Kindness To Animals–AKM News September 2010

This is the September News and Update From Rosemarie Tingle, who single handed founded Animal Kinship Ministry 2 years ago, and does such great saving work through this organization for Animals!

“I care not much for a man’s religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it”

Hi all,

1. September 2010 marks the second Anniversary

of our Animal Kinship Ministry here at the Center for Spiritual Living, Capistrano Valley!! It has been a busy two years!!!I invite you to read the attached article which was the inspiration for our ministry. It appeared in the Best Friends magazine section, Animals and Religion, page 18 titled, “The Kindness Revival, Why Don’t Churches Preach Compassion for Animals”, by then-CEO, Paul Berry. At the end of the article you will find suggestions on how you can promote kindness to animals in your church. I was delighted to actually meet Mr. Berry this year at the annual Animals and Religion conference held at Chapman University in Orange, California.

2. The Humane Society of the United States also has an Animals and Religion program. If you click on the website below, it will take you to the HSUS video titled “Eating Mercifully” from the Christian perspective. Sit back with a cup of coffee and be inspired.

This is Justice on the cover. He was headed for slaughter when he escaped from a truck and ran. A wildlife officer subbdued him with a shot from a transquilzer gun, serendipitously saving him: The new drugs in Justice’s system made him unfit for human consumption.

Justice arrived at Peaceful Prairie Sanctuary as a scared steer who, according to his caretaker, had “banged himself up terribly”on the trailer ride heading to the slaughter house, breaking his left horn. But Sherman, another steer at the sanctuary, saw Justice’s agitated state and started licking him through the fence to calm him down. That act of kindness appears to have made an impression on Justice, who’s now made it his mission to ease the fears of all the scared newcomers. He’ll stand by them–all night if he has to , as in the case of a terrified sheep name Rowdy who stopped crying after his new friend came to his side.

“And he does it consistently; he does it across species,” says Ninety Five co-editor Diane Leigh, who visited Justice and wrote the chapter devoted to him in the book. “Everyone who goes to that sanctuary talks about Justice. He has such an aura around him, in the same way if you met a really profound person, you would get that same kind of thing. His lesson of just utter kindness and wanting to relieve other creature’s suffering and fear–it was very moving.”

Namaste,

Please pass the attached pdf flyer to anyone you feel can adopt or foster these precious kitty cats. The shelter has given them till Aug 31. If anyone needs more info, please contact;

___________________

Special Note: Much money and time by nonprofits have been devoted to educating and helping people spay and neuter pets. Some feel we should have a mandatory spay and neuter law, some do not. For the second year in a row, to reduce the cost of sheltering and euthanizing the animals at shelters, the California Governor decided to have more animals euthanized, sooner. I would say that is addressing the effect and not the cause. Animals should not have to give up their life simply because there is not enough room at a shelter.

“Here are some statistics about unwanted cats from the California State Dept of Public Health. These numbers are only the reported numbers for the state, and are conservative since some jurisdictions only partially reported and some jurisdictions did not report at all:

- Year 2008, cats entering shelters: 409,317
- Year 2008, cats euthanized in shelters: 270,756
- Other dead cats collected: 56,898

This brings the total of dead cats for 2008 to 327,654. “

It’s The Water, Stupid!

No, I’m not trying to play Dr. Quack Quack here! I’m not dispensing medical advice, or anything else! Just some questions…for YOU.

I’ve posted written water before and no doubt, will do it again. Here are a few questions to get your lazy reptilian brain to think, and maybe, please Lord, just DO SOMETHING!

Do you think your WATER might be the most important nutrient you can put into YOUR body? (do you think at all, before you open your trap and shove ‘food’ into it?).

What if your replaced all those daily sugar cocktails (it doesn’t matter what guise they come under!) you consume, with WATER?

What if you drank WATER because you weren’t thirsty?

What if the possibility of drinking two 8 ounce glasses of WATER before a meal could encourage weight loss?

Do YOU think that gives you license to go order ‘Super Size’…Yeah it probably does, if you’re like 64% of other Americans!

With all the time you spend on social media sites, will you spend some time on the first page of Google looking at the ‘benefits of WATER’?

When will you wake up? Is it when that other clear liquid will be running into YOUR veins? And it won’t be WATER!

You’re smart, whether you think so or not. Get advice, see your Doctor, take control and do something now!

To your health, Chad

It’s Monday, Let ‘All Health Break Loose’!

I was searching for ‘pictures of Monday’ and I ran across this picture a few pages back.

It is per-r-r-fect for Monday. Monday, the dreaded day of days, for countless billions on this planet. I think many of us fear Monday more than Armageddon itself!

Let all health break loose this day and DO things dramatically different for yourself, and your Health today!

Do not wait! Shake Monday up, and PUT YOURSELF, in charge of your health. Lack of control, horrid eating habits, being a sloth, lazy, not exercising, not getting medical advice, not caring, is also about you taking charge–Is this how YOU want to be in charge??

People everyday decide to say no, they’ve had enough, they turn 180* and go forward in a new direction for health–their health! Why can’t you? It’s a rhetorical question…there are NO can’ts!!!

‘Life is not a dress rehearsal’. You have one life, one body and one opportunity. DO SOMETHING and do it well!

You’re an intelligent person, you can do this. Get going and have a Great Monday!

To your success, Chad

Why is action important now? The earthquake that devastated the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, and surrounding areas in January 2010 killed more than 200,000 people and injured over 300,000. Houses and businesses were destroyed, leaving 2 million people displaced from their homes. Haiti, the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere before the earthquake, is struggling to recover due to capacity, human, resource, and infrastructure constraints. Recent legislation introduced by Representative Conyers (MI), H.R. 6021, the Haiti Emergency Assistance and Reconstruction (HEAR) Act, provides an effective policy framework for long-term recovery and development efforts in Haiti and allocates generous funding over 5 years towards this goal.

What is the Church’s position? The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and Catholic Relief Services (CRS), the Catholic community’s international relief and development agency, believe that the recovery efforts in Haiti require adoption of a strategy for long-term recovery and sustainable development that coordinates different U.S. government agencies in a comprehensive approach while engaging faith-based organizations and other groups with expertise and experience in Haiti. In a letter of support for HR 6021, CRS and USCCB stated that this bill represents a serious effort to address the long-term recovery needs of the Haitian people.

What does the situation in Haiti have to do with my Catholic faith? Our Catholic faith calls on us to uphold the life and dignity of all human life and to be in solidarity with our brothers and sisters, especially poor and vulnerable people. The devastation in Haiti affects all of us because we are all part of the human family. As Catholics, we must take action to assist our brothers and sisters in Haiti who are struggling to recover.

How is the Catholic Church responding to the Haiti earthquake? In partnership with Caritas Haiti and other Catholic Church agencies, CRS has provided food, medical care, and shelter to affected populations and is helping to rebuild critical infrastructure such as water and sanitation facilities. CRS additionally supports child protection programming, which includes family tracing to reunite separated children with their families, where possible, and the pursuit of durable solutions for orphaned children. CRS is also working throughout Haiti to assist the displaced located outside of the earthquake zone, and, through agriculture and microfinance programs, to help them find the means to remain in the countryside.

In a collection taken up after the earthquake, Catholics in the United States contributed $80 million to recovery efforts in Haiti, which is being used to provide assistance and to help restore Haiti’s infrastructure, including churches, schools, and clinics. CRS and the Secretariat for the Church in Latin America of the USCCB are administering the funds, in consultation with the bishops of Haiti. USCCB and CRS are actively advocating for U.S. government policies that assist Haitians in need and promote long-term reconstruction and development.
