Summer Family Fun – Art Institute of Chicago

Our fifth grade Cultural Arts field trip is a spring trip to the Art Institute. This year, Sue and Charlie Pipal mapped out the Art Institute location of the art pieces that correspond to our monthly Cultural Art classroom presentations. So if the newly redesigned Art Institute is on your list of summer family fun, here is a Central School Cultural Arts document to help you find the pieces of art, or representational pieces, that our students have seen and talked about in 6 years of cultural art presentations.

Help Wanted: Central School PTO Committee Chair Volunteers (2009-2010)

Are you looking for a great opportunity to help our kids and Central School? If so, we need your help. The following PTO Committee Chair/Co-Chair positions are available and looking for enthusiastic volunteers:

Book Fair – Lead and coordinate the spring fund raiser April 5 – 9, 2010. There are many assistant volunteers to help – we need someone to coordinate their activities in setting up, decorating, scheduling for classrooms, cashiers, and clean-up. This annual event is much loved as it encourages a life-long passion for books and reading.

Central 100% Fund – Promote and monitor participation in the PTO’s most lucrative fund raiser. Please help us lead up this effort to solicit tax-deductible contributions. This funding supports PTO programs and activities. The 100% Fund Chair is a great position for those with availability during non-school hours (you set your schedule!).

Cultural Arts – Classroom – a Co-Chair is needed from October 2009 through May 2010, to ensure the assigned volunteers have their classroom schedules and available materials for the monthly presentations. Please help us facilitate bring the arts into our kids’ classrooms.
(Note – the Cultural Arts Fieldtrip Chair and Co-Chair positions have been filled.)

Halloween Play – Produce our very own PTO Halloween play. A fan favorite! No writing experience needed as we have a playwright, but we lack a producer.

Turn-off-TV Week – let’s “unplug” for a week. We need a Chairperson, or a team of chairpersons, to coordinate this annual event that encourages our kids to turn off the TV, as well as other electronic media (computers, games, music, etc.).

Input Needed for June 23rd Budget Meeting

The 2009-2010 budget meeting is happening on June 23rd. If you chaired a committee in 2008-09 or are chairing one in the 2009-10 year, please review the expense line item for your committee. The PTO usually assumes that a committee requires the same amount of funding as was spent last year. If you feel that your committee requires more or less funding, we want to hear that. If you spent a lot of your own money to make an event happen, we want to hear that too! If you have already communicated with the board regarding this issue, we have that request on file and do not need another. Our fundraising VP, Samantha Durst, will be in touch with you if you are chairing a committee that is an income line item.

Registration Forms Due June 10th

If you haven’t already done so, please make sure you register your child for the next school year by Wednesday, June 10th. Forms and information about early registration for returning students are available on the district website. Click on “Resources” and then “09-10 Registration-RETURNING student.” You can print the form and fill it out by hand (Non-Fillable form in pdf) or type the information in the form and print it (Fillable form in Word). The forms need to be signed and returned to the Central School Office with a check for school fees by June 10th.

Fifth Grade Clap Out is 2:50 Thursday 6/4

The Central tradition of saying good-bye to the 5th graders is Thursday 6/4 at 2:50. Our 5th graders walk through the halls to the cheer and clapping from their fellow Roadrunners. They exit the building through the front doors for their last official time as Central students to the cheers of their parents. All Parents are encouraged to join in this wonderful tradition.

Central School Library Needs Your Help

The Library still needs volunteers to shelf books. It’s the end of the year preparation for next year. Your help is really needed. A half hour just after drop off or before pick-up is greatly appreciated.

Corrected: Roadrunner Pickup Party June 17th 10:30AM

By popular demand, to include the Talent Show, Clap Out, and other end of the year memories, delivery of the Central School Roadrunner has been postponed to June 17th. All Central Students are invited to a Roadrunner Yearbook Pick-Up & Autograph Party, on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the Central School Gym.

Come see your friends, exchange autographs and enjoy some light refreshments.

Students who can’t make it on the 17th will be able to pick up their Roadrunners at the beginning of next school year. To make arrangements to pick up yearbooks sooner, contact Kim Bolton, at boltonk@centralptonews.org.

The Roadrunner Pick-Up & Autograph Party is hosted by the Central School P.T.O. Special thanks to Dr. Limperis and the Central School Custodial staff for use of the gym.

The Roadrunner Committee also is seeking volunteers to help out at the party. We’ll need people to set up, check off names as books are picked up, keep kids out of the rest of the school, and other such tasks. If you’re interested, please contact Kim Bolton or Kim Frank.

The Executive Board 09/10 invites and encourages your input

General Meeting on Tuesday June 2nd at 9:00AM in the Central Library. Babysitting will not be provided.

The planning for yet another fabulous year has begun and we want to hear from you. Because we have not officially begun our reign (the Presidency comes with a tiara) we cannot take a vote on anything.

We welcome, encourage and let’s face it… beg your input! If you are leaving Central School for bigger things (i.e. Hauser), we would love to hear from you too!
