<p>In 1980, Seagate introduced the ST506, described by the Computer History Museum as the first hard-disk drive for microcomputers. It stored five megabytes—five times the capacity of a standard floppy disk at the time—and fit in the physical space of a 5¼-inch floppy drive.</p>
<p>Five megabytes sounds microscopic now. At the time, the shift was conceptual: a personal computer could keep a meaningful body of software and information close at hand rather than treating every session as a sequence of removable disks.</p>

<p>Each step changes behavior. When storage became local, people accumulated files. When intelligence becomes local, people may accumulate private models, personal context and automated routines that belong to the device rather than an account in the cloud.</p>

<p>Skild AI is using NVIDIA’s physical-AI stack to teach robots new tasks from a single video demonstration. NVIDIA highlighted the work on September 14 after publishing the underlying announcement on September 10.</p>
<p>The important phrase is not “humanoid robot.” It is “from a single video.” Industrial automation has traditionally depended on carefully programmed motions in controlled environments. A system that can observe, generalize and adapt moves robotics closer to instruction by example.</p>

<p>Factories and warehouses contain thousands of tasks that are valuable but too variable or too infrequent to justify traditional automation. Faster teaching could make smaller batches and changing environments economically reachable.</p>
<p>The unresolved questions are the real signal: how reliably the lesson transfers to different objects, lighting, robot bodies and failure conditions; how many human corrections are still required; and whether the robot knows when its learned behavior no longer applies.</p>

<p>Anthropic launched Claude for Financial Advisors, a set of tools connecting Claude with investment analytics and wealth-management systems. The announced integrations include software and data associated with BlackRock, Charles Schwab, Addepar, Envestnet, iCapital, Orion, Wealthbox, Wealth.com and Zocks.</p>
<p>The target is not autonomous investing. It is the work surrounding an adviser’s judgment: preparing for meetings, reviewing portfolios and handling follow-up work. That distinction matters because professional AI products become more useful when they fit an existing chain of responsibility instead of pretending to replace it.</p>

<p>The lesson travels beyond wealth management. A small AI business does not need to build a universal assistant. <p>A practical test: choose a niche where errors matter, data arrives in predictable forms and professionals already pay people to assemble information. Sell saved preparation time and better organization, not “AI.” Security, audit trails and human approval are part of the product, not optional polish.</p>

<p>MediaTek unveiled the Dimensity 9600 Pro, its first smartphone processor built on TSMC’s 2-nanometer manufacturing process. It also announced the 3-nanometer Dimensity 9600M for a broader part of the flagship-phone market. MediaTek says phones using both chips are coming soon.</p>
<p>The Pro chip includes a dedicated neural processing unit for generative-AI work on the device. MediaTek reported a 51% improvement over the prior generation in the stage that processes a user’s prompt before generation begins. That is a company performance claim, not an independent benchmark, but the direction is unmistakable: more intelligence is being pushed from distant data centers into the object in your hand.</p>

<p>Local AI can reduce latency, preserve more privacy and keep selected functions working when connectivity is poor. It may also create a new dividing line between phones: not simply camera quality or screen size, but how much useful intelligence can run without asking the cloud for permission.</p>
<p>The cost is physical. Advanced chips compete for power, cooling and battery life. They are also arriving while AI demand is straining the semiconductor supply chain. The next AI-phone contest may therefore be about efficiency rather than raw model size.</p>
