"A Georgetown University student blamed the Republicans for allowing student loan rates to double, while another said that all Republicans should be put to death.

Campus Reform interviewed Georgetown students about their thoughts on student-loan reform and the GOP in general. One student gave a startling answer when asked whether he supported the Republican plan.

“I don’t think I support anything the Republicans do,” he said. “I think all of them should probably be put to death.”

Another student, who was watching the interview, chimed in with, “That was a little harsh.”

From What's it's Worth; "Reader “Jeff” sends along a link to the latest article in the White Plains tabloid, Journal-News, reporting on the hornets nest occasioned by their publication of an interactive map showing the identity and address of all registered gun owners in Westchester County and surrounding areas.

Editor Cyndee Royle defends her decision and in fact sounds quite smug about it. Her paper is apparently still trying to obtain, and publish, information on how many guns, and their type, are registered to each owner, presumably to make shopping easier for gun thieves. Nothing more disappointing than getting a Remington 870 when you’ve been hoping for a Ruger Mini Thirty.

The intern, 18 year-old Luis Abrahan Sanchez Zavaleta from Peru, who worked in a New Jersey office for Menendez, was arrested on December 6th. News of the arrest was first reported by the Associated Press.

The senator’s office was informed Monday of the arrest and the senator was informed today, Menendez said. The Senator defended his office’s action today, emphasizing that the intern applied, was recommended and vetted by his school for the internship, not the Senators office."

"A high-level government official from the Dominican Republic told The Daily Caller that New Jersey Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez and wealthy campaign donor Dr. Salomon Melgen have been having sex parties on the Caribbean nation for years.

“As far as Bob Menendez is concerned he has a very good life there,” the official said during an in-person interview with TheDC. “He likes sexual things.”

The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he fears retribution from powerful people connected to Menendez and Melgen, has direct knowledge of the goings-on at Melgen’s private villa in the luxurious Dominican Casa de Campo resort. He said Menendez travels with Melgen to the property at least three times per year.

When Menendez is there, he said, they have parties in the three-bedroom villa located in Casa de Campo’s Batey neighborhood. The parties feature “sex, hookers and drinking.”

Menendez has been going to Melgen’s villa “for at least the past three years, probably longer,” the source said.

At one party “about a year ago,” the Dominican government official said, Menendez and Melgen had “seven girls there,” all prostitutes.

“They have sex orgies, lesbian stuff — girls making out with each other and what not.”

New York Times Profit Sinks 85% – Wall Street Journal

“New York Times Co. NYT -21.97% reported an 85% drop in net earnings for the third quarter on continued declines in advertising as the publisher said it stood by its choice of former BBC Director General Mark Thompson as its next CEO.

Times Co. Chairman Arthur Sulzberger Jr. told Wall Street analysts he was "satisfied" Mr. Thompson "played no role" in the decision to kill a BBC report about sexual-abuse allegations against the late BBC talent Jimmy Savile.

Mr. Thompson "provided a detailed account" of the matter now roiling the British Parliament, and Mr. Sulzberger remains convinced that Mr. Thompson "possesses high ethical standards" and is "the ideal person to lead our company as we focus on growing our business through digital and global expansion."

Mr. Thompson is due to start as CEO on Nov. 12, nearly a year after his predecessor left. Thursday's earnings report highlighted the business challenges he will face.

The quarter showed the impact of the Times’ introduction of a digital "pay wall" to the New York Times and Boston Globe Web sites, limiting nonsubscribers' access to the sites.

The number of digital subscriptions at the Times, Globe and International Herald Tribune rose 11% from the second quarter to 592,000 and that helped lift circulation revenue to $234 million, up 7.4% from the year-earlier quarter.

But advertising revenue fell 8.9% to $182 million, primarily due to lower national display and real-estate classified revenue, the company said. Revenue slipped 0.6% to $449 million.”

Third-quarter revenue was up 0.6 percent to $449 million due partly to an increase in subscription revenue. Analysts, on average, expected $479.23 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Ad revenue at its newspapers, including its namesake daily and the Boston Globe dropped almost 9 percent on declines in both print and digital advertising revenue.

Circulation revenue rose 7.4 percent. Paid subscribers to the digital editions of The New York Times and sister paper, the International Herald Tribune, increased 11 percent and totaled 566,000.

The company reported a loss of 2 cents per share in the quarter, compared with a profit of 4 cents in the same period a year ago.”

First Voter ID’s and now billboards warning about voter frauds are being attacked by Democrats.

I hate to say it folks. The Democratic political party is dirty and most corrupt EVER.

Democrats cry foul over voter fraud billboards in Midwestern cities “Democratic lawmakers and activists nationwide are angry about a crop of billboard signs posted in early October in the Cleveland and Milwaukee areas that warn of stiff penalties for voter fraud.

The roughly 33 signs warn that "Voter Fraud is a Felony" punishable by up to 3-1/2 years in prison and a $10,000 fine, wording flanked by a large picture of a judge's gavel.

The signs will be up through the November 6 election day in the Cleveland and Milwaukee areas and were paid for by an anonymous "Family Foundation," according to a spokesman for Clear Channel Outdoor, which owns the billboards and placed the signs.

Legal and labor activists and community members said the signs deliberately target and seek to intimidate blacks and Hispanics, other minorities and the poor - as well as ex-convicts - groups key to Democrats' campaign voter drives ahead of the vote.

"The billboards create a chilling effect," said Marcia Johnson-Blanco, a co-director at the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, an advocacy group that asked Clear Channel Outdoor to remove the signs.

"It certainly leads to an atmosphere where some will think twice about voting," Johnson-Blanco said, adding Clear Channel Outdoor has not responded to the group's request.

Some of the signs were placed in white, although relatively poor, neighborhoods of Cleveland and Lorain, roughly 30 miles (48km) west.

Democrats and Republicans alike are working overtime to drive early voting in a handful of states, such as Ohio, that could decide if Democrats retain control of the White House and Senate on Election Day.

Turnout of urban minority and young voters was crucial to lifting President Barack Obama to the White House in 2008.

Republicans have worked to stiffen voting laws and bolster campaign field operations to prevent voter fraud.

City Councilwoman Phyllis Cleveland, who represents a part of Cleveland where most of the city's voting billboards are located, said the signs have "an insidious impact and they are designed to intimidate."

"I'm worried they will actually scare some of the ex-offenders, people with felony records who can vote," Cleveland said, explaining that there is confusion about felons voting because in some states it is illegal.

Signs similar to those in Cleveland and Milwaukee were placed in Wisconsin during the 2010 mid-term elections, when Republicans made huge gains in Congress.

"There is a great deal of incompetence in how our voter registration rolls are maintained and how records are kept, although we actually see very little fraud taking place at the voting place," saidRichard Hasen, a professor of law and political science at University of California, Irvine.

The signs do not amount to voter suppression, Hasen said.

"It's true that voter fraud is a felony and we don't want people committing voter fraud," Hasen said.

The content of the message is not governed by campaign advertising regulations requiring disclosure of funding sources, said the Clear Channel Outdoor spokesman, David Yale, adding that billboards were placed in areas to "reach maximum saturation" and not to racially and socio-economically profile.

Ohio State Senator Nina Turner disagreed.

"This message was targeted, planned and not only because the neighborhoods are African American but because they are poor," Turner said.

Now, I know why Ohio leans blue. Traditionally, Ohio is a Midwest state, should be a red state, but felons can vote. Thousands of voting felons can make a big difference for Democrats.

Drug Lord's Pregnant Daughter Caught Sneaking Into US: Feds “The pregnant daughter of Mexico's most famous and elusive drug lord has been caught trying to use false papers to sneak into the U.S. and give birth, say officials.

Alejandrina Gisselle Guzman Salazar, 31, was arrested on Friday afternoon at the San Ysidro crossing south of San Diego, the nation's busiest. Officials told the Associated Press that when the woman's false documents didn't match her fingerprints she admitted that she was the daughter of Joaquin "El Chapo" (Shorty) Guzman, the Sinaloa cartel chieftain long sought by both Mexican and U.S. authorities.

Guzman Salazar, who attempted to enter the U.S. on foot, reportedly told authorities she was seven months pregnant. According to the criminal complaint against Guzman Salazar, "Defendant stated that her intent was to enter into the United States and travel to Los Angeles, California in order to give birth to her child." She has been charged with fraud and appeared before a federal judge today.

In 2011, according to the Los Angeles Times, Chapo Guzman's wife crossed the border into California to give birth to twin girls at a hospital outside Los Angeles. Authorities said at the time they had no legal reason to hold Emma Coronel, a 22-year-old Mexican beauty queen and U.S. citizen.

Chapo Guzman, 54, has had at least three wives, according to authorities, including his first wife, Maria, who is Guzman Salazar's mother. The U.S. Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on Maria and on Chapo Guzman's second wife, Griselda.

A bail hearing is scheduled for Guzman Salazar on Oct. 25. She is represented by Jan Ronis, a prominent San Diego attorney who previously represented Mexican drug lord Benjamin Arellano Felix. Arellano Felix pled guilty to racketeering and money laundering in federal court earlier this year. Authorities captured Arellano after tracking his daughter's trips to San Diego.

The U.S. Attorney's office in San Diego declined to comment on defendant Guzman Salazar's identity or relationship with Chapo Guzman.”

“More than half of 2012 high school graduates who took a college entrance exam did not have all of the skills they will need to succeed in college, or a career, a pair of recent reports conclude.

Findings released Monday by the non-profit College Board show that 57% of 2012 graduating seniors who took the SAT, which it owns, earned a combined score below what it says is necessary to show that students can earn a B-minus or better in the first year at a four-year college.

A report released last month by the Iowa City-based ACT found that at least 60% of 2012 high school graduates who took its test are similarly at risk of not succeeding in college.

The tests measure different skills, but colleges that require standardized admissions tests generally accept scores from either test. Among details:

Bob Schaeffer, spokesman for FairTest, the National Center for Fair & Open Testing, said Monday that the dip in SAT scores show that high-stakes testing programs such as the federal No Child Left Behind law "have been a colossal failure."

The SAT and ACT reports attribute the relatively flat scores partly to an increasingly diverse pool of students taking their tests. The College Board, for example, reports a 61% increase since 2008 in the number of low-income test takers, based on requests for fee waivers.

College Board Vice President Jim Montoya said Monday that average scores can increase if more students have access to a rigorous college-prep curriculum. "This report is a call to action," Montoya said.

The increased participation also reflects a growing emphasis among states on preparing students for college. Nine states require high school students to take the ACT. Two states require the SAT; a third will require it starting next year.

Moreover, by the 2014-15 academic year, 46 states will have put into place some or all of a set of common core state standards developed by the Council of Chief State School Officers and the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices.

"The expectation will no longer be just to graduate students but to really be preparing students for college," says Chris Minnich, senior membership director of the council. "We don't think every student is going to be going to college, but we do think students should have the opportunity, have the option."
