I became a member of the Ambassador program for genealogy bloggers a few weeks ago, but have not had a chance to make a post. Yesterday, I watched the recording of Thomas MacEntee's webinar at Legacy Family Tree and was inspired to make a list of the first people I want to search for when the 1940 census images go live.

Legacy Family Tree software has some great new Census resources to help you prepare a sorted list of your ancestors who should have been included on the 1940 Census. After the webinar, I downloaded the progam to my little Dell netbook and tried out the software. There is so much potential there that I finally bit the bullet and ordered a copy of Windows 7 to use on my new Mac Mini with Parallels. The coming week should be fun! My only regret since becoming a Mac girl has been missing out on some great software that is only available for Windows systems.

Anyway, I digress. The main reason for this post is to share my list of direct ancestors who should be found in the 1940 census. Both of my parents were born in 1931 and this is their first opportunity to be listed. All four of my grandparents were living in West Virginia:

Robert Hartman Stewart and

Letha Gladys Riddle Stewart in Ritchie County

Walter Dallas Martin and

Ella Katherine Cutright Martin in Rock Cave, Upshur County

Only 4 of my 8 Great-great parents were alive to be counted in 1940.

William Lincoln Stewart in Ritchie County

Granville Gainer Riddle in Ritchie County

Ralph Greely Cutright and his second wife, Byrd Rohrbough Cutright in Upshur County

Cora Morgan Martin Balsley and her second husband, Orin "Onie Balsley" in Upshur County

I don't expect many major surprises, but there are still interesting things to learn from this census, especially if any of my ancestors were part of the special sampling of people listed on lines 14 and 29.
<xhtml:img xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/CentralWvGenealogy/~4/gcv_zsrM_m0" height="1" width="1" />
