 8830 World Edition, 8130 Pearl, 8230 Pearl flip, 8330 Curve, 8530 Curve, 9630 Tour, 9530 Storm, 9000 Bold or Bell 9700 Bold you’re in luck.

With that out of the way, let’s get started!

Step 1: Find Your Videos. On your computer, collect the video files you want to play on your BlackBerry. At this point don’t worry what file format your video files are currently in.

Step 2: Video File Comparability. Your Bell Mobility BlackBerry will not play all video file types. You’ll need to convert your videos into a file format that your BlackBerry’s media player can play.

Note: Supported video file formats: All BlackBerry`s support MPEG4 (Part 2 Simple Profile), H.263, and WMV. The Bell 8530 Curve also supports H.263 and WMV9. The Bell Bold 9700 supports all previously supported formatted and XviD (partially supported) WMV3, Sorenson Spark & On2 VP6 (Flash support).

If your videos are already in a supported BlackBerry video format then skip to Step 8.

Step 3: Video File Conversion. If your videos are not in a supported format then you’ll need to convert them. The video converter software that I use is called Any Video Converter, it easy to use and it’s free. Download it from here and install the program on your computer.

Note: Any Video Converter has recently added a paid professional version of this software, but as long as you don’t upgrade from this free version you can convert as many files as you like for free.

Launch Any Video Converter and press the Add Video button to add the videos stored on your computers hard drive (or you can simply drag and drop your video into the program).

Step 4: Select a compatible video format. Next select your desired file format. Under the Profile section select the format. If you’re not sure which setting to use, select WMV (Customized WMV Movie).

Step 5: Select frame size. Next select an appropriate Frame Size. Under Video Options section click on the Frame Size. Most Bell Blackberry’s will support a Frame Size of 320×240. If you have a Pearl use 220×176.

Step 6: Convert Video. To start the conversion process press the Convert button.

Step 7: Locate Converted Files. When the video files have been converted you can easily find where there are located by right-clicking on the converted file and selecting Open Destination File Location

Step 8: Add Files to Your BlackBerry. Add your converted video files from the destination file on your computer to your MicroSD card or add it directly to your BlackBerry by using your data cable and dragging the video files directly onto it.

One added benefit of unlocked Bell GSM phones is that you can use then with Rogers and Telus too, also when you travel outside of Canada this phone will work in over 150 countries worldwide.

Like many of the new Bell GSM / HSPA devices, data applications are not supported so you will not be able to access the mobile wap browser or other data features. But if you’re looking for a great phone for the purposes of texting and talking then the LG Shine CU720 is a great option for you.

Some notes on the new Bell GSM / HSPA network:

* Bell has not launched the network across all of Canada so there are many areas where Bell HSPA phones are not supported. Click here to view Bell’s HSPA coverage map (under “Select coverage type” check “HPSA/HSPA+”). If there is no coverage in your area then this phone will not work for you.

* This phone requires a Bell SIM card to operate. If you do not have a Bell SIM card, you can purchase on from your local Bell Store or online at Bell.ca for $5.

How to Program Your BlackBerry Tour 9630 for Bell Mobility

Using this short guide, we will walk you through the process of programming your phone number into your BlackBerry Tour 9630 for Bell Mobility. Don’t worry; the process isn’t hard. In 8 easy steps, you’ll have your phone programmed in no time. And you’ll save up to $25 on in-store programming fees.

So, let’s get started!

Step 1: Turn on your phone and press the green Phone button. From the Phone Screen, press [#][#] and then your six-digit Lock Code. If you do not have your Lock Code, you can contact Bell Mobility customer service by phone at 1-800-667-0123. Or you can watch our video Activating Your Bell Cell at bell.ca to find out how to get your Lock Code.

Step 2: Press in the green Phone button. The CDMA SERVICE PROGRAM EDIT SCREEN will appear.

Step 3: In the Mobile Directory Number (MDN) field, go to the end of the existing phone number. Click the [DEL] button to remove the existing number.

Step 4: Enter in your ten-digit cell phone number, including the area code.

Step 5: In the IMSI_S field, go to the end of the existing phone number. Click the [DEL] button to remove the existing number.

Step 6: Enter in your ten-digit cell phone number, including the area code.

Step 7: Press the menu button to bring up the menu and press [Save].

Step 8: You will see the message WRITE SUCCESSFUL. RESETTING DEVICE appear briefly and then your BlackBerry Tour 9630 will shut down. It will restart on its own.

And you’re done. You’ve just programmed your BlackBerry Tour 9630 for Bell Mobility.

Step 1: Dial *723 and press send to initiate programming; otherwise dial ## followed by your lock code provided by Bell Mobility. Press # after the lock code to enter the programming menu. If you do not have your Lock Code, you can contact Bell Mobility customer service by phone at 1-800-667-0123. Step 2: Select Edit.

Step 3: Enter your phone number with area code into the Mobile Directly Number (MDN) field when prompted and press Menu/OK.

Step 4: Enter your phone number with area code into the Mobile Station ID (MSID) field when prompted and press Menu/OK.

Step 5: Select Done. The phone will turn off and on. The programming is complete.

And you’re done. You’ve just programmed your LG Rumour 2 for Bell Mobility.

Everyday we see more images detailing the destruction and horror in the aftermath of last weeks earthquake.

Many people have even followed this disaster by reading the news and watching videos on their cellular phones.

This week Canada’s cellular carriers have made it easier for their subscribers to donate to foundations helping in the relief efforts by text messages.
