Are you investing in a Business or A System?

I have received a few emails this week asking what type of "system" I have in place for my business. As I proceed to tell the second person of the day about my "system," I began to wonder if anyone invests in a business anymore or are they just looking for a system to do it all for them?

Let's go back a little over a year to March 2006. I had just dropped some more of my hard earned cash into another home based business. This business was going to be it for me; it was going to make me the money I needed to be able to stay at home. The system was great. It was going to do practically everything for me while I was working at my full-time job. Well, before I could even get started, that system that was making so much money for all these people and the sole reason that I joined the business in the first place, fell apart and I was stuck with a ton of "product" that I would never use! What on earth was I thinking? I have a Bachelor's in Business for crying out loud and I had gone and spent a lot of money on a product that no one in their right mind would want, "but they sure had a great system!"

Well, why did this system that had worked so well for others stop when I joined? No, it wasn't me; it was because a system, for the most part, is only good for so many people. After a certain number of people tap into it, it stops working all together because it is maxed out. If you have a product you hate, no system, and no clue as to how to market it because everyone in your upline has been depending on it for years, or because it is simply not a good product, then what are you going to do? Especially if it is a product that you are not passionate about or wouldn't normally purchase otherwise. You're stuck!!

So, the lesson of the day? Invest in a business with a product that you:
1.) use or know there is a need for
2.) are passionate about
3.) have a clue as to why anyone would want to spend money on it other than to start their own business
4.) have researched.
5.) can market.

For some reason, when people invest in an online business, all their knowledge of successful business models is gone with the wind! It's like the online world is another dimension and real world logic and basic business principles no longer apply! Well, I really hate to break it to you but it doesnt work that way! Before investing in any business, you must do your research! If you were going to invest $100,000 in a franchise, wouldnt you do your research and find out what kind of market is available and what kind of market will be available in the future?

No system can take you all the way. You have to think like you are investing millions of dollars into this business because, if you choose the right business and have the right mindset, it will become a million dollar business. People are doing it every day online from home. The difference? They did their research, found a product that could succeed online and off with or without a "system."

So if you want to succeed in the online world and really build a business that will take you into retirement and beyond, ask yourself, is this something I would buy if I weren't looking for a business I can work from home? Is there a market for this product? Do I know anyone who would purchase this product? How would I market this product if no system existed? Once you answer those questions and feel confident about your answers, you may have just found yourself a business! Now, go out and invest in some tools to help you leverage your time and set up your own system, and this time next year, you won't be starting all over from scratch!

Finding Your Niche

You have made the decision to work from home, be your own boss, and make your own hours. That's great! Now what do you do? Well, the good news is there are thousands of home business opportunities available to you to earn an income from home. Type work at home, home business, or home business opportunities in any search engine and you will find millions of sites with people who have the best product or business out there. So needless to say, the opportunities are limitless! While it may seem like a daunting task to begin sifting through all of the information and potential businesses, I have a few tips that may help you narrow the search.

First, find a niche that interests you. When I made the decision to become a stay at home mom, there were a few things that I knew I would miss about my job- one of those was the opportunity to travel to places I would have never gone otherwise. But, instead of trying to find a way to incorporate that into my business, I signed up for whatever business someone recommended to me and wasted a lot of time and money. After about seven businesses later, I realized that my failure was because it was not something I was passionate about or enjoyed. So, at that point I re-evaluated my priorities and made a list of things that my business had to have that I was not willing to sacrifice. That is when things began to change.

Next, research the industry you are interested in. Remember, even though this is a home business, you must treat it like a billion dollar business. You do not want to get involved in an industry that is not going to be around in ten years. When researching the travel industry, I found that it is the fastest growing industry in the world and currently generating 7 trillion dollars a year. This number is expected to double in the next ten years as the number of baby boomers nearing retirement increases. With this information in hand, I was confident in my decision to find a home business in the travel industry and was fortunate enough to have joined two great companies (TraVerus and Coastal Vacations) that not only allowed me to quit my full-time job, but also has some perks like getting to travel as a family for free or at huge discounts, so this suited me and my family perfectly.

As I searched this evening, I found 580,000,000 home business opportunities on the internet. You are going to find people in all types of businesses that want to sign you up for the "next big thing" (their business). While it may be the next big thing for them, if it is not something that you are excited about, your chance of success decreases drastically. Whenever I am talking with a potential business partner, the first question I ask is, "Do you enjoy traveling?" If they say no, I end the conversation there because I want people to succeed. If you have to drag yourself to the computer and force yourself to work, you might as well be back in your job. Don't do it to yourself. Take the time to do your research, think about things that interest you and find a business that will not only provide you with an income, but you will also enjoy. Honey, I'm Home!

Ok, so it's been a while since my last post, but a lot of wonderful things have happened. When I started on this blog I was making arrangements to leave my full-time job. As most of you know this takes some planning, and I am excited to say that on July 16, I left my full-time sales job to be a stay at home mom, wife, and home business owner. It feels so amazing to actually be able to type that!

While I did like my job (for the most part), I was always torn between home and work and felt like I was never giving either one what they deserved. I loved having the interaction with customers and co-workers, but by the time I got home (that is, if I was able to come that night), my son was tired and cranky and so was I. I had just about enough energy to take the food I had picked up at the drive-thru, put it on plates, and enjoy the hamburger and french fries with my family. Not a healthy way to live. I felt like I was missing so much of my child's life, and my own, that I just couldn't take it anymore! So I continued to search for the opportunity that would allow me to be able to leave my job and stay at home full-time. I had prayed for years for God to show me a way to make money from home if this was his will for me and after I had wasted a lot of money on different opportunities, I found it.

After trying affiliate marketing, being a work at home call agent, and about seven or eight other businesses to no avail, Coastal Families Worldwide, a Christian based team of Coastal Vacations, finally worked. Why did this business work for me when others did not? First of all, I knew what I wanted and needed out of a home business. I did not want to do a work from home job because I would still have to rely on childcare, I didn't want to do home parties because I wanted to really work from home, and I wanted to be able to work with my son at my side. Coastal Families Worldwide gave me the opportunity to make big commissions from day one, which I needed to replace my salary from my full-time job, a director who was dedicated to working with me to help get my business off the ground, I don't have to leave my house at all, and most importantly, it is Chrisitian based and God is very much a part of my business. It has truly been a blessing and given me such a piece of mind.

While it has been an adjustment being at home full-time, it has been the best decision that I have ever made. I get to work from home with my son by my side and make a great income. The best advice I can give anyone looking to work from home is to make a list of what it is you want out of your home business or work at home job and don't settle for anything less. But, be realistic, there is a learning curve and just because the money doesn't roll in overnight, it doesn't mean it isn't going to work for you. Be patient, be persistent, and never give up.

So if you take anything from this post, it would be to truly understand what it is you are trying to achieve and go after it; settle for nothing less! You will be glad you didn't in the long run. God Bless!

Home Business vs. Work at Home Job

When you have made the decision to make money from home, you must know which route you want to take. Both home businesses and work at home jobs allow you to make money from home; however, there are a lot of differences between the two. It is extremely important to know what you are looking for in an opportunity before jumping in. What is it that you desire the most? Do you want to be your own boss? Do you want to lose the commute? Do you want to eliminate child care? If you want to achieve your goals for yourself and be successful from home, you must pick the opportunity or job that will give you what you are looking for; this can save you a lot valuable time and money!

If you are looking for a way to make money from home without having to commute to and from the office and the thought of working in your pajamas really makes you happy, but you don't like the idea of actually being the owner of a business, then maybe a work from home job is for you. There are a lot of companies that are hiring people to work from home to do things such as phone work, taking calls for large corporations for customer service, order taking, and many other roles. There is usually no investment involved except for maybe a seperate telephone line and a headset, but no large sums of money are expected. These jobs typically pay $8.00 plus an hour, depending on the hours (you can get paid more on weekends), plus you get to pick your hours and days to work. The only thing is that a lot of work at home jobs require that no children be in the home at the time you are working or taking calls. I guess it wouldn't sound too professional if your three year old came tearing in while you're trying to help someone place an order. So, unless you are working while your spouse is at home and you have a place where no noise can be heard, you would probably still require childcare. But keep in mind, you still get the flexibility you wouldn't have if you were in an office.

Home business opportunities are another way to make money from home. With a home business opportunity, you can make your own hours like with a work at home job, but you are the one in charge of your business. There are thousands of home business opportunities available,so it is important to do your due diligence and make sure that you choose an opportunity that you feel comfortable with and enjoy doing. With a home business, since you are the boss/president, you make the rules so if you don't want to have to pay for childcare, you don't have to. One great thing about home business opportunities is the chance to make an unlimited income, whereas, work at home jobs have set pay. On the other hand, it is important to note that most home business opportunities require some sort of investment. Also, some opportunities require you to do parties or go out and sale, so like I stated earlier, make sure to do your research and find a company that best suits your personalty. Also, make sure that you will receive proper training and support to get your business off on the right foot. A lot of opportunities have a system in place that can be duplicated as long as you follow it accordingly.

While home business opportunities and work at home jobs both offer flexibility and the ability to earn an income from home, there are pros and cons to both, as with an job or business. If you take the time to truly research all of the options and know what you want going in and stick to it, you will not only save time but even better-money! One important thing to note is that no matter what you read, no work at home job or business opportunity is not going to require you to do some work. IT DOESN'T EXIST! If it says that you don't have to do anything and just sit back and make money, run in the other direction because it's not happening- its a scam. If opportunities like that did exist, we would all be rich without having to lift a finger! I hope that you find this information resourceful!

Welcome to the CEOs from Home Blog! I created this blog to be a resource for work at home moms, stay at home moms, anyone researching home business opportunities, or those who are tired of being a slave to their jobs and want more family time.

In today's society, it has become almost impossible for families to live on one income, so more and more parents are forced to leave their children in daycare or with a sitter while they go off to work. In most cases, the child(ren) are completely content in daycare or with a sitter; however, it is the parents that feel guilty and struggle with this reality. With more and more jobs requiring time beyond the once typical nine to five, there is even less time for family time.

My goal with this blog is to let you in on my journey from award-winning full time, employee of a Fortune 100 company to work at home mom/ ceo of a million dollar home business. I want to share with you the ins and outs of working from home and help you make money from home without making the same mistakes that I did and to prevent you from wasting as much time and money getting started as possible.
