針對 Mark Zuckerberg 的國會聽證會，作者認為一般所討論的隱私洩露其實不是科技或科技業帶給我們的主要問題，科技成癮才是。

首先，就算擁有了大量的用戶數據，一般的廣告推薦演算法還是笨的可以:

Trust me, the guy behind the register at the deli where I get my morning coffee knows me a hell of a lot better than Mark Zuckerberg ever will.

其次，一般人對線上隱私好像也沒那麼在意:

The attention economy’s lack of respect for our privacy is well established… And we just keep clicking away, often at the expense of everything else in our life.

真正的問題是我們像毒蟲一樣對科技上癮了:

…the fact that we can’t get off this fucking machine.

我們在科技上面投入了不成比例的時間，常常導致忽略了自己生命中更看重的部分(如家庭、朋友等)。 靠用戶數據維生的公司如 Facebook 從此獲得了巨大的利益， 這個問題不是簡單消滅掉 Facebook 就可以解決的:

A junkie doesn’t quit because one dealer gets busted.

詞彙:

1. schadenfreude: pleasure derived by someone from another person’s misfortune.

2. sanctimonious: making a show of being morally superior to other people.
