Since the Chelsea Flower Show, the Elho raindrop inspired water butt has been getting rave reviews and huge praise from some of the biggest garden critics around.

The sun obviously isnt for everyone, so those with gardens full of shaded areas provided by trees or large foliage had a lot of visitors when people needed a few minutes to cool down.

Those who attend the Chelsea Flower Show are usually keen gardeners and looking out for things which could add that little something else to their own garden. One of the most highly sought after pieces happened to be the Elho water butt which caused quite a stir.

Not only is it dramatically shaped and inspired by natural events (rain), but its well priced considering the brand name which is extremely well known in the Netherlands. Its one of those things that will be a focal point of a garden without trying; everyone will be intrigued and want to talk about it.

Lee Taylor, product manager at GardenToolbox commented on the Elho raindrop water butt. We knew when we ordered in the Elho range that there were some fantastic pieces of kit; but we didnt foresee how much of a hit they would be. Not only is the design a statement, its functional like a regular water butt and in times like these, where hosepipe bans are in place, it makes complete sense to buy one. There are very few products in the garden market which can pull off iconic and functional at the same time, but this does it extremely well and its priced accordingly. Id urge everyone to take advantage whilst theyre still in stock, because based on incoming searches; they might not be around for very long!

STIHL Chainsaws Buying Guide

If you've been looking at different chainsaws, chances are pretty good you've come across brand names like Craftsman, Husqvarna, and STIHL. All good chains saws, and all aiming for different consumers. The Husqvarna line definitely targets the bigger industrial sized jobs, but they do also produce machines that work well for the average home owner / casual chainsaw user.

The Craftsman chainsaws (sometimes manufactured by Poulan), are more for the casual user, or maybe as a backup saw. They also make a good alternative to lugging around a big saw, if you don't want to drag your hefty STIHL or Husky off to the job site. Homelite also makes smaller chainsaws, that would be good for cutting firewood, and taking down smaller trees. Other manufacturers to consider are Jonsered, and Echo. Their not nearly as well known, but do fill a niche.

Husqvarna, and STIHL, do own the majority of the market however, with an estimated eighty percent of the market share.

Husqvarna holds a slight lead over second place STIHL. If your in the business of farming, growing, or chopping down trees, than chances your going to go for the Swedish designed and built STIHL, or the German manufactured STIHL.

STIHL has been producing chainsaws for about 70 or so years, and both their 250CBE and 180 models are amongst the most popular. THE 250CBE is more for heavy duty power users, where as the 180 is lighter, but provides great value for the money. The nice thing about STIHL saws, is they won't wear you down and beat you up. You'll be able to use them for longer stretches, and get more work down.

A Background On Chainsaws
The development of the first proper chainsaw for logging purposes came about in the 1920s. These gas-powered two-person units have since evolved into a wider variety of models.

One-person chainsaws arrived in 1950; their basic design has changed little over the years, consisting of a cutting chain on a guide bar that is rotated by a power source. While gas-powered units are still dominant, smaller electric models are increasingly available for lighter jobs. Units mounted on an extension pole can also be found, extending their reach by up to 12 feet.

No longer mere logging devices, today's chainsaws are commonly used by the average homeowner to prepare firewood and prune limbs. They are now helpful for everything from clearing trees to extracting people in motor vehicle accidents to cutting downed trees for access to roads and homes. Chainsaws are sometimes used by artists to make artistic pieces out of various materials such as ice and wood.

Gas saws remain more powerful and better suited for heavy cutting tasks. Completely portable, they feature two-cycle engines that utilize a mixture of gas and oil, and may be fitted with bars of different sizes. They are generally noisier and more expensive than electric types, however, and require additional maintenance. Emissions laws are presently resulting in cleaner, more efficient gas models that are also easier to start.

Electric chainsaws do not emit pollutants and are suitable for light cutting duties, typically within 100 feet of a power outlet. With push-button starting and less maintenance required, they are convenient for basic landscaping tasks or other small projects. Extension cords longer than 100 feet are not recommended, however, thus limiting mobility. There are also cordless, battery-powered chainsaws available for greater portability; these units have limited cutting power and must be periodically recharged, making them suitable for only the lightest duties.

Bar size is a another major chainsaw consideration, as it relates directly to the type of work being performed. Standard bar sizes are between 12 and 20 inches, and a saw's safe cutting ability is considered to be twice the bar's length, therefore a 16-inch bar is suitable for up to a 32-inch log. Bars of 12 to 14 inches are adequate for most small chores, while an 18- or 20-inch bar is necessary to remove large trees. Bars of over 20 inches can be difficult to handle and are designed for professional use.
