Jellycopter Sundae

Sunday's league cup defeat to Kilmarnock was extremely disappointing for any Celtic fan. It was a hard stone to swallow that the coveted treble is now outwith our grasp, however, a lot of the focus from the game was the penalty incident at the closing stages of the tie. It seems the referee decision overshadowed the fact that Celtic were slow, toothless and overall disinterested. If Celtic had any competency on the day we wouldn't have required a penalty at the end to save our blushes to take the game into extra time. With this is mind, maybe we weren't cautious enough with Kilmarnock, didn't give them enough respect, expecting to steamroll them with a team who are visably tiring. Does it sound familiar that this coming Sunday we are already talking about lifting the title at Ibrox if KILMARNOCK win on Saturday but not mentioning "if" CELTIC win on Sunday? The game is not already won, yes Rangers are suffering at the moment but this can only be used as fuel for thier players to save some face and gain a little respect for themselves - a perfect oppertunity. We MUST NOT underestimate Rangers or we could again see a repeat of the disappointment felt last Sunday.

Team talk: - The under performers at Hampden have to give theirselves a shake and be mentally ready for what could be a vile atmosphere from the Rangers hordes. James Forrest has been underachieving lately and I think he may become a passanger in this match. I would really like to See Samaras starting, as i did for the league cup final. He provides width and can be a general nuisance especially to young inexperienced defenders that Rangers will most likely be forced to field. Gary Hooper is another who has been off-the-boil lately, but with the amount of goals he chips in with can we really afford a forward line consisting of Stokes and Samaras? With the amount of creativity we have from midfield by head says yes, but i'm not quite sure enough to make a bold statement and say Hooper deserves to be dropped. That's for Lennon to decide

What not to forget is Rangers' recent woeful record. The 2-1 defeat to Dundee Utd last weekend was completely overshadowed by our own League cup final defeat. A cup which has had a Celtic hoodoo for many years. Interesting figures I picked up last week were:- Since 1970 Celtic have played in 21 finals and only won 7 of those. Our league record however, looks far more impressive. Infact, you would have to go back as far as October..TWENTY TWO league games ago to find the last time we record a loss. Contrast to Rangers where you only have to look as far back as last week to find their last recorded defeat, and the week before that. Who knows what motley crew rangers can assemble from the threadbare squad at Ibrox, What i do know is that we have more talented and more quality in every position. No excuses this time Celtic.

As a final note..If Kilmarnock are to overcome Motherwell on Saturday afternoon at Rugby Park, and if we win at Ibrox, I can only hope the blue miscreants can behave themselves and not see a repeat of the events of 1999.

Enjoy the party lads.

The day Rangers won the league at Celtic park has to be one of the worst days I have had in Paradise. For those 90 minutes it was not 'paradise' it was a cauldron of hate and utter insanity. As a young impressionable lad I went to the game knowing full well that Rangers were more than likely about to win the league at my beloved ground. But I went in the hope that a poor Celtic side might have enough about them to stop them on the day. This wasn’t to be, Rangers ran out 3-0 winners in a match that will be known for its lunacy more than the football. Over 100 fans arrested in the ground, fans running onto the pitch to confront the ref.

Hugh Dallas hit by a coin – pictures of him on his knees, blood pouring from his head shown across the land. An act to this day makes me cringe, I had loose change in my pocket that day but at no point came to the conclusion that Mr Dallas was worth wasting a single penny on. It was a daft thing to do because whatever professionalism Dallas had left evaporated and he handed Rangers a penalty straight after the incident.

Stephane Mahe, Vidar Riseth and Rod Wallace all sent off as the whole place went mental.

Riseth recalls the madness:
“It was a dreadful night for the game in general with punters and players losing the head “

● He has never known any madness like it.

● He saw a man falling out of the top tier of the stand and the only reason he didn’t die was because he was so drunk.

● The teams nearly came to blows in the tunnel before the game.

● How Reyna punched him in the stomach during the game and threatened to break his legs before he got his retaliation in first.

● How after his red card, he was applauded off the Parkhead pitch by the Celtic fans.

Riseth hated the experience but Celtic could have the chance to clear the slate on Sunday and he knows what it will mean to the Hoops if the title is secured in Govan.

The game was lost and Rangers had won the league and if that wasn’t enough proceeded to do a huddle in the middle of the field, a sight that was too much for some Celtic fans. These will be the same Celtic fans chomping at the bit for a chance to wrap the league up at Ibrokes. The huddles would come from the stands as we sing songs about jelly and ice cream. It would indeed be a sweet moment!

Just to be clear I have no desire to see all these things repeated come Sunday if it turns out to be a title clincher. I will however stand with a wide smile on my face if it comes to fruition, knowing that the young impressionable lad that witnessed that awful day at paradise has been avenged.

But if this is not to be then Celtic will stroll up to Ibrokes on Sunday ready to have a party and have a laugh at Rangers expense knowing full well that the title is coming home regardless.

Could be a big weekend, if you are out stay safe!

Celtic are ready to make a sensational move to English football – and start a new life in the npower League One.

Top-level exploratory talks that are going on in secret could result in the Glasgow giants QUITTING the Scottish Premier League and taking up a place in the third tier of English football, among the likes of S****horpe and Tranmere Rovers.

Senior officials and connections with the Parkhead outfit have made contact with both the Premier League and Football League about the mind-boggling prospect.

The pros and cons are being debated in the higher echelons at both ends – and the plan may be put to Football League clubs at the end of this season.

Celtic have been in contact with England’s deal-makers before, when their willingness to go into a newlook Premier League Two was under serious consideration.

But People Sport can reveal that the Glasgow giants are so keen to head over the border and progress that they would go even LOWER to begin with.

An insider revealed: “There has already been one meeting and
another is scheduled shortly. It would only mean one new place being created.”

Celtic playing at English League One level would be a massive boost for the competition, creating worldwide interest – with gates boosted at some struggling clubs and vast TV and commercial spinoffs.

Chairmen around England would be rubbing their hands with glee at the idea of thousands of the green and white fans swelling their attendances.

And it would be no financial loss for Celtic if they gave up the SPL and also forfeited European football, which has been a barren land for them lately.

Celtic would also fancy themselves to win promotion despite some big-name clubs operating at that level and then taking the Championship by storm before the ultimate goal of reaching the Premier League.

All previous ideas about Celtic and Rangers moving to the Premier League have been kicked into touch by top-flight clubs because it would have been like turkeys voting for Christmas.

But the back-door approach of League One would meet less opposition and be a more controlled change – although it would be no less revolutionary.

The logistics of Celtic joining the Football League would be helped if a club went bust to create a space in the lower reaches.

If debt-ridden Portsmouth went into liquidation, for instance, then that could speed up the process, with growing support in some serious areas for the ‘transfer’ to happen.

The Football League clubs would have to vote Celtic in and there would need to be some major discussion on the rights and wrongs and full repercussions.

However, cash signs may be in most eyes with the idea of welcoming a fanatically-supported club and giving the whole game a boost at that level.

The switch would be devastating for Scottish football and a crushing blow to Old Firm rivals Rangers, who are trying to find a new owner to take them out of administration.

But Celtic have admitted that they see themselves moving south if possible and they will take the step without a second thought.

That would leave Rangers on their own or making a bid to follow them, although they are currently not in a position to put such forward thinking plans together.

This Sunday Celtic have the chance to secure the first silverware of the season and perhaps the first trophy of a prestigious domestic treble. Celtic will be entering their third league cup final in the last four years. Celtic go into this final on a phenomenal run of form. The bhoys have gone unbeaten for 26 games the most recent victory came in tantalizing 0-4 win at tanadice that put Celtic in the semi finals of the William hill Scottish cup.

However although the hoops go into this game as clear favourites to take the trophy it wouldn't be the first time Celtic have lost to the underdogs in a league cup final. An infamous game in a lot of Celtic fans memories is the 94 league cup final defeat to Raith Rovers which proves the point anything can happen in cup football. Also under Kenny Sheils Kilmarnock are different outfit from what they were a few season ago. Their free flowing attacking football has already seen them collect two wins over our arch rivals Rangers and they did lead 3-0 in the sensational 3-3 draw at rugby park.

No matter what the score is expect this this to be a wonderful cup final for the neutrals with both sides showing how the game should be played and hopefully we will all be toasting Neil Lennons second trophy as Celtic manager.

Come on Glasgow's Green & White!

FIRST silverware of the season up for grabs this Sunday where the mighty Hoops take on Kilmarnock at Hampden.

Celtic fans will be able to paint the national stadium in green and white this Sunday afternoon as Kilmarnock have been unable to fulfill their allocation and approx. 40,000 hoops fans will fill the stands to cheer on the bhoys in green. Not the same can be said for the Celtic players who will don the away Grey/White away strip while Kilmarnock will wear their all yellow kit to satisfy kit-clash requirements laid out by the SFL.

Anywho......

A better performance is required from Celtic from what we've seen in recent outings. I think against Dundee Utd we were struggling in the first half and the red card incident (right call may i add) completely changed the game and we easily enough picked up the win. We won't be as fortunate this time if Kilmarnock are fired up for this, what we need is an extra man in the middle to boost the midfield as I feel we were slightly overrun in the first half hour at tannadice.

Forster

Matthews - Rogne - Wilson - Mulgrew

Forrest - Brown - Wanyama - Ledley - Samaras

Hooper

No disrespect to Tony Stokes, but i think the team needs the extra man in the middle to settle and control the game. I could be wrong...i've been wrong before...but that's my line-up for Sunday.

A strong performance is required, and if we can pull it off then we will pick up the first prize of the season and dare i say it... 1 out of 3 for the coveted treble.

Couldn't make this stuff up Rangers have started a "fighting fund" in which they are asking the Rangers support to give money, not for a share issue, not for a takeover but just for general running costs of the club till the end of the season. Now they can spin it anyway they like, but this is begging! Pure and simple. So have they set up a sophisticated website where a concerned Rangers supporter can donate cash to the Rangers coffers, a website where they can put all their details in and make a secure card transaction....NO! They have given people an account and sort code number in which to give them money, just like you and I would do if exchanging money to one an other. This is another new low for Dignity FC in their quest to try and stave off liquidation. BUT they tell us they're definitely not begging...aye right Ally!
It's safe to say that when Charlie Mulgrew made his return to Celtic he wasn't an instant hit straight away. However the would be left back turned centre half has delivered a number of magnificent performances. Over the last several months to show that he is one of most versatile players in the squad and cement himself in the Celtic team sheet week in and week out. These performances culminated in five SPL wins and a Scottish cup victory in a month where he and is defensive team mates racked up 6 clean sheets.

This magnificent month was topped off in spectacular fashion when the defender scored a tremendous goal in the 5-0 demolition of Hibs. Finally in this month the Celtic defensive dynamo captained his Bhoyhood heroes in the absence of Scott Brown in the same week as he was called up to make his Scotland debut.

All of the above show why Charlie Mulgrew thoroughly deserved the SPL Player of the month accolade and the praise of players pundits and fans.

Congratulations Charlie Mulgrew our prodigal son

SCOTTISH cup action on the way on Sunday afternoon where hoops fans can swing their attention east towards the lovely city of Dundee where Celtic take on Dundee Utd in the Scottish Cup quarter final.

Dundee Utd are a team who are very much on form at the moment. From their last 6 matches, they have tallied up an impressive total of 16 goals scored, with only 1 conceded and have Won 5 of those 6, and also triumphed against Rangers after a 2-0 victory at Ibrox. However, sources indicate our beloved manager Neil Lennon seems to have done his homework by attending the last 2 Dundee Utd home games as has hopefully watched on very carefully. While united's form is something to be commended, our own record is as equally impressive:- 14 goals scored, 1 conceded and have won 5 of those 6 with a winning run that dates back as far as 2011. As far as form goes this match should be a battle of the titans.

Team news:- Celtic captain Scott Brown will return to action and should cement his name on the team sheet. I think we can all agree we missed him very dearly against Aberdeen at Pittordrie where we ended our winning streak in a 1-1 draw. The man himself seems to have turned a new leaf in his Celtic career and has become a rock in our midfield. Another familiar face, Victor Wanyama will return to action this Sunday after missing most of the Aberdeen match due to an international duty hangover. I am a firm believer that games are won and lost in the battle of the midfield, if Celtic can control and stabilise the centre circle then we should be on our way to Hampden for the semi-final.

It will take a lot of grit and determination (ok my cliché quota has rached it's maximum) to overcome a handy Dundee Utd. They have a capable strike force in Russell and Daly although, If Rogne is on his game, he and K.Wilson should be able to contain the two. Another one to watch is left winger Mackay-Steven. I'm not sure of the status of Matthews or why he was left out against Aberdeen but is Lustig up to the job against a tricky player? Mik was involved for 45 minutes in a bounce match against Malmo earlier this week where it is said he made quite an impression, is it too early to throw him in to such a challenge or is Cha a safer bet?. I'm sure Lennon has already evaluated the situation and we will find out soon enough. If fit and ready my first choice of RB is always going to be Matthews.

I think Celtic will be raring to go on this one after the disappointment of Aberdeen last weekend with maybe something to prove and Dundee Utd will want to have a go of it and look to knockout both of the big Glasgow teams from the competition.

This is the next big step toward the Tr*ble. Are we allowed to say it yet?
