Of course they made me step on the scale. I wasn't happy when I saw the numbers 250. 250... that was/is my wall. I had told myself for years that if I ever hit 250 pounds, I will starve myself. Well not really but you know what I mean...

In any event I had hit my limit and knew I need to make some changes. Over the past 20 years my weight had slowly creeped up. Not the direction I wanted to go. I talked to my wife Becky about it and told her, I need to do something different. We were going on vacation soon and that isn't the best time to start a diet program. So we took the next couple of weeks doing some research and deciding which program we wanted to go with.

I talked with my doctor and his nurse about dieting and wanted their suggestions. There are a number of diets out there to choose from. A number of them are designed to help you lose weight but really make it hard for you to maintain your weight. We were not looking for a quick fix diet. We are were looking for something that will help us to not only lose weight but help us be more aware of what we eat. My doctor recommended Whole30.

On July 15th we started on the Whole30 plan. It is not a typical "diet". Whole30 is designed to help you reset your health and eating habits. It's not easy at first. If you are like me you will cut out alot of the junk we like to eat and drink. The first week was the hardest. Most of it being mental. The hardest part honestly is breaking our mental habits of what we eat.

In five days we will finish our first round of Whole30. I can't wait to weigh and measure myself. I can tell you that I already feel better physically and mentally. I am planning on using this blog to record my journey. In my next post I will talk about my goals and how I hope to achieve them. Please join me for the journey.

Whole30 is Over... Now What?

This week Becky and I wrap up our Whole30 diet. As I mentioned in my last post the Whole30 diet is designed for 30 days, to reset your body and eating habits. So now what? I have been accused of being the type that over analyzes things. Before making most decisions I do my research. Before doing our diet I knew I wanted to lose weight. I had to set some goals.

When I started this journey I was at 250lbs. I knew I wanted to lose weight but how much? After consulting with my doctor and doing my own research I have found my "ideal" weight is 175 pounds. I believe to achieve weight loss goals it requires a common sense diet and some kind of workout routine. I don't really like the term "diet', it is more of a lifestyle eating change. Which I will talk about in a later post. A workout routine also needs to be common sense. Just going to the gym and pumping iron without a plan really does not do you much good. That too will be in a later post soon.

So what are my goals? Here you go...

Get my weight down to 185bs

Get physically fit

Go climb a mountain

Getting down to 185lbs is not the end game. Jut my first goal. It's not like when I get there I will think "Ok Im done!" I plan on actually getting down to 170. Thats the ultimate goal. Then I hope to manage myself in a weight range of 170-190.

Getting physically fit is a result of the new energy from a healthy diet. We used to go to a gym but keep in mind my ideal weight based on my size is 175lbs. So when we were working out, I was doing a lot of impact exercises with 50-75 extra pounds on my body. Think about that. IF my body joints are designed for 170lbs that means I was beating my body with all this extra weight. So as we have been working through the Whole30 diet I have been looking at what I want to do for exercise. I will talk about it in another post, but just let me say it ain't your momma's workout.

Climb a mountain? Really?. Well Im not talking about K2 or anything. More like <strike>Harney Peak</strike> Black Elk Peak. Many people walk to the top of this mountain every day. But if I did today, it would kill me. To most it wouldn't be a big deal. For me I am using it as a reward for losing the weight, getting fit and being able to do things I have not thought possible before.

Thanks for following along on this journey.
<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://chadphillips.blogspot.com/2019/08/whole30-is-over-now-what.html' title='Whole30 is Over...
