Is everyone getting ready for camp? I hope so! We have already had our first retreat of the year. Now that we have heat and air conditioning in the Dining Hall, we were able to have a Winter Retreat. Although there wasn’t much winter in Winter Retreat, fun was had by all!!! We started out Friday evening with some praise and worship from

“Walk-ins Welcome” and Pastor Todd Mitchell brought us the word. We followed up with some snacks and the heartwarming movie “Fly Wheel” on the Big Screen. For the adventurous people we also had a late night bonfire where we sang Christmas Carols and enjoyed the beautiful evening sky. Saturday we started out with a BIG breakfast and games in the morning. For lunch we had our Chili cook off which I think Pastor Todd won hands down. In the afternoon we broke out into the community in four teams having a picture mobile scavenger hunt. What a blast!!! On a closing note Pastor Todd brought us some more of God’s Word causing us to think about getting back to the basics. Overall Winter Retreat was a great time of fellowship and fun.

Don’t forget we have Marriage Enrichment Week End around the corner!! March 9th and 10th the curriculum we will be using is The Art of Marriage from Family Life and Pastor Rob Weuthrich and his wonderful wife Aimee will be facilitating. Are you willing to invest in your marriage? Cost will be $35.00 for the material and $35.00 for your accommodations and food per couple.

George Holley, an evangelist from Ohio, who inspired us not only through his messages, but also by his incredible gift of scripture memorization. What a challenge to each of us to hide God’s Word in our hearts like Brother George. The Missions night was amazing! The testimonies of God’s provision and guidance were awe-inspiring, and then God himself showed up in a violent thunderstorm (it reminded me of Psalm 18) that soaked the grounds, killed the power, but electrified God’s people under the main tent. Thanks to Rev. Peter Moore for bringing us the Word that night (even if part of it had to be shouted from atop a chair). Rev. Figgs brought us a pastoral perspective the remainder of our time and challenged us to move from mere “Christians” to “disciples” of Jesus Christ. The youth and children’s programming brought additional excitement to the campgrounds. My thanks to all (newcomers and veterans) who gave of their time and talent to see that our young people experienced a tremendous Family Camp! Less than a year from now we will again make that journey from our local churches to the hallowed ground of Chambers Camp. May God richly bless your year. May he remind you and challenge you concerning the commitments you made this year at camp. And may you find yourself next year fellowshipping with us once again at Family Camp 2012 (bring a friend)!

This year at Family Camp the kids got Wild and Wacky. The 100 K-6th graders had a lot of fun hearing about wild and wacky stories in the Bible. Each day we did a rotation of a science experiment with Science Steve and Becky. We made slime, tested shampoo, broke geodes, made bubble bottles, and much more. Each experiment had a lesson that made us learn more about God and us. We also had fun in the rotation with Joel in recreation. Joel dressed up as a wacky science guy every day. Snack time was fun with Gail too. Time with Tina is always fun too. The first half of the week the kids sanded, painted and put wheels on their pine wood cars in preparation for the big Chambers Car Race that happened on Wednesday. Our days always ended with a science experiment that hopefully awed the kids. Each one had some kind of object lesson that went with it. We are happy to tell you that Linda did not burn down the Old Tab during any of the experiments! The week ended with a Science Fair in place of the annual play. Many parents and friends came to see the kids science experiments. It was a fun time for all the kids learning about God and being wild and wacky!

Family Camp’s Teen Program was filled with fun, energy, and changed lives. The group averaged about 50 teens during the week—worshipping together, learning together, and telling their stories to encourage each other. With the help of the ministry teams of SWU and IWU the teens learned about working together, God’s love, the real cost of sin and the truth of heaven and hell.

Dr. Wilbur Williams shared a special message with the teens about the real meaning of love and commitment. Four teens resolved to change their lives and be healed from their past choices and twelve resolved to give their lives back to God and make a stand for their faith in their schools. It was an exciting and inspiring week!

Camp was officially opened on May 1st. The water and power are on – even the septic is ready to go. The grounds are being cleaned up and I am already almost done with my second mowing. I have seen a few people in and out of the grounds and I am getting excited to see this place filled with God’s people!

Spring Cleanup is this weekend and we have quite a few projects lined up. I am looking forward to seeing everyone that can show up. I am so thankful God has brought wonderful people along side of me to help in his work. If for some reason you cannot make it, there will be an alternative work day on May 28th.

Has everyone registered for camp? Have you told your friends and neighbors about Chambers Camp? Have them check us out on the web. Challenge them to take a look and let God do the rest. This summer is going to be awesome!! I can’t wait to see God at work!!

God Bless,

Is everyone getting excited about your upcoming summer activities? Have you thought about including Chambers Wesleyan Camp and Retreat Center in your Vacation plans? We did and enjoy it as a summer retirement home. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us this year. I know God has big plans for his Holy Ground! I have been attending Chambers Camp since the middle 70’s as a delegate and then as a family camp camper and can tell story after story how God blessed my life or made an impact on my family because of Chambers ministry and fellowship. Joan and I have made Chambers our summer home for the past 3 years and have been volunteering with the maintenance upkeep during that time. I was given the roll of Family camp registrar in the fall of 2009. Joan has volunteered in the book store and has become my assistant as camp registrar since she has secretarial skills.

God has put Chambers on our heart for a long time. God’s timing is everything. God has worked not only in our lives but also through circumstances allowing us to take this position. Many people think we are making a sacrifice. We don’t think so. A definition of retirement is doing what you want to with who you want to, when you want to. We are excited about what God is doing at Chambers and how He is allowing us to be a part of it. We are eager to serve you and our God here as we serve Him as His ambassador!

Spring has finally sprung!!! What a beautiful ending to the week. We have been waiting for this warmer weather to come and now that it has we have started to see signs of life at camp. People have started coming in to see how their camps and campers have weathered the winter. I hope all is well with them. If you need help getting geared up for the season let me know.

We had the Mitchell family come over from West Jasper for a few days and help with the Canandaigua project. You will see a picture of Todd Mitchell, Tj Mitchell, Eric Moon, and myself with our sanding gear. We are currently working on finishing the drywall and could use a little training from a professional. Weare doing well and getting excited to start painting and putting in the fixtures. If you would like to helpwith this project please feel free to let me know when you are available.

Friday and Saturday my son Eric and I spent some quality time with the camps leaf blowers. The groundsare beginning to look much better. You can actually see green grass. We have a lot of work to do but hope to have the grounds looking beautiful by Memorial Day Weekend.

We also now have stairs into the upper level of the barn!!! Glen Falke and I built a set of stairs to the second level of the barn this afternoon. This will make it much easier to utilize the second level for storage of maintenance items and equipment.

Please pray for me and my daughter Rochelle as we will be leaving tomorrow morning on a mission trip to Romania. We will be traveling with a group from our church in Kirkville. We will be repairing a roof on a church, working in a school, doing a food ministry, along with other various projects. Please pray for safe travels and a well received ministry as we visit our brothers and sisters in Romania. We will be backjust in time for Easter.

Thanks and God Bless,
Peter Moon

Every once and a while the Chambers Wesleyan Camp Blog will do “Meet the…” Blog post. These posts will serve as a way meet various people involved with Chambers. Some you may know, others will be new acquaintances. Hopefully, these posts will be fun, and maybe a chance to make new friends!

Now, I get to go first!

My name is Christianna Walter, and I am the web master of this very site, as well, as creating many of the Camp brochures and posters. (please feel free to comment on this post about what you like/hate/wish to see on the site)

My brother, Cory and I grew up at Chambers, like so many of you did. Playing in the creek, running across thunder bridge and getting confused in trailer city. Let’s not forget that white pizza, I start craving it in about January! Throughout the years I have been involved at camp in many ways. Being one of my mom’s, Linda Walter, helpers during the Children’s Program at Family Camp, and My Camp, and for many summers I was also a lifeguard.

Being the Web master of this site has proven to be both a challenge and a blessing. I am a Graphic Designer, graduating from Roberts Wesleyan College in 2009. At the start of this project, I had taken only one semester of web design. God has been very good to me and has blessed me with people who have taught me much and helped in the development of the Chambers Web Site. Without them this site would be lacking in so many ways.

I hope you will take advantage of everything on the Chambers Web Site. Enjoy the images from previous years. Get excited about the upcoming Camps, Retreats and Events. Through this blog you can keep up with everything that Peter Moon, the Camp Manager, is working on.

I for one am very excited about the 2011 Camp Season.

White Pizza here I come!

We are truly blessed to have such servant leaders as these working for the kingdom!

We are also blessed with so many other volunteers. The Falkes are outstanding people. I have been standing on their doorstep almost every morning looking for advice from both Sherry and Glen. Glen has been my right hand man working side by side with me almost every day. I appreciate his friendship and knowledge. Sherry even though very busy with tax season still makes time to answer question after question.

Drew Rankin and Pastor Rob Ketchum (former care takers) have both made trips to Chambers to help out with advice from their years of service here at the camp. I am very blessed to be working with such wonderful people.

Let’s not forget Christi Walter and the uncountable hours she has volunteered developing the website. She is doing a great job and I encourage all of you to continue checking back to see the ongoing improvements.

I visited Canisteo on Friday and Pastor Don, Pastor Max, and some of their staff were stuffing packets to send to the various churches throughout the district. We really need to thank God for Pastor Don’s leadership and dedication to the camp. He has been the camp administrator and much more for over twenty years. That is amazing and we owe him a great deal of thanks.

I had an awesome weekend. I visited five churches just dropping off information to them and also spoke to our Karen brothers and sisters about having their own retreat this summer. Sunday I was at Baldwinsville Wesleyan and received a very warm welcome from Pastor Carl and his congregation. We are blessed to have their support.

Is everyone getting excited about your upcoming summer activities? Have you thought about including Chambers Wesleyan Camp and Retreat Center in your plans? I am Peter Moon the new manager down here at Chambers and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us this year. I know God has big plans for his Holy Ground! I have been attending Chambers since the late 70’s and can tell one story after another how Chambers has changed my life or made an impact on my family. I made the decision to marry my wonderful wife Susan here at Family Camp! Susan is my anchor and definitely my better half. We met at Kirkville Wesleyan as children and she is a graduate of Bethany Bible College who currently works from home. I have two wonderful children, Rochelle, age 19, who is attending Davis Bible College with the aspiration to go into full time Ministry when she graduates and my son Eric, age 17, who is a chip off the old block and a junior in high school. My dad Mahlon Moon and my step mom Joan have been a big part of Chambers for the past several years and I am eager to join in God’s work.

God has put Chambers on my heart for a long time. For the past Eight years my dad and I have been talking about my joining him in the ministry here at Chambers. God’s timing is everything. God has worked not only in my life but also through circumstances allowing me to take this position. I have left a thriving career in customer service and management to work for a higher purpose. Many worldly people think I am making a sacrifice. I don’t think so; I am excited about what God is doing at Chambers and how He is allowing me to be a part of it. I am eager to serve you and our God here as we make this journey together!
