Maya Biosphere Reserve is basically a nature reserve based in Guatemala. This attraction of the country of Guatemala is governed by an organization called CONAP. This nature reserve encompasses an area of around 21,500 sq. km; which makes it one of the biggest nature reserves of the country as well as the continent.

The animal species housed by this reserve forest is quite diverse. During your visit to Maya Biosphere Reserve, you will come across fauna species like puma, jaguar, margay, crocodiles, white-tailed deer, different species of hawks, tapirs, howler monkeys, ocelot, spider monkeys, harpy eagles, scarlet macaws, red brocket, fresh water turtle and many more. This Central American nature reserve is also home to a wide variety of flora species like cedar, mahogany, ceiba etc. The area covered by Maya Biosphere Reserve consists of different kinds of water bodies, like streams, cenotes, rivers and lakes, short mountain ranges and wetlands.

The nature reserve was established in the year 1990 and it includes the largest share of the existing tropical forests of Central America. The basic model of the Maya Biosphere Reserve was executed by UNESCO; the project was primarily planned for promoting balance between the biosphere and human activities through inclusion of sustainable economic developments in plans drafted for conservation.

This biosphere reserve boasts a number of zones; each of these zones possesses varied protected status. Core zones of this nature reserve consist of several wildlife preserves or biotopes and national parks; in these areas no logging, extraction or human settlement is allowed. Examples of some of the most prominent segments of the biosphere reserve’s core zone are: Biotopes like El Zotz, Cerro Cahuí etc and national parks like Mirador-Río Azul, Tikal etc. The core zones of Maya Biosphere Reserve include 7670 sq. km. of area, which is almost 36 percent of the total area of this nature reserve.

La Mosquitia can be described as the biggest territory of the virgin tropical rainforest of Central America as well as Northern Hemisphere. Often, people, especially the tourists coming to this part of the world refer to this region as the mini Amazon. La Mosquitia covers a large part of northeastern territories of Honduras and is mainly home to several rural settlements. La Mosquitia is not an extremely populated part of Central America; the villages of this region are sparsely populated by indigenous groups such as Miskitos, Pech, Garifuna and Tawahka.

La Mosquitia houses 5 separate natural zones; they are: Tawahka Anthropological and Río Plátano Biosphere Reserves, Cruta Caratasca Wildlife Refuge, Patuca National Park and Rus Rus Biological Reserve. Majority of these natural zones are still untouched and are inhabited by different rare and common wildlife. There are not many tour companies arranging tours to this part of Central America. You will come across only one or two indigenous tour agencies that offer trips to La Mosquitia.

La Mosquitia was inhabited for the first time during the 1000 B.C. The first inhabitants were Indians, who used speak Chibcha as their mother tongue. They came to this Central American terrain from countries of South America. It is also believed that Christopher Columbus, the discoverer of Americas halted in region for some days in the year 1502.

The most exciting way of reaching this part of Honduras is by boat. In Honduras’s north coast, you will come across boat services that will take you to La Mosquitia. However, boasts are not available on each day of a week; you will have to be aware of the departure time and date of the boat and book your seat in advance.

Palo Verde National Park is located in Costa Rica; in Spanish the park is referred to as Parque Nacional Palo Verde. This national park is included in the country’s Tempisque Conservation Area; the largest share of this conservation area is situated on Tempisque River valley covering over 45,492 acres of Guanacaste Province. To be more precise, Palo Verde is located 30Km towards the west of the canton, Canas.

The region is covered by tropical dry forest; the place is also home to limestone ridges, seasonal pools, marshes and vital floodplains. These creations of nature are conserved here from encroachment of human civilization for saving the vulnerable ecology of the region from being destroyed.

During your visit to the Palo Verde National Park, you will get to explore through the park’s Ranger Station. The Ranger Station stays open from 8am till dusk. The place has restrooms and potable water for making the voyage comfortable for the visitors. The other notable area of the national park is the Biological Station. The park is particularly famous for being home to a wide range of avian species.

This reserve forest was originally established with the aim of preserving the endangered bird species. The entire area of the park is segmented into 15 topographical zones, which ranges from mangrove swamps to evergreen forests. Each of these topographical regions houses bird species that are naturally suited to their respective environment. The bird species that can be spotted regularly at the Palo Verde National Park include names like Scarlet Macaws, wood storks, Great Curassows, white ibis, anhingas, roseate spoonbills, jabirus and many such others.

As mentioned earlier, Palo Verde protects an extremely endangered ecosystem on earth. The park is among the few existing dry tropical rainforests of the world. Earlier, most part of the Central America was covered by dry tropical rainforests; however, currently only 0.1% of Central America has this ecosystem. It is believed that if the plans drafted by the Palo Verde National Park work in the right direction, this ecosystem will be protected successfully.

The Chagres National Park is located on the east of Panama Canal; to be more precise the park is situated right in between the two provinces Colon and Panama. The total area covered by this Central American national park is 300,000 acres or 129,000 hectares. This park was established with an aim of protecting the region’s tropical rainforest, which runs across the bank of the rivers in this part of the world. The main reason behind this aim of the park authority is producing sufficient amount of water and ensuring normal operation of Panama Canal.

Another primary objective of preserving this natural forest is maintaining supply of drinking water across cities like La Chorrera, Panama and Colon. The preservation of the region’s rain forest also helps in proper electricity generation for Colon and Panama. Other than all these, one should also know that for proper working of the Panama Canal, its water levels must be maintained. This is because every ship passing through this canal requires a minimum of 52 million gallons sweet water (non recoverable).

Besides being such an important project for the people of Panama, the Chagres National Park is also a popular tourist destination of the country. As a result several restaurants and hotels have been established in the neighboring areas of the park. Are you looking to visit the Chagres National Park; then the following guidelines will help you immensely:

If you are on Transisthmian Highway i.e. the highway running between Colon and Panama, you can reach the park through 3 different ways. They are: taking Calzada Laarga road leading to Alajuela Lake, opting for the road leading to Madden Dam and from Nuevo Vigia, a town of Panama.

Another way of reaching the Chagres National Park is through the road leading to the famous volcano Cerro Azul.

If you have planned your honeymoon in Mexico, one of the most exquisite accommodation options you’ll get in the country is the resort called La Casa que Canta. This resort’s Cliffside setting has given it the perfect dramatic ambience that honeymooners look for. Every guestroom of La Casa que Canta is secluded apparently and has several unique features. If you are visiting the place for spending your anniversary, or if you are newly married, you should opt for special acocmo0dation options like Private pool suites and Grand suites.

Another highlight of the resort is the open air restaurant housed by it. The restaurant has exceptionally elegant set up and serves the guests innovative dishes having authentic Mexican flavors. While dining at this restaurant, you will get to enjoy the magnificent view of the Zihuatanejo Bay.

The hotel authority also warns that single individuals should not book rooms or suites in this resort as they might feel a bit out of place.

If you are in the Central American nation of Panama, you should make it a point to visit the famous Afro-Antillean Museum of Panama. This museum stores the memory of the group of people inhabiting this part of the world in search of work. These people brought some tokens that would remind them about their original homelands; examples of these tokens include: Pals Y Cuerdas, banjo, conga drums and Ukuleles. The main idea behind the inception of the Afro-Antillean Museum of Panama is honoring the sacrifices and achievement of the Afro Antillean people. The deeds of this community hold a strong position in the history of Panama.

The Afro-Antillean Museum of Panama was inaugurated in the year 1980, on 23rd of December. The exact location of the museum is in Panama’s Maranon neighborhood. This area was originally created in 1850 for the railroad workers; then, this place used to be called as ‘Guachapali’.

What you can expect to see in this museum? The most prominent exhibits of this museum are the historic photographs of Antilleans, who first inhabited this part of the world during the mid 1800s. Visitors will also get to see a number of other interesting objects belonging to that era. There’s a room dedicated to photos depicting the arrival of the Antillean immigrants in Panama. There are also photos expressing the engagement of these people in construction of Interoceanic Canal and railway. This building, in which we have the Afro-Antillean Museum of Panama today, was built in the year 1909, which is long before the inception of the museum. During its early days, the building was a Chapel for Christian Mission. It was built by a Barbarian group, who wanted to use this place for holding their religious meetings.

Exploring the museum will educate you thoroughly about the history of Panama. If you want to gather more knowledge, opt for a guide. The museum authority has arranged several well trained and well-behaved guides for people visiting this place. In the month of August, every year, the museum hosts a special event, during which talk shows, contests and photo exhibitions are organized in the museum premises.

The Central American nation of Honduras is a land of spectacular biodiversity. The country is home to over 700 avian species, which includes names like harpy eagles. Here, you will come across rare ocelots, tapirs, mantled howler monkey, giant anteaters, pumas and jaguars. Honduras is the country having the densest and the most extensive cloud forest of the region. Moskitia region of Honduras is regarded as one among very few undisturbed wildernesses present on earth. If you are a true nature lover, you should not miss visiting Moskitia.

Honduras has several reserves and parks protecting its 8 chief life zones. This place is an ideal destination for people looking to be a part of ecotourism, which include both business houses and vacationers. However, due to lack of knowledge about refined marketing techniques, Honduras has not yet been successful in placing its name on the global map of ecotourism. Here, we have tried to inform the readers about the natural treasure of the place. This section involves brief descriptions of the national parks of Honduras.

Celaque:
This cloud forest of Honduras is the highest one of the country. Cleaque National Park is home to a huge hot spring complex, a pine forest and 4 mountain peaks; such is the biodiversity of the region. During your visit to Celaque, you will have the option of hiring the services of guides; there are a number of campsites and dormitories where you can stay during the trip. If you have plans of reaching the highest point of the forest, you will have to spend a minimum of 3 days here. The easiest way of reaching this national park from Gracias is through the dirt road; if you take this route you will need to cover only 8 Km before reaching Celaque.

The Barbareta Marine National Park:
Honduras’s Barbareta Island (it’s a privately owned island) has 1,250 acres of its land dedicated to a privately owned Parrot Preserve. The entire island has been declared as a protected area under the name of Barbareta Marine National Park. This national park is the home to wide variety of plant and animal species. Here, you will get to explore coconut gardens and sandy beaches. The other most exciting feature of Barbareta Marine National Park is the jungle trail of 8 miles; people taking part in this fascinating trail will get the opportunity of visiting some of the most popular Mayan archaeological destinations. The landscape boasted by this tropical island is also worth mentioning; the tourists will get the chance of enjoying some scintillating views of the coral reefs, virgin rainforest and isolated beaches.

Capiro-Calentura:
Capiro-Calentura is located on the northern coast of Honduras, few minutes away from Trujillo. The national park includes a vast area covered by tropical forest. The primary attraction in this national park is its semi-paved trail, which was originally used by a group of Spanish people. The trail will take you to a cave. Capiro-Calentura is run by an organization called FUCAGUA group. The main office of FUCAGUA group is situated in a round building located in the central region of Trujillo’s main Plaza.

Cusuco:
This national park of Honduras is primarily famous for housing a huge population of quetzals. However, you will not get to see the quetzals all round the year; the best time for viewing these birds is during their nesting season, which is from April to May. If you are in the city of San Pedro Sula, you will need only around 2 hours to reach Cusuco by car.

La Muralla:
This cloud forest of Honduras is also known for housing a bulky population of quetzals. Here, the tourists are greeted by the park’s visitor’s center, which is located within the premises of the park. La Muralla is situated in a place called La Union. To be more precise, La Muralla is situated in the country’s central territories, 200 Km towards the north of the city of Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras. According to experts, this national park is one of the best of the country as far as its infrastructure is concerned.

La Tigra:
This one is the first region of Honduras to be designated as national park. La Tigra was designated as national park in the year 1980; however, the area has stayed protected since early 1950s. La Tigra is located just outside the city of Tegucigalpa, which makes it quite an easily accessible tourist destination. All information about this park can be obtained from its own visitor’s center; you will also have the option of hiring guides while exploring La Tigra. If you feel like spending a few nights here, you will get favorable accommodation in the dormitories of La Tigra.

Pico Bonito:
This national park is set amidst dense mountain forests. Walking through the roads of this national park sometimes becomes extremely difficult due to the steep slopes. It is described as the toughest climb of Honduras. However, if you manage to explore this national park, you will have an experience that you’ll experience through the rest of your life. A visit to Pico Bonito is recommended mainly because it is home to numerous endangered species. The trail might be difficult, but at the end of the day you will never feel like regretting facing the difficulties.
