Library Uses StarID and Gets a New Look for the Catalog

Great news! You can now use your StarID and password to access library resources from off-campus or to login to your library account to see what you have checked out or to renew items. For those of you who have your barcode memorized, you can still use that with your last name as password to login as well.

We are still working to change all our documentation to reflect StarID access.

In addition to this welcome change, our catalog interface has been upgraded and looks a little different. The options for limiting searches have moved from the left side to the right side, but other functionality is still the same, with the added ability to browse both our ebooks and our physical books by call number. It’s like virtually browsing the shelf.

We hope StarID simplifies your library research!

Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys

Our display case this March features books from the Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys, received through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. This collection, which also includes DVDs and a subscription to the Oxford Islamic Studies Online database, was selected to familiarize U.S. audiences with the people, places, history, faith, and cultures of Muslims in the U.S. and around the world. Manga!

We have added Manga to our Popular Reading collection. You can find titles like Astro Boy,The Ghost in the Shell, Bleach, and others. Working with the student Genshiken club, we will select and add additional titles over time and we plan to add Anime to our Popular Films collection as well.

Black History Month

February is Black History Month. The double theme for 2013 is: At the Crossroads of Freedom and Equality: The Emancipation Proclamation and the March on Washington. 2013 marks the 50th and 150th year anniversaries of these significant events. In 1863, President Lincoln's controversial Emancipation Proclamation was enacted, freeing all slaves in the United States. In 1963, The March on Washington marked a turning point in the civil rights movement. The library display case is featuring an excellent collection of books on these historic and important topics. Come to the library for resources on these extraordinary events.

The library will be closed to the public from December 21 through January 6. During this time, library staff will be available to answer the phone, except on Saturdays, Sundays, December 25, and January 1. Grzimek's Animal Life Encyclopedia Available Online

Veterans Day 2012

Veterans Day is November 11. The theme for 2012 is “Honoring All Who Served.” Veterans Day honors all American veterans, both living and dead but is largely intended to honor and thank living veterans who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime.

The library display case for November is highlighting books from the library collection that feature veteran’s issues. Some of the featured topics include: returning Veterans, women in the military, military careers, and personal stories of veterans from World War II, Vietnam, and Iraq.

This Veterans Day, please take the time to thank those friends and neighbors that have served our country.
