Following the example of Cinnamon at (Mis) Adventures of a Genealogist, I will be doing a series of posts about the Civil War pension files that I have collected for my ancestors. This will be a slow series--I have lots of files to read through again.

The first pension file is a small one. Granville H. Cutright was my maternal 2nd Great Grandfather. He served as a private in Co. E, 6th West Virginia Infantry. His widow, Elizabeth Jane Beer Cutright filed for a pension after his death.

Listing includes name, age, location, and date of affadavit. If any person has more than one affadavit, I will list the number of pages in parentheses.

D. M. Cutright, M.D., no age listed, Upshur County, West Virginia, 31 March 1908. I feel certain that this is Dennis Monroe Cutright, M.D.

Thomas A. Norvell, age 77, Upshur County, West Virginia, 31 Mar 1908

George W. Burner, age 77, Upshur County, West Virginia, 31 Mar 1908

Mearbeck Ours, age 50, Upshur County, West Virginia, 4 Jun 1889

Marshall Gould, age 57, Upshur County, West Virginia, 4 Jun 1889

S. B. Phillips, age not given, Upshur County, West Virginia, 29 Dec 1877. I believe this is Sylvester Bunyan Phillips, who was Captain of Company C.

If you recognize any of these names as one of your ancestors, I'd be happy to send you a scan of the page.
