You know, there are times in life that everything just seems to go wrong all at the same moment. Anyone been there? Okay that’s all of us. We find ourselves anxious, uneasy, uncertain, disturbed and worrisome needing reassurance that God is there. I know I do. It’s in times such as these that I find comfort as God, in His Living Word, speaks to me. For example, most recently these scriptures have given me reassurance of God’s sustaining power and presence. I hope they help you this week:

- God says, “…call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.” Psalm 50:15 NIV
- “Why are you so downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for yet I will praise him, my Savior and my God.” Psalm 42:5-6a NIV
- “Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.” Psalm 54:4 NIV
- “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.” Psalm 55:22
- “Cast all your anxiety on him (God) because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 NIV

Wow! What marvelous reminders for all of us! I hope they help you this week. So, read through them again; cast all our cares on God; all of them and embrace His reassuring and sustaining power and peaceful presence today. Remember, God is greater (1 John 4:4)! Love ya’ll – Doug

On July 21, our church will embark on this great journey. Together, we will hear, read, learn, and share the greatest stories ever told. If you have ever wanted to better understand the Bible, or experience the transforming power of Scripture in your life, join us as we dive into The Story.

The Story will be the focus of upcoming sermons, discussed in Life Groups, and a part of the children’s and youth programming. The book will be made available for families to read together and discuss. You will also be able to follow Doug’s blog, online at our website, for additional insight and encouragement.

The Story is a brand new resource that makes the Bible more readable and understandable than ever!

All the stories of the Bible have been collected from a contemporary translation of the Bible and placed in chronological order, so that the Bible reads like a book! Each chapter is connected with the last, creating a seamless narrative of God’s great deeds and dealings with mankind.

As a church, we will begin reading the first chapter during the week of July 14 in preparation for the first sermon, “Creation: The Beginning of Life” on Sunday, July 21.

Books will be available beginning Sunday, June 30 for $10.

You know, I had planned on beginning a new sermon series today on the 10 commandments entitled ‘Life’s Borders & Directives’. But a terrific conversation that my Life Group had this past week on last Sunday’s message, led me to change up my plans, and put that start off a week. I love my Life Group and as we were discussing last Sunday’s message (that’s what the sermon outlines & life lessons in our bulletin each week are for-just so ya know), and I felt God’s Spirit prompting me to go back to John 15 again and dig a little deeper; there’s just too much there to spend just one week on. In fact, I really wish I could have video-taped our Life Group’s conversation and replayed it this Sunday. So, I will attempt to cover a number of the questions and points of application we made.

Turn to John 15:1-17 and let’s ponder this, what is the overall impression of the church – good or bad? Bad, isn’t it? In our life lived; do others see Jesus in us? I wonder! No we’re not perfect, but are we so connected with Jesus that others want what we’ve got – a life-transforming relationship with Jesus that is bearing fruit for Him?

Jesus Is! Are We? Ponder this and then come this Sunday as we discuss it further.

Love ya so much! – Doug

You know, the more I live life, the more I’ve come to really appreciate our awesome God. Especially when it comes to His constant watch-care over us as His children. He doesn’t leave us out there hanging to fend for ourselves in life. It’s like this, our loving Heavenly Father has our best interest in mind. So much so, that He’s given us 10 Commandments for how to live life to it’s fullest. Now, they’re not suggestions mind you, but rather commandments – directives – not optional. In fact, they’re more like borders and directives for a life that truly honors God and influences our relationships with others. In effect, God says to us as His children, “Now, live within these life borders and according to these 10 directives every day. Sure, life may still be difficult at times, but I have your best interest in mind – I’ve got your back. I want you to live and experience an abundant life. So, live within these life borders and according to these 10 directives.” So, will we; are we? Or are we still trying to forge our own path? How’s that going for us? Because when we live according God’s 10 borders and directives, our love for God will absolutely impact our love for others.

Come join us as we explore 10 of life’s borders and directives given to us by God!

Praying & Praising! – Doug

In this series beginning on Sunday, April 7 we will examine the seven 'I AM' statements made by Jesus interwoven throughout the New Testament book of John.

In this series beginning on Sunday, April 7 we will examine the seven ‘I AM’ statements made by Jesus interwoven throughout the New Testament book of John. Amazingly, each of these statements reveal a divine characteristic and attribute of God fleshed out for all to see in Jesus’ life. In other words, as we see Jesus so we see God! The question then becomes, as His followers, are we living with this same purpose in mind? In our life lived, do others see Jesus, or better yet, see God in our day-to-day lives? In other words, as others see us do they see Jesus? Jesus IS! Are WE?

Consider these words from John 1:14, 18 NIV, “The Word (context; Word = Jesus) became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth…No one have ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known.” Jesus IS! Are WE? In other words, as we see Jesus so we see God! So, in our life lived, do others see Jesus, or better yet, see God in our day-to-day lives? Jesus IS! Are WE?

Come join us as we examine the answer. See ya Sunday friends! And don’t forget, our God is greater! Love ya – Doug

Dick shared with us in Sunday School today that he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s 2 years ago and is starting to see some signs that its progressing.

“As we worshiped the Lord today, with tears streaming down my face, I had some stern words for the Lord. Why Lord?! It’s not fair Lord!!! He’s such a good man – such a wonderful father and husband – such a servant for you – he has served the congregation for so many years……I cried and complained…..the Lord listened and comforted.

After the message, during the invitation time, I felt the Lord’s gentle push to go back a few pews where Dick, Lorraine and some of their children were. I gave him a hug and told him I loved him. He asked if I would go down front with him so he could share with the congregation what he is facing. I was honored to do so!!!

As I sit here, again with tears streaming down my face, I know that the Lord doesn’t give us more than we can handle. Each of us is given strength for THIS task, for THIS day, for THIS season. Just as he gave Israel just enough manna for THAT day he will give Dick and Lorraine along with their family the ‘manna’ for THAT day!”

We are often given a glimpse into the life and character of an individual by their last few spoken words. For example Daniel Webster, a statesman and senator during the Civil War, on his deathbed said these last words, “I still live!“ In this series, we’ll explore the final seven short, yet extremely powerful sayings of Jesus while he hung on the cross. Experiencing excruciating pain; Jesus, taking upon Himself the sins of all mankind, spoke these final words. They will forever reveal His character as well as the ultimate purpose of His life and death. Leading up to Resurrection Sunday on Sunday, March 31 – we’ll explore these the final words of Jesus!
